Can I change the Google search bar on the Mozilla Firefox Start Page to direct searches to google.co.uk, as it currently directs me to google.fr and I do not speak French (even though I live here!).

I like the Mozilla Firefox Start Page and I do find Google fairly useful (albeit that I have dumped Chrome for Firefox due to Google's constant badgering to sign-up to their social network "circles" etc) - but my gripe is that I am redirected to google.fr NOT google.co.uk (my 1st preference) or google.com (2nd preference). Yes, I am located in France. No, I am not French and most of the information I am looking for is contained on UK or US web pages. I found the same problem with the provided Google search engine in the top right bar, so removed it in favour of Yahoo (which I am not a fan of either!). Any advice would be gratefully received. Thx.

Many thanks for the prompt reply, ideato.
One of the reasons I abandoned Chrome in favour of Firefox was due to the "black band of doom" that appears on the top of the Google page - so setting up my homepage to google.co.uk just puts that back in the ugly spotlight.
I was, though, pleasantly surprised to see a Google search bar on the Mozilla Firefox Start Page (without the black band and Google options that I am just not interested in) but bitterly disappointed that it is Google.fr (due to my ISP being French).
I shall learn to live with Yahoo (or worse case scenario, Bing!)

  • How can I stop multiple tabs from opening along with Mozilla Firefox Start Page at launching time.How can this be stopped?

    Whenever I launch Firefox, multiple tabs also start to open along with the Mozilla Firefox Start Page, which is very irritating. How can I stop this to happen each time I launch the browser?

    It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • Can i insert 'mozilla firefox start page' onto my toolbar instead of the standard google on the search box

    I'm having problems like a lot of others with Google as it has removed it's 'UK only' button from it's home/search screen. I prefer the Google Mozilla Firefox Start Page as it gives me the options I need. On the Firefox toolbar search box, which drops down to give search engine options, can I link the Mozilla Firefox Start Page to this box? Thankyou.

  • How do I get back the functionality for the alphabetical drop down from my previous searches in the center Google search box of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page?

    In the afternoon of August 24 I lost a feature on my Mozilla Firefox Start Page and I cannot figure out how to get it back. It concerns the Google Search area in the MIDDLE of the page. Previously, when I would want to do a search, for example Amazon, I would type the letter 'A' and, because I had typed 'Amazon' in that Search box before, an alphabetical drop-down menu would come up with 'Amazon' in it. I could then click on that word without having to type the rest of it. That option is no longer working.
    I had done an Adobe Reader update that Friday morning, so I thought that might be why this happened,. I did a System Restore and took the system back to Tuesday, August 21. That did not help.
    I ran CCleaner and cleaned the Registry also. Interestingly enough, I found that right after I do that and then open a Mozilla Firefox Start Page, the alphabetical drop down function is back in the center Search bar for one time, one search. After that it is gone again. I go in and do just CCleaner (no Registry cleaning required) and the same thing happens...the functionality is there for one search only.
    I went in and made sure all my Add-ons/Plug-ins are up to date. I also ran a full system scan but no issues came up.
    I am computer illiterate, so please bear with me. I have no idea if any of the things I tried would have helped or not.
    I have Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1
    I appreciate any help you can provide.

    The "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
    Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
    If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />

  • My Bars are all stacked one on top of the other ie ASK A QUESTIONS, under that: File, Edit, History etc, under that Mozilla Firefox start page, tab tab etc. This uses 1/3 of my screen, can I make it all one bar

    I don't know how to insert a screen shot of my problem but as described above, right now I have 5 bars on top of my window.
    1. Ask a question under that
    2. File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help under that
    3; Mozilla Firefox start page (tab Ask a Question)
    under that
    4. Address line (www.you ask me.com) under that
    5. Latest headlines, most visited, City of Balch Springs etc.
    I don't want all these bars and I don't want all that window space used.
    What ever you can do to help will be GREATLY appreciated
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply however, I don't want to "not show" these toolbars I just don't want them stacked one on top of the other. See what I mean with the snapshot attached. (Hopefully attached)

  • How do I stop the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" from loading everytime I start Firefox? My home page is opening AND the (totally useless) 'start page'.

    Just installed Firefox on my second Windows machine (running XP Home). Unlike my other installation, every time I start Firefox I get TWO tabs - my home page AND a "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" that contains only a Google search input. I don't need the useless start page, but haven't found anything that tells me how to stop it from loading.

