Can I do plsql in SQL Developer?

I am new to SQL Developer. Can I do plsql stuff in it just like in SQL Station?

I have no idea what SQL Station is....so the phrase 'just like' may not apply; however, SQL Developer supports PL/SQL development and debugging.

Downloaded the SQL Developer, Downloaded the latest patches... however not able to connect to the SQL server with all parameters specified... a red line message displayed "Failure - cannot connect to MS SQL Server on <hostname>" can there b any reason? I am tryng to migrate from MS SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g using Oracle SQL Developer ....

I can't make updates from SQL Developer

I've been using SQL Navigator from Quest software to make some updates to data. I just run a select query with the updateable button selected and i can type in my updates and hit commit to make changes.
I can't figure out how to do this in SQL Developer. It won't let me make any changes. Is there an updateable button somewhere? I really like SQL developer and use it for a lot of things, but it's annoying to have to go and open SQL Navigator when I want to manually update a row.

Apart from using plain SQL in the SQL Worksheet and the table's Data tab (which, as said, are currently the only possibilities), you can also vote on the request (http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:1949458845889031::NO::P39_ID:4902) to add weight for getting this implemented sooner...

Can't download Windows x64 SQL Developer

The download of SQL Developer x64 (Windows) fails within 2 seconds of tryng to save to local disk - filesize is 0 bytes. I have tried from two different machines.
The download of x86/32 bit SQL developer works.

I'm afraid Oracle's download server is unreliable. It never affects everyone, but failures happen intermittently and once you get a failure it can be hard to clear the problem.
The problem seems to be that the failed download is cached somewhere - on your local machine, in your proxy server, or at oracle's edge servers. Sometimes clearing your internet cache will help, but there is no reliable solution other than to keep trying.

Can't create connection in SQL developer

i download sql developer from oracle website but when i want to start and start it with making new connection it always give me error saying
test faild IO error: the network adapter could not estabilished a connection

If you performed a default Oracle 10g Express Edition installation on your local machine, then you should find something like the following:

When your installation works correctly for these commands, then the SQL Developer connection should work as well. If not, please provide specific installation and machine details. But first you need to verify using sqlplus and tnsping that the 10g installation is working correctly. If not, then please post to the appropriate forum for help in that area.

Can SQL developer connect to Oracle 8i?

Hi, guys:
Is there any way that we can connect oracle 8i with SQl developer? We are rewriting a system with APEX 4.1 and PL/SQL on Oracle 11g R2. However, the legacy system was written in Oracle portal on Oracle 8i platform. We cannot connect SQL developer 3.1.07 to oracle 8i for some reason. Anyone could give us a hint on this?

The JDBC 11.x.x drivers do not support 8i or earlier versions of the database and the current sql developer releases use those drivers.
If your Oracle 8 version is 8.17 or later you should use the JDBC 10.2.0 driver; otherwise prior to 8.17 you will need the JDBC 9.0.1 driver to support it.
Here is the official Oracle JDBC page that shows the Oracle DB versions supported for each of the JDBC drivers available and also describes the JDBC jars and what JDK versions they support.

If you download an older version of sql developer as Gary suggested make sure it uses one of the JDBC 10.x or earlier jars and also make sure that the jar you use supports the JDK version you are using. Any mismatch and you will likely have problems. The first link I provided above has ALL of the allowable combinations listed.

Password change fails in SQL Developer with verify function...

A couple of months ago I enforced a password verify function on our 11.2.0.3 databases and also one legacy 10.2.0.4 database.
At the time I tested on my account (which had elevated privileges...doh!).   Now some users are hitting expiry, they can't change it via SQL Developer.
If I create a user with 'create session' privilege and set their profile to one that uses the verify function (see both below), I then log in to SQL Developer (we have tried with versions 3.1 (Windows) and 3.2 (Linux) with same failure results.
BTW,.. the password verify function enforces the following:
password must be minimum of 8 characters
password must not be the same as the user name, or user name (1-100)
password must contain at least a single digit
password must contain at least a single character
1. Works = I log into the local server and run command line SQLPlus, type 'password' and update.   I can successfully change my password.
2. Fails = I log into the local server and run command line SQLPlus, type 'alter user <me> identified by <newpwd>;' I get:

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28221: REPLACE not specified
This error is because the account does not have the 'alter user' privilege.   I'm okay with this, as I don't want our users having this privilege.
3. I start SQL Developer 3.2, type 'alter user <me> identified by <newpwd>;' I get the same ORA-28221 error as above.   That is fine, and as expected.
4. Now in SQL Developer, I type 'password', set a valid password, but I get 'Failed to change password' in the Script Output tab.
I have a database 'after servererror on database' trigger set, and querying the database table it is logging into, I see a record with a date stamp matching my failure with a server_error=28221 (the same as above).
So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong here, or if this is a bug in SQL Developer.   I don't want standard users having 'alter user' privileges, but I do want to enforce password verification.
I get the same result on three 11.2.0.3 databases (haven't tried any more but suspect same results for others) and one legacy 10.2.0.4 database, and using SQL Developer 3.1 and 3.2.

okay,... I just saw another website which shows I should put in the 'replace <oldpwd>' clause in.
This works in SQL Developer:     alter user sutemp identified by carport999 replace garage999;
So why does the 'password' command fail?     (Developers: it would also be helpful to have the ORA- error displayed as opposed to 'Failed to change password')

