Can I not sync apps and still keep them on the iPod?

Hello people+
When I uncheck "Sync Apps" in my iPod Settings, I get this error message -
+Are you sure you do not want to sync applications? All existing applications and their data on the iPod "Touch" will be removed.+
Am I understanding it correctly when I think the apps will be deleted from the Touch? In other words, I want to be able to manage my apps only on my Touch, and I don't want a copy of the apps on my desktop, and I don't want to sync through iTunes.
Is there anyway I can do this?

I think you kind of missed the point of the whole iPod thing. Your computer is your backup for apps, music, etc. Anything happens to your iPod (lost, stolen, soaked in BP crude) you still have all of your stuff.
You can do it all on your touch but what if is the big question. Sync you apps and your music and the first time you need to restore your iPod, you will see the genius of the system.

  • Can I delete files from my computer and still keep them on my iPod touch?

I have researched this topic here as well as on Google and I am not really getting the answers I need. I am by no means an iTunes/iPod pro; my 3 year old recently showed me how to shut off my iPod (I hadn't realized before that it had anything other than a "sleep mode", if you will).
I have read you need to set iTunes from autosync to manual, but this isn't working for me... iTunes still wants to delete/replace everything currently stored on my iPod, or will say it can't find the files on my iPod if I've already deleted them from my PC.
I have Windows XP. I recently upgraded my iTunes software to 9.2.1.5, and I have an iPod touch 64GB.
I really need to delete a lot of MP3s and videos (not purchased from iTunes) to clear up space on my home PC, but I'm afraid to do it because every time I end up having to replace the deleted files anyway whenever I sync the thing.
I click on "manual" on the Summary page, I then click on "sync music" and "Sync Movies". On each of those pages I get a pop up, and if I don't click on music or movies previously added to my iPod, they get deleted. The "manual" option doesn't save itself as the default option either, I always have to recheck it every time I sync my iPod. Otherwise, it always goes back to the autosync mode.
I would just like to add new files to my iPod, leave the stuff already stored on it, and delete the files off my computer. I don't know if I'm still doing it wrong, or if there's an iTunes glitch or what. Can someone please explain how to do this?

Sounds like you have a few problems going on here. First one being, the itunes/ipod preference isn't getting saved for manually managing.
Second one being, if you are intending to manually manage content on your ipod, hitting sync does just that - it puts the ipod "in sync" with the PC. If a file isn't on the PC, it gets erased from the ipod.
My advice is to get an external hard drive, leave the ripped files from your CDs there so itunes always has access to them, and free up space on your PC's hard drive that way. An added benefit of having an exHD is, you can have backups copies of your purchased tracks, since you only get one download of them. If your PC dies, they will be on the exHD, or vice versa.

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • Can I swap accounts later and still keep apps?

I just got a 16gb, 3G iPad and realized my Mac book is still 10.4 so used my girlfriends Mac to sync with her blank iTunes account. My question is, if I download some apps and later want to sync up to my own iTunes account with my calendar, etc. Can I do it and keep purchased apps? Or should I just sync my phone to her blank iTunes account ( it is on one of her accounts on her laptop she doesn't use) and then just remove that account from her laptop afterwards so I am at least synced with my calendar. Or will it require a 2nd account on my iPad because the iTunes are different?
I don't have the money now to upgrade to a higher Mac system after buying iPad so just want to get started on learning in but not to screw myself later when I have to resync.
    Thanks.

If you sync to another computer the contents of the iPad will be erased and replaced with those on the new syncing computer. However:
    - If you have the box checked in iTunes that says transfer purchased material from iPad to computer that may transfer them to your new computer
    - You can redownload app at not additional cost if you are signed inot the same iTunes accounts that purchased them the first time. Before I synced with a new computer make sure that all apps data is transfered out of the iPad such as by emailing or exporting (use sharing) by using the last sync with the original computer.

  • How can I upload pictures onto my icloud account on my computer from my phone, then delete them on my phone but still keeping them on the computer?

It seems absolutely so easy but I don't know how to upload the pictures from my phone onto my icloud account on my computer. I used the Beta but then I was using too much data. I only want some pictures available on icloud from my laptop and I want to delete the same pictures from my phone to save space. I'm scared if I delete them and they are gone from both my laptop and phone I won't be able to get them back!

iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

  • My 5th generation iPod touch is not loading music copied from cd's.  Restore only temporarily works and backup erased them from the iPod (with tech support watching).

