Can't add to GNOME panel

Greetings,
I have a fresh install of GNOME3.  I've read that right-clicking (or ALT+right clicking) on the panel ought to pop up a menu to allow me to add to the panel, but in fact nothing happens.  I've got "Activities", the day and time, and a handful of icons including a sound applet and something for my wireless.  I'd like to add a button to launch a browser.
Maybe the panel is the wrong place for that?  I've added it to the list of favorites, but that's still two clicks away -- one on activities, the next on the browser icon.  How do I set it up so I can start a browser with a single click?
Many thanks.

Not a click per se, but if you create a keybinding in xbindkeys you can start it in a single keystroke. I use the "refresh" key on my keyboard to start firefox
Also make sure you read up on the differences between Gnome2 and Gnome3. A lot has changed.

  • Can I add more than one horizontal separator to the PanelUI (the new panel menu)

    Steps:
    1. Click the new panel menu button (hamburger)
    2. Click Customize
    3. On the left, drag "Separator (for panel menu)" from "Additional Tools and Features" to the panel on the right. A horizontal separator appears. "Separator (for panel menu)" no longer appears in the "Additional Tools and Features".
I can add many "Separator" (vertical separator) to toolbars, but it appears I can only add one "Separator (for panel menu)" (horizontal separator) to the panel.
I would like to add additional horizontal separators to the panel. Is there a way to do that?
    Firefox version: 33.1.1

Yes, I do have Classic Theme Restorer installed (I love it!), but missed these customization nuances. After reading more threads, searching, and reviewing prefs.js, I saw the ctraddon_puib_separator.
A while back, I had problems with vertical separators, specifically with AIOS, and had also looked for horizontal separators. The solution at that time was customizableui-special-separator{d}, where d was a unique digit.
I always found the customization menu to be difficult to use, especially if a buttons addon was installed, mainly because it was unordered. I recently installed Sort and Search Customization Dialog and it has made a world of difference.
I just started changing my FF ways and using the new menu. I wanted to divide up the menu into sections or activities. On top I'd have a row of user tools like history, bookmarks, then a divider and have a row of customization tools, another divider and development tools. The divider which provides the visual separation and grouping is really nice. I hope FF adopts them. I'll take my questions and feedback to the Classic Theme Restorer Forum thread shown on the addon page:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer
    Thank you.

  • Can I add a PLAY or Continue button in my Configurator Panel with a script?

Some of my actions have a stop in them so that I can make some adjustments. How can I continue the action to complete it? Right now I need to go back to the regular action set and press the play button or have a shortcut key assigned to play. Can I add a PLAY button in Configurator?

    ocphotog wrote:
Thanks but the action does most of that already. The action makes one last stop so that I can make a few last adjustments. I need a play button for the Configuator panel so that I do not have to go back to the action panel to press play.
If the Stop is the last step in the action that action is actually done. I do not do panels but I would venture two guesses.
1.) Put the stop message in the pannel instead and remove the stop that is in the action.
2.) Leave the stop in the action so the user knows the process is done and they should make any final adjustment on ther own manually. Make the stop a stop with continue and add to the stop message click continue now.

  • Can add the "keywording" panel in the Develop tab?

Can add the "keywording" panel in the Develop tab?
In my workflow, I rate or tag a photo only after I've made some PP adjustment. So, my workflow would flow better if the "keywording" tab resided in the Development tab as well. Is this possible? Can you add a panel from another tab?

Not just keywords. Well.. I try to salvage borderline photos first through development, and add keywords if they come out right. If not, I reject the photos without adding any keywords.
    dj_paige wrote:
As CatOne2 said, you can't do this.
The Lightroom paradigm, for better or worse, is that you add keywords in the Library module.
I cannot imagine why you would need to first post-process a photo before you know what keywords to add. Can you explain why you feel this is necessary?

    Greg,

You'll be relieved to discover that it still is simple; it's
    just that
you have options now. :) Finding the approach that works for
    you will
depend on the version of ActionScript you're using, and your
    comfort level
    with more recent ActionScript workflows.
The shortest, quickest answer for you is probably to
    configure your FLA
for ActionScript 2.0 or 1.0, both of which support direct
    attachment of
code. Use File > Publish Settings > Flash to change
    your AS version. (In
Flash CS3 and CS4, you also have an option between AS3 and
    AS2 when you
create a new FLA.) The "trick" here is simply that
    ActionScript 3.0 does
not support direct attachment of code.
If you want to try the new way, you'll have to put your code
    in a
keyframe, rather than on the button itself. This approach
    requires that you
give your button(s) an instance name, so that Flash knows
    which object(s)
you mean. Here's a quick example, from a slightly dated (but
    still useful)

  • Openbox + Gnome-Panel

I've been tinkering around with openbox, fluxbox, pypanel, etc, trying to find the perfect WM setup. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I'm slow in making decisions as I have to play with everything to my satisfaction before making a choice. I've been a Gnome user for the past year and a half, since that's what I started with in Ubuntu.
One of the possibilities I threw around for a while was using Openbox with Gnome Panel. I eventually decided against it, but it occurred to me that I've never seen nor heard of anyone using OB with gnome-panel, although it is obviously feasible.
So, just curious, anyone out there use that combination?