    Try This works good for those who aren't computer tech savvy like me
    Type about:config in the address bar
    Click I'll be careful, I promise if prompted
    In the Filter input field type startup
    Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    Delete the text string and click OK
    Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!
    I just tried this myself and it totally worked for me Good Luck

  • My Mozilla Firefox Start Page has changed

    My Mozilla Firefox Start Page changed without me doing anything to change it. I had the old style that said "you are not on the latest version of firefox" and I liked it. Now, I cannot get it back. What do I have to do to get it back?

    Install this extension to reset your homepage to the default.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    It will do the "reset" and then disappear from the Add-ons Manager.
    BTW, "you are not on the latest version of firefox" message sounds like the Firefox Home Page from Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions. So if the "default" isn't what you want - See - [[How to set the home page]]

  • How can I make Mozilla Firefox Start Page use Google search instead of SearchCompletion search?

    I have just upgraded Firefox 9 to 10. I noticed when I fire up Firefox at the Start Page and enter a query at the search bar, the resulting pages are from SearchCompletion engine.
    How do I make Google search engine as the default engine at the Firefox Start Page ... like it has always been?
    Seems like one of those irritating changes that happens when upgrading versions...

    Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • What is the URL for the Mozilla Firefox start page? This is the Google/Firefox home page with the Google search, which is the new version built into Firefox.

    I'm not asking how to set my homepage to about:home. I'm asking for the actual URL. Thanks.

    The http://www.google.com/firefox used to be the old Firefox start page for 3.6.* and earlier and has not been maintained by Google ever since Firefox 4.0 came out as to why this start page may have the "You're not on the latest version of Firefox" message at times.
    The default homepage ever since Firefox 4.0 has been '''about:home'''

  • Where is the file that creates the mozilla firefox start page found?

    I like the Firefox start page but want to tweak it a bit. Where can I gain access to the file? I am using Firefox 29.0.1
    Thanks

    In the omni.ja file in Firefox Program Files. Open '''about:home''' then right-click and select View Page Source. The path to the aboutHome.xhtml file is in the titlebar. <br />
    The problem with editing that file is that every 6 weeks when Firefox is updated you'll probably have to edit that file all over again.
    What specifically do you want to tweak? <br />
    Additions or changes can usually be accomplished thru a userContent.css file, for most things. <br />
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserContent.css
    For instance - hide the "snippet" and hide the "bar" at the bottom with Downloads, Bookmarks, etc :
    <pre><nowiki>@-moz-document url(about:home) {
    #snippetContainer { display:none !important; }
    @-moz-document url(about:home){
    #launcher { display: none !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>

  • I had a Google search bar before now with Firefox 5 I have no search bar at all?

    I have updated to Firefox 5 and now I have no search bar. I had Google before, but when I tried to download this it said it was not compatible with Firefox 5.
    Now I have no search box.

    I had this same problem, but you can add the search bar back by going to View > Toolbars > Customize... then somewhere near the bottom of the list of objects you'll find the Search bar that you can then drag onto the navigation bar where you would like it to go.

  • Is there a way to remove the add box under the google searchbar on the "mozilla firefox start page" ?

    I always liked the standard google start page for firefox, but with this new 4.0 there's an ugly add box below the search bar, nagging about "learn about all the cool things" or something named "Spark" or all sorts of other spam.
    So is there a way to remove that, or do I really have to change my start page to the normal boring www.google.com ?

    Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/userContent.css userContent.css]
    <pre><nowiki>@-moz-document url("about:home") {
    #contentContainer { display:none!important; }
    }</nowiki></pre>

  • My Mozilla Firefox start page changed yesterday. It's cumbersome. How do I get back the start page I had previously?

    The new start page fills the whole screen. You have to bump the cursor against the top margin to reveal the bar showing the tabs and the 'X' to close in the RH corner. At the bottom the start page covers the 'start' box and the information on the bottom row. Now I can't click directly on Bookmarks - I have to click the logo and then use the sidebar to access the bookmarks. I have also lost the ability to switch between the net and the document I am working on.
    This new configuration may suit some people, but the previous one was straightforward and better for me. How do I get it back, and prevent Firefox updating it again to this version?

    Hey Revert back changes (if you don't like) via settings on right top side . Also send a related image so we gave you exact info about the settings. You can Shut automatic updates (but it may leads some issues) via
    '''option'''-> '''advance''' ->'''update''' now choose any one of the following :
    * Automatically Install Updats
    * Let me choose
    * never check for
