Can I use applescript to export a PDF file from keynote?
I use keynote to create documentation. Once complete I export the keynote to a PDF and then package the pdf into an adobe acrobat reader portfolio. I desperately need to script this process. Is it possible to export a PDF from keynote via applescript? The second 1/2 is can I tell acrobat reader to import files into a portfolio. Thanks much for any help.
I believe this is one of the few things Applescript can accomplish with Keynote '09. You can send keyboard short-cuts to Menu Commands in an Applescript – so you can just send a Cmd-P to KN'09. As for setting the Print/PDF options not sure but the dialogue remembers previous settings so you'd only have to set once at most per batch of slideshows. Post on Applescript thread to get specific scripting advice or Applescript developers email list.

The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
tell application "Microsoft Word"
set doc_count to count documents
repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
end repeat
end tell

How can I use my time capsule to save files from my windows PC (Windows 8.1)?
I have been to see the iStore close to where I live but I am frustrated to say that they are no help what so ever. The technical desk there freely admits that they do not how to do it and all they say is "apparently it is easy. Just follow the instructions on screen" which helps me no end!
I have the Time Capsule set up on my mac and want to use part of the disc to save my files from my Windows PC (running Windows 8.1) that is on the same home network.

Although it is for windows 7 it does work on 8 and 8.1 .. tell us if you have problems loading it. Some people find it won't work without using safe mode.
The utility will not help a lot to setup the latest model TC.. it is fine for Gen4 and earlier. But it does load bonjour for windows and a disk access agent.
The TC should run simple names.. Short.. keep them below 10 characters if you can. No spaces and pure alphanumeric.
That includes the base station name and wireless name.
Once all of that is correct, open windows explorer and type in the address bar.
\\TCname or \\TCipaddress where you replace TCname with the new short name or TCipaddress with obviously its actual IP.
You will then get a request for username and password. Username is whatever.. admin will do. Password type in your disk access password.. public by default.
TC is not designed to allow partitions so you cannot partition the TC disk. Create a folder and simply copy and paste your files to the folder.
NOTE:: The TC cannot back itself up. So make sure you do not move files to the TC without having another copy.
NOTE:: The TC does not happily mix TM backups and data.

Thanks for any enlightenment.Did you set it to copy full-resolution photos??? If so, enable your iPod for disk use, open my computer, click on your iPod, and open the pictures folder. You can just drag them from there. If you didn't, use a program such a CopyPod Photo (google it) to copy photos from your iPod. Note that the files will only be the same resolution as your iPod screen (320x240) and not worth using for anything else. If you want to use it for sharing, definitely go with the full-res option. It is at the bottom of the photos pane in the iPod screen in iTunes.

Can I use applescript to export PDF search results from "preview"?
My question is about "Preview". I have a very large PDF document that I am using preview to view. After doing a search for a specific word, preview has returned 1200 results. The results panel shows the page number the result is found on and the line of text on which the searched-for-word is found.
My question is this: Is there a way to export this information from preview to something like an excel file? The end result would look like a table with two columns. One with the page numbers and one with the line of text in which the word appears.
Is this something that can be done with applescript? I don't know if the system even stores that kind of information... /sigh. Loosing images when exporting to pdf file from Indesign?
I didn't have this problem before, however as I started using the master page presets some of the pages are not saving properly to pdf version. The master sheets doesnt show up on some of the pages but shows up on others.
Does anyone know why that is?It does not show in preview.
It shows in the indesign file, but not in preview. The stuff that disappears are from the master page, they show on some pages but not on others. Which is very strange.
I have taken more shots.
Master F sheet is applied for this page.
The other page i posted previously started working when I applied a different master sheet over it. -
IBook can't open a 5.6 MB PDF file from hardwarezone price list.
Ipad mini only show blank pages when I open a 5.6MB. Problem persist after 10x of power cycle. Sometime my ipad mini just hang.

I'M USING ACROBAT X TO CREATE PDF FILES FROM AUTOCAD 12 DRAWINGS. THE PROGRAM RANDOMLY LEAVES OUT TEXT AND IMAGES. IT ALSO STRUGGLES WITH TIFF, JPEG AND PDF IMAGE FILES EMBEDDED WITHIN THE AUTOCAD DRAWING. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ACROBAT. I WAS HOPING THE UPGRADE TO X WOULD ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT.

Can I use preview to export multiple page PDF as jpegs?
Using Preview, I export multiple page PDF as jpeg and results are the first page only as jpeg. Can I use preview to export multiple page PDF as jpeg for every page?
Automator is great for this if you need to export many pages to JPG, or just have to do this often.
Two other quick and dirty way sto get it done:
(1) Enable thumbnail view, click on the ONE PAGE you want to convert to jpg, then choose "export." If you choose more than one page, only the first will get exported to jpg.
(2) Create a copy of the file, delete all the pages except the one you want to export to JPG, and export that page. You may be able to "undo" the delete, get all your pages back again, and re-delete all but the one you want to export, etc. I would not recommend doing this on the original version of the file because of Preview's autosave so-called "feature." -
