Can NOT automatically scan from 8580Cdw to Mac OS 1.8
Hi,
My previous Canon, ImageClass 4370dn, I was able to scan directly on my Mac by clicking the Start button in MF tools. However, with the 8580Cdw, the Start button doesn't automatically start the scanning; I have to go to 8580Cdw and press the OK button twice because the 8580Cdw is asking two questions, Scan to and color. For the life of me, I have not been able to get rid of this manual step. I have the 8580 connected via USB to my MacOS 1.8 but once I figure out how to get rid of this manual step, I will start using the scanning via network, ie, allow folks in the office to scan via the network.

I will be glad to assist you.
The new imageCLASS machines are designed so that you will need to select a scanning option at the machine. There is no way to set a default scan option on this machine. You will need to select [Remote Scanner] or [Computer]. This is to ensure that your device handles the scan project properly. Due to this, the ability to program a specific mode is not available.
Although an extra step to perform, a benefit of selecting the desired mode for a respective scan can ensure that a scanner miscommunication does not occur if it were programmed to a different mode.

Safari is part of OS X 10.7.5, and your downloads should be via > Software Update...
Can you provide some details on why you're trying to download Safari? Did Safari get deleteed from the dock or from the /Applications folder? Is Safari failing somehow?
There are ways to re-load Safari using the standard updates, if so. That usually involves re-applying the combo update kits, but I'd not start with that as a suggestion without knowing a little more about what's causing you to seek to re-download Safari...
And FWIW, and this may well be obvious to you, but — based solely on your phrasing, as I don't know how familiar you are with this stuff — recognize that sites claiming to offer {Safari or other web browsers, video codecs, flash players, system performance accellerators, anti-virus software, cache cleaners, games, whatever} can be distributing malware for OS X. Once the tool is downloaded and installed and authenticated, then the tool can do whatever it wants. Put another way, please don't try downloading Safari from anywhere. Please get Safari only from the Apple web site. -
I have transferred a load of files from my PC to my iMac using the migration assistant. The message on both machines say that the process was successful but I can not find the files on the mac. Any ideas?
When you use Migration Assitant it creates another user account and puts your files there. Please log out of your normal account and log into the new account. Had you use Setup Assistant when it asked if you were migrating that would not have occured. You have a couple of options, combine the two accounts (not recommended) or start over, use Setup Assistant and have everything in one user account. can not pair my itouch with my mac book pro version 10.6.6 .. it seems that maybe my itouch is having trouble connecting as my mac seems to pair, then waits for my itouch and it never works. please help!!
I am not certain this will fix your problem but I suggest you assign the printer a static IP address.
Using the printer's front panel, select Menu > Network > WLAN > TCP/IP > Boot method, and change it to "static". Provide a static IP address that is on your LAN's subnet.
For example, if you are using an AirPort Extreme, you might give it an IP address of 10.0.1.100. If you are using a Netgear or Linksys router that defaults to issuing 192.168.x.x addresses, you might give it an address of 192.168.1.100. That way, the printer will always "reside at the same address" on your network. If your router has the ability, you should reserve that address so that the router does not attempt to assign it to another DHCP device.
Then, go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, and delete your existing printer with the "–" (minus) button. Add it again, using the "+" (plus) button. In the window that appears, select the IP pane, and from the Protocol menu select "Line Printer Daemon (LPD)". In the Address field type the IP address you gave your printer.
If all goes well the "Pring Using" field will detect the printer at that address and automatically select the appropriate driver. You will see something similar to the following screenshot ("name" can be whatever you decide, and "location" is optional):
Click Add, then you can close System Preferences.
There are other possible reasons your printer is "not responding" which could include wireless interference from competing wireless networks, but try this "static IP" method first. It should mitigate the problem. -
TS3899 I still can not send email from my ipad but iPhone works on those accounts
I still can not send email from my .mac account or a .comcast.net from my ipad. I how 2 people so far that has brought to my attention. We have exchange accounts setup on the ipads for work. I compare the settings from iPad to iPhone from my view it appears identical. I am looking at an iPad 2 and a Mini.
I turned on and off the ipads and nothing really changed. The emails come into those accounts.
Any suggestions?

1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue. Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.

