Can I skip ACR to PS with raw files??

I have raw files (RAF from Fuji S5) and I am trying to figure out if it's possible to bypass opening them in Camera Raw from Bridge. After using quick develop settings with in Bridge I would like to open a group of images with a photoshop batch action that I have created. I prefer to go directly to photoshop cs3 for processing the images, resizing, adding borders, preparing images for book pages, adding custom shapes and so on. I usually do all these with actions to a batch of files. But instead I have to open them all in Camera Raw, select them all and then open them in PS.
it's driving me insane
thanks

It is just a matter of setting up the batch properly. After you have selected your files in Bridge and now have the batch dialog open, just make sure that you have the "override file open command" (or something like that) selected. Then your action will simply load the files into Photoshop.

Download the newest DNG converter from Adobe, convert your RAW photos to DNG, and then Import into Lightroom.

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

  • Working with Raw files from newer camera in CS or CS2

I have a Canon 40d camera. I'm still using CS at home and CS2 at work.
In order to work with these files in these earlier versions of PS, I have to first convert them to DNG files. Though not a complete drag, it is a bit time-consuming. Am I sort of stuck with this unless I upgrade to CS3?
Also, (and I realize it may not be off topic), is there any particular reason Canon can't use the same type of RAW file for all the cameras, instead of a new RAW file type, or why have they not embraced DNG support?
    Best, David

    freedda,
I know you have probably read this many times before. But ACR in Photoshop CS3 is vastly improved. There are numerous new controls that provide you with much greater flexibility with your raw images. Unless there are other factors preventing you from upgrading, it is my opinion that you would find the upgrade well worth the investment.

  • Working with RAW files in PSE9:  Doable or better to use PSE12?

I have PSE 9 and will soon get a camera with RAW capability.  I notice that Adobe no longer supports PSE 9.  Am I in for trouble if I don't upgrade to PSE 12 since I don't know how to work with RAW files?  It sounds as if I will need something to convert RAW files?  Where do I get it?  Is it a big deal for a beginner with no software skills?

You can download a free DNG Converter from Adobe and then convert your RAWs to DNGs which can be used in PSE9.
You don't need PSE12, but if you want to purchase PSE 12, you get the most current features in the Raw processor (which in my opinion is a huge improvement over what is available in PSE9), and you don't need the extra step of converting to DNG.

  • Working with RAW files in iPhoto 5.0.4 and Elements 4.0.1

I take photos in RAW mode and download them to iPhoto. When I try to edit the photo in iPhoto, the picture is a tiny little file that is impossible to enlarge with any sort of clarity. Also, the word "RAW" does not appear anywhere on the iPhoto window like I read it is supposed to.
When I drag the file to Photoshop Elements, I get an editing window that has none of the tools usually associated with JPEG files. I get a separate window in which I can darken or lighten the image, that's it.
Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. No one in their right mind would ever use RAW if this is how it works.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jack!
If you're new working with RAW files, your right, it just doesn't make sense. RAW <imho> is a bit overrated. One thing you will need to keep in mind when shooting in RAW, is you will still need to take a well exposed image. What RAW files will allow are CHANGES in all areas of the image v. JPEG which may allow you to ADJUST a few settings in the image. My only suggestion would be to kepp playing around with PSE until you get the hang of it, it is an excellent image editing software. But realize, a well exposed JPEG and RAW file are hard to tell apart...
Personally, I do not directly download RAW files through iPhoto but will create a folder and download to here, and simply drage folder to iPhoto to import (which are then 'converted' into JPEG files). This way I have the original RAW images safely located outside of iPhoto as well as in iPhoto. You should set Elements as your choice of application to edit files inside iPhoto.
    Good luck, Rick

  • Working with Raw files in Aperture

I bought a DSL are camera recently and have been shooting RAW
Naturally my library is filling up with raw files
My question is - when I want to export a very high quality image how do I get it out of Aperture and keep it as a large ihigh-quality image in raw?
The export options that I have - from dragging to the desktop to sharing as-  all end up leaving me with a JPEG image which might only be two or 3 MB. The raw file can often be 10 or 15 MB
So what is the best way to output the full image?

I have a RAW file (22 mbs),  I can see from your helpful guidance that I can go into Aperture/Preferences/Export and set the export format to (for example)  Tiff 16 bit.  When I do that the exported Tiff file is 53 mbs,  sounds like I have a got a pretty full version there with all the information store in it so no compaints.
I have another option, export as jpeg in 'original size'.  When I set that and then  'Share as email', the resulting image is 2.2 mbs.  Do you think a 2.2mb jpeg can be the full high quality image ?
My knowledge of this area, isas you can see, a bit limited. I do understand that if I was sending the image to a printer to get a high quality image, I would send him the 53 mb  Tiff file,   but is the 2.2 mb jpeg a lower resolution cut doewn version of the original  ?

  • Why can't I download Canon S100 CR2 RAW files into PSE 10?

