Can somebody explain what the Radix number is in Character

I am looking for a good way of converting numbers to characters and I was reading up on the Character API, and they are using this term Radix, and I don't understand what that is all about. Can somebody explain what the radix is for?

Wait a second I tried this code out and this is the output
System.err.println(Character.digit('a', 10));and i get a -1, which means "not a valid digit in the specified radix.
Then I tried other combinations like
System.err.println(Character.digit('a', 11));
System.err.println(Character.digit('b', 12));
System.err.println(Character.digit('c', 13));and they all work, and but with only those sequential characters and numbers. So right now I am very confused as to what this radix, or this function serves. Can somebody explain?

    Any idea why the "other" continues to increase. I have just got got my mac so no new apps installed yet only been using it for mail and web browsing. I tried the iphoto mail last night and noticed the the "other" section had increased by 1GB which I thought was rather larger. Do you know what this setion actually does ?
    Also do you know if it is possible to delete the iphoto emails.
    All of your 'stuff' that is not Music Movies Apps Backups or Photos is in Other, that means all your emails, all your files etc, why don't you just leave well enough alone, this is not windows and doesn't need tinkering with,

  • Can anyone explain what the 'other' storage consists of and how I can decrease the size please?

    Can anyone explain what the 'other' storage consists of and how I can decrease the size please?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    "Other" refers to OS X files, caches, downloads, documents. See Other in this website > http://pondini.org/OSX/LionStorage.html
    I would not worry about Other because they contain files that you need, but if you want to decrease the size, start deleting downloads and documents

  • Can somebody explain what is LUW ?

    Hi Gurus,
    can somebosy explain me what is LUW(Logical unit of work).
    I went through some book, but i am not able to get the concept.
    can somebody help me out inthis
    Thanks & regards
    Rajesh Meda

    hello Rajesh,
    Did you go this through this:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/41/7af4bfa79e11d1950f0000e82de14a/content.htm
    Check this out.
    Anyways as you know in SAP the user acting a presentation level tries to read/write data from database using SAP application layer. This entire activity consists of several dialog steps (small activities if you may) and is termed as a LUW. So an SAP LUW consists of several dialog steps which are dependent on each other. Only if all are completed is a LUW executed successfully and in case of any failures entire thing is roll backed and terminated.
    Regards.

  • Time Machine seems confused - can somebody explain what I am seeing?

    This is on my new MacBook Pro retina 13 inch. And I just started using Time Machine with it about 10 days ago.
    I was just looking at a certain folder via Time Machine and found the following strange results, as I "go back in time."
    Now: a folder and 3 files (that is correct).
    Today at 12:47 pm: 1 file (that is correct, because I created the folder after that, and added the 3 files).
    Today at 12:47 pm: no content - why is this entry even here? It's time-stamped the same as the later one.
    Today at 11:46 am: a folder and 3 files! The same as "Now." Why would that be? It doesn't make any sense.
    Today at 11:45 am: the same folder and 3 files as "Now" - with a time-stamp one minute earlier.
    Today at 11:45 am:  a repeated entry.
    It seems to be confused with all the entries prior to Today at 12:47 pm.
    Any idea why?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Anyway, I see what the Time Machine problem is. It is an artifact resulting from the fact that the finder window I was examining is on an external monitor.
    Time Machine displays on the MBP monitor, but none of the items are selectable, and some entries are incorrect.
    If I move the finder window to my MBP display and run Time Machine the entries are correct and selectable.
    So Time Machine apparently just doesn't play well with what is showing on an external monitor.
    AppleCare's response to that was: "Well, that is odd."
    Anyway, that is how it appears to work. I'll just make sure to not use Time Machine with a finder window on an external monitor for now.
    I don't know whether to mark this as "resolved" or not. I think I will, but Time Machine does seem to have a bug regarding finder windows on external monitors.

  • Please can someone explain what the firmware numbers me

    Hi,
    I would like to check whether I have the most up to date firmware for my Zen Micro but the number codes seem to be unfathomable. I have .02.05 and I don't need plays for sure because I don't use a subscription service. Is this the best one to have, because I am not sure if I still have the 24 hours standby mode before going into deep sleep, or whether I have the 4 hour.
    Thanks
    Isobel

    Ditto on ..0.
    On most Creative players with a choice of MTP (PlaysForSure) vs. non-MTP firmware--Micro, Sleek (the non-MTP version was in the initial European models; only MTP firmware is in US models or available for download anywhere), now Touch, and presumably Xtra when its MTP firmware releases--the .x.x line means non-MTP firmware; the 2.x.x line means MTP firmware. (The MicroPhoto is different, but from what I gather the non-MTP firmware on the first Singaporean models was a fluke.)
    Within each line (as you can see from fred_be9300's changelog), the higher the middle numbers, the more recent the release. Thus ..0 is more recent than .0.02, which is in turn more recent than your current .02.05.

  • Can someone explain what the new feature "Webform Security" is for?

