Unless you have deleted the Recovery partition on your machine, otherwise your machine should have a Recovery partition. Make sure backing up all of your files before restoring the PC/laptop to factory settings.
To set your PC/laptop to factory settings, restart the PC/laptop. At the HP welcome screen hit repeatly the F11 key to launch the recovery process. Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

We've set the default tab to .63" in our template. We have heading styles that use that tab setting, and that have a hanging indent that we also want to set to .63". But when we change the style for those headings to hanging indent .63",

Thank you! No, we never use Ctrl+t. Instead, in the Modify > Format > Paragraph dialog box, we have a hanging indent set to .63". But when we close and then reopen the dialog box, the hanging indent has been reset to .5".
But thanks for reminding me of the multilevel list dialog box. I've updated our multilevel list style so that the text indent and tab stops are set to .63".
Although I've always wondered: why is it that the numbered list style sometimes forgets the heading associations (in the
Link level to style box)? I had to reset the heading level associations when I updated the multilevel list style.

Create a paragraph style which has the margins and paragraph indent where you want them.

Hanging indent, Adobe Fireworks CS5

Any idear how to do a "hanging indent" in Fireworks CS5 for a multi-line custom bulleted list.
Or if there is the "indent here" option in paragraph text for Fireworks CS5?
I can't believe it doesn't have such a simple type controls like this, but it's legacy code - so maybe brute force is the only way.

A single negative indent value doesn't quite give me enough control. At least not what I'm used to compared to the other Adobe apps. Uusually you spec a first line indent value and an indent value for the remaining lines in the paragraph. (ie 8, -8 pts, respectively)
OR an Indent-here command. (I know there's no such thing in HTML, but that's not my concern in designing protypes/mockups - and CSS does handle that quite plainly these days.)
I know the FireWorks isn't ideal application for typesetting, but considering it's been rev'd up several times since the MacroMedia acquisition, you'd think someone would have solved this basic integration issue by now. I doubt it's fixed in CS5.5 either...UGH.
Brute force typesetting here I come.

Bullets, Lists, and Hanging Indents

As far as I can tell, the capability I would like does not exist in Pages, but I'll throw it out anyway.
Instead of spending so much time on "automatic" lists, I prefer inserting a number manually (or a bullet) and using manual indentation. Word uses command (or control) -T and the old Word Perfect used F4 (PC). If one is an accomplished typist, I would submit that this is easier and places more control with the author.
Hanging indents are especially difficult. One can indent with the toolbar, but then it takes forever to anchor to the tiny line and then drag it backwards.
It would be helpful to be able to define a shortcut for a bullet or any other custom character, so that one could command-b or something like that.
I've tried command-], but it does not seem to help with hanging indents.
Any suggestions?

keyboard shortcuts to assign styles have been discussed some time in this forum. Unfortunately, there's no way to define them in Pages.
Hopefully such an option will be available in Pages 3. Anyway, you could give feedback to Apple.

Look at the left hand margin indicator -
Compare it to the right-hand one. You'll note that it is actually two stops, instead of just one - a small bar on top of a triangle.
Split them by careful dragging, and you can get what you want -
You may need to do a bit of fiddling until you get it just the way you want it.

An indented paragraph next to a floating image?

I have a typical book layout page: Text with a floated image to the left, with a blockquote that is indented 30px to the left and right. For some reason when the indented paragraph is next to the floating image, the indent does not show up. It does show up when the text wraps that paragraph below the image.
The reason for this appearance is that though the paragraph is set margin-left: 30px; margin-right: 30px;, because the image has a width of 400px, the margin to the left, for that paragraph, must be 430px. Of course when the text wraps so that the indented paragraph is below the image, the indent is far too wide.

You can set an iPod Classic to shuffle in a Playlist. Well, my Classic (running 1.1.2 PC) can.
What are you doing after setting shuffle to songs in the Settings menu?
What you need to do is scroll down to the Playlist of your choice and either:
highlight the Playlist and press the Play button (which will play a song at random from that Playlist). When that song finishes, another song will be played - at random - from that same Playlist
enter the Playlist and choose a song that you want to be played first. When that song finishes, another song from that Playlist will be chosen - at random - to be played.
When songs are being played in shuffle mode (the random choice of song), you will see the shuffle icon in the top right corner of the screen. (It's the same icon when in shuffle albums mode.) What happens, that is different, in your case?

I am making a reference page and need to indent the second line, but not the first. Is there any way to do this on pages for the iPad?

Position your cursor on the start of the second line tap once and the iPad keyboard appears tap again and a menu pops up or appears on the page with three choices 'select' 'select all' and 'paste', next to the words is an arrow pointing to the right, tap on this and choose 'insert' then choose tab to make an indentation.

Indent + Paragraph Style

I'm trying out the iWork Pages 08. One problem I found is that I seem to be unable to define a "indent" for e.g. only the "body" or "heading 2". I used to use the inspector --> tabs --> indent/first line option. When I apply that while having only the body text selected, Pages creates an indent for every paragraph and not just for the body style?! Is it me or is it Pages?

If you use the inspector, I believe it will apply to the whole section if not the whole document. Instead of using the tab inspector & tabs (so Word/Microsoft & not really correct), create a new paragraph style with an indent.

Won't shut down, won't empty trash, can't force quit, hangs forever

Hi all. Multiple problems here with MacBook Air. Can't even give you the specific OS because of the hanging problem. In brief the issues are:
1. It won't shut down unless by using the power button.
2. It won't empty the trash. Nor will it stop emptying the trash. All attempts to do so are met with either the warning that an application is in use (only the trash is in use) or it hangs
3. It is impossible to force quit. The usual keystrokes have no effect and in any case the third keystroke - usually esc- is shown under the Finder as an arrow comIng out of the upper left (open) corner of a semi-circle. Although this is a Spanish keyboard there is no corresponding key anywhere on the computer
4. Any attempts to open any other application while engaging in the fruitless attempts to empty the trash are met with the dreaded beach all of death.
As a consequence I can only use the MacBook Air by not emptying an ever growing amount of trash. This can't possibly be good.

Hopefully you can boot in Safe Mode so you can find out which OS X is installed. Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Then click the Apple menu  top left in the screen. From the drop down menu click: About This Mac
Note the version number.
Then click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Post back with the OS X version please.

Can't install WinXP - hangs up on install

I need some serious help. Here's my system:
K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo
1GB Corsair 3200 XLPRO RAM
AMD Athlon 3500+
2 Maxtor DiamonMax 10 250 GB drives in Raid 0
When I try installing Win XP from the CD, the sytem hangs. I press F6, load both drivers, and then Windows loads a few more drivers. After it reaches "Setup is starting windows," the system hangs there. I think the storage driver is causing the hangup. When I just use the raid driver, it doesn't hang, but I see 2 drives intead of 1. I have flashed bios to 1.4. I've tried using Maxblaster, but can't get that to work. Any suggestions?

Check out the maxtor links shown by Syar2003, people have got these drives working but, i'm not sure that i've seen any get a raid setup yet.
If you want to continue trying to set up raid you'd be better off setting up a new floppy with more uptodate drivers. Upto Date Floppy
