Can my imovie project be edited by someone else if I want them to?

I don't see any way to share an editable project with someone else.
Is this a deliberate structure Apple set up?
I'd like to be able to pass my file over to someone else to
work on technical stuff while I concentrate on content.
How can I do that?
This application doesn't seem to have any means of
exporting a collect of all the elements off my root directory.
thanks,
-Doug

yepp, it is..
'til vers 6 of iMovie, all content/elements as clips, music, narration, titles, were stored in some single 'solid' package file, you could easiely transfer onto other Macs..
since vers7 (aka iM08), Project and Events/'Clips' are located on diff. directories.. when copying those files, usually, the 'connection' between Project discription and related clips gets lost.
iM as any other iLife app isn't meant for 'multi user' usage..

  • PDF that can be sent to be edited by someone else?

I have an ebook that I want a professional editor to edit and I do not know how to create this possibility and send it to her. I also need to know how to turn it back so no one can edit it after it is complete. Thank you.

Send the original file and not the PDF. Have them do the editing and return the file to you THEN PDF it. You can add security to disallow editing after that using Acrobat.

  • Best way to export iMovie project for editing

I am creating an iMovie project in iMovie 09 with a friend. I have part of the movie and he has the other part (basically I have put together a lot of the video and some transitions, and he is going to put in some music he created and add a couple of other cool things). I have created my part of the movie and I would like to send the project to him so that he can add his part to finish the movie. I am not sure what the best method is to save my iMovie project so that I can sent it to him. I don't want to export it to something he can't work with on his end.
I am thinking that if I save the project as a QuickTime movie it will allow him to open open the file in iMovie and then he can add his stuff. I was also thinking about ways of exporting to mp4 format as I know this is a format that iMovie likes, and he could open this up in iMovie. I wasn't sure, though, how to make sure I save the movie project as a mp4.
Do you all have any thoughts or suggestions on this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I don't think I have the answer, but if you don't mind I'm going to drop into your discussion because I have a similar issue and am interested in any solution someone may give you. I have a couple of iMovie project files because, like you, I have two people working seperately, and I just want to combine them as a single project.
I was able to move both projects to one computer by moving the iMovie projects to an external hard drive and then opening them both up from the same computer. That solution probably doesn't solve your issue, though.

  • Simple Question: How long can my iMovie project be?

I've got a movie project in iMovie '11 (9.0.2) that is a bit over 2.5 hours and I get an error when trying to export it ("Unable to prepare project for publishing..... Project is too long.) Unfortunately the error doesn't come up until AFTER it's gone through the motions...5 to 6 hours later! This seems crazy to me since I would think people burning to DL DVD would have projects as long or longer. I'm not going to iDVD with it so I don't need it to be under 2 hours for a SL DVD.
I have 70+GB of space available on my HD and let it run overnight several times. Haven't tried exporting to Quicktime out of it since it says it's going to take 22 hours to process!
I can split it in half if necessary, but does anyone know an official project length limit or other workaround? THANKS!

Yes, your movie is too long. Divide it up into 5 30 minute movies. You can do this by selecting your movie in the Project Library View, and clicking FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT 5 times. Then for project 1, delete everything but the first 30 minutes. For project 2, delete everything but the 2nd 30 minutes, etc. If 30 minutes is still too long, you can shorten it again with this method.
If you need to make a theatrical length movie (e.g. 2 1/2 hours), I suggest Final Cut Pro X. It will make movies this long.
Final Cut Pro X can import iMovie Projects, so if you want, you can create your movie in Final Cut Pro X.
The reason iMovie is not the right tool for you is that it was designed for amateur home movies. Technically, iMovie will render the entire movie in a single pass. This means that the longer your movie, the more powerful computer, memory, and disks you will need, but ultimately there is a limit to what can be accomplished in a single pass. However, Final Cut Pro X can do multiple renders. It will render as you go, so that at the end, when you make your 2.5 hour movie, it can just string together sequences which have already been rendered.

Can I share my iCloud Photostream with someone else with a different Apple ID? How?

    Yeah no kidding.
I have a big paid up MobileMe account with tons of gallery stuff - this will all go away for me in July, and I'll miss it - it took no learning to use, and it was built into everything - just intuitive to post to a gallery password protect it, and send a link to a friend.  Click click done!
It bothers me a lot when features I really enjoy and use are pulled in these half baked new apps and services.
iMovie used to be quite good, but the new one is very restrictive - it's a step backwards in some ways.
MobileMe was fine, but iCloud takes away the Gallery???? - another step backward.
We use some iPhones at work for shooting some videos and technical engineering photo's, and while it's pretty cool that the iPhone photo's get put on the photostream of "Jason's iMac", I don't have instant access, and I would really like to be able to do that. If it could be done, then I can stay at home and work sometimes and I can get the photo's automagically.
    Apple - please fix this.

Would have been easier if you did this before creating the slides (Preferences, Defaults).
    For existing slides:
    Activate filmstrip
Use CTRL-A to select all slides
In Properties Panel change time to 5 secs

  • Can an iMovie project be restored once it's missing?