I have had my iPod touch for only 3 weeks and it keeps removing the audio files from cd's that I have ripped to my iTunes library whenever I sync it to my computer.  I don't have an issue with purchased material through iTunes just music files from my cd's.
I am frustrated and here is why:
First issue I had was the day it was purchased.  That was fixed with help from tech support. I had to restore it to the factory settings and it downloaded all the music just fine.  However...
A week later I purchased some songs on iTunes and proceeded to sync my iPod to get the new songs on it.  Well, a great purge began of the cd files for the first time.  I had to again restore the iPod to factory settings, go through the whole process of setting up again, and it downloaded all my music. Another week goes by.....
I go to listen to my iPod yesterday at the gym and all the cd files are gone again.  I haven't synced it in a week and I don't have it set to sync over the WiFi.  But, amazingly and miraculously, the 3 songs I purchased appeared on the iPod without syncing at all. Strange, so I go online to chat with support and:
He says to restore the settings.  I told him I was going to have to do it for a 3rd time in 3 weeks for the same issue? So we try doing a backup.
The backup didn't work and he got to watch on my screen the audio files listed as being on my iPod (all songs show but only purchase play mind you) go from the total to just the total of the one's purchased.  I get an "oh my."
I am then told to uninstall iTunes and all related Apple software and that should fix it.  If not I should contact them again.
Well, that didn't work so after work it's again having them attempt to help me "fix" my issue.  This has to be a software issue with iTunes.
This is a ridiculous issue and shouldn't be so hard to fix.
Who can tell me how to fix this properly so I don't have to reset my iPod every few days or week if I buy something?

  • Is there any way to delete songs from iTunes and still have them on my iPod

I'm trying to free up some space on my computer by deleting some songs off of iTunes. Is there any way that I can delete songs off of iTunes but still be able to have them on my iPod when I connect it to my computer? Thanks.

    Hey there,
In order to make this possible, you have to set your iPod up to manually manage music and videos. This method can be very risky and you increase your risk of losing all your music if your iPod dies. I would recommend investing in an external hard drive to keep your music on.
For more help instructions on how to accomplish this, I would check out this older thread. Hope it helps.

  • Is there a way to temporarily disable the iPod in the iPhone. I am trying to stream from an app and it gets overridden by the iPod initializing

Is there a way to temporarily disable the iPod within my iPhone. I am trying to stream music using an app and a dock on my Sony AIR and the stream is over ridden by the iPod starting up.

First of all, an idle threat is one that a person has no intention of carrying out. In the past 16 months that I have had this phone I have become less and less satisfied and found that it is like much of today's technology....over rated and under performing. The one thing that I have never been accused of is not wanting, or not giving help but when a company makes itself unavailable to resolve issues and leaves it to forums run by users helping users, it speaks more about the company than anything else they could do. As I said, I do not make idle threats and I did not threaten you in any way. Guess I'll call this topic done with as it is not and was not the intent to get a war started

  • Why can I not sync my phone ? Keep getting message that computer is not authorised then I log in and it is. ios 8 problem?

Keep trying to sync my iphone 4s with my computer and keep getting an error message that my computer is no longer authorised. I follow instructions store> authorise computer and I then am told that computer is already authorised. Only started after ios 8.1.1 'upgrade' What the heck do I do ?

    Hello telboy17,
The article linked below details a number of steps that can help prevent iTunes from errantly requesting authorization.

  • Can I install InDesign CS6 and still keep my InDesign CS5 active?

I have addons in InDesign CS5 that is not compatible with CS6. Can I buy an SC6 subscription (Adobe Creative Cloud) and keep my Adobe InDesign CS5 with addons active (and activated)??

Honestly its hard to say , becuase it is not just the plugin but the complete suite in itself ,
First , Post your query on Indesign Forums , there you will find Indesign Expert who will let you will there be any conflict because of this on your CS6
Secondly, If I would have been at your place, I would have installed the CS6 trial first , used it and tested and if it would have worked , then I would have purchased it.

  • Can i delete the original photos and still keep them in iphoto?

My family has a ton of photos in several computers. I want to put it all in iphoto in my mac to keep it organized. But i have read other forums that iphoto COPIES the original photo file into iphoto.
Is it possible to have all the photos in iphoto without having an extra set in the computer's hard drive? For example, having 100 GB of photos (50 GB hard drive, 50 GB iphoto) doesn't make sense...
    any help is greatly appreciated

In case the iphoto library goes screwy for whatever reason, you've got them still. Personally, I find it hard to trust that single, packed library (inexperience and paranoia talking, granted).
    Just to clarify.
The iPhoto Library is a package. What's a package? It's a folder. It has the same properties as every other folder on your Mac except one. It looks like a file. That's the only difference.
It takes an extra step to open it: Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. See? Just a Folder with other folders inside.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
    Regards
    TD
