I think the best you can do is to use Oracle Encryption Wallet to store credentials for connecting to databases or use Password Encryption to create RMAN Encrypted Backups.

How can RMAN script check if database is down?

Some of our test databases are not always up and running, however when our backup software still calls the RMAN scripts and bombs when it can't connect, producing unwanted errors in the backup software logs.
Is there something simple I can put in the RMAN script that will check if the DB is down and simply exit if it is?

i know RMAN simply errors out, that's the problem.
we don't consider that a "real" error, but our backup software sees any error as legit and reports it to us.
we don't simply want to ignore these error messages, because sometimes they contain an error that IS important to us.

I heard about the possibilty of decompiling the java code and getting back the source code, is this flaw specific to java or is it common among all programming langauges?
how is it possible to protect the source code? and how expensive is the solution?

This is not a flaw!
Java is compiled on the byte level not bit level. This is so because the same class can run on Windows, Solaris, Linux and Unix. This makes the execution a little bit slower and easier to decompile but a small price to pay for cross platform compatibilty.

How to protect the source code in lookout

we are using the lookout 6.5 version for the automation. we want to protect the code from the end user, please confirm the possibility of the same.

The .lks file is the source file. If you give the .l4p file to end user, and the end user uses the runtime only server, they cannot modify anything. But actually they can modify the process if they have development server.

Why can't I open a sequence in the source monitor?

Normally when I edit, I use pluralize, which creates a sequence in which I can take notes. I usually then drag that sequence into my source monitor, create in and out point and place that into my final timeline. For some reason, Premiere is not letting me drag the file I need into the source monitor. Any idea why? Is there something with the settings off?

What's wierd is that some Sequences can be brought into my source monitor without a problem, while other's cannot.
I also noticed that the ones that can't be brought into the source monitor, if you were to import them directly onto the timeline, they are imported without audio. Those that can be brought into the source monitor import with audio and video.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, the Keep this iPod in the source list option does not exist in iTunes 7.
So the first thing you will probably want to do is let Apple know your feelings on the matter by submitting the form on this support page .
Done that? Okay then, so now you'll probably want to make the best of the situation by figuring out if there's any kind of workaround to deal with the matter.
The best I can come up with is suggest that you create a playlist dedicated to your iPod shuffle which, for discussion's sake, we can call the Shuffle Playlist.
Once you have created that playlist, when you connect your shuffle to your computer you can drag the Shuffle Playlist into your shuffle.
After disconnecting the shuffle you can get to work on modifying the Shuffle Playlist for your next update.
Note that you will have to manually clear the iPod shuffle's contents before putting a new Shuffle Playlist on it.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I was busy to figure out alternatives as harman kardon was a difficult affair to find and acquire, but the good news is I managed to get hold of alternative.
Sony I assume recently launched a Bluetooth headphone DR-BTN200 which is compatible to my MacBook Air , iPad mini and android phone galaxy s2 with ease, the sound quality is pretty good as compared to other brands of Bluetooth headphones I checked compatible or incompatible to apple devices alike, this is definitely what I was looking for, costed me 7990 INR, this is highly recommended for ppl who are confused, I carried my devices to the store and checked before I bought a pair and pretty much happy,
The best part of this is its battery backup, I have used this hours for 3-5 days but this has not drain even then, but I do keep this charging once in 2-3 days just to keep this ready otherwise it does not even ask for it neither the quality of sound drops after 2-3 days of use.
This is over the ear headphone which is very soft but it's get sweaty around the ear I guess that's bound to happen.
Do get back to me for any other details, would be glad to share with all :)

looks like you're using java web start to run app. am i right? personally i don't have much expertise in this area but i've had to deal with it before, essentially what your problem looks to me is that the codebase in your jnlp file is set up wrong
under my definition (vague) the codebase points to where java should look at to find your files and run them
do a search and read more about running apps. through web start if that's your case

Hello all, I hope you can help.
In Photoshop I have a problem to overcome and have delved into the world of scripting..
If there is a quick way to produce the following could someone help me with some pointers?
Here is my situation..
I need to produce a photograph proof card, these are for a double image option so cause me a headache compared to just creating an action..
This proof card really is just a set of two different photographs placed onto a background image.
I would produce two different images of the same person and name them exactly the same except they are suffixed with an A or B to keep them together, these would be in a folder with approx 500 other images for example (250 x two of each person)
My preference for the process would be done in the following sequence:
1/ Open the background file jpg (which is sized at 2400 x 1800 pixels @ 300dpi)
2/ Load the first image from the batch file and place this.
3/ Get the filename of the first image and create it as a text layer and write it below the image at 10 point text size.
4/ Create another copy of this layer and change the font to 3of9barcode font, however the font needs an asterisk before the text then again after it. e.g. *filenameA*
Only the first image has the need for a barcode as they are for the same person. This is at 18 point.
5/ Load the next sequential image from the batch file and place this.
6/ Get the filename for the second image and as Item 3/ create a text layer below at 10 point text size.
7/ Place a png overlay with my copyright information over the images (I need to do this twice, once for each image)
8/ Flatten the images and save the file in a new folder with the same filename as the first image.
I can do this in Lightroom with the exception of putting the barcoded text, and the filenaming, this is because the background image is used as the identity plate and the filename is not based on the data from either photograph..
Can anyone shed some light on where to go from here?

But I would recommend creating a template file (that already combines background image, png overlay and the Type Layers).
Maybe data driven graphics would also be an option …

Can I start playing encrypted content in the middle?

I have encrypted several contents using the methods SDK provided. But when I start playing the encrypted content(in f4v and flv format both), I found a problem. That is I can only play the video from the very beginning.Is there a way to play whatever part I want?

I found that I can only play the downloaded part and I must wait the browser to download the video slowly, Is there a way to solve that problem? Maybe it likes that when I seek a moment to play, then the browser send a new request to the server, and start to download from that moment.

Can a script be written to improve the import process?

Hello everyone -
One of our managers would like to create topics by importing text from Word. That is simple enough, but she would like to add a 'mapping' function to the import process that would create the topics in the appropriate folder.
For example, the RH table of contents is structured by category (4), state(50) and line of business(15). The Word file is structured as a table, and in that table are columns for category, state and line of business, along with additional text (such as description, etc).
During the import process, she would like to map the Word file by category, state and line of business. Using that mapping, import each line of the table and create a topic in the appropriate category, state and line of business.
Is it possible to write a script to accomplish this task? Or, is this just too complicated an operation?

if yes, you can change somethings by editing the loaded file(s). if no, you'll need to recreate the project starting with a new fla or hire someone to do what you want.

Protecting Apex Source Code

Hi,
It is possible to encrypt or protect the source code for an apex application.
I want to make sure nobody can export my application or at least that is not legible to protect the logic.
Any suggestions or workaround?

Hello Oliver,
You cannot encrypt the data in the apex tables (unless you use encrypted tablespaces, but then still you can access the data using an oracle front end). But you can use database packages (procedures/functions) to store your logic (and just call these functions from within apex). And you can wrap the source code of those packages..