I've seen a bunch of discussions along these lines, but sadly no solid answers.
I have an iMovie project that I've put probably 35 hours into. A very complicated piece with clips, music, pictures, lots of stuff. I had experienced a few recent iMovie crashes, but the project was always still there upon restarting.
But then last night when I quit the application - simply by command-Q'ing - when I started it up again the project was no longer in my project library. I can see the file in my iMovie Projects folder, but double clicking on it does not open it. The file size also seems too small compared to other iMovie project files, but its modification date seems accurate.
I've deleted my iMovie preferences file as referenced in other similar questions. This didn't help. I have not updated to the new OS or updated iMovie yet; I was actually waiting until my big project was finished just in case iMovie would lose any audio files, etc., in the transition.
I've restarted, shut down, copied and renamed the file, tried to open the file on a different iMac - all with failed results. I was not running Time Machine. I'm starting to accept the inevitable, but it's pretty frustrating when you can see the file there, exactly where it's supposed to be, but it refuses to work.
If anyone can suggest how to restore or otherwise find/fix this file, I'd love to hear it.
    Thanks.

Use Share to QuickTime. Set the format to Sound to AIFF. Take it to iTunes. If you have iTunes set to import using MP3 you can use the Advanced menu to convert the AIFF to MP3.

  • How can I view my iCloud contacts from someone else's iPhone? I don't want to change their phone settings.

Yesterday I ran into a problem that was eye opening to say the least. I could not not access my contacts in order to find a friend's phone number. No one remembers phone numbers any more. God knows I don't.
I was on a jetski and it broke down. I was stranded at a dock miles away. I needed to contact my friend to tell him (a) I'm ok, (b) where I was, (c) to bring a tow. Of course I had no phone on me because it would have gotten soaked.
People were kind enough on the dock to let me use their smart phones to attempt to retreive the phone number and call for help. But I quickly discovered that it is impossible.
On an iPhone, I tried to use their Safari browser to go to www.icloud.com. When you do that, it simply redirects you to the apps. But it isn't my phone, and their apps are logged in to the owner's accounts. I wasn't about to update the settings in a stranger's phone.
One guy let me try his iPad with Cellular. Same problem as the iphones. It would not let me use www.icloud.com. It insisted that I use the native iOS apps.
On an Android, www.icloud.com would simply refuse to work. It would say it was not supported.
The question I have is: How can I view my contacts from someone else's smart phone in an emergency situation?
Second question: Why can't I use www.icloud.com on a smart phone's web browser like I can on regular computer?
I got lucky. I happened to know my mom's home number. Many hours later she was home and I was able to use a phone to call her. She brought up www.icloud.com on her home computer, logged on as me, and read me the phone number I was seeking. But what are the chances of being able to call a trusted person who has access to a computer to do this for you?

Without "pretending" to be yourself on the other phone (change settings) there's nothing else you can do.
iOS devices are meant to be single user and can't view iCloud.com the same way a Mac or PC can do.
You need to find a desktop or laptop machine (Mac or PC) to log in at iCloud.

Hello Jerry and welcome to the Community.
    1. First posting rule: Never use someone else's thread even if you think you have exactly the same issue. You don't.
    2. No two issues are ever identical. There are too many variables. ALWAYS start your own topic.
    3.  Not advisable and not recommended.
    4. A much better way to achieve your objective is to purchase a Skype Gift Card. Details here:   https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12197/what-is-a-skype-gift-card-and-where-can-i-buy-one?frompage=...

    Critters222-
I assume Netspace is your Internet provider.  They may have their mail server set up to only work when you are accessing the server locally from their domain.  I suggest you contact Netspace and ask them what you need to do to send E-Mail to them from other domains.
Have you been able to send E-Mail from other places?  If so, there might be a firewall problem in Optusnet.  In that case, they may be best able to advise you.

  • Can I create an iTunes account for someone else?

I just bought an ipod for my parents, who are not exactly techno-savy. I was wondering if it would be possible to create an iTunes account on my computer, get their music collection started, and then mail the ipod to them with all the account info so they can just log in and go. Is this possible?

    Yes.

  • Can I send an iphoto book to someone else's computer?

Greetings! I am so frustrated! I have created an iphoto book for a student and purchased copies of the book online. No problem. The problem, now, however, is that he would like the techno version of his book. Makes sense to me. Perhaps he'd like to modify it, or whatever. But I cannot figure out how to send it to him. The only thing I can do is purchase it (which I've already done). Any help with this would be oh so gratefully received.
    Wendy

Well, thanks so much all of you!  I'm so computer illiterate that I guess I'll need to find an in-person  mac expert to help, if help is to be had. After all of your advice, I  have tried 'printing' as a pdf. What I actually tried was emailing as a  pdf. No go. File WAY too big. I tried 'printing' as a pdf and saving to a  flash drive. I THOUGHT that would maybe work, but it didn't.
This  is a tricky one since my student is international. We did the book in  southern Africa, he is currently living in the States, and I am  currently living in Canada. On my mac, which is where the book is in  iphoto, I can ONLY buy the book if I send it to a Canadian address. I  DID buy the book--several copies thereof--and had it sent to my Canadian  address and distributed it from there. No, however, this student would  like access to the iphoto file. Wow! I had no idea this would end up  being so difficult. Next time I create such a photo book I will try to  find another way to do it that is more flexible. I haven't tried  Shutterfly, etc...
But, BOTTOM LINE, thank you so much to all of you who tried to help me out!
    Cheers, Wendy
