Can't connect to IRC servers...at all

I've tried several different clients(Pidgin, Xchat, irssi), tried toggling the firewall on/off(Firestarter front-end), tried using OpenDNS's DNS servers, and I *still* get a timeout when trying to connect to freenode, efnet, and any other irc server. In fact, the problem extends to my XP partition, and I'm really unsure how to proceed. I'm behind a router, which at first glance makes for a straight-forward solution, however it didn't work without the router either(just connecting the ethernet cable to the wall).
I can track the issue back to when I first moved in with my sister, in her apartment. The ISP here is Cox Communications, but I seriously doubt they'd block completely block IRC(both servers and clients). I could previously connect to whatever IRC server(when I lived in my dorm, that is), which worked on the college's LAN.
Any advice on how to even begin to troubleshoot this is welcome.

Same problem. All my friends who do not use Verizon FIOS is able to connect to it. Just to confirm I tried to connect to IRC from work and I was able to connect.
So my conclusion is something is not right with DNS or some connectivity related problem from FIOS? I am able to connect to other sites without problems. Just the IRC is having this problem.
    Any help?
    Thank you,
    Ram

    I think I know why:
    1. Verizon assigns IP addresses dynamically. It's an automatic process, no one is manually handing out IPs.
    2. The issue is not with the IP addresses that Verizon assigns, but with the blacklists not updating the IP addresses when they are changed. Verizon can't change third party server' lists; it is up to the listing servers to keep their filters updated.

  • Can't connect to secure servers

For some reason, at some point during the middle of the day, Safari quit being able to access secure websites. I can't for the life of me figure out the problem. I didn't install anything new, and I've already run disk utility (All permissions are repaired) and zapped the PRAM, but no change. It's definitely a problem with the computer's software because I've reset my modem and downloaded Firefox, which CAN connect to secure servers. Though, in addition to Safari, Mail is having the same issue, and I can't access my Gmail accounts through it. In all my years of using Safari, nothing like this has ever happened. Any ideas as to what's going on?
PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   667 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB HD

I'm not sure about Panther and the content of the related certificates found in Keychains. The key is getting the certificates back. Incidentally, G-mail is an https site, so that too would be affected by the same issue.
The certificates are installed as part of the OS X installation. One possible avenue is to reapply the 10.3.9 Combined Update. This update may install a new keychains file. Make sure you "repair permissions" after running the Installer. Do not use the computer while the installation is running.

  • Can't Connect to Apple Servers

Cant connect to Apple Servers. Can't use iCloud, iTunes Radio, App Store, iTunes Store, FaceTime, iMessage on my iPad Mini Not even Apple's Website Help

You may be connected to your Wi-Fi network but is your modem supplying internet data to the Wi-Fi router?
Can you use Safari to browse the web? If you can't, you should look into rebooting (power-cycling) BOTH the modem and the router. If they are separate devices, power on the modem 1st and allow it to stabilize ~60 seconds or so. Next power on the router and allow it to stabilize for ~60 seconds as well. Try again.
If both the modem and router are in one device, simply power-cycle that device.

  • Safari can't connect to some servers but FF can??

Safari can’t open the page “http ://www.xxxxxxx.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.xxxx.com”.
I've been getting this all day but not with all sites. I tried FF on the last one where it happened and it opened it fine. I've even got this trying to open a page at Apple Support. How can I fix this?
It happened with both Safari 3.2.3 and with Safari 4 after I installed it today.
    Computer: Powerbook 12" 1.5GHz, MacOS 10.4.11.
    Thanks

I have just strated having the problem outlined above....with www.yahoo.com and www.google.com (both directly connecting to Google, and using the built-in search box in Safari). Others seem to be fine. Have tried the suggestion above - no luck. Also tried "Reset Safari" to no avail.
    Has anyone discovered a solution?
    I could try re-installing Safari I s'pose.....

  • Can't connect to any servers.

Firefox will not connect to any servers after I updated my computer. After not using it for two months. I have to use outlook to get on the internet.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Safari can't connect to any servers or webpages

    Hi,
I have my internet running without issues. I use Firefox, and currently viewing this page and typing.
Also I can access an FTP server elsewhere in another country.
However when I open Safari, I can't seem to get on any websites with "Safari can't connect to the Server" no matter where I go.
I tried to go on Apple site to download Safari but only available version is the Snow Leopard.
Any idea how I can fix this problem?

