Can netctl configure Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) interface?

Having sorted out the (so I thought) most difficult part of setting up Bluetooth PAN networking, I am at the stage of being able to make a PAN connection from an Android phone to my Arch machine, which causes a new interface "bnep0" to appear:
[root@alarm ~]# ip link show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP. mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/ether c8:a0:30:ae:19:26 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: pan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP mode DEFAULT group default
link/ether 00:19:45:44:16:33 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: bnep0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast master pan0 state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/ether 00:19:45:44:16:33 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
pan0 is a "skeleton" interface created using "brctl addbr", which is then used to provide an org.bluez.NetworkServer for PAN clients to connect to.
My question is: how can I configure the system (using a config file /etc/netctl/bnep0? or some other way?) so that bnep0 is automatically assigned a static IPv4 address when it comes up?
I have a working /etc/netctl/eth0 config. file that assigns a static IP address, gateway, nameserver etc. to eth0, and I've tried various modifications of that file as /etc/netctl/bnep0 (e.g. connection type "bridge" or "dummy" instead of "ethernet"), but without success so far.
thanks,
Mike

  • Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) Missing

According to many online sources, bluetooth PAN capability was added in OSX as of 10.4.9. Apparently, it comes in the form of a new port under "Network->Network Port Configurations". I'm told I should see a port called "Bluetooth PAN" in that screen. This is missing on my system and I have 10.4.10.
Does anyone have ideas as to how I can get this back?

Archive and Install, stopping the updates ith the 10.4.9 Combo, but I think it should be there in 10.4.10 and beyond, is on mine, and I have no Bluetooth Devives!
It can be a munged file or permissions that is stopping it. The files that CAN affect that are...
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
Try repairing permissions first, or better yet, get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.

  • Does Pixi's Bluetooth Support PAN (Personal Area Network)?

I was told that since Pixi doesn't have Wifi, which is needed for PocketMirror (for syncing Pixi w/ MS Outlook), that a PAN via Bluetooth would allow PocketMirror to connect between Pixi and my computer.  There is information out on the net that says that Pre supports PAN, and I'm not certain that info is valid.  Regardless, my interest is in the Pixi.  Anyone been able to set up PAN between Pixi and computer?

  • I enabled the guest network feature on my time capsule.  Can I configure my airport extremes guest network feature if I use this as a network extender using a "roaming" network?

I enabled the guest network feature on my TC.  Can I configure my airport extremes guest network feature if I use the extreme as a network extender connecting my Airport Extreme to my TC via ethernet cable?

Unfortunately no, since the AirPort Extreme should be configured in Bridge Mode if it is connecting to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection.
The Guest Network option cannot be enabled when the AirPort is configured in Bridge Mode.
Another way of saying the same thing is that the Guest Network cannot be "extended" either by using an Ethernet connection or wireless. It is only available from the Time Capsule "main" wireless router on your network, not any extending devices.

Trying to install a new time capsule. I get access to the time capsule via Finder and I am able to surf the web. What now?

  • Bluetooth Personal Area Networking

I am hoping the collective wisdom of the internet can solve this.
I am trying to establish a network link between my MacBook running OS X 10.5.5 and my PC running Windows XP with a Bluetooth dongle (2.0 +EDR).
I have tried establishing creating Bluetooth PAN on the Mac and getting the PC to connect to it, however the PC cannot discover a device that is PAN capable. (If I try and discover the device from the Bluetooth preferences on the PC, then it can discover it, however PAN on the PC still does not recognise it).
I have run Bluetooth Explorer on the Mac and it under Class Of Device (Local Device Information), it shows Networking as unselected. I can select it and close the Bluetooth Explorer and it retains settings when restarted, however I don't think this is reflected in the hardware as hitting "Refresh All From Hardware" resets this to unchecked.
Does ANYBODY have any experience at all in creating a network link between a Mac and PC using bluetooth? If anyone can point me to some documentation for either Mac, Windows, bluetooth in general or (hopefully) a recipe for doing what I want that would be great. Google has proven unsatisfactory so far.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

    Hi there @brutusnl,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are having problems with lines on your display and sometimes a blue screen. I am happy to help you with this.
From what you said you have tried you are using a newer driver from AMD. It may be part of the problem, only because the notebook manufacturers tend to customize the drivers for the hardware in the notebook. A notebook BIOS and the drivers designed for it, tend to have limits placed on some functions and others are disabled, to prevent damage to the hardware. A notebook being a more compact and enclosed environment is more susceptible to heat issues. You may want to try the original driver from the HP support site.  AMD Video Driver

  • Can't add bluetooth pan device in Osx Lion

I'm trying to share my wifi connection using bluetooth on Lion.
The advanced option in the bluetooth settings to share your internet connection is gone (was there in Snow Leopard).
That's why I manually want to add a Bluetooth Pan device so I can enable internet sharing. But there is only a Bluetooth DUN device available.
Is Pan support removed from Lion or is there a way to add the pan device using the terminal (ifconfig?)

