Can't establish a wireless connection

Product: HP Photosmart C8180
Recent Changes: Purchased new wireless router and setup WPA security
My printer is unable to see either of my two wireless networks within my home "springfield" nor "springfield_EXT" (a network extender).  Both require a WPA password.  If I connect the printer to the extender directly via network cable, I can access the printer via IP address from any of my home network computers fine.  I can navigate via the web administration tool to Networking > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced and set my SSID, WPA passphrase, etc.  I am confident that I am not making typos with this info and it says it saves successfully.  When I unplug the wired connection to the extender, the printer never connects to the wireless network.  Where am I going wrong?

cuscus,
This may be a little late.
I noticed that the 5Ghz band is enabled on the Linksys.
I'm not certain if that band is actually used, but could it be disabled for testing purposes?  5Ghz band being enabled causes various weird network issues with some printers.  Disabling 5Ghz should help identify if that is the issue or not.
Once the band is disabled, be sure to restart the router and the printer to ensure the new changes are reflected.

  • "iTunes couldn't connect to this iPad. Can't establish a secure connection to the device."

    Hello anyone this might concern,
I'm having a  problem with my week-old iPad 3 WiFi + 4G (although not 4G in Sweden, but anyway). When I yesterday (19th of June 2012) tried to hook my iPad to my mid 2011 iMac 27" wanting to synchronize it, I got a warning message that I've never seen before and not being known on the interwebs when searching for it.
Translated from Swedish it says: "iTunes couldn't connect to this iPad. Can't establish a secure connection with the device". No error code or anything. Just a window saying this and an OK button. Wierd I thought, tried to search for it and got hits that were similar but not in my opinion the same problem at all. Some people had problems a couple of years ago giving the similar error message, that had to do with the date and time not being the same on the iDevice as the computer hooking it up to. I checked my settings but everything checks out all right.
After a couple of tries of restarting both the iPad and the iMac, reinstalling iTunes etc etc I tried to connect my iPhone 4S. That went just fine, without a hitch. I was able to synchronize it, do whatever. So I took out my MBA 13" late 2010, connected the iPad to it and started iTunes - voilá it worked just fine! But still, the issue remains on the iMac today. I can't for the love of Steve understand what the problem is.
So, anyone out there sitting on an awesome fix?
    Thanks,
    Jacob

    OK!
So I myself had this issue and have solved the issue.  Let me recap:
    1: Purchased a 13" Mac Book Pro
2:Already owned an Ipad that was syned with the PC I was previously using
3: When I connected my Ipad to the brand new Mac and opened Itunes was told (paraphrase) "Itunes can not connect to your Ipad...can not find secure connection
4: Called a multitude of Apple customer service folks who were really nice but couldn't help
              1) I tried different ports
              2) various apple connectors were used (not technical word but you know the cord that you use to connect your iPad to your cable with the usb)
              3) and on and on.....and no the date and time thing mentioned on many forums didn't work
              4) was able to sync photos through iPhoto with no issues
    So what solved it:
    1) Back up your iPad to iCloud (make sure it fully completes)
    2) Go to General~Reset~Erase All Content and Settings
    3) When iPad restores it will eventually get to a promp "restore from iCloud" say yes
    4) At this point you are home sweet home...connect to itunes and Walla!
I also discovered how to sync Google calendars (if you have multiple like me) and google contacts to address.  Holler at me if you need those too...don't waste your entire day like me. Peace Out!!

  • Safari 6 OS 10.8 Mountain Lion - can't establish a secure connection to the server

Hi everyone! I have difficulties with Safari 6 on OS 10.8 Mountain Lion... When i attempt to connect to various secure http sites, Safari will fail to connect, saying "safari can't open the page because safari can't establish a secure connection to the server" Other times, a small rectangle will appear within the address bar labelled https, and all will be well. It's quite random and irritating. To get it to word again, sometimes a relaunch does the trick, sometimes I have to reset safari. Is there something I can do?

