Can imovie projects be shared using lion server

Want to store iMovie projects and events on HDD (mybook studio edition) and work on projects from multiple macs. The HDD is connected to a time capsule and currently iMovie cannot see it.

"iMovie 6 still works on OS X Mountain Lion without any problem"
Hooray. Glad it will work.
Thanks for the rapid reply.

  • Use Lion Server to set up security in Web Sharing

Can I use Lion Server to set up security in Web Sharing?
I want a password prompt to appear when someone comes to look at my Web Sharing files.
I have tried to do this manually in Snow Leopard and Lion, and am considering buying Lion Server just for this one purpose.
Does the admin GUI in Lion Server have an option that allows you to set up a password prompt for folks that look at my Web Sharing files?
    THanks.
    mac

    Miracles do happen.
Because I just bought Lion Server, I was able to get a guy from the Apple Server support group on the phone, for a long time, and he helped me set this up using the Server app and the Server Admin app.
Now I have a password prompt on my Web Sharing files.
It's an incredible relief to have this working.
    Thanks for the responses.

  • Can I create my own iDisk spaces using Lion Server?

Using Lion Server, can I create a space that would be like iDisk for my users to save and access documents and files remotely? Also to make that shared between users? Basically make my own cloud space.

SSL Certificate is based on your domain, not the granularity of folders.  If you have a server named idisk.yourdomain.com and all users will access the same domain, than you need a cert for idisk.yourdomain.com.  If you plan to do multiple hosts within the same domain, such as idisk.yourdomain.com and clouddrive.yourdomain.com then look to get a wildcard cert.  If you are doing multiple domains, such as idisk.yourdomain.com and clouddisk.otherdomain.com then you need multiple certs.  One per domain.
As for access control, that is handled through folder structure and permissions.  Make two folders.  AllAccess and LimitedAcces.  You can make a group that contails users A, B, and C and make them part of a group.  That group can access the AllAccess folder.  Then make another group containing users A & B and then grant them access to the LimitedAccess folder.

  • How can I reset my password via Lion Server web front-end?

I'm trying to enable my users to be able to change their passwords from the default value I've given them. This can be done from the user's profile page but when with the new Lion Server web interface, I select the "Change Password" at the bottom of the page and I get the following result:
    Changing passwords is turned off.
You can turn it on by using the Server app on the server.
I'm assuming I cannot use the Server app on my client computer (a MacBook Pro) so I use the Server app on the server.  I cannot find out how to enable this feature.  I've been all over the Lion Server help documentation but can't find out how.
I've selected my server in the Hardware section on the left-hand side of the Server app and gone to the Settings tab and checked the "Enable screen sharing and remote management" box but I still get the message above.
    Thanks in advance...

You will have to enabled "Profile Manager" tab.
Inside this tab, enable also the "Device Management", which will start a network directory.
This make sense for a centralized user mgmt.
But a bit not user-friendly enough.
    After setting above two,
go back to the "Web" tab, and click the pencil to see the grayed-out activated.

  • Can iMovie projects be opened in Final Cut Pro?

I've been searching all over the internet and the forums here and I cannot find an answer to this question. I know that at one time, iMovie projects could be opened by Final Cut Pro. Is this still the case? If not, does anyone know what versions are compatible with each other?
I'm asking because I may be starting a documentary project soon where the director has already done some preliminary editing in iMovie (that's all she knows how to use). I'll need to transfer the project somehow into FCP to edit the project, and I just want to know how big of a headache this will be.
Any help on the subject would be majorly appreciated!

