Can I refi my car or should I wait? Home buying in Dec.

Wanted to get everyones thoughts on this. Would it be wise to refinance my vehicle now, like on Monday, if I am planning to buy a house in December? Im currently in my vehicle at a rate of 14% and can get the refi done for about 3%.  Thats a large savings over the term of the loan and would decrease my monthly payments freeing up some cash to afford a little larger mortgage payment. How would that be viewed by the mortgage lender?  I know obtaining new credit prior to buying a home is a no no.  But if it saves money over the long term and increases monthly cash flow to get more home is it a justifiable move? I will probably start the pre-qual process for the home in mid October hoping to close on something before the year ends.  Feedback is appreciated.

Refinancing your vehicle is a good move for your DTI and a good financial move. It may or may not affect your FICO much, but it will be better for you in both the short run and the long run. I say go for it. You will probably have to write a letter of explanation for the refi inq but just explain exactly what you have here - better loan with better terms.

  • Should I wait to buy a new Macbook?

Should I wait to buy a a new Macbook until the Mountain Lion Software comes out?

I wouldn't wait - you are eligible to get Mountain Lion download free if you buy a new MacBook now, and it'll tkae Apple a few days (longer if not purchased directly from the Apple Store) to update the image. You aren't missing anything placing the order now.

  • Should I wait to buy a Macbook?

I have read so many great things about the Mac. I've read superb reviews from sites like Cnet and PCMag. Now that I looked into wireless networking with the Mac, I am thinking about waiting to buy one. I have read a few posts about crashes and kernels when running wireless on the Mac because of update 10.4.10. Has there been a patch for this problem? Also, I already have my wireless setup on my PC. I have a Linksys WRT54G router with a Motorola Surfboard SB5101. If I buy a Mac, would I have to reinstall the router software on it? Thanks for the help...

Like most things in life, it depends...
I bought a 1.83 GHz core2 duo Macbook in July 2007. For the most part, the Macbook is a very nicely designed and manufactured machine.
High points: nice keyboard, magsafe power connector, long battery life when running OSX, ability to run Windows XP or Vista natively, iLife software suite.
Low points: WiFi disconnects in OSX 10.4.10, lackluster LG/Philips LCD has a relatively narrow viewing angle and "only" 262,000 (18 bits) of color resolution. No PC-X or PCMCIA card slot.
I guess I'm biased because I bought a Macbook. I tend to run Vista on it more than OSX due to the WiFi issues in OSX (WiFi is OK in Vista). More importantly, I can run the current release of MS-Office in Vista. The Macbook is nice in that I can run either OS without 3rd party software or goofy emulators. I love tinkering with Garage Band in OSX for recreation. If you are planning to run Vista, upgrade to 2G of memory. The Macbook is nice for doing presentations, but you'll need a VGA or DVI pigtail adapter, each of which is a $20 accessory. Apple should've put a standard VGA socket on the Macbook, as VGA cords are the de facto video port in most every conference room.
The main reason you might want to delay purchase would be to have Leopard pre-installed or at least qualify for a low cost Leopard upgrade.

  • I'm running 10.6.8. Should I wait to buy Mountain Lion or buy 10.7 now? now?

I bought my MacBook Pro with 10.6.8 but it appears I need to buy the upgrade to 10.7 in order to use iCloud.  Can I upgrade to 10.7 for free? If not should I just wait to buy Mountain Lion this summer?

You cannot upgrade to Lion for free...the cost is low, though.  Only $30 (US).  That will get you more than just iCloud, there are other features as well.
Apple has announced some of the features of Mountain Lion on the website, are those features imporant to you?  If you can live without iCloud until ML is released, date of which has not been announced, then the decision to buy now or wait is up to you.  If you can make good use of iCloud now, then why wait?

  • Should i wait with buying a macbook pro for the mac os x lion software?

    Hi there,
I've been saving up some money to buy myself a MacBook Pro 13", but I've been told to wait for the new lion upgrade.
It's not that I need the macbook right now, I mean, I can wait, but I don't want to wait for a system that's not refined yet.
I'm afraid the system might have bugs or issues or things...
So my question: should I wait till June/July with buying, or buy one now and have a good working system?
And do any of you guys know whether there'll be some kind of a grace period where they give you the new upgrade for free?
    Thanks in advance!

My take is to buy it when you need it. If that's now then buy it now. You can always upgrade to Lion when it comes out.