  • Safari 8.0.3 Can't establish a secure connection to the server

    I have a Macbook Air (early 2014) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Safari is version 8.0.3
When accessing the websites "https://www.national-lottery.co.uk" and "https://portal.wmpfonline.com" I am given the below message:
Safari can't open the page "https://www.national-lottery.co.uk" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "www.national-lottery.co.uk".
Initially when I bought my Macbook Air these sites worked perfectly. Also, when I clear website data it will work for a short period of time (roughly 2 minutes) but other times that makes no difference.  I have tried using FireFox but I still have an issue accessing these sites.  When in recovery mode both sites work perfectly fine without an issue.
Is anyone able to help me with this issue?  I have been searching and searching for a week to find a solution to this problem.
    Thank you all in advance

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for it.
Back up all data, then take each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time
Select the Time Zone tab in the preference pane that opens and check that the time zone matches your location. Then select the Date & Time tab. Check that the data and time shown (including the year) are correct, and correct them if not.
    Check the box marked
              Set date and time automatically
if it's not already checked, and select one of the Apple time servers from the menu next to it.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemCACertificates.keychain
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open. The dialog should show "You can only read" in the Sharing & Permissions section.
    Repeat with this line:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
If instead of the Info dialog, you get a message that either file can't be found, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it by pressing command-V. Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 3
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
Open the View menu in the menu bar. If one of the items in the menu is
              Show Expired Certificates
select it. Otherwise it will show
              Hide Expired Certificates
    which is what you want.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu labeled
              Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    select
              no value specified
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings.
Now open the same inspection window again, and select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Save the change in the same way as before.
Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings. Never again change any of those settings.
    Step 4
Select My Certificates from the Category list. From the list of certificates shown, delete any that are marked with a red X as expired or invalid.
Export all remaining certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
              Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
    Step 5
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Step 6
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    /var/db/crls
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "crls" should open. Move all the files in that folder to the Trash. You’ll be prompted for your administrator login password.
Restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.
    Step 7
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in the same way you launched Keychain Access.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
    fe80::1%lo0                    localhost
If that's not what you see, post the contents of the window.

  • I've been trying to create a Skype account, but I can never establish a secure connection to website

No matter which browser I use (Safari, Firefox or Chrome), I can't get to the page to create a new account / sign into an account because the browser can't establish a secure connection. For example, Safari gives me this message: Safari can't open the page "https://secure.skype.com/portal/overview" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "secure.skype.com". Firefox and Chrome give me similar messages. I downloaded the application to my MacBook Pro without any issue, so I really don't understand why this seemingly simple step is giving me trouble.

We are currently experiencing issues with several Skype services including account registration. Our engineers are investigating the issue and hope to resolve soon. We apologize for the inconvenience. Follow further updates here: http://heartbeat.skype.com/2015/07/skype_web-service_disruption.html

  • Can't access HTTPS sites-message says can't establish a secure connection

Whenever I try to access any secure (HTTPS) site, I get a message saying that Safari can't establish a secure connection. I'm running on an I Book G4, 10.3.9. This started a couple of weeks ago. It had been fine.
I have an IMac runnning the same operating system and the same Safari version and that works fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks

You need to update OS X to v10.8.5
Click your Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
OR, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu top of the App Store window.
    Then follow the instructions.
When the updates are finished, try Safari.
Very very important to keep your Mac's software up to date.

  • Can't establish a sftp connection with the finder

Hi, I'm trying to establish a sftp connection with the finder (using the "Connect to server" feature) between my (recently purchased) Mac Mini (mid 2011: i5, 2.3 GHz, 2 GB, running 10.7.3) and a Debian Testing box and I can't, I get the following error:
'There was a problem connecting to the server "ip.address"
This file server will not allow any additional users to log on. Try to connect again later.'
However if I try establishing a connection from the terminal (either ssh or sftp) it works flawlessly:
    SSH:
    victoria:~ RonIn$ ssh [email protected]

I've searched for a fix or alternative on the internet and I haven't found one that works; The one that keeps coming up is to try: "ftps" as the protocol instead of "sftp" with the remaining information the same (it doesn't work, it gets the same error message afterwards).
The IP address and login information works (corroborated by the fact that I can log in from the terminal from the Mac Mini) so the only issue is with the finder capabilities for establishing the connection. I have looked for apple related documentation or How Tos but I haven't found anything useful.
I don't want to use any third party app or tweak because of the sensitive information that is going to be transfered, I would like to be using strictly the tools from the OS.
If you need any more information please let me know, any help is deeply appreciated.