You can definitely use iMovie 08 to do a preliminary rough cut, then move the project into FCpro, and you don't need FCExpress to do it. Check out this tutorial (costs about $8) for more details, (altho most of the show is devoted to how to use iMovie):
iMovie Rough Cutting for Final Cut Pro
    http://www.rippletraining.com/imovierough_cutting_for_final_cutpro.html
    The blurb says:
"As a video professional you may think iMovie is only a tool for creating home movies, but it can be so much more! In this tutorial, we'll show you how anyone with a Mac and iMovie can generate frame-accurate cut lists that can be imported into Final Cut Pro. You'll even learn how to use iMovie in less than 7 minutes, which speaks to the incredible user-friendliness of the application.
This tutorial is available through iTunes.
In this tutorial you will learn how to:
    Defining the Problem
    iMovie Jumpstart
    Importing Footage into iMovie
    Changing the Number of Thumbnails
    Skimming a Filmstrip
    Naming a Project
Making Selections in the Events Browser
    Adding Selections to a Project
    Non-Linear Editing in iMovie
    Trimming a Shot
    Using the E Shortcut
Sharing the Project with Final Cut Pro
Importing the XML File into FCP
XML Dialogue - What it Means
    Reconnecting to Media"
I've always used iMovie (HD and earlier) for rough cutting and initial importing, then switched to FC (first Express, then Studio 2) for color correction, titles, animation, and video layers. It was a bit of a hassle before iMovie 08; had to dig into the hidden files in the iMovie project to find the actual clips, or save out a dv version. Now you simply need the Final Cut XML file and access to the original clips.
I have noticed that I need to check the "Use flattened audio from thumbnail movies" box in the iMovie sharing dialog, or else the audio needs to be rendered in FC, which, oddly, the tutorial above doesn't mention, or do. It may be that I need to do that because I use iMovie to import the footage in the first place, while the tutorial assumes you've got the clips already on a drive somewhere, and that you're working with files that other folks created elsewhere.
I also check the Reconnect to Media files box in the FC import XML dialog, which the tutorial doesn't do (they reconnect to the media files manually after the XML import; they're visible inside the iMovie project when you use FC's Reconnect Media command). But since I imported the files on the same computer that I edit on, I simply check the box.
According to David Pogue's Missing Manual for iMovie 08, you can also export out a QuickTime file using Apple Intermediate Codec, and then open this file in "any Apple video editing software," such as iMovie HD, and presumably FC. But that means a huge file, and duplicating the media. If you choose this route, be sure to check the size settings in the QUICKTIME export settings dialog, and set the audio to 48000k.
    HTH!

  • Use Lion server to share video?

Since the gallery part of dot mac is gone, how can I share family videos?

  • How do I set up file sharing in Lion Server to work like file sharing in Lion Client?

I've just installed Lion Server on my home iMac to enable remote access via VPN to my home network.
When the iMac was running Lion Client (before the upgrade to server), and when File Sharing was enabled on the iMac; when other Macs on the LAN connected to the iMac via AFP, they were always able to connect to (share) any mounted external volumes (external USB or FireWire drives connected to the iMac). e.g.
Now that I've upgraded to Lion Server, when other Macs on the LAN connected to the iMac via AFP they are only able to connect to (share) the sharepoints listed in the File Sharing pane of Server.app. e.g.
Is there any way to set up File Sharing in Lion Server so that it works the same way as it does in Lion Client with respect to mounted external volumes? i.e. they are automatically shared? I know I can add each volume manually to File Sharing in Server.app but this gets tedious.
    Many thanks!

I normally have a Firewall enabled. I recently had to do an erase and install of Lion, followed by a one-by-one re-install of all of my software. One of the first things I did was to set up all of my System Preferences the way I like them; Turning the Firewall on was one of them. Later I noticed it was off and turned it on again. I had already set up sharing and was surprised to see the problem when I turned it back on.
As to why do I think it needs to be on. It is another part of my security layer.

  • Publish an iWeb site using Lion Server

Does any one know how to publish an iWeb site using Lion Server.
I've been getting failures every time I try to publish using ftp server choise.
    HELP!!!

I solved this by turning off passive mode. I was using iWeb and Rapid Weaver for creating websites and had the same problem. Now they both work fine on the transfer. Hope this helps.

  • Can I use Lion server to set-up a WPA2 wireless network in place of an AEBS?

I'm contemplating replacing my Airport Extreme Base Station with my Core i5 Mac mini as the wireless network server, because this will get rid of a "box" (that I can sell!) and reduce power consumption, since my iMac is on all the time as my iTunes media source anyway. At present my AEBS creates a WPA2 LAN network connected in bridge mode to my Billion modem/router, so DHCP serving is performed by the Billion router. I could replace the AEBS with the Mac mini running Lion simply by using internet sharing, but this has low security (WEP) and I understand there are often connection problems when clients awake from sleep. (Furthermore, my Airport Extreme at the back of the house probably wouldn't connect to that WEP network?)
So, I wonder.... If I upgraded to Lion Server (only $49), can I set-up the Mac mini as the WPA2 network host in place of the AEBS? My mini is right next to the AEBS anyway, so it's in a suitable position to distribute the radio signal. As I understand it, the Lion Server software would need to allow the Mac mini to connect to the Billion router via ethernet in bridge mode - just like the AEBs, but I can't find any info that tells me whether this is possible.
Does anyone know if what I want to do is possible? A simple solution may be to turn off the DHCP server functions of my Billion router, letting Lion Server become the DHCP server, but I don't think that's possible. I also don't want to replace the Billion with a simple modem because my Billion router provides VoIP for my home phone (and has done so reliably since 2005).
Of course, if it's all too hard, I'll leave things as they are, because I don't have any need for the other Server functions of Lion Server.
    thanks

