Can I close Firefox and Plugin-container with a batch file? ANSWER: Yes. SOLUTION below.

Steps to create batch file to End process tree: "Firefox.EXE"
1. create new .txt file
2. copy/paste the following: taskkill /IM firefox.exe
3. Save
4. Rename the txt file - EndFirefoxTree.bat
5. Run from desktop at any time, give it a cute icon if you'd like!.

This works well although user will need to put the .bat file in Documents and create a shortcut to desktop in order to change the icon (of the shortcut).

  • Like to return after close Firefox (internet) in the same opened webites, what is the solution?

    If I closed Firefox p.e. for an Windows update) I will return in the same opened websites. Maybe in Firefox 3.6 was this normal, but ever since it´s terrible to close Firefox, because I must save every opened website. Most of the time I work with 20 or 30 opened websites (tabs). Hope I get this solution back, because FF is than easy as before.

    '''If you want the same''' 20 tabs each time to start Firefox, you could put them into a bookmark folder, just so you don't lose them, then '''make them into app-tabs''' so that when you restart Firefox those are the ones that are reopened. You will only see the favicons on the tabs bar for those pinned as app-tabs, so you identify them by the favicon and the position (order). You would not include your homepage as an app-tab as that would cause a duplicate. (pin as app-tab from the tab context (right-click) menu)
    '''If you want to close Firefox and immediately restart with the same tabs''' like you use when installing an extension, there is
    :Restartless Restart :: Add-ons for Firefox
    :https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/restartless-restart/
    '''If you want the same behavior as prior to Firefox 4''', where you ask for the same tabs at next restart, see item #31 "Restoring tabs from a lost session (#tabslost)"
    :http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#tabslost
    or you can use the History menu and use "Previous session" which was added in Fx 4, and is available even if you set up as in item #31 above and don't choose at the end of the session.
    '''If you always want the same tabs as last time '''change at Tools > Options > General and at the top choose When Firefox opens "Show my windows and tabs from last time" as opposed to "Show my home page.
    It is even more important now than when you were on Firefox 3.*.* to close Firefox properly with File > Exit rather than the "x" in the upper right corner which just closes the Window.
    If you display the "Firefox" button instead of menus you can use the "Alt" key to display menus, or get to tools > options via "Firefox" button > Options (2nd column) > Options
    My usage: When Firefox starts show my home page, I have 13 tabs in a folder to be used as app-tab but frequently close all tabs if working on something else, then get them back by opening tabs in a folder and make them app-tabs. I do ask for the choice when when closing Firefox, but I can always use the History menu to bring back my tabs and windows from the last session. If I want more than just what was open at last session, I can next open "Recently closed Windows".

    App-tabs are pretty much like regular tabs except that the tab is protected from opening a direct link or bookmark to another site within the app-tab -- that does not apply to bookmarks with substitution or javascript as they will open in the same app-tab.
    App-tabs provide no more protection than normal tabs against web pages like this site while composing a reply where the typed text is frequently lost during composing and have to start over.
    App-tabs are considered part of browsing history so you must save your browsing history for app-tabs to work. '''Tools > Options > Privacy''' you must have "Remember my browsing history" and in Settings where check marks mean to clear things you must leave unchecked "Browsing history". Annotated picture:

    I'm having problems with FlashPlayerPlugin and plugin-container. They keep starting up and bogging down the system. This has been a recent occurrance. I've made sure that I have the latest version. I notice the problem when I am opening some applicatio, and it freezes. If I go to Task Manager, I can see the two Adobe apps sucking up CPU cycles. If I end the processes, then the other apps continue. Today, I uninstalled FlashPlayerPluginqand plugin-container. All day since I have had no freezing of an app. What should I do to correct the problem?

    Here's an explanation of what those processes are.

    I'm curious about what you did to uninstall just those.

  • When I close Firefox and then try to open it, it says it is already running and I have to close it which I can't do. The only way to open it is to first restart my computer which is a pain. If I can't fix this I will use an other brouser!

    I am not sure what more I can tell you. I close firefox. So when I click on the icon it should allow me to open it again but I get a message that says it is already running. Either close it out which I can't do since I already did that or restart the computer.