  • Should I wait to buy ZEN Micro Ph

I am getting a part-time job soon and want to buy the ZEN Micro, but the ZEN Micro Photo is coming out in Summer 2005, and that looks good, so should I get the ZEN Micro or wait for the Colour screen version?
P.S I had my Muvo TX 256MB for 3 weeks and is great, though I should have waited and got the 52MB version it is only 70GBP at eBuyer now.

I was in the same situation as you, wanting a Zen Micro but wondered if I should wait till the Zen Micro Photo came out. I decided that I didn't need the colour screen to show people photos and just wanted a small portable music player so I went with a Black Zen Micro and I am very happy that I did

The only thing in that list that will eventaully be resolved are the applications. There will be a new CD released that works in Vista. Decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS is no longer supported at the driver level by Vista. You will need to use software that has the capability to do so. DVD-Audio will not be supported. DirectSound was removed from Vista, DirectSound EAX games require ALchemy to function properly and only certain games are supported. 6. Speaker mode is not supported in Vista.

  • During initial charge, can i transfer songs? or should i wait till after? ASAP plea

hey guys...im getting my zen touch in the mail today around 0. i have classes from -3 and i heard you should full charge the battery once you get the touch and was wondering if i plugged the zen in and transfered the songs i have ready to transfer or if i should do the initial charge to full and then transfer (while keeping it plugged in)?

It doesn't matter because the mains adapter provides more than enough current to power both the player and charge at the same time, just make sure that the charge itself completes fully (it should take a maximum of 4 hours).

  • Should I wait to buy LR?

New to LR so I am using LR 3 trail (20 days left) and was set to order the boxed version when I found about LR4 Beta.
    What should I do now:
    1. Buy LR3 and upgrade later to LR4 with a price premium?
    2. Install LR 4 Beta and use it to create all my catalogs and develop and make the purchase when LR4 is released?
With 1. the disadvantage is obviously price and having to adjust to a new version so soon. With 2. I am afraid the development adjustments won't be the same on the full release. What's you suggestion?

Well, you've pretty much figured out the issues.
Historically, the upgrade to the next release has been $99. No guarantees that it will be that this time.
With #2 some of your changes may not carry across looking the same, and there's always a risk with beta software that it has a catastrophic bug hiding in it somewhere that will come out and eat all your changes. Personally, I don't do anything on the beta that I'm not willing to lose.
You say "to create all my catalogues". Do yourself a huge favour, and create just one. Lightroom works far better as a digital asset manager (DAM) if you only have one. There are a few "corner cases" where having more than one can make sense, but until you know enough to work out what they are on your own, it's best to stick with only one.

  • Should I wait to buy my MBP?

I have been a Windows/Linux user. Now I finally can't stand my old T21 any more and decided to switch to Mac. I want to get a 15" MBP. But I heard the display of this model is somewhat problemtic (and it may be improved in several months). And since Leopard is going to be released pretty soon, I wonder whether I should wait for another two months(?) or not.
Would it be possible to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard for free? ^_^

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
To avoid problems with the display, I recommend against getting the glossy display. You have the option between glossy and matte. And you have the ability to alter the display gamma to one that suits you in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. Don't forget, you can attach up to a 30" external LCD if you so desired. As for what will be released in the future, that's anyone's guess, and if you read the Terms of use on the right, no one here can answer that question without violating them:
    "2. Submissions
Search or browse for existing answers before you ask a question. Someone else may have asked your question — it may save you some time.
Stay on topic. Apple's discussion forums are here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, don't add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
That Apple rumor you saw on another website.
Discussions of Apple policies or procedures.
    Speculations/rumors about unannounced products.
The status of your 1973 MG Midget restoration."
So please refrain from asking questions which would require speculation about unannounced products.
Leopard has many nice features, but there is one thing to know about Macs, and that is no Mac can have an operating system installed that is older than it is. If you hold off till Leopard is released, you'll also have to hold off till all the Mac OS X native software has caught up and is also Leopard compatible. Chances are more will be, but you never with items that modify system appearance and other features that are non-standard. Sure you could run Windows on that Mac until then, but why, when you have perfectly good working operating system, available now with known working software packages.
As for upgrading for free, no. "Free" updates on exist from:
    10.4 to 10.4.8
    10.3 to 10.3.9
    10.2 to 10.2.8
    10.1 to 10.1.5
    10.0 to 10.0.4*
    9.0 to 9.2.2
    8.5 to 8.6
    8.0 to 8.1
But not the intermediate larger updates. An up to date program has in the past existed, but only for Macs released after the official release date has been announced. As for Leopard's official date, all we have is Spring 2007 and nothing more specific. That up to date program was $20 for the last several paid versions. So if past trends hold true, you'll have to wait for that Spring 2007 to become more specific and then see if http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ page gets updated with a program.
    * A limited time free update was available from 10.0 to 10.1. This was the only exception to the rule.
Don't let the preponderance of issues here deter you, as this is a troubleshooting board and rarely people without problems report in. Most people don't have them.

