Can't connect to software update and other online services with airport

Hello, hopefully someone can help with this problem. When going to use software update using airport I get an error message saying there is a network problem and it can't connect. Also, when trying to use Microsoft Messenger it can't connect either way.
I can connect and use the internet using airport and apps such as iChat and Entourage work.
Can someone tell me why I can't connect to Apple's Software update service through airport?
Thanks

Is your network configuration something like the following:
DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AirPort Extreme Base Station > (wireless) > MacBook?
...and, if so, you are able to get to Software Update when connecting your MB directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN port of the AEBS...correct?
Since, you stated that you are using port forwarding, I assume that you have setup your MB with a static IP. Do you have any Proxies setup on either/both your Ethernet or AirPort connections on the MB?

  • How can i connect a Wireless Keyboard and a Trust mouse with a brand new Mac mini?

How can i connect a Wireless Keyboard and a Trust mouse to a brand new Mac mini?

Go to the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar and select "Set Up Bluetooth Device". Follow the wizard.
Alternatively, if you haven't yet unboxed and setup the Mini, you can pair the keyboard to the Mini (and possibly the mouse). However, I would set up with a USB keyboard and mouse and pair the Bluetooth devices afterwards.

  • Safari quits unexpectedly and can't connect to software updates

Hi, can anyone help? have never had any trouble with mac before but today it's been endless!
    1. safari quits unexpectedly - takes much longer than usual to open safari then it suddenly quits after about 10 seconds
    2. went to software updates but got message saying it couldn't connect for updates (internet is working fine and firefox runs no problem)
    3. mail can't connect to gmail to send mail, can receive mail but can't seem to send
would be really grateful for any advice - i'm useless with IT so please make it simple! thanks!

    Hi and welcome....
First, try downloading and installing the v10.6.5 Combo Update available as a standalone here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
That download file size is nearly 1GB. Make sure there's plenty of free space on your Mac startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*
If that won't work, follow the instructions here for help. Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If you can't solve the problem, post a crash report so we can and help you.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Might be a good idea to check System Preferences / Network - Assist Me - Diagnostics too. If you see any red buttons on the left, click Continue.
Another troubleshooting idea is to login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. If it crashes there also, then it's possible there's a problem with the startup disk. Follow the instructions here to Use Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Can't connect to Software Update, Stream radio in iTunes, etc...

I can connect to the internet fine, I can stream music through real player (same stream that won't work in iTunes), torrent applications work.
When I run Update Software I get "a network error has occured: timed out (-1001)" I can't connect to any radio stations in iTunes and streams won't work in Quicktime.
I read on the apple site somewhere that I have to throw out my "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate" in my library to allow Update Software to work, which it didn't....
I can't say 100%, but I believe this may have all started to happen after my 10.4.5 update
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

hey_surburbia it is impolite to bump threads in this way
In order to help you can you list your setup.
what kind of internet connection do you have ? What kind of modem/router do you use?
What kind of firewall are you using? are you using a proxy server?

  • Can't connect to software update server

Trying to update our iphones, but keep getting a "Contacting iphone software update server" message that runs forever and eventually says cannot connect. My internet connection is fine.  Any thoughts?

I have a similar problem. I took my iMac to an Apple Store to have the guys at the Genius Bar troubleshoot a problem. They checked out my iMac, and suggested I do an Archive and Install when I got home. Result - the problem was fixed! But it wiped out 10.5.1, 10.5.2, and 10.5.3. I'm internet-limited for large downloads, so I returned to the Apple Store with my iMac and asked them if they could download 10.5.1 through 10.5.3, which they did. But now I have tried to download 10.5.4 and I always get this message: "Software Update can't find the update server. Make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again." [I am connected to the internet.]
I ran the Network Diagnostics: Airport, Airport Settings, Network Settings, ISP, and Internet all have the green "dot." But Server has a red "dot" and says Failed (underneath it). I continued with the Network Diagnostics and got this message: "Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet, but not to the server 'lehighvalley.local'. [This is the server for the Apple Store.] This could be caused by problems with the server or an Internet problem between this computer and the server."
Result - I can't download any updates (because the Software Update can't find the update server). Any solutions? Thank you.

  • Can't connect to Software Update not working

My Software Update is no longer working (it just suddenly stopped). When I try to launch it, I get
Software Update can't find the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, then try again. Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
I'm then given the option to run Network Diagnostics. When I do, I get the following:
Cannot connect to server - Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet, but not to the server "su.local" This could be caused by problems with the server, or an Internet problem between this computer and the server.
I've been manually updating OS updates, but not sure I'm getting all the ones I need.