I don't know. I'm also looking for the same function because I want to
make my iMac running Lion the router and the firewall of my personnal
wireless network. The key advantage will be to have the firewall, its rules
and its logging on the same server.
What I already know is that turning the Internet sharing on turns a
MacOS X Lion into a DHCP server on the wireless side.

  • Can I use Lion server to push updates to my mac clients

    Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if I can run Lion server and use my clients (OS X ranging from 10.5 to 10.7) to pull updates from this server instead from Apple. Is it easy to setup Mac Update server?
    Thanks,

There is a simple way for unmanaged clients.
To point an unmanaged client to your update server, enter the following command in terminal:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://<your_server>:8088/index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
(replace <your_server> with the dns name of your update server.  If the unmanaged client runs snowleopard or leopard, adjust the url accordingly. For snowleopard clients, remove the "lion-" part. For leopard clients, remove the "lion-snowleopard-" part

  • Server App can't connect to a Mountain Lion server

    Hi,
I installed OS X Mountain Lion Server (2.2.1) on a 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.4. I am able to access all the options using the Server.app on the Mini. Then I installed the Server.app (2.2.1) on a 2010 MacBook Pro running 10.8.4. On trying to configure the Server options on the Mac Mini from the MacBook Pro by providing the correct Mac Mini admin credentials, the password is not validated correctly. This happens when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
I am certain that the username / password provided is correct, since using the same credentials I can successfully remote into the Mac Mini using Apple Remote Desktop (3.6.1) when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
My situation supersedes the resolution provided in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3960?locale=en_US. Note that the command sudo launchctl list | grep -q com.apple.servermgrd && echo loaded || echo not loaded returns loaded on the Mac Mini.
    Please help!

I am having exactly the same setup and exactly the same problem - nevertheless I would like to add some more information in order to hopefully find / get help from other readers in here.
I am using DynDNS - not a dedicated domain. I do not utilize an AirPort Extreme for port forwarding and else. All the necessary port forwardings were triple checked!
    - First of all "Apple Remote Desktop" is able to connect to my server over the internet (screen sharing) and locally in my LAN. No troubles here.
    - My iOS devices can connect using various VNC clients without any troubles.
    - VNC connections started within Safari (MacBook Pro) do work very well, too.
    - All kinds of WebDAV connections are working like a charme.
    - When connecting with "Server.app" from my MacBook Pro it asks if I would like to trust the self-signed certificate before I can enter name and password. After trusting that certificate it doesn't matter which account information I am entering: none is accepted. It does not make any difference if I am using a local user account or a user network account (both configured as being allowed to administer that server). "Server.app" does not accept any information provided.
I've been following the KB advice, too that c xavier mentioned. "servermgrd" is loaded!
For some odd yet unknown reason neither WAN nor LAN FTP login does work, too. It just gives me a time out, as already mentioned WebDAV is working fine.
Sorry I could not help You, c xavier! I just thought that some additional information could help...

  • How can i connect windows(laptop) to lion server?

    Hi..
We in our company use mac's as clients. We use Mac OSx 10.7 lion server. We have a lenovo laptop for general purpose. Now can we connect that laptop in network. So that can we remotely use mac screen sharing.

Are you asking how to connect to FileSharing from the PC ?
Or are you asking about screensharing?
    On Server
If file sharing, edit the SharePoint and make sure that
Windows File Sharing (SMB) is enabled
    On the PC:
    Map a network drive
    \\10.0.0.1\Share
(your IP and the share name)
Make sure you check the box to use another account or user/password
It will then ask you to enter a password.
In general, the above should work.
There are some cases where it requires a few other tricks.
    Good Luck

  • OSStatus 5 when trying to use Lion Server as time machine

I've set two volumes on hard disk 2 of the mac mini server with snow leopard server (now running lion server).
When I point my new MacBook Air at the time machine the Lion Server is serving which is simply displayed as Time Machine on server1.voigtstr.com, I authenticate (both server and laptop share the same username and password) and then I get
Time Machine can't access the backup disk "Time Machine"
The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 5.)
What needs to change at either the server or client side?
thoughts so far were that the time machine volume was case sensitive and the laptop was not, so I reformatted the server volume to be not case sensitive.
    Any other thoughts?
When I choose "Do Not Backup" the Time Machine system prefs applet is left in a state of "Preparing Disk".  Is that likely to finish in multiple hours? Or is it just in a hung state?
    Cheers
    Voigtstr!

