Can I limit iPad deployment to iPad 2?

Hiya guys, I've had a look at modifying the info.plist file (UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities) in my ADT-produced ipa files, and I haven't found a way to limit iPad distribution to iPad 2 only. It seems that you can require certain hardware, but not specific devices.
If you have any info it'd be much appreciated!
We want to limit it because our app runs fine on 3GS, 4, and iPad 2, but it blacks out and crashes intermittently on iPad 1. Memory usage is varying during the crash, so our working assumption is that the display is eating the conventional memory. More on that in another thread though!

As been mentioned, ideally you'd want to optimize the app to run well enough on the iPad 1, but one other option would be to specify device requirements in your Info.plist that would automatically limit the app to iPad 2s. You do this by listing device requirements, specifically still-camera and setting the device family to iPad only.
Check out UIDeviceRequiredCapabilities section here: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/general/Reference/InfoPlistKeyRefere nce/Articles/iPhoneOSKeys.html
So you could use a few device requirements that limit it to what the iPad2 supports. This needs to be added to the Info.plist. This can be done by adding the code in the -app.xml file before you compile the app, or by unzipping the ipa and modifying the Info.plist directly.
Really though, Apple is not going to look kindly on the idea of limiting the app based on perceived performance issues. There's a good chance that they'd still reject the app if you require certain hardware features, but don't actually use them in your code.
Another thing to consider, no one is going to read the description in the App Store to see if it runs on their devices. They'll download it and run it, and if it's poor performance, you'll get poor reviews. At least with limiting by hardware, the app won't install on their device (if Apple approves it of course).
Anyway, just a thought.

  • How can I limit the number of emails retained on my ipad air?

How can I limit the number of emails that are retained on my iPad Air?  Because of legal requirements of a long-term project, I cannot permanently delete emails relating to that project from my ISP's mail server.  My gmail account contains over 17,000 emails and, upon setting up my new iPad, and updating to ios 7.1.1, I now have all 17,000+ emails taking up space.  I would like to limit the emails by count as I was able to do on my old iPad running ios 5.1.1 OR to retain them based on date range.  I have not found any instructions on the support discussions or general iPad blogs that allow me to do that.  Any way around this problem?
I also miss the 5.1.1 mail search feature that allowed me to narrow the search by from/to/subject/all.  Does anyone know if that feature is available using some little-known ios 7.1.1 feature?
    Thanks for your help.

IOS 7.1.1 doesn't show a "days to sync" parameter anywhere in SETTINGS/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/ACCOUNTS/GMAIL Account/ GMAIL Acccount Info.  There is nothing in iTunes relating to such an option either.  So, it seems I'm back to square one.
If you have a decent mail provider like Microsoft Hotmail or Outlook.com mail it does.
If you have Gmail it does not.  Quite right. Gmail is rubbish.

  • HT2729 I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file
    hope this helps:)

  • Can you limit the list of AirPlay devices seen on the iPad if multiple devices exist?

We are setting up a school to use iPads, Apple Tvs and Projectors in classrooms.
    - Teachers are using iPads in classrooms and we are setting up wireless projection using AirPlay.
    - Each classroom has an Airport Express with a unique WiFi name.
    - Each classroom has a projector with an Apple TV mounted on it and each Apple TV has a unique AirPlay name.
    - An iPad and the AppleTV are the only two devices on each classroom’s wifi.
    - When a teacher wants to mirror iPad to the projector, we thought they would just see their own AppleTv (projector) but, I think because the underlying school network is the same in each classroom, the teacher sees every device in the school.
Question:  If you have multiple AirPlay devices on the same network, can you limit the list that one sees on an iPad?
And/or: Is there a way to set up the wifi differently so the teacher is not presented with a huge list of devices?

I wish teachers like you would leave technology you don't understand alone. The fact you were allowed to plug-in "consumer grade" access points into a enterprise network says a lot about your lack of knowledge; next you want to turn all of these low end access points into routers!? Your going configure a unique SSID on every AP setup each device to only connect to that network? Do you have any consent of wireless networks? Management?
It's teachers like you that bring down a network. Then you insult the very IT staff that work in a very thankless position in which most of their interaction occurs when something doesn't work.

  • How can I limit no. of emails displayed on iPad or iPhone, iOS 7?