I am using PSE 10 with a Canon S100 camera. I am successful in downloading all of my jpeg files and RAW CR2 files from my older Canon Rebel, but not with the Canon S100 CR2 Raw files.
When first downloading from the Canon S100 camera into PSE 10 and later doing them manually, I receive the following messages:  Nothing imported...files are not supported file types or alread in catalog.  File damaged or in a format that cannot be included in the Elements Organizer.
These problems files, by the way, were automatically added to my Window's My Pictures catalog and are perfectly fine.

Thank you for the info. It worked great, once I was
able to get around a second problem that prevented updating
from within the PSE 10 application (error U41M1C212). That
problem was solved by disabling the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport
Adapter (located in the Network and Sharing Center control
panel). It just goes to show me once again, how complex
computer apps are and how much we all have to rely on each
other to get anything to work properly (frustratingly
enough, since the companies we paid good money to for
their problematic software are not very helpful). Thanks
    again.

  • Browsing directory with RAW files

Is there any way to browse directory with RAW files? I can use dcraw, ufraw or rawstudio to work on single file, but how to find the file I want in directory with more than 100 RAWs?

I use rawtherapee for most of my photo editing needs.  (Not that I have an especially high skill level.)  It provides, among other things, a browser interface for moving through your files.  It looks like AUR still has version 2.3 -- I suggest the beta instead, which is available for x86_64 or x86 right from www.rawtherapee.com -- IME it's been very stable, and it contains many, many bugfixes and interface/workflow improvements over the current "release" version.
I haven't broadly sampled a bunch of different apps, but I've been very happy with it.
No installation is required, just extract to the directory of your choice and execute "rt" to run it.
To get it working on Arch, I did have to do this step first, as noted in the comments in AUR:
As root run "gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/THEME" for the Icon-THEME you are using and rawtherapee starts nicely.
If you try running it without first doing that, and it fails to start up, check to see whether you need to kill the "rt" process before trying again.
I've been using it since 2.3 was first released (IIRC) and have used it under Ubuntu and openSUSE successfully, in addition to Arch, both x86 and x86_64.

  • Trouble with iPhoto after latest update for compatibility with RAW-files

Hi all, I'm having serious trouble with iPhoto since the latest update for compatibility with RAW-files for digital fotocamera's (version 2.4).
After connection with the camera iphoto starts up as usual and i can start importing my pictures. So far all goes well. After having imported my pictures (visual with thumbs and so one) and having created an event iPhoto isn't able to show any pictures. Stopping and restarting Iphoto gives a message that there are a number of photo's available that havent been imported yet (!!???). I can choose to import or ignore. Whatever i choose i'm not capable of visualising the photo's.
Anyone with a similar problem and the solution? Can i remove the update?
I've tried several camera's all with the same problem.
    thx for any replies
    niki001

Hi Terence, thanks for the reply (i'll wait with the downgrade for now ;-p).
I made a small step by step report of my findings:
    1. Attach camera to imac
    2. iPhoto starts up with previews of the pictures (so far so good)
    3. Give event-name and start import ( so far so good)
    4. 'Latest Import'-report all fine, previews ok, check with event : previews fine. All seems well
    5. disconnect camera, stop iPhoto. As far as now all seems normal.
    6. Restart iPhoto : Message 'iPhoto Library contains photo's which havent been imported. Import Y/N?'.!!!???
    7. Option Y : IPhoto imports photo's imported in step 3 in a new event box (shown as a 'black box' on screen). Last made event (step 3) shows up as a black square in overview all events. Double click on event gives empty squares where previews should appear. Double click on photo preview gives large explanationmark on screen.
    8. Drag event-box over screen shows thumbs within square, release event returns to 'black box'.
    9. Shut down iPhoto.
    10. Restart iPhoto jumps back to step 6 as long as i keep answering Y.(Each time creating a new extra 'black box event').
    11. When i now look within iPhoto Library i can find a map Import in which i can find back the last imported photo's from step 3.
    12. Dragging these pictures to my desktop (preview gives no problem at all) and from there back in to iPhoto simply recreats a new 'black box event'.
    13. In step 6 option N gives a message 'creat iphoto Library recovered'. In iPhoto Library map Import has disapeared.
14.When looking into map 'iphoto Library recovered' i can find my originally iported photo's. However same problem as in step 12.
I used aperture (trial version) to see wether the problem could be photo-related, but here al goes well.
    So, any idea's???
    thx

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.

  • Issues with RAW files from my 7D

I have Aperture 1.5.6 on my computer and the software updater says that is the current version. I shoot with a 20D and a 7D. I upload my raw files to Aperture and edit them from there and then process for a jpeg. However, every time I upload a raw file from my 7D I get the following message when I click on it to edit it: Unsupported Image format.
Any words of advice, other than just buy Aperture 3??

I have Aperture 2.X and had zero issues with RAW files from a 7D, so I think the problem is you are on 1.X. Converting to DNG first was a good suggestion if you don't want to purchase 3.X. Yet another reason to hate proprietary raw image file formats.......

  • Can I update Elements 9 to handle RAW files from a Nikon D5200

Can I update Elements 9 to open RAW files from a Nikon D5200, or do I have to buy something?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.4
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