Hello and welcome to the discussions. The server "su.local" sounds like your home network. My Software updates (10.5.6) come in on ports 80 and tcp port 6. Perhaps you have your computer accessing a local server first before it reaches the net.
    Just a thought...

  • JDK 1.4 license clauses about Software Updates and Other Software

Does anyone know what these clauses in the JDK 1.4 license mean? There is an old thread on this at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=219875&start=0&tstart=0 but there was no response from Sun. I'm using the JDK in a Tomcat server application -- should I be worried that pieces of the JDK will be updated on my server without my knowing it? Or does this refer to applets downloaded to a browser?
    From http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/j2sdk-1_4_2_10-license.txt:
7.SOFTWARE UPDATES FROM SUN. You acknowledge that at your request or consent optional features of the Software may download, install, and execute applets, applications, software extensions, and updated versions of the Software from Sun ("Software Updates"), ...
8.SOFTWARE FROM SOURCES OTHER THAN SUN. You acknowledge that, by your use of optional features of the Software and/or by requesting services that require use of the optional features of the Software, the Software may automatically download, install, and execute software applications from
sources other than Sun ("Other Software"). ...

Just means that applets and other products so enabled can and will (after optionally asking for permission) connect to the net to download libraries they need if and as needed.
The JVM provides that functionality so it's in the JVM license agreement.
Nothing sinister, Sun isn't going to spy on you.

  • IPhone 3GS can't connect after software update

My iPhone 3GS can't connect to my M1424WR anymore after I updated my iPhone software.  Apple suggested I update my router software - any tips?

Try use "forget this network" then re enter the wep/wpa key (network password) this happens sometimes with my iTouch.
Other than that, there is no reason the iPhone cannot connect. =/

  • Officejet Pro 8610 - Can't connect to wireless network (and has similar issue with previous printer)

When I returned from a trip, I was unable to connect to my trusty HP All-in-one 7510 that I had on my network for three years.  I tried troubleshooting it, reinstalling the software on numerous computers, and fixing the printer, but alas the printer said that it was connected to the network, and none of my computers wanted to find it anymore.
Then I bought my new Officejet Pro 8610 this week, set it up...and I am experiencing the same issue.  I tried using the link and support took from this post - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officejet-Pro-8610-Can-t-connect-to-wi... but the printer was unable to be found on the network.
I would appreciate any help on this issue.  Thanks!

  • Can you keep doing software updates and updating iTunes on an older MacBook? Thanks!

I'm thinking of buying a used MacBook but I was told that I will not be able to download mountain lion (it has lion installed) or newer software? I was also told that this will mean that I will not be able to download the newest versions of iTunes. Can anyone tell me please if this is true and if so does anyone know roughly how soon it will be obsolete please? I need iTunes for updating my iPhone this is one of the main resins for purchase. My budget doesn't allow me to purchase a new mac, they are too expensive for me. Thank you any help would be greatly appreciated!

The latest version of Mac OS X you can run on a Mac depends on the model. If the Macbook you are considering will not run Mountain Lion, there is nothing you can do about that.
If you do need Mountain Lion, then look for a more recent Macbook. Here are the requirements for ML:
By the way, those codes like 5,1 are the Model Identifier. This info is part of the system profile on every Mac. You should ask the vendor for this information before you consider buying a computer.
I have seen MB's that can run ML, selling on eBay for around $500.00.
    Good luck.

  • Netflix and other online services not showing on mainscreen

I had a bad surprise today on my AppleTV. When I started AppleTV, the main screen now only showed Settings and Computers icons. I do not see Music, Movies, Netflix, NHL, etc. icons anymore. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thank you,

    Hi vazandrew,
Thank you, but just a little bit to complicated for me. How can I ensure that I am on my ISPs DNS?
After chacking my Apple TV menu I can only find "Reset" and "Restore", but no "Restart". So how can I perform a "Restart"?
Finally, is there a sequence for the restart process (i.e. router before device)? Presently, my iPod connects with Internet perfectly.
And if you still got time, what caused that problem so I can avoid it in the future?
    Thank you,

  • Cannot connect to Software Update & Safari can't find server

    iMac G4 Flat Panel 800MHz
    Tiger 10.4.11
    DSL/ ATT Yahoo
I can't connect to Software Update. Also:
Safari 3.1.2 can't connect to internet, instead I get the following in browser- "Safari can’t open the page... because it could not connect to the server"
Other browsers likewise can't connect, except Firefox 2. which does connect with no trouble.
I have tried various "fixes" suggested elsewhere, without success. If you have any idea what it may be and how to fix, you will be 'friend forever' Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem and solved it by unchecking "web proxy". The trouble is, it gets checked again without me doing anything. This happens repeatedly, even if the setings are locked.
    Any ideas?
