Can i use Oracle9i 9.2.0.5 JDBC on oracle8i ??

Hi all!!
My java app is developed under Weblogic 6.1 and oracle 8i, but we are migrating it to weblogic 8.1, and we have some deprecated classes in ojdbc14.jar (those are Clob and Blob classes) and some troubles with Oracle Types definitions, so, we change the ojdbc14.jar driver to a 9 version, but we can't test it 'cause our develop app is on client stage, so, i need to know if i can use 9 drivers under 8i database without any kind of trouble
Thanks!!!

Primarily, bug fixes. The release notes should detail exactly which bugs were fixed.

  • Can I use oracle9i to deploy the BC4J without using oracle9ias

I found many components in oralce 9i similar to those, for instance apache server, in oralce9i applcation server
I want to know what defference is between oralce 9i and oralce9i applcation server

Nope. You need the Oracle9iAS J2EE container (OC4J) to deploy BC4J/J2EE applications.
This is a part of 9iAS. 9i is now the brand name for all products to identify a particular version e.g. 9i Database, 9i Appliaction Servers, 9i JDeveloper, etc.

  • Can I use Struts with Oracle9i AS?

I am not using Tomcat, so I am wondering can I use Struts with Oracle9i AS instead of Tomcat?
    Thanks for your help!

Struts can be used with any J2EE compliant app server. It's not Tomcat specific in any way. You just have to deploy it properly.

  • How can I use OCCI for oracle8.1.6?

my database is oralce8.1.6 for solaris8.
I want to develop database application by OCCI .
    But only oracle9i has OCCI.
    How can I do?
Where can I get OCCI ,and how can I use it for oralce8.1.6?
    thank you very much!!

OCI is available for all versions of Oracle including Oracle
7/8/8i etc. However it is not installed by default with these
versions. I am assuming that the default 9i installation
includes OCI. You should be able to install OCI for other
versions through one of the development platforms e.g. ProC/C++
    etc.

  • In which trigger can i use go_item() in oracle forms 6i?

    Hi,
        I have a problem with go_item.
    I tried executing go_item() in triggers like key_next_item, pre_text_item, post_text_item & when_validate_item.
But none of them seemed to be working.
    I searched for other possibilities in the site, where i found a solution of using trigger ' when_timer_expired ' with ' when_validate_item ' ,
but when i tried to create trigger, i did not find that trigger (when_timer_expired)  in the list at all.
I'm using oracle form builder 6i.
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production.
A trigger with go_item() must be created when tab is pressed.
In which trigger can i use go_item() ??
    Thank You.

    from help:
    Restricted Built-in Subprograms
Restricted Built-ins affect navigation in your form, either external screen navigation, or internal navigation. You can call these Built-ins only from triggers while no internal navigation is occurring.
Restricted Built-ins cannot be called from the Pre and Post triggers, which fire when Oracle Forms is navigating from object to another.
Restricted Built-ins can be called from the When triggers that are specific to interface items, such as When-Button-Pressed or When-Checkbox-Changed. Restricted Built-ins can also be called from any of the When-New-"object"-Instance triggers and from key triggers.
Unrestricted Built-ins do not affect logical or physical navigation and can be called from any trigger.
The Built-in descriptions include a heading, Built-In Type, that indicates if the Built-in is restricted or unrestricted.

    Regards
    Raja

The user that owns the cubes and dimensions must have the role OLAP_USER so that the OLAP API can view the required information which is actually stored in a series of tables owned by the user OLAPSYS. This schema is usually referred to as the CWM catalog. I think the OLAP documentation explains the views that are part of this schema.
At risk of being rude - why are you creating a relational model? It is much easier to store your model within an 10g R2 Analytic Workspace. This is much more performant and provides greater functionality compared to ROLAP solution.
Watch out for Enterprise Manager (OEM) when deleting cubes and dimensions. I have had some very bad experiences with OEM not removing all the elements of a dimension or cube from the CWM catalog, even though the nodes in the OEM navigator tree do not show any dimensions or cubes.
Then when you try to connect to an OLAP schema with BI Beans you got some very serious java exception errors relating to corrupt metadata. At this point you have to use the OLAP PL/SQL packages to clean up the CWM catalog to remove all the invalid dimensions and cubes. It is not that difficult to do just takes a bit of time.
    Hope this helps

  • How to use Oracle9i's JVM instead

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out the steps involved to using Oracle9i's internal JVM as opposed to the JDK1.4 I downloaded from Sun. The Sun JDK resides in /usr/local/java and this is where I set the JAVA_HOME variable to. Is it as simple as updating this env variable to point to Oracle9i's JVM instead?
    Thanks.