Unable to connect SQL Developer 4.0.2 to Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7 (Apex Listener)

Updated Apex to 4.2.5 via p17966818_425_Generic.zip patchset. Apex environment running fine as do all applications via Listener 1.1.3

Current Status
Apex Applications and RESTful services are running fine.
Problem
Unable to connect SQL Developer 4.0.2 to Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7
Error message in SQL Developer - Cannot connect to DEV. HTTP/1.1 403 Target service not allowed

Steps followed -
1. The oracle users APEX_LISTENER and APEX_REST_PUBLIC_USER did not exist, so I ran apex_rest_config.sql from the APEX 2.4.1 patchset whilst connected sys as sysdba and provided the same password as APEX_PUBLIC_USER for both users.
2. I also ran

Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:

i have aproblem in sql developer when i tried to make new gallery ....when select file>new>filter by >all item and highlight Database Objects there is no Data Mining PL/SQL Package option. i need it to work because iam using oracle data miner 10.2.0.4.3

SQL Developer 3.0 EA4 contains a the new Data Miner Workflow based interface.
The old Data Miner (10.2/11.1) is in maintenance mode going forward.
This will also mean that we will not porting the old Data Miner PL/SQL Package extension forward to new SQL Developer releases.
However, you can always generate the pl/sql package directly from Data Miner 10.2/11.2 which will generate a file on your client which you can then edit/run using SQL Developer.
Data Miner 11.2 offers sql and sql script generation as well, but it is currently limited to the transformation nodes.

How to set naming standards for SQL Developer

I am using SQL Developer version 3.0.04.
In the newly integrated and very useful Data Modeler, we can set preferences for the naming standards to be applied when creating logical and relational model objects ( primary keys, foreign keys, et cetera). I would like to know if there is a way to set naming standards for the relational objects we create in SQL Developer on existing tables ( ( primary keys, foreign keys, et cetera).
Any help in setting such preferences would be appreciated.

If you want to set up a diagram for an existing database, you can use File/Data Modeler/Import/Data Dictionary to import its definitions.
Alternatively you can open a Data Modeler Browser (using View/Data Modeler/Browser), expand the node for Design "Untitled_1",
expand the node for Relational Models, and select Show from the Right-click drop-down menu for "Relational_1" to create a Relational Model diagram.
You can then drag Tables from SQL Developer's Connections tree onto the diagram.
Once you have a Relational Model you can reverse engineer it to an Entity-Relationship model using the << button in the button bar
(or by selecting "Engineer to Logical Model" from the drop-down menu for the Relational Model).

Data Miner Extension in SQL Developer 4.0 EA3 Release: EA3 Repository Migration Failure

The Data Miner extension in the SQL Developer 4.0 EA3 release fails when attempting to migrate the repository to EA3. This posting contains instructions on how to recover from this failure as well as to successful migrate the repository from EA2 to EA3. There are no problems when just installing a fresh Data Miner repository.

Newbie in SQL Developer: misc questions

Hello,
I´m new to SQL Developer, always worked with Quest´s SQL Navigator before.
1.)
I have a file.sql with following instructions:
begin
package_1.variable_1:='T';
package_2.procedure_1;
package_2.procedure_2;
package_2.procedure_3;
end;
In Quest SQLNavigator I started this with "Run (F9".
In SQL Developer this will not start, always telling me error, invalid numbers or some other sh*t, but nothing changed within the packages or procedures.
With SQLNavigator everything works fine.
2.)
In SQLNavigator with "Quick Browse" I get the sql for a table, for example
select a.col1, a.col2, a.col3, ...
from quickbrowsedtable a
How can I get this in SQL Developer ?
3.)
When extracting DDL in SQL Developer columns and table names are in double quotes. Can I change
this to have no quotes at all ?

SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i

Hi,
I was waiting a tool from Oracle like SQL Developer for a long time, finally it came, but I am a little disapointed, so Why SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i? Other free tools like SQUIRREL can do it. I also have worked in previous projects using PL/SQL Developer and it works fine...Why a native Oracle tool can not do it?
I am in a project where we have to upgrade the Oracle database to a newer version, but I cannot have access to the old one...
I know there are some threads in this forum, and some people can work with 8i with no issues. Can anyone who works with SQL Developer and Oracle 8i please tell me how to do it?

That's what I thought, the issue is more commercial ($$$) than technical. Anyway...I downloaded the version 1.1 but now I am getting an ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION error. 00604. 00000 "error occurred at recursive SQL level %s".

SQL Developer 3.1 EA - Database Diff Issues

Hi
I am using SQL Developer 3.1 EA to generate database difference script to upgrade my db. This is really very useful and very good tool for compare two different databases and generate the difference script.
There are few bugs (?) identified while using database diff tool.
1. If there is a column mismatch in Source and Destination tables, directly drop the table and recreate new one. This is not a good solution for upgrading database with some other database (data loss is the major issue). Microsoft handled this situation in VS2010 to create temp table with new structure then move data to the temp table and finally drop the original table and rename temp table to original. I am expecting the same method in Database Diff also.
Sample Code:

1. Makes sense. You can request this at the SQL Developer Exchange, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.
2. Long standing bug. As it won't make your computer explode, apparently low priority to fix.
3. I'm unable to use the comparison feature in EA3. I do get the progress dialog comparing the different procedures and functions, but when finished it just disappears, and no comparison sheet opens, like the whole operation just got cancelled. No exceptions in the console, just a lot of these in the logging page:
