Can SQLPLUS locate scripts on a hard drive??

Using the GUI SQLPLUS (not the command prompt) how do I locate scipts on my hard drive that I want to run? A friend showed me that I can use the command prompt to CD to a directory then run SQLPLUS from within that directory using the command prompt as my interface to SQLPLUS. But is there any way to located scripts using the GUI SQLPLUS that comes with Oracle to locate scripts similar to the way its done using the command prompt?
Thanks in advance

File | Open will bring up a dialog that lets you search for scripts. You can also specify the full path to the script at the SQL prompt, i.e.
SQL> @c:\oracle\ora92\rdbms\admin\catexp.sqlJustin

  • ITunes can't locate library on external hard-drive

I have had my iTunes library in a folder on an external E hard drive for some time, and it worked fine.
After I downloaded the latest version of iTunes - in response to a prompt from Apple - it now can't locate any of the tracks. The library is still displayed in full in the iTunes screen, but each track has an exclamation mark next to it, and if I try to play a track, iTunes tells me I have to locate it manually. If I locate a track manually, it plays, but that's obviously not ideal. Also, it won't sync my iPod, but just tells me that the named tracks can't be found.
I looked in the `iTunes music' folder in `My Music' on the C drive, and it has a handful of tracks in it. Those tracks play in iTunes as normal.
Going via Edit-Preferences-Advanced, the `iTunes media folder location' is set as the folder in my E-drive which contains my music library. I had understood that that was all I needed to do in order to enable iTunes to find my library, but I guess there must be another step I've missed.
I suspect that I should be using File-Add Folder to Library, but I'm not sure what the result will be if I do this. Will it copy the files from my E drive onto my C drive (and swallow up all the memory space on my laptop)? Will it duplicate all the tracks in the iTunes display so I have two versions of each track - one with an exclamation mark and one without? Should I delete all the tracks from iTunes before adding the folder?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Have you assigned E: to the exHD permanently? Because Windows can change USB drive letters on you, if you don't assign them.

That is the most common reason for itunes suddenly unable to find files.

  • Your firmware can not be updated because the hard drive...SMC 1.3

    Hi all !
    I have a problem. I'm have a macbook pro Santa Rosa =
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.27f1
This morning I saw the update for the SMC firmware (1.3).
Before restarting, I have this error :
    http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6606/26048579.jpg
Your firmware can not be updated because the hard drive partition scheme may not be supported. You must be booted from a GUID partiton or RAID scheme.
When I went into Disk Utility in order to check, here is what I have =
    Name : FUJITSU MHY2200BH Media
    Type : Disk
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
    Disk Identifier : disk0
Media Name : FUJITSU MHY2200BH Media
    Media Type : Generic
Connection Bus : Serial ATA 2
    Device Tree : /PCI0/SATA@1F,2/PRT0@0/PMP@0/@0:0
    Writable : Yes
    Ejectable : No
Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed : No
    Location : Internal
    Total Capacity : 186.3 GB (200,049,647,616 Bytes)
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Verified
    Disk Number : 0
    Partition Number : 0
I thought Boot Camp could be involved becauseI know it's the only thing related to the EFI.
I searched on internet, and Ifound nothing. There was a solution in order to reset the partition table, but the tool is no longer available. The link on on the application explains that I have to reformat my macbook pro. I find a bit weird to make this , I can't spend hours for backup / restore just because the SMC update does not work. have you any lead for me ?
    Thanks ,
    Razique

    Have you tried this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Can a use a partitioned external hard drive to create a disk image? I tried, doesn't seem to work using disk manager.

Can a use a partitioned external hard drive to create a disk image? I tried, doesn't seem to work using disk manager.

OK, it's very bad computing to use a backup disk for anything but a backup. The reason being is if/when the HD crashes you will have lost not only all your backup but the data files. While I commend you for wanting redundant backup, you really need separate EHDs for doing so. Format each EHD using Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID parttition. When you connect, OS X will ask if you want to use that drive as a Time Machine backup drive, select yes and then let it backup. On the second EHD format the same way however do not use TM as a backup, this time I'd suggest an app such as SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone of the internal HD. Leave both EHDs connected and TM will backup new or changed files automatically on a hourly basis. The clone you will need to set to backup on the schedule you want. For example I have my SuperDuper EHD set to backup only changed or updated files at 2AM every day.
The advantage of a clone is that if the computers internal HD crashes you can boot from a clone and continue working, TM will not do that but it's great for keeping an archive of all files. So if you want a version of a file from many months ago, TM will help you locate and restore it.

  • Time Machine: Can I use a smaller external hard drive with larger internal?

Can I use a 250G external hard drive with and 500G unfilled internal drive with time machine? Or will time machine require I a 500G? I don't plan on filling the internal drive for a long time and don't want to buy a new external drive right now.

Yes, but you are very likely to get in trouble very quickly.
The problem is that TimeMachine saves multiple versions of any file modified, and if that file happens to be large, you can quickly fill up your TimeMachine drive such that it is throwing away older versions faster than you would desire.
Also if your boot drive's storage usage gets even close to the 250GB external drive's capacity, TimeMachine is likely to stop working.
If possible, I would suggest an external drive that is twice as large as your boot drive, or at least 1.5 times larger.
I guess you could repartition your boot drive so it is smaller than your external disk so you would be less likely to use more space than could fit on the external.
Personally, my opinion about backups is that much of my data is impossible to replace (family pictures, etc...), and spending money on backup hardware is a small price to pay for securing those memories. I also try to have it backup in more than one location in more than one way.