    I had the same problem.
Time machine on my server, updated from Lion to Mountain Lion.
    Fixed it by:
(To be completely safe, always start by backing up to a extra external hard drive, if you can.)
On the Machine that is your Server
I went to (Server>Services>Time Machine). My Time Mahine backup folder was there.
Open a Finder window and follow the path to your backup folder
When I checked on the backup drive folder it didn't exist.
In Finder use "New folder" and recreate the directory folder as shown in (Server>Services>Time Machine) eg. Volumes/TM folder/Shared Items/Backups.
Go to the Server>Services>File Sharing. Check that the Master folder (ie. TM folder)you are using for your time machine is shared. Double click on it and check that the account you use to connect to the server has "Read & Write" access.
Open the Server Panel, under Services >go to "Time Machine" and turn off the Time Machine. (Server>Services>Time Machine)
Select the current folder and remove "-" the folder currently showing.
Then add "+" the newly recreated folder
    Go back to Server>Services>Time Machine
Then turn on the Time Machine
Then try to connect your macbook to the Time Machine server again
If you get to step 3 and find the folder is there then just skip step 4 and do the rest to reset it.
It may not connect your machine to it's previous TM folder so before continuing on to step 5, mark that by ctrl+click>Label> any colour. You can then go back later when you have a couple of up to date backups in the new folder and delete the old on for more space.

  • Why can't I uninstall the Mountain Lion Server?

    Background
My windows laptop failed and my iMAC's hard drive was recalled recently.  During this time I decided to buy a MacBook Pro and migrate everthing from my Windows laptop.  I also bought Airport Extreme.  As I got recently unemployed, I wanted to create a private network accessible from my MacBrook and MacBook Air (until I could afford to buy the Mac Mini Server).  So I downloaded the Lion Server from the App Store using my MacBook Pro (I didn't realize it would install automatically).  So, I redownloaded from my iMac and went through the configuration.
    Issues
I was unable to log in using my existing user accounts from the MacBook/Air.  I turned on the screen sharing (as I had lots of applications and documents on the iMac).  But my firewall reported access to screen sharing service, web service etc from external IP addresses.  iMac frequently went into freeze modes (no response to mouse/keyboard) and sometimes blank screen (monitor off).  So I turned off screen sharing.
I struggled with finding a way to make the local accounts into network accounts.  I even tried adding them to a Network Group.  I was unsucessful in being authenticated by the iMac server.  The login window always showed "... unavailable ..".  I went through and tried all suggestions posted in this site. Nothing seemed to work.
I decided to unistall the Server and do a fresh install.  Even here there were no clear documentation/instructions with the server app.  According to suggestions here and as per this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4827 article, I removed the turned off all services, deleted the Server.app and also the /Library/Server folder.  Rebooted.  The iTunes store's purchased page still shows the Server as Installed.  I did the same on the MBP and it shows up asInstall.
I don't see any of the server applications in the Activity Monitor.  But my firewall reported incoming requests to Kerberos, Port 464, 5000, 625, 749, and Program Linking.
Airport Extreme is letting in external requests.  I did not use public domain for my server nor any dynamic dns service.
    Questions
How do I remove completely the Server app from my iMac?
The first time I installed the server, I used it to control the Airport Extreme.  So how do I reset the Airport Extreme to factory settings (assuming Apple's marketing literature is correct) so that it acts as a barrier between the wild, wild internet and my home network?
Is there better control of the Airport Extreme base station? Like MAC filtering?
How do you elevate existing users on iMac to the level of network users?  I want any of my family members to be able to use the MBP or MBA using their own account and see their documents and settings.
    Recommendations Solicited
I cannot add a Mac Pro/Mac Mini Server at this point (unless Apple comes out payment plans for the consumers).  That is why I purchased the MBP/MBA from BestBuy.  So need the best way to use my existing resources to create a small home network for school, development, testing etc.

I have captured the install log.  Right now I don't have the Sever.app and related files in the system.  But log shows the server is running or installed today.  I have seen MiniLauncher tag (don't know what it is).  And if the server is running, it is not appearing in the Activity log.