In the Mail app on iOS 7, both my iPhone & my iPad show literally hundreds of emails, going back 3 months. It seems as thpough if I trash some of them, even earlier emails get loaded. How can I limit the no. displayed?

There is no Safari version 7.1 on the iPad. Did you tap the sold Blue bookmark icon again to be rid of the bookmarks list on the left? The one at the top of the toolbar. not the one in the bookmarks window,

  • Can I share my books on iPad with someone in family that has a different computer and email address

Can I share my books on iPad with someone in family that has a different computer and email address

If you got them from iBooks, then no. As far as I know, iBooks are linked to the Apple ID that downloaded them. If you got them via Kindle or the such, the apps may have a sharing function.
If it's another app, then whatever  the rules of that app says is what works.
If you're looking for e-books on a budget, check out your local library. Many have e-books you can check out for a period of time, and they either work with an app or are PDF files with some sort of time limit encoding in them

  • IP Whitelist for large iPad Deployment

I have a large iPad deployment coming up in the UK. Who can I contact to get the institutions IP whitelisted for a short time so we can create multiple Apple ID's in a timely manner? Thanks

Your best bet is to get in touch with the education or enterprise support.  They will be able to provide you with the necessary form to request whitelisting.  The link below has the number to call for UK.  Hope this helps.

  • Can't install Netflix app on iPad.

I can't install Netflix app on iPad. It's installed on another device, but I thought that was OK. When I go to the App Store the "install" button doesn't show up. Wondering if it is installed but not showing up for some reason?

you can install the app on any number of devices.  There is a limit on how many devices on the same account can stream at the same time.
first, make sure the app is not already on the device by using spotlight to search your device.  it may be hidden in a folder somewhere.

  • If you buy a film from itunes, can you watch it on multiple iPads at the same time?

if you buy a film from itunes, can you watch it on multiple iPads at the same time?

SerZak is correct. There is a ten device limit. Yoy would still have to be signed into the correct ID in order to sync the Movie, even if you do not use Automatic Downloads, so the 10 device limit would still apply.
Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it. Each computer must also beauthorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are currently associated, remove unused devices or computers, and see how long before they can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:

  • 116 Ipad deployment method

    Hi,
Our company buy 116 Ipad Air. Which can ı select method for deployment? I don't have a time for deployment. I need simple and easy method.
    Thanks

    Hi Wenomfc,
Apple's new Deployment Enrollment Program (DEP) is probably the easiest and fastest way to get your devices configured and deployed. You will want to enroll in Apple's Volume Purchase Plan (VPP) and use Manage Distribution. You may also want to sign up for a free MDM solution like Cisco Meraki Systems Manager to take advantage of DEP. I also recommend you take a look at the iOS Enterprise Deployment Overview  for more on deploying iPads.
If you don't want to use an MDM or DEP, then you should probably go with Apple Configurator to set up and install apps on your fleet of iPads. See http://help.apple.com/configurator/mac/1.0/  for details.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Pages downloaded, but I still can't open iCloud pages from iPad. Says that I need a new version of Pages on my Mac

For my Mac Pro, after I downloaded the new Mavericks OS, I downloaded the new pages. However, I still can't open iCloud pages from iPad. Says that I need a new version of Pages on my Mac.
    Please help.

It appears that you are launching the old version, probably using an icon in your Dock. That icon is an alias & is not updated. You will need to go to your Applications folder & find the new Pages 5 icon & double-click it. Once it is launched, you can right-click on the icon & choose Options > keep in Dock from the contextual menu.

  • How can I transfer information from one ipad to another?

how can I transfer information from one ipad to another ?

What kind of information? You can sync things like Contacts and Calendars by using iCloud. You can backup one iPad to iTunes on a computer and then sync the backup to the other iPad. You can configure your iTunes content and sync the same content to both iPads.
It is based on what you want to do. Or are you looking for a way to send files from one iPad to another wirelessly? There are apps to do things like that, as well as cloud services, such as DropBox.

  • How can i move pictures from my ipad to a SD card?

I have the adapter for the sd card and i can load on to the ipad. But i would like to load from the ipad to the SD card with out having to load the photos on to my computer. Is this possible?

No, sorry, the transfer is one way, from the card to the iPad. The iPad can't save back out to the card. You'll need to transfer the photos to a computer, get if necessary an SD adapter for the computer, and load them from there.
    Regards.

One way would be to e-mail them from yourself to yourself. That would totally avoid the different ID issue.