I have the same issue although i kind of fixed it. I have two admin accounts and one of the account's safari did the same thing as yours, except, it was the startpage and everypage i tried to visit. I reseted safari, as in the erase all data safari in the toolbar, safari-Reset Safari... But safari still didn't work. I logged out and went to my other account and opened safari. Now it works fine on both accounts. This meant safari had to logout before actually working better. I have this a few times these days.

  • Can't set up wireless connection for HP C4385 All-In-One with Windows 7.

    Hi guys,
I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. I already had an HP C4385 All-In-One that I was using with my last computer. I have also just set up a new wireless network because I got a new cable provider. So basically I needed to do everything from the beginning.
When I inserted the setup CD and ran the setup program, it said I couldn't continue because my OS was not supported. I went to the HP website and found the solution, which was to plug the printer in via USB and let Windows Update find the latest driver. Ok, that's fine, the printer works now when the USB cord is plugged in.
To set up the wireless connection, the instruction manual says I need to do it through the network setup wizard p on the CD. But that brings me back to my original problem-- the setup CD won't work because it doesn't recognise Windows 7.
So my question is-- how can I update the network settings (SSID and key) on the printer without the network setup wizard?
Thanks for any help, this is really driving me crazy!

The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password.  Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls.  Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)?  If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.

  • Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server

    Hello,
I am wondering if someone can kindly help me solve the following problem?  I have been trying to troubleshoot myself, but it seems that the problem persists.
    Issue
I am having problems asscessing a wireless web login.  The University that I attend allows students to access the wireless web by entering their login and password.  When a new browser session is started, it automatically directs to the wiresless web log in.  Initially, I had no problems and could easily access log into the site.  Recently, I have had a issue where I try to log in and I get one of two error messages:
Safari can't open page "xxxxxx" because Safari can't estabish a secure connection to the server "xxxx"
Your login was processed successfully but a DNS Timeout occured.  You will need to close and restart your browser in order to reach your orginal desitnation.
    Notes:
Issue #1 happens the most often.
When issue #2 happens, I close my browser and open a new one but the page remains blank.
The wi-fi shows full strength and all others in the room have the ability to log on/off with no problems.
I have no problems with other secure sites when accessing from home wireless connection.
    Troubleshooting
    I have tried several things:
    Date and Time - correct
Parental Controls - none are set
Keychain First Aid - no errors
Another User Account - I have tried using a different user account and the problem continues
Used another browser - I have tried using Firefix, same problem
Open DNS - I have added DNS servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 but the problem continues
Safari Clean Up - I have emptied cache, cleared history, reset safari, same problem
I have tried to research the issue and troubleshoot as best as I can but nothing seems to work.  I am somewhat new to Mac's but am pretty savy but need a bit of guidence to figure this one out as I am not sure exactly what I need to do and don't want to mess up any settings any further and compound the issue.  It is quite frustrating as I am unable to access the internet and class website during class.
I should mention that at one point I had a scan/clean app installed.  Before this app was installed it seems to work, however, I can't directly link the timing.  I can't remember exactly which program it was as I have since removed it.
Can someone help me identify the issue?  Is it a Certificate Authority or DNS issue?  I would love to get this solved...
    Thank you!

mdkat, I have encountered this problem in the past, and doing the following helped:
In the URL, simply lop off the "s" at the end of https:// and load the resulting URL.
Before you quite understandably jump on me to say that this action will result in a non-secure connection, confirm for yourself that this will result in the web page being reloaded with the proper https:// protocol with the secure SSL/TLS layer as well as the feel-good lock icon.
That is not to say this behaviour is correct. Obviously the warning you see is an indication Safari / Firefox and the site you're accessing are not communicating in some way, but fixing it is up to them.
Use as you see fit, as I say it works for me.
I should mention that at one point I had a scan/clean app installed.  Before this app was installed it seems to work, however, I can't directly link the timing.  I can't remember exactly which program it was as I have since removed it.
Good idea. Probably not related though, since I have never installed such things.
... and thank you for writing such a thoughtful and well-organized question!