Looks I'm a bit closer, but not there yet either.
In my Sharing preferences, under 'Share your connection from' I find the options: Wifi, Bluetooth DUN and Bluetooth PAN (and some other not related)
Under 'To computers using' I have the option 'Bluetooth PAN'
This was available since updating to Lion, so I didn't add any of those afterwards.
Since I'm on a wife hotel connection with my MBP (Lion) I selected Wifi for the incoming and Bluetooth PAN for the sharing towards my iPad.
Paired my iPad with the MBP, but still can't access internet on the iPad.
Not sure if it is related, but in Bluetooth preferences, when selecting my iPhone 3GS, under services appears: PAN Network Access Profile; this service doesn't appear when selecting my iPad
    And under Network preferences, when selecting Bluetooth PAN, the only device I can select is my iphone, not my ipad;
Would it be the PAN Network Access Profile that is missing on my iPad; anyone knows how I would get it on there?

  • Wireless Personal Area Network: UltraWide Band (UWB)

    Hello,
I noticed the new T61p offers lately UWB as an option.
can this be retrofitted to 'oldish' T61p models (6459CTO in my case, just 3 months old)?
    thanks,
    andrea
    T61p - 15.4" - T7700 - FX 570M 256MB - 4GB RAM - ST916023AS - 4965AGN - BT - FPR - 9 cell - Vista Ult. x86
    T21p - 14" - PIII 850MHz - S3 Savage/IX 8MB - 512MB RAM - 100GB 7200rpm - WinXP x86

Apparently the answer to that is 'yes': see this thread for details

But it certainly is not a noob job... Not that I am implying that you are a noob, just a caveat.
I really don't think it is worth it, just to eliminate one cable (from notebook to wireless hub).  Self contained wireless USB devices are not commonly available yet, so you have to plug everything into a wireless hub.

I suggest that you post in that location. The link is here:

  • Bluetooth PAN FaceTime

    Hi guys,
I've managed to set up a Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) from my MBP and connect my iPad Mini Retina to the internet (don't ask why, stupid restrictions at the university campus). It works great, I can connect the iPad to the internet and do my day to day stuff. However, when I try to launch a FaceTime or a FaceTime audio call from my iPad, it says prompts me to "Connect to a Wi-Fi network to use FaceTime [Audio]".
Is there a workaround for this? My device is technically connected to the internet, just not through the conventional Wi-Fi. It would be great it someone can offer me a solution. Thanks in advance!

The answer to your question is no. iPod touch doesn't support HFP 1.5 (ie. Hands-Free), as per the user manual. The following support article has a comparison chart for Bluetooth support on iOS devices. Although I haven't tried myself, you might want to try using a set of Apple earbuds with remote and mic. I'm pretty sure that setup will work.

  • What are these new network interfaces?

Recently I've noticed a few additions to the standard net interfaces (are they called interfaces or adapters?).
    Tertiary (en2)
    Quaternary (en3)
    IP over Firewire (fw0)
    IP over Firewire (fw1)

I'm not quite sure, but I believe the BSD network interfaces are en0, en1, etc.
Airport, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Firewire, etc. are Network Services. Network Utility's Info tab and the Network System Prefs should say the same thing.
What do you see if you open System Profiler and click on the Network>Locations? ie What do you get for the names of each of the Services? Again, they should match Network prefs/Network Utility Info.
To remove a network service, go to Network System Preferences; Select a network Service, and click the delete ( - ) button.
I don't think anybody has made it clear, yet, that those are not normal. I don't believe they were created by the OS. However, it could be corruption in the plist that is giving everything fits.

  • Personal area & personal subarea...

Can any one explain about Personal Area, and Personal Sub area,
i thought If XYZ is organizational unit, Bangalore is Personal Area and Electronic City is Personal sub area.
Please clarify me, and confirm whether my example is correct or not...

    Dear Vamsi,
    <b>Personnel area</b>
The personnel area is an organizational unit; according to a personnel administrative, time management and payroll organizational point of view, a personnel area represents a delimited enterprise area. The personnel area is only used in Personnel Administration and is unique within a client.
Personnel areas are sub-divided into personnel subareas. Organizational data and guidelines as how to assign it, are stored on a personnel area and personnel subarea level.  The rules and guidelines could be of a legal, pay scale and collective agreement, or internal nature.  A personnel area is assigned to a company code which has the financial accounting values that are relevant for the personnel area.  A pay scale area, a pay scale type and a public holiday calendar are precisely defined for a personnel subarea.
The personnel area in a software company can be subdivided into development, training and administration personnel subareas.
    <b>Personnel subarea</b>
The personnel subarea is only used in Personnel Administration. The groupings linked to the personnel subarea determine which entries from the subsequent screen are allowed for an employee of a particular company code/personnel area.
Groupings are used for validation of master and time data.  Groupings are also used to check the plausibility of data that you enter.
    Regards,
    Naveen.