    Rick,
OracleJVM is the name of the embedded Java VM in the database kernel. It is not a JDK that you can use through environment variables. However, Oracle does ship a JRE as part of it's database ditribution, for client-side tools/utilities needs.
you can visit the OTN page for more details on OracleJVM

  • Can u access Oracle9i Reports objects from Java Code?

    Hi,
How can you access Oracle9i Reports (Rel 2) objects like Body, DataSource, Groups etc from Java Code?
    What are the available APIs?
I went thru the APIs at http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/Javadocs/oracle/reports/plugin/definition/package-summary.html
However various constructors stated in these APIs are using classes from "oracle.reports.definition" package which are difficult for me to locate.
For eg. Report constructor is using oracle.reports.definition.RWReport and there is no API documentation available for RWReport class.
Please suggest me the site for the above APIs or the method to get a reference to "Report" instance.
    Thanks
    Rakesh.

Thanks Tugdual for your quick reply.
Thats exactly what I am trying to do. I want to develop a utility which can have a subset of Report Developer's functionality.
Currently using Reports Developer & Report Wizard, I can create a report by providing SQL statement and few parameters (like Report Style, Calculated Fields, Template file etc). I want to put all these parameters in a XML file and run my java utility (based on the APIs which I am looking for) which will use these XML parameter file and generate a '.rdf' file.
Also, could you please suggest me the site for oracle.reports.definition package API or the way to get a reference to oracle.reports.plugin.definition.Report instance.
    Thanks,
    Rakesh

  • HELP Using Oracle9i database to consume external Web Service

    Hi all,
I am trying to make use Oracle9i db to call an external .Net Web Service from a JAva Stored Procedure.
I created the .Net Web Service and use JDeveloper 9.0.3.4Build(1247) to create the Client Stub Java class(ie: serviceClientStub.java).
Following the instruction from the article"Calling External Web Service from Java Stored Procedure”, http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/jsp/samples/wsclient/Readme.html, I connected to the database using SQL Navigator4.3 tried to load the required jar files(with Create public synonym and Resolve option checked) into Oracle9i database(ver 9.2.0.1.0). They are loaded in the following order:
    [OC4J_HOME]/soap/lib/soap.jar
    [OC4J_HOME]/lib/dms.jar
    [OC4J_HOME]/jlib/javax-ssl-1_1.jar
    [ORACLE_HOME]/lib/servlet.jar
    [OC4J_HOME]/jdk/jre/lib/ext/mail.jar
Where [OC4J_HOME] refers to Oc4j_extended that I downloaded from Oracle website.
    [ORACLE_HOME] refers to oracle/ora90
However, most of the java classes failed to compiled. When I loaded the Client Stub class, it failed to compile as well.
This is the error message that I got:
ORA-29521: referenced name javax/mail/Flags could not be found
ORA-29521: referenced name javax/mail/MessageException could not be found
ORA-29521: referenced name javax/mail/MethodNotSupportedException could not be found
Any ideas how to resolve these issues?
Also, besides using the Client Soap stack library(above method), is there another way to be able to load the Client Stub class in the database, have it compiled successfully?
Your assistance will be highly appreciated!

As far as I can see, you're at least missing activation.jar. Without this library you won't be able to successfully load the mail.jar library.

  • Can I download Oracle9i for free

    Hi,
When I was searching through google for free database downloads, I come accross the following url :
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html
where I can see all oracle products, can I download Oracle9i for free, so that I don't face problem with regarding to payment etc, in future. Wherein I am using JBoss developing ejbs, now planning to go for database, something which is open source. Yeah I come accrosss MySQL, but when I can download Oracle9i for free, no need to think of MySQL., please guide me.
    Regards
    Shiva.

Yes, you can download Oracle9i database at the very bottom of the page you have quoted. The license allows you to use it for development purposes only and you would license the product when you go to a production environment. You will see the full terms of the license when you go to download it.

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.
