Having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper

I've been having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper and similar "services." Tried to download "MPlayerX" a week ago and it all started then. I thought I deleted the file but I'm still having trouble. I've been digging for solutions on here, but nothing I've found on here has worked yet--the VSearch stuff (I think) isn't on my hard drive. Any advice?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.venus.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.venus.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.venus.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/venus
/System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I'm trying to print halftones to a wide format Savin 2404 WDP printer. I can select the halftone desired in the output window and select Separations. I don not get a halftone dot output but instead I get shades of grey. HELP.

That worked really well (Resolution and Halftone screen Lpi, Angle and Dot shape).
My only issue now is when art is created in Illustrator CS6. I can't get those results for gradients.
I guess I would need to bring those files one color at a time back into photoshop.

Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (os x snow leopard) using bootcamp. I can't get back to my mac now. I've tried logging off of windows and shutting it down. when i restart it comes back on in windows. How do I get back to my os x?

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

Can I disable the fonts that come with iWork and iLife?

I use the most recently updated versions of Mavericks, Adobe CC and Fontxplorer.
When I am working in Photoshop, the list of fonts shows about 50 fonts that I never, ever, ever use. They come from iWork, iLife and the foreign language fonts that come with Mac. I suppose this is a minor problem, but it seems like something obvious that could be fixed.
Is there a way to either:
a) Get Photoshop to hide those fonts
b) Get Fontexplorer to hide those fonts from Photoshop
c) Disable fonts like Blackmoor, Schoolhouse, (many others) and the 8 fonts that include the word "Sangnam"?

I've found the foreign language fonts in Fontexplorer. That's great.
Now, as for the iWork and iLife fonts... some of them don't show up anywhere.
For example "Blackmoor" isn't in the system fonts list.
Spotlight can't find it either....
But there it is, working, in the applications.

Yes you can. You will have to authorize both machines for your iTunes account, and you will only be able to sync what is on the individual computers to your iPod, but switching between Mac and PC isn't an issue.

How can I disable the loading of the Warp Stalibizer and Auto Color Plugins?

I'm having trouble with a project of mine.
My main project file refuses to load because Warp Stabilizer and Auto Color crash when invoked.
I believed it was a file IO problem, but when I removed the external drive where the footage was, it gave me the same errors.
So I'm hoping that disabling the plugin loadin at AFX startup will restore my ability to load the file and retrieve my comps.
the exact error messages are:
'After Effects error: crash while invoking effects plu-gin "Warp Stabilizer".'
and
'After Effects error: crash while invoking effects plu-gin "Auto Color".'
and
'After Effects error: Crash in progress.Last logged message was <5540> <StateBinaryConverter> <5> solveCompleteB = 1'
Then it offers me to save a file and the resulting file has 0 KB...
Anyone can help me with this?

I just moved the plugin files AutoColor.aex and Stabilizer.aex to another location temporalily.
I removed the effects references and replaced the .aex files in their previous location.
Now I can open my project just fine.

user can create as many sites as they want under their Profile. There is a concern that users will "self-service" their own solutions without going through the proper channels of governance. Has anyone had to deal with this or have experience

HI Ken,we can disable this by blocking the self service site creation option.By default its disabled.
To disable the "Self-Service Site creation" option, just follow the steps given below:
1.   Go to the Central admin.
2.   Go to the "Application Management" & Select the specific web application.
3.   Now, you can see the "Self-Service Site Creation" option in the Ribbon Menu.
4.   Click on that Menu item and Select the "Off" option in the pop-up window

Can I disable/hide the brush tilt animation window?

Adobe instituted the dynamic brushes in CS5 and I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is not being able to hide that pop window that's supposed to aid you with knowing how the stylus is positioned in space. It's annoying. I want to hide it, or at least make it smaller. It takes takes up way too much space and I don't know if ANYONE spends their time looking at it while drawing. I do like the brush icon at the tip though and how it changes shape based on angle. Maybe this should be in feature request?

If you hover the mouse/pen over the top of the window you can press the X to close the window or go to View>Show and uncheck Brush Preview.
You can also move the window or click on the double arrow to make the window smaller.

How can I disable the login query in the music and podcast apps?

In Finder Prefs I changed it to always open folders in new window. Later I decided to switch it back so I unchecked it. It still opens folders in a new window. Obviously, I've tried several times, restarted many times, etc. Suggestions?

Exactly. Since the OS stores all code that runs the machine in RAM, you need to restart any app that you make changes to for it to use the new settings. Since the Finder is always running (it operates the Desktop and other things), relaunching via the Dock option forces it to dump its code from RAM and repopulating it with the new settings.

How can i set the size of the task windows and text to something more suitable?

When i bought my HP Touchsmart 600 pc the text size and window size on the desktop were tiny as Default, i manage to change it where it wasnt to big or small it was just right.
but recently i had to restore my whole computer back to factory settings and now the text is huge and the windows are coming up big as well. i played around in the display settings and put it at 100% default and that doesnt help i then tried it on 125% but that is still big...
i cant remember how i did it last time and its really hard to explain. but could anyone help me and point me in the right direction cause its annoying i use to fit like 10 icons vertically in a row on my desktop now i can fit only 8 and the start menu comes up huge.

Logging in with windows and mac

recently at a university I noticed that when you use there computer at the start up it asks are you a windows user or a mac user, I am trying to figure out how to do that. I have done the boot camp and have windows 7.

If you have Windows installed, you can choose which operating system you want to start up from by holding the Option (Alt) key while your iMac is starting. It will show you all bootable volumes, and one of them will be your OS X partiton and another one will be Windows.
If you want to change the default operating system during startup, start up in OS X, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose the OS X partition or Windows partition