    Try holding control, alt and delete down in succession and then a dialogue box will appear with windows task manager. Once open click on the Processes Tab and look for firefox.exe. Highlight this and then click end process. It should come up with a warning but just click Yes. This should then close firefox and allow you to reopen it from your desktop without shutting down your computer. Hope this helps.

  • [Serious BUG] Youtube crashes to death; fresh Windows 7 install; firefox and plugins updated; plugin-container.exe disabled; noway

    This happens to me and to two friends of mine. So it's hardly a coincidence.
    I have done a fresh Windows 7 install (for other reasons) so I thought this problem (which I had since about version 8.0) would disappear. I was wrong.
    Firefox and plugins are updated:
    Firefox 13.0
    Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300
    GPU video drivers are also updated.
    I came across the "plugin-container.exe solution" but it didn't solve the problem.
    How to reproduce the bug.
    Visit Youtube and click on some video. Minimize Firefox. Wait some seconds. Next time you restore the window Firefox crashes, you have to kill plugin-container.exe from the task manager OR you have to restart the entire browser in case you've disabled the plugin container.
    The same bug should occur when having various tabs open and one of them is Youtube with a video playing. But also when Firefox has no focus and you have other windows on top of it (and a Flash video running or even paused).
    Since this does happen:
    -with a fresh install;
    -with everything updated;
    -even disabling the plugin controller;
    it seems very very strange to me that this problem is STILL present since version 8.0 (or even before) and that there is so few reports of this bug around the internet.
    I'm not complaining here, I'm just showing my perplexity about almost noone having this bug which is ruining my (and my friends') Firefox experience since the past years.
    My purpose here is:
    * to let you know about this problem;
    * to know if other are experiencing it;
    * hopefully to keep giving support to this thread and answer to your questions about this bug so to help this thing being fixed;

    For problems that occurred with Flash 11.2 and earlier, you might want to consider disabling graphics hardware acceleration in both Flash and Firefox.
    '''Flash'''
    Right-click any video in Flash Player and choose Settings.
    Clear the checkbox for "Enable hardware acceleration"
    '''Firefox'''
    Save all work (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    Restart Firefox.

  • Opens multiable tabs on startup with tabs welcome to firefox and plugin installed how do i stop this?

    every time i open my firefox browser its opens with my usual homepage tab along with a welcome to firefox tab and plug in installed tab, how do i stop the unwanted tabs from opening on start up?

    Hi Kat565,
    You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. It might be a pref.js issue. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

    I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, and I use Kaspersky Internet Security. The past week, I've had problems opening Firefox - it has been slow. Today, it just won't open at all. At first I thought it was my Internet connection, so I called my provider, Comcast Cable. But I was also able to open Internet Explorer. I was told that I may have to remove Firefox, and redownload it, but it would erase all my bookmarks. How can I access Firefox and save my bookmarks?

    Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode (Firefox Safe Mode, not Windows Safe Mode).
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, check out this article:
    [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
    To export bookmarks to an HTML file that IE and other browsers can read, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Exporting%20bookmarks%20to%20an%20HTML%20file Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file | How to | Firefox Help].
    Any luck?

    Hello Brian.
    You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs
    What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
    If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • When I close Firefox and open another instance of it to look at a new site I get a pop up window telling me Firefox hasn't shutdown yet.

    When I close Firefox and open another instance of it to look at a new site I get a pop up window telling me Firefox hasn't shutdown yet. I am aware of tabs, but I prefer to just open new windows.
    Do I really need a pop up window telling me that I just closed Firefox? Is there a way to disable it in options? I can't even use Buzof program to auto click for me. I've never had this issue with any other browser and I find it incredibly annoying.

    I am not clear what you mean by:
    ''the program will only alow 1 website for each time I boot my machine,''
    Are you talking about Firefox or something else in the above statement. Firefox will, or should allow you to open quite a few tabs at startup if you wish, although it will be faster the fewer that you do open.
    When you say
    ''I close it the program does not completely close ''
    Again what is happening, what error messages if any do you see, and what exactly makes you think Firefox is not closing properly.
    Presumably you have already clicked on the blue links in my first post and read those articles.