The reason you don't see many screenshots of Openbox with gnome-panel is because gnome-panel is a resource hog that consumes upwards of 30MB of RAM--and that's without applets.  Add a bunch of applets to it and you'll see it increase further.
As has been commented here, many users run Openbox/GNOME. This is basically a full GNOME session, except that the Metacity window manager is replaced by Openbox.
At any rate, try it for yourself...you might like it.  Then again, if you're a speed/minimalist perfectionist, I can guarantee there are faster & lighter solutions, such as:
    * Pypanel
    * Tint
    * Visibility
Then there's the seemingly less obvious choice of running no panel at all, which is what I do when I run Openbox.  After all, it includes a desktop managing menu by default--all that's missing is a clock and a system try (ala conky/trayer).

  • A Win7 taskbar, Ubuntu Unity or OS X dock for gnome-panel?

Is there a widget for gnome-panel that I can add applications to and at the same time show open applications, with only one icon per application?
As the title suggest, I want something similar to the Windows 7 taskbar, or the Ubuntu Unity sidebar, or the OS X dock.
I'm aware of Gnome Do. But it has a separate dock. I want these application icons to appear in a normal gnome panel.

  • Gnome-panel acting a little strange.

perhaps this should be under the pacman boards, but i'm not exactly sure when the issue started happening, as i've been off and on this past week.
gnome-panel, on the top of the screen has been acting strangely. the application option does nothing; it acts as if it is being pressed and then no menu pulls down. also, under the system option, i'm missing many of them, and see neither administration nor preferences. additionally, all of my icons are gone - i can add them back, but i'd rather know why they left.
if i open a panel from cli as root, it seems to be my old panel complete with working pull downs as well as all the options. i also have three profiles on my computer, and two work perfectly.
so yeah, that's about all i can really say for now. anyone have any ideas?

    Hey there,
For kick's why not make a copy of current gnome settings and then let gnome re-create files.  My guess is gnome f'd up something for your user.

  • Garageband can't add loops

I am trying to save some software instrument regions I've created as loops that I can add to the Loops librar so I can easy add them to other projects. Everywhere I look for how to do this, I am instructed to select the region, then go to Edit > Add to Loop Library. The problem is that this option is not in m Edit menu at all. I have tried closing and re-opening GB, rebooting the computer, and making sure I have the latest version of GB. But no mater what I've tried, this option does not appear in my Edit menu. What am I doing wrong?
The othe rmethod I've tried is dragging the region over from the main window to the loops menu and dropping it in there. But when I click-hold and drag the region, it simpl slides it around the timeline as if I am trying to move it further behind in the track. It does not allow me to drop it in the Loops menu.
    Any help?

In GarageBand 10 it will look like it is not working, it is a bit confusing, but try this:
Cut the region you want to turn into a loop exactly at the bar line.
    Show the loop browser pane.
Select the region, grab it with the mouse and drag it over to the loop browser.
It will look, like you were shifting the loop in the track - simply ignore this.
Release the mouse, when it is over the loop browser and the panel to add the loop should open.
Name the loop and set the attributs to index it.

  • How many drives can i add in K430? Issue with LG bluray writer

    I have a K430 with SSD disk +SATA DISK+dvd-ROM.
I've changed the dvd-rom drive with an LG bluray writer and added a third harddisk.
Windows 8.1 sees the new hard disk but can't see the LG drive, it still claims is a the old dvd-rom drive. The drive itself has a blue led lightning as if it's operating but nothing happens and tray won't come out.
    Suggestions?

I've disconnected the new hard-drive and the LG bluray writer works even if there's a issue of the tray not opening with the front K430 panel installed (i'm looking into it).
SO i assume that i've reached the maximum number of sata devices and can't add a third hard drive, correct?

  • How can i add a new characteristic to Sap standard InfoObject?

    Hi Experts,
Please anyone let me know how can I add a new characteristic or a key figure into an SAP standard InfoObject in order to add it to the standard InfoCube? The situation is I would like to add region and business unit to the characteristics of the Industrial Hygiene and Safety. After that, I would like to add them to the InfoCube called Accidents: Person Involved [0EIH_C02] that is located in the MultiProvider called Accidents: Complete View [0EIH_MC01]. Is it feasible to do this way?
I just learned the BW/BI, so please help me with this. I would really appreciate your responses.
    Thanks,
    -Napadol

    Hi Napadol,
To add a attribute in a char:
    1) Go to info object/char in change mode and add the additional attribute you want and select navigational attribute in attribute tab if you want. (Create these additional attribute first in info object catalouge)
    2) Activate the Object/Char
    3) open info cube in change mode and pick the characteristic from left panel to info cube dimension.
    4) Activate infocube.
    5) Go to multi provider add the char in one of the dimension and do identification for this char and activate.

That was the first thing I tried! I must not have had the right level selected. It's been driving me batty, but I've got it now.

    Hi,
If you want to remove the add-ins of Office 2010 programs, you need to remove it from control panel.
For example, if you use Excel, please try to follow the link to delete the add-ins:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/add-or-remove-add-ins-HP010342658.aspx
If I misunderstand something, please let me know.