Update your DNS to a known-good server, such as OpenDNS or Google DNS.
Reference Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage ... - Support - Apple for more information.
If using known-good DNS doesn't resolve the issue, turn off plugins and extensions in Safari. Check to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, then one of the plugins or extensions is causing the issue. Follow Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may ... - Support - Apple for more information.
If the issue is not resolved by addressing the DNS or add-ons, then start by emptying Safari caches. If that doesn't help, then reset Safari (note: you will lose auto fill contents, such as saved passwords, for example). If it still doesn't work, there are additional steps, but the DNS or add-ons are most likely the cause.

  • Connecting to irc servers

    No can do:
... for any main channel on all three servers I want, gets me nowhere but ...
    Setup:
... courtesy of a discussion over here, plus I did enable this account's IRC service.
Info is scarce otherwise, no matter what source. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to make this work?

    Hi,
The Jabber side is not really the area I know most about.
I have Psi version v0.14 on my G4 computers and it's GUI is a little different from your pics.
However I have to right/Control Click the IRC line to register and well as adding it to the roster.
If I hold the mouse over it it seems there are more names regarding it's Group chat options.
On the server I use I also do not have a separate listing for IRC Conferences.

  • Upgrad to 10.4 - now can't connect to my servers

I have an older non Intel Mac Mini that was working fine on 10.3.9. Decided to upgrade to 10.4 yesterday.
Everything is working okay - I can connect to the Internet and email no problem - EXCEPT, when I try to log on to one of my servers, I get the following error:
The alias "Server" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.
I can't delete the alias, there is no way to access the server to show the alias where it is, network diagnostics thinks everything is just fine!
It is said the definition of insanity is checking the same settings over and over while expecting different results.
Any thoughts? About this issue, not my mental state?

FYI - I had upgraded to 10.4 from a CD, and when I upgraded that to 10.4.11, I was able to connect to my local servers again!

  • Can't connect to Adobe Servers behind Sonicwall TZ 200

Since being behind a Sonicwall TZ 200 I can no longer connect to the Adobe servers. We have opened port 80, 443 and it was also suggested that we open ports 1935 and 8080 which we did but we still aren't able to make a connection. If we connect this Mac to a hot spot we can connect fine so we know it's the Sonicwall causing the issue.
This is a Mac running OS X with no antivirus/firewall on and no proxy settings.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Thanks for the link John. I have actually read through that thread and a couple of links within it linking to the Adobe troubleshooting page and another thread. Still no success though. Adobe can't seem to figure it out either. I can't imagine what the issue is a Sonicwall is a widely used security appliance/router and our network isn't complex.
    Thanks

  • All of our iOS devices are displaying the message that they can't connect to the Internet.  All show good wifi connections.  Our Macs all connect to the internet just fine suggesting that the network is good.  I'm stumped.

Airport Utility on the Macs show good internet signals but on our two iPads and my iPhone 5 there are no indications of internet connectivity.  One of the iPads is running iOS 7 but the other is still running iOS 6.  The iPhone 5 is updated to iOS 7.
Is there a setting switch that if set incorrectly would create this problem?  Like I said before, all the iOS devices stopped internet connectivity at the same time.
Update:  Well while I was typing this I was called away to help get people to bed etc.  And when I got back I tried all four iOS devices and, now, they all connect to the internet.  I don't understand it.  Two iPhones, different iOS versions, and two iPads, different generations and also different iOS versions, all decided that they would disconnect themselves from the internet but stay connected to the wifi network.  Somebody must have an explanation for what just happened.  Remember it isn't the router because the Macs all had uninterrupted internet connections.  Weird!

I used to have a satellite connection to the internet. When ever the power went off I was told to turn on the devices in a specific order for them to work properly.
Try shutting off every device including all iPads, iPhones, computer, Wi-Fi router and Satellite modem. Then turn them on one at a time in the order listed below. Be sure to wait until each device completes its start up routine before starting up the next item. When my satellite modem was restarted it often had to download an update. The time this took varied with the update. So be sure the Satellite modem is up and connected to the Satellite before going to the next device.
    1. Satellite Modem.
    2. Wi-Fi Router
    3. Your computer. Check to see that your computer connects to the internet.
    4. iPad or iPhone and remaining devices one at a time.