Can not be read from or written to
OK, so I've had my Gen 3 for several years, I recently restored it and formated it for my windows machine to transfer some files from my windows to my Mac.
Upon restoring it back and refortmatting it to Mac, I learned that it now gives me an error message when adding playlists that says:
"this ipod can not be read from, or written to"
any idea what that is all about?Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting document? It may be of some help: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

Can't play movie from gallery on mac
I can not play movies from my gallery on my macbook. These movies are imported from Canon A630 to iPhoto. In iPhoto I can play them well. All of them are published to my mobileme gallery using iPhoto. Then I open this gallery in Safari on my macbook to check if everything was published. I visited this page earlier and installed divx, xvid, recode raw and ensharpen codecs. Also I have Perian and Flip4mac installed codecs. So my main question is: why can't I play movies from gallery using safari if in the same time I can view them well from iPhoto?
Playing of movies published with iMovie works well. But this does not matter to me since I want videos to be published in events with photos. If iPhoto has functionality to publish videos so it must work! Also I must mention that videos published with iPhoto can be played without problems from my PC with safari+quick time for windows. But under my Mac none of Safari, Firefox and Camino can view videos from my gallery. So I think problem is in QuickTime.Anybody?????? Im using web premium CS5.5 it seems ludicrous that by default it lets every website play content on my computer but regards my own content as a security risk and wont let me rectify the problem!

Are you going to give us any additional clues as to what you are really asking here?
1) The "HT5409" in your subject title reference implies you are dealing with AVCHD content. If true, then how did you transfer them to your iPad and how did you transfer them from your iPad to your your MacBook Air platform? As the HT409 topic clearly stated, this can be very important. In addition, how are the files stored? For instance , have you extracted the MPEG-4 AVC content as transport streams or is the content still in the device recorded file form? Are you trying to edit the content or convert it to M4V, MP4, or MOV files directly?
2) The "can i convert movies from iPad to mac laptop" part of your subject title is confusing. Yes, AVCHD files can be converted to simpler MPEG-4 AVC content that is compatible with all current and most older Mac computers and Apple mobile devices in MOV, MP4, and/or M4V file formats. However, how you do this will depend on the current form of the data and the target settings you wish to employ to ensure compatibility with the various target device possibilities. Further, non-AVCHD content (e.g., HD iPad video recordings) can also be downconverted to simpler settings in a similar manner if needed or required if that is your questing.
3) Depending on your operating system, both AVCHD and MPEG-4 AVC content should already be compatible with QT X v10.2 and v10.3 players if properly transferred to your laptop from the recording device. And, even if improperly transferred, may still be converted to useable/compatible formats as long as the file itself has not been corrupted by your, as yet, unspecified workflow.
4) What does "will not play on my mac air laptop with quicktime installed" mean here? Are you trying to play an AVCHD movie in the QT 7 player or one of the QT X players? If the latter, which one? Are you getting any error message? If so, what are they? If not playing in your main user account on the computer, does it play useing a different account? Do the files play in other, third-party multimedia players?
Basically, your question is the equivalent of my saying my car won't start but failing to mention whether or not I am out of gas, my battery is dead, or that I have removoed the distributor cap, wires, or spark plugs from the engine. To properly solve the issue we need all possible information that you can provide describing exactly what you are doing, how you are doing it, what is not working as your expect it should, and what your goals are. In cases where you cannot answer such questions, it is often helpful to simply post/upload a sample "problem" file and let other users here examine it to determine the problem and/or suggest a specific solution for your particular system/configuration combination. -

If you cannot afford either of the third-party utilities:
• Alsoft Disk Warrior 3.x (DW3)
• Micromat TechTool Pro version 4.1.x (TTP4).
then you will need to follow the instructions in "Disk Utility reports 'Underlying task reported failure' when repairing a volume."
Specifically, given that your attempt to repair the disk using Disk Utility from your Tiger DVD failed, there are no other solutions available for this problem other than:
• Attempting repair with the third-party disk utilities cited above.
• Backing up whatever data can be saved, then reinstalling Mac OS X with an Erase and Install.
See the article I cited above for details. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
To avoid having to reinstall in situations like this, as funds permit you should consider investing in:
• Implementing a comprehensive backup and recovery solution. For advice on the backup and recovery solution I employ, see my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ.