  • ITunes can't "see" music on ext. hard drive....have to manually find

I have had my music/movie library (approx. 50gb) stored on an external hard drive and have been managing the music with iTunes for my iPod.
Now, for some reason, approx. 75% of my library has an exclamation point next to the song name on iTunes indicating that the song cannot be located.
Is there an easier way that manually searching file by file to show iTunes where these songs are located on the ext. hard drive?????
This would take hours and hours.
I am somewhat desperate and am hopeful that anyone with advice can't respond.
    Thank you.

I don't know if you've already found a solution to this problem but this tends to happen to me when I forget to plug in the external hard drive before I open iTunes. What happens is that iTunes automatically creates a new iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder of your Music folder (if you follow my drift). iTunes then looks for your music there;but it's not there because it's on your external drive. It then puts an exclamation mark against any music file that it can't find there. If you go to iTunes-preferences-advanced,click change, and change the iTunes Music folder location back to the folder on your external hard drive,or,if no folder, the hard drive itself, where the physical files are kept then iTunes should update its library and find them. If,of course, you've imported files while the iTunes Music folder is back in it's default position, they will have to be reimported.Make sure 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' is ticked, drag them out of the default folder to the desktop, double click,iTunes will reimport them to the external hard drive.Trash the files from the desktop when they've been copied over. Of course, there may be a simpler way of doing this but it works for me. Hope this helps.

  • I can't find my USB external hard drive.

I have macbook pro with OSX 10.6.8 . I have been using a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex Desk 2TB usb Hard Drive as my Time machine backup drive. I had it connected to my airport base station and it was working. I had to move the Base Station to a different location and now the hard drive can't be found. I have even tried doing a direct connection to the Notebook USB drive. The light go on on the front of the drive but I can not find it in finder or time machine. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

I have a somewhat similar problem. I've been running my MacBook off an external USB drive. I haven't used it in a while but now I get the flashing question mark as well. Safe mode tells me to restart the laptop. PRAM (sic) reset doesn't work. The drive mounts without a problem on my Mac Pro.

  • Finding iphoto (located in an external hard drive) in Bridge

How do I open (or find) iphoto, that I have located in my external hard drive, through Bridge?   I can see all the other things that I have in my EH, but not iphoto.

You can't, iPhoto uses a package file for it's library and neither Finder nor Bridge can show this content directly.
The two applications can't be mixed together, iPhoto as said uses a library structure and Bridge is a file browser reflecting the content in the folders of your user account or attached drives etc.
Also most edit settings (ACR etc) on raw files can't be exchanged between the two because they use different engines.
If you want the files from iPhoto to show in Bridge you have to export them first to a folder outside of iPhoto.
There is a way to make it a bit more easy.
Create a folder on your system and give it a proper name. Then open a new finder window and in column mode select pictures / iPhoto library. Here you see an icon of a stack of images.
click once on this icon to select it, then use right mouse click and from the menu choose 'show package content'
This opens a new window. Inhere is depending on version a folder called 'Masters' or 'originals'
Be sure to COPY the content (not move because then you loose the originals in iPhoto, you don't want that to happen) and after copy close the package content window (don't mess around with packages, just copy and close) open bridge and point Bridge to the newly created folder using the folder panel.
In menu view choose 'show items from subfolders' and let Bridge take its time to build the cache of all images in that main folder. Wait for the activity bar bottom left to finish completely.
Now you have all originals in a folder structure. Either keep this structure or create on of your own. You can also batch rename all files using shot date (yyymmdd and sequence number or other addition) to create a natural sort order for your files. It is all up to you and your custom wishes

I have two separate iTunes libraries on two separate Computers. I need to consolidate them so I can play them on my brand new computer. How do I do this so I can play them off an External Hard Drive on my brand new computer?

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

    Create a concatenated disk set
Increase storage space with a concatenated RAID set (also called “Just a Bunch of Disks” or JBOD). If you need one large disk, but you have only several smaller disks, you can create a concatenated disk set to use several small disks as one large disk.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select one of the disks that you want in the set, and then click RAID.
Click Add (+), and type a name for the RAID set.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu. Usually you’ll choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
Choose Concatenated Disk Set from the RAID Type pop-up menu.
Drag the disks you want to add to the set to the list on the right.
    Click Create.

Disk Utility 12.x: Create a RAID set - Apple - Support
Note that the biggest CON to concatenated RAID configurations is vulnerability to volume failure. If either disk fails, the whole volume fails. If you choose this option, I would highly recommend backing up your music to a cloud service. There are very cheap per GB/storage, and some of the most reputable actually offer unlimited storage:

can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name. My original external has an error and needs to be reformatted but I dont want to lose this informations its my entire Itunes library.

Sounds like the source drive is formatted as case sensitive and the destination drive is not. The preferred format for OS X is case insensitive unless there is a compelling reason to go case sensitive.
Why can't you change the filename? Is it because the source drive is having problems?  If so is this happening with only one or two or a few files? If so the best thing would be to copy those over individually and then rename them on the destination drive.
If it is more then you can do manually and you can't change the name on the source you will have to reformat the destination as case sensitive.

Connect the computer to another Mac and put it in FireWire Target Disk mode, or use the Disk Utility to clone the drive or image specific folders with the USB drive as the target. After you've copied off everything you want, you'll likely need to erase the drive and reinstall the applications.