    I notice there is a new field called "Webform Security" which inserts { module_ccsecurity ] into the form code but I have no idea what this is for and there is no reference to this module in the knowledgebase.
    Can anyone offer some details?

    Log into your bank, stay logged in and open a new tab. Then visit another site on the internet.
    Now lets pretend that on this other site, someone (like the site administrator or a commentor) included a link that pointed to a url such as http://www.YourBank.com/TransferMoney?FromAccount=12345&ToAccount=54321&Amount=1000 and then you clicked the link, the bank would think you were making a legitimate transfer request becuase you were still logged in.
    Fair enough, but you probably wouldn't click that link because you're smarter than that.  Unfortunately your browser isn't so smart, and it doesn't have to be a link.   They could have included an image tag, or css style sheet or javascript file that pointed to that url and your browser would have automatically "clicked" the link on your behalf when it tried to download the resource.
    Thats CSRF in a nutshell.
    There are ways to mitigate this danger, but its up to site owner (the bank in this example) to make sure this can't happen. As an end user it's mostly out of your hands. This tag appears to be BC's way to mitigate this, and it appears to be similar to other soultions to this problem.
    I don't know if it works though, it's not docummented, so your guess is as good as mine.  Either way its probably a good idea to include it on your forms.

  • Can someone explain what the application "iDvd" does or work?

    I want to learn to use the application called iDvd but not exactly sure what exactly is it used for? Can it be used to decorate dvds with special design stickers like the covers on dvd movies?

    Hi.
    iDVD allows you to create a Hollywood-style DVD that can contain personal and home videos and slideshows. The DVD can be played in any DVD player and can include motion menus and music, just as the DVDs released by the major labels.

  • My phone won't connect to the internet even though it says I have 3G.  As soon as I get home it connects to the WIFI and I get a flood of emails etc come through.  Can anyone explain what the problem might be?

    Whilst I'm at work I can't seem to connect to the internet, despite the home screen telling me I have a 3G connection.  I can't get anything to refresh at all, until I go home and my phone auto connects to the WIFI and then I get all my emails and app notifications come through in a flood.
    All other aspects of my phone working fine.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Check to see if you have cellular data enabled for mail.

  • Can somebody explain what happens here??

    Hi everyone.
    I was just wondering if someone could explain the following piece of code to me.
    Thanks a lot.
    Transform3D t3d = new Transform3D();
    Transform3D ct3d = new Transform3D();
    Matrix4d matrix = new Matrix4d();
    t3d.rotY(angle);
    viewingPlatformTG.getTransform(ct3d);
    ct3d.get(matrix);
    ct3d.setTranslation(new Vector3d(0.0, 0.0, 0.0));
    ct3d.mul(t3d);
    ct3d.setTranslation(new Vector3d(matrix.m03, matrix.m13, matrix.m23));
    viewingPlatformTG.setTransform(ct3d);
    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    Well I think the following task shall be accomplished:
    1)The rotation around the y axis should be concatenated to the rotation already done with the object.
    2)The rotation center shall be the center of the object (here the Viewingplatform), i.e. the center of the local coordinate system.
    For 2) first the translation part is saved in matrix (in fact the whole transformation is saved), then the translation part is set to 0,0,0 which leaves only the rotation part (thus the center of local coordinate system is center of global coordinate system). Then the new rotation is concatenated. Then the translation part (contained in matrix.m03, ...) is restored thus the object is at the original position again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Pls. explain what is “Split number” and the “Capacity ID” 10000426

    When I switching the network activity to TECO, the system throws an error “There are CATS records for the object to be deleted”. However we have transferred all the CATS records, but in CATSDB table found “Split number” as 1 and there is “Capacity ID” 10000426.
    Can anyone explain what is “Split number” and how to check the created “Capacity ID” 10000426
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Harisha

    Hi
    A "split" is a resource assigned to your network activity
    You are assigning 1 or more individuals to perform that activity
    In CJ20N view the splits using the Personnel Tab of the Network Activity
    Each person assigned to undertake that Activity is a split
    So the first person assigned will be split 1 and the second split 2 and so on
    If I remember correctly the Capacity ID is the internal no of the Person you have assigned to that Split (but I may be mistaken and it moght be the actual HR Mini Master No)
    With regards to your particular issue OSS note 894300 may help
    Hope this helps

  • My ipod was stolen, can I find out what the serial number of it is, based on looking at a connection history in my itunes? How would I do this? I didn't register it.

    My ipod was stolen, can I find out what the serial number of it is, based on looking at a connection history in my itunes? How would I do this? I didn't register it. I think I found the guy selling it, just looking to confirm the serial number and I'll make a phone call to the police.

    is this possible?
    Yes.
    Open iTunes on the computer you used to sync the iPod and select Preferences… from the iTunes menu.
    Select the Devices pane. Position the cursor over any of its backups. The iPod's serial number will appear in a popup window.
