Can I use apple configurator to automatically shut down iPads to preserve my school's bandwidth?

Can I use apple configurator to automatically shut down iPads to preserve my school's bandwidth?

No, not if you mean remotely. Configurator does not allow any sort of remote control of the iPads. It's only for setting them up when connected to your master computer. There may be third-party MDM systems that might offer some such remote control over WiFi connections, though I can't tell you any that do.  This of course will not work on any iPad that's not in your control (usually ones that the school owns) and can get set up with the MDM solution. If you're concerned about iPads and other devices that the students own personally, you may need to control your WiFi access points instead.
Regards.

  • Can I use Apple Configurator 1.6 to install Apps from multiple iTunes accounts on 30 iPads

Can I use Apple Configurator 1.6 to install Apps from multiple iTunes accounts on 30 iPads in South Korea?

Thank you again.  I am actually just using a single computer at thsi time but will be setting up a Mac Mini in a day or so.
I actually believe I authorized my Mac Book for both my wife and my iTunes account.  Yesterday when I hooked her iPhone up it told me that my computer was not authorized to download an app, i had to authorize this macbook.
So if the Apps from both iTunes account  is on my Mac Book and I hook up my iPhone it will allow my to transfer the apps from my computer to my iphone?  So lets say I am logged into iTunes account #1 and I try to use an app from iTunes account #2 will I have to do anything special?
    Again thanks

  • Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. any suggestions?

Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. I now have to go to the apple icon in the upper left corner.  Any short cuts instead of going to the apple in the top left corner and hitting shut down.  Doing that all the time, I feel like I am back at work using a "Windows" computer.

This a is tricky one, but you can still do it. Instead of pressing the power button, hold it down for a few seconds and then you'll see the shut down options dialog pop up.
I guess they were trying to prevent accidental touching of that button. They did something similar with the Eject button a few versions ago, where you have to hold down Eject instead of just tapping it so that you don't pop out a CD by mistake.

  • Can I use apple tv (2s) to mirror my ipad (new) without wifi network PtoP

I want use my apple TV ( 2s) in sites where no exist wifi,,  only de HD TV ,,  for presentations,,  etc. with my new ipad and iphone 4S...

" If " your presentations require Internet access for the purpose of presenting Internet based content then without Internet access this won't work.
..... if that is the case are you in a position to add a data plan to your iPad? If so, you could bring: iPad, ATV, and AE to presentations. Setup would be fast, assuming each flat panel TV has easily accessible HDMI input and of course assuming you'd be in a location where you're data plan signal wasn't blocked by: a large building, metal, some other dead spot issue.

  • Using Apple Configurator

    Hi everyone,
We have approx. 2000 iPad/iPhone, and I had to prepare them all one by one. I'm now tired of doing this and I would like to prepare them as fast as possible, using Apple Configurator.
Each iPad/iPhone is enrolled on our MDM (MobileIron). But to allow the enrollement, I have many steps to do before :
    1. Update iOS
    2. Transfer our company wallpaper
    3. Pass the first settings screens (Language, Wifi, General Terms of Use etc.)
    4. Change wallpaper + activate lockscreen code (for MDM)
    5. Create an Apple ID (to assist user but especially to install Mobile Iron app via AppStore)
    6. Install 6 different app from Appstore (free ones, no Volum Purchase)
    7. Enroll user via MobileIron app
As I know, steps 1 to 4 are possible via Apple Configurator, but I don't know if profiles will be installed or not.
Step 5 is avoidable (I guess) but it's mainly to help users and to keep control on accounts.
Step 6 is THE part I would like to avoid, but I can't find how it's possible to install apps without and Apple ID.
    Step 7 is not avoidable.
    Anyone has an idea ?
    Thanks
    Steven