  • Should I wait to buy an iPhone or buy one now?

First off, I know for a fact that I am going to get an iPhone, but I just can't decide if I want to buy one now or wait for iPhone 2.0. The main reason for my hesitancy is the lack of 3G. All of iPhone's other missing features don't really concern me because they can be fixed through software updates. If Apple is going to release a 3G iPhone within the next 6 months or so then I might want to wait, but if it's going to be a year or more, then I'll probably just buy one now and suck it up with EDGE. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas to when Apple might be planning to release a 3G iPhone? Any ideas that would help me make this decision would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Maybe you should get yer wife a V2 and keep the V1.
Are you saying he should get a new wife just to upgrade his iPhone? Or get a new wife for his existing wife? Depending on how much he likes his current wife, it may be simpler (and cheaper, frankly), simply to upgrade the phone and not the wife.

  • Should I wait to buy? (Antennagate)

    Hello,
I have been considering this for a while and I finally decided I want to buy an iphone. The problem is that I don't know if I should wait for apple to physically fix the antenna problem or just buy it now. I know that if I where to buy it today and Apple were to release the iphone 4b shortly after then I'd be pretty ticked off.
I know you guys probably know as much as me on this situation but should I buy the iphone 4 now or wait another month to see if a fixed version comes out.

There is no "Antennagate", to worry about. I have several iPhone 4 both for business and pleasure. Several family members and friends here in Canada also have the iPhone 4 and none of them report any "antennagate" issue. If you can hold your hand over the iPhone and cause it to drop from 5 bars to no bars then it's defective and should be swapped. If though you experience what every cellphone user experiences by watching it drop one bar from what every you're seeing before holding it then that's normal. The only true reception complaints seem to come from AT&T users in the USA due to living in already known bad reception areas or in Canada those on either Bell, Telus or Virgin Mobile due to none of the three networks provide backwards support for EDGE. So when the user goes into a none 3G area the iPhone data won't function. My family, friends and myself are all on Rogers HSPA+ network in Canada which supports EDGE when in fringe areas. I have a far better experience with the iPhone 4 than I had with my previous iPhones and other smartphones such as Blackberry.

  • Should I wait to buy an ipod or just say forget it and do it.

I'm currently running a powerbook, and I want to buy an ipod..but I'd be using the ipod on windows as well.
Should I just say forget it, and wait until I decide on one machine or the other, or should I buy it anyways?
This is my first ipod I'd be buying myself so I'm not sure what to do.

Format the iPod on your Windows machine and set it up to Manually manage your music and you can use it on both machines. You will have to manually drag music from your libraries to the iPod and any software updates will need to be done on the Windows machine. Your Powerbook can read a Windows formatted iPod, but you need to be using iTunes 8.0.2 on each machine. You will also have to manually eject the iPod when you are through adding music.

  • Should I wait to buy a MacBook Pro until Mountain Lion comes out?

I just don't want to lose any info I have if I buy now and then upgrade to Mountain Lion. Or mess something up, since I'd probably do that. (note: not the macbook pro with retina display, just a regular macbook pro).

Upgrading will not cause any data to be lost. If you are concerned about data loss, you may consider backing up to an external drive. You should probably be doing that anyway, since hard drives can fail at any time . In case you didn't already know, Macs purchased in between June 11th 2012 and the day of Mountain Lion's release qualify for a FREE Mountain Lion upgrade. Anyway, I would not worry about data loss.

  • Should I wait to buy my iMac when apple upgrades it to support  802.11ac Wi-Fi ?

Since apple released the Macbook air that supports 802.11ac wi fi, is it going to do the same with all the others products? Being so, I understand that if I by an imac today, it will not support 802.11ac. And this imac will not make the most out of the new airport extreme that delivers 802.11ac (even though the new airport extreme supports 802.11n), isn't that right?

Well, it is reasonable to expect that, yes, the other hardware will get upgraded to ac as it gets updated.  As to when any particular model line will get updated, that is anybody's guess.  Nobody has any idea how long you may have to wait for that one particular feature.  Only you can decide if you are better off waiting or getting what you need now.
Are you even maxing out your 802.11n network speed and bandwidth now?  If not, then having ac is sort of moot, isn't it?  Sort of like having a car capable of 200mph, but the traffic volume never lets you get above 70 anyway, it really just does not matter.