    Hi Steven,
There are many ways to deploy iPads, and no one way is "the right way." They all have their pros and cons and are dependent on your deployment scenario. I've never used MobileIron, but I have used other MDMs and have streamlined a process that works well for us in our school district. Some MDM's have the ability to create enrollment profiles that could be installed using Apple Configurator (which would get rid of your Step 7 for enrolling into the MDM). Some MDMs also offer MDM enrollment by logging in to a website and downloading an enrollment profile wirelessly, which would also get rid of Step 7 for you. Regarding Step 6… with Apple Configurator you can install apps using one Apple ID (not requiring the end user to enter an Apple ID or password), but this requires the iPad(s) to be plugged in via USB to the provisioning computer. While app installation is technically possible wirelessly without Apple IDs, it requires an unsupported workaround that may or may not be possible with your MDM. Check with the MobileIron folks to see if they are aware of any workarounds and  potential caveats.
A way to accomplish Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 would be to create an "image" of one iPad and restoring that image on all of your other iPads. This can be done with iTunes by creating an encrypted backup (which holds passwords and many other customized settings) and restoring it to each of your iPads. You can also use Apple Configurator to create a backup and restore that backup to each of your iPads. You can install configuration profiles with Apple Configurator as well as apps so that may save you some steps too (can't install configuration profiles with iTunes). You can also use your MDM to install configuration profiles once they are enrolled.
Our process starts with restoring an encrypted backup using iTunes, which also includes the installation of a few basic apps. This takes care of Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. For staff members, we have them enroll into our MDM using a bookmark/webclip that we include in our encrypted backup. They log in and install the enrollment profile onto their iPads wirelessly through the website. For students, we install an enrollment profile using Apple Configurator. This takes care of Step 7. For Step 5, we give staff members the instructions listed on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534 . We are also able to deploy apps after deploying using a customized app store, a feature that our MDM provider has available.
Depending on the tools you have (MDM) and ownership model you choose I'm sure you will find the deployment process that will be most efficient for you and your users.
    Hope this helps!
    ~Joe

  • How can I distribute the free version of Numbers, Keynote, and Pages using Apple Configurator

I am trying to use Apple Configurator to mamnge a set of classroom iPads.  I have figured out how to purchase apps via the VPP account and distribute them, but I can't figure out how to distribute the free versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.  When I try downloading these apps on the Mac running Configurator, they show up as a paid version.  Currently, I have to disable the option in Configurator that removes non-mamanged apps and then install the apps manually on each iPad.  Does anyone have a better option than this.  My hope was to be able to completely manage the iPads by simply pugging them into the Mac.

The apps is not only for iPhone 5c and 5s. its for all apple products that are purchased with iOS 7. I don't believe if you already have the product then update it to iOS 7 that the apps will be free. I believe that you have to purchase the product on or after the 18th since iOS 7 will already be on the products.
Edit...All compatible iOS 7 products activated on or after September 1st, 2013 will recieve the iWork apps for free. So yes he/she will recieve the apps

  • Second replacement unit automatically shuts down and never opened again. can i asked for a brand new replacement since it'll be my third replacement?

Last September 13, 2011 I purchased an Iphone 4. I was told that it's warranty is good for 1 year. On may 13 2012, the sleep/wake button of my iphone malfunctioned. I immediately brought it to store where i bought the unit. They sent it to Singapore for service. 10 days after, on May 23, 2012, I received a text message from them telling me that my "replacement unit is available for pick up". Meaning that my old unit was replaced. When the customer representative and I checked the replacement unit issued to me, we saw deep scratches in front and back of the unit. I returned the unit to them because of the deep scratches. They told me that they'll return it to Singapore and will make a new report. Comes June 12, 2012 when i received a message again from them saying that my replacement unit is again available for pick up. the customer service representative and I checked the unit again for scratches. Finally the unit is clean. On June 23, 2012, the replacement unit issued to me automatically shuts down for 8 times. i quickly brought it to the store. Even their security saw the problem of my iphone (because he helped me troubleshoot it first). on the last time we tried opening it, it hanged and didn't continue to open. So for the third time, the unit is again subject for check up to see if it is under warranty. my concern is, apple is very vocal about their warranty which is "replacement".. Is there anything I can do to ask for a good unit from apple since this matter is a big inconvenience for me where in i have to provide myself another phone where i can use my number. and the worry that i might get another bad replacement unit.

Of course you can ask... asking is always an option.  Regardless, it is always up to Apple as to whether the device is replaced with service units or new.

  • HT5927 Using apple configurator with supervised devises, enabling iCloud/ find my iOS device (after being supervised), backing up that supervised / find my iPhone enabled image, --issue; unable to apply back up to any iOS device (including the orign. devi

    Senario:
Need to manage 500 Enterprise iPads
    Requirements;
    1) Trackable via Find my iOS device  (we have 500 iPads and with the 100 device limit per iCloud account for Find my iOS device limit we have 5+ iCloud accounts).
    2) Individually named iPads for locating and sending commands to wipe, lost mode, etc.. on map per Find my iOS device (we uniquely name them in Apple Configurator either by using the "sequensetially numbering feature", or by creating individual back ups (yes, 450) with the name specified in the image).
    3) Find my iOS device feature enabled in base Prepared or Supervised image (using one of our 5+ iCloud accounts) (image can be created during prepared stage, or in supervised stage) - tried both and have the same issue - which I am getting to...
    4) VPP codes for paid apps (all VPP codes purchased with generic account which is the Apple Admin account for VPP purchases). Apple Configurator is set up under a different/ unique Apple account (i.e. not VPP admin account) and not logged into iTunes for any purchases/ services).
    Issue: Can not do any following senarios;
    A)
         1) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Prepare stage (added during preparing stage)
         2) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Supervised stage (added after supervising, and then backing up that supervised and iOS Find my iOS device enabled)
    B) 1) Apply master image to any Supervised iPad (under senario step A) or senario step B)), including the (Supervised or/ Prepared iPad that was used to create the maset iOS 7 image
Result = fail with Apple generic code "4" ; This is obviously due to Find my iOS device feature enabled during image capture.
According to Apple (see Apple Config. Help) the 'Activation lock' (new feature in iOS 7) will not be enabled on a supervised device when an iCloud account with "Find my iDevice" is enabled. Their "help files" seem to imply after the device is Supervised, and a person (presumably and end user) adds thier own iCloud account with Find my iOS device enabled the activation lock is not enabled and erasing/ reconfiguring with Apple Configurator will not cause reimaging probhlems such as requiring the end user's credentials to reconfigure the device using Apple Configurator (i.e. you won't need the end user's credentials).
Needed: To be able to configure Supervised iPads with iCloud account (Enterprised owned iCloud account) configured on the basse image, which has Find my iOS device enabled, and to be able to apply that base image to all Enterprise iPads without generic apple error code 4 issue.

    Hi all
I am trying to replicate these steps in my environment but I am having trouble getting an iCloud backup restored to a supervised device. Can someone clarify the steps? The parts I am unsure on are:
    1) Do you Prepare in Configurator with all the institution owned apps? Or do you install them after restoring the iCloud backup?
    2) After entering the personal AppleID to restore the iCloud backup, the setup wizard prompts for the Institution/Configurator AppleID, there is an option to 'Skip Now'. Do you enter in the password for the institution account? or do you skip that step?
    3) What exactly is on the screen in the 'mini setup assistant' after the restore when you Refresh with Configurator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Trouble using apple configurator

I have been trying to setup 20 iPads using Apple configurator for the last couple of days. I purchased all of my codes for each of the apps I want to install on the iPads. I have everything setup, but for some reason whenever I try to put the apps on the iPads using the codes through Apple configurator, I get an error saying that the code could not be redeemed and that I need to put my Apple ID and password in. I have authorized the computer with itunes and have done everything that I can think of, but I continue to get the same error. I am clearly missing something and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Restarting Apple Configurator and/or redownloading and reimporting the VPP codes will often cure this issue.
You should receive a pop up prompt, within Apple Configurator, asking you to sign in with your Apple ID* when trying to deploy apps that are using VPP codes to any iPads. Sometimes this prompt doesn't appear but disconnecting all the iPads and restarting Apple Configurator normally cures it.
*This should be the Apple ID you used to download the app within iTunes before you imported the app into Apple Configurator - not the VPP account used to purchase the VPP codes.

  • HT2500 Can I use Apple Mail on my ipad and on a pc using safari browser

Can I use Apple Mail on my ipad and on a pc using safari browser

You would configure the iPad to connect to your email provider's IMAP servers.  How that's done is specific to whatever mail provider you use.  If it's one of the major email services like AOL, Hotmail or Yahoo, then you should be able to just create a new mail account on the iPad and follow the instructions you see on the iPad.  If your email is not listed, then you'll need to contact your mail provider so you can know what to enter for the server name, etc.

  • HT4061 my ipad automatically shut down and now i lost al savings and in-app purchases the battery was on 50% what happened and can i get my purchases back

my ipad automatically shut down and now i lost al savings and in-app purchases the battery was on 50% what happened and can i get my purchases back

    Hi there,
This seems very frustrating. An iPad can shut down randomally for many reasons, just like a computer can crash. If it begins to happen regularly, then do contact Apple, but there are no signs that your iPad is malfunctioning from just one shut down like this.
But, you should be able to get all your in-app purchases back. In some apps, there is a 'restore purchases' button, which will download all the purchases you made for free.
In some cases, you can tap to make the purchase again, and it will be downloaded at no charge, however this does not happen with consumable items such as coins and credits.
I reccomend contacting iTunes Store Support at the link below, they will take a closer look at your purchases and give you further steps on redeeming them. They may also refund you if they have been lost.
    iTunes Store Support
You can also contact the developer of the app, and report the crash and missing purchases. If you tell me the app, I'll give you the relevent contact in the developers.
Other than that, sorry for the problems, and have a great day,
    Nathan

I always run a Time Machine backup before updating anything and recommend you run a backup as well. Paid apps should migrate over without any problem. If you have problems with VPP codes not transfering over properly, you can talk to your Apple SE or contact VPP for Education support and they can help you. While I haven't experienced any problems with updating, its never a guarantee that others will have the same experience.
    Good luck!
