Can't even FAIL at burning a cd - it won't start!

so when i make a new playlist and hit "burn disc" the display where the song is reads "disc burner or software not found". my burner is a generic TSSTCorp drive, and i can't find updated drivers. i am also able to burn cds using Sonic, some crappy program that came with my computer, but it obviously can't burn songs i've purchased from the itunes store.
when i am in itunes and go to edit >preferences >advanced >burning my drive is listed right after "cd burner:", which i think means the thing works. but when i go to help >run diagnostics... >cd/dvd drive tests and run the test, even when a cd is in the drive the test fails every time and yields a red light saying "no audio cd found"
help?

Well, somehow I fixed it by successfully upgrading to the newest version!
Thanks anyway Apple!

  • Can't Update to 10.0.1, Bonjour Service Won't Start--PLEASE help!

All I want to do is update my iTunes but I cannot. It won't work from within iTunes, and when I try to do it manually it said "The Service Bonjour Service" won't start." In Services, I could not start it either, though I am admin.
So I deleted Bonjour (from within the Control Panel), thinking that'd take care of it, but it did not. I still get ALL the same messages. I even tried re-installing Bonjour (bonjour64.msi), and I get the same "won't start" message. It's not my firewall--I set that to always allow.
What is going on here? I've searched and searched, but to no avail (though they are plenty of Bonjour problems out there), and I really don't want to uninstall/reinstall iTunes, if that would even do it. I'm new to Apple, and this just makes no sense to me.
    Please, help?? THANKS in advance~

There are remants of Bonjour in the program files, and I guess I could delete these to clean it up, but I doubt that would make the difference.
Actually, that could make a difference. If there is leftover componentry from the previous version still on the PC when the new version tries to install, the version mismatch could cause trouble with the new service starting. That could then roll back the attempted install.
There's a bunch of different stuff on 64-bit systems for BonJour (there's both 64-bit and 32-bit componentry stashed on a 64-bit system. We'll also try a cleaner version of an uninstall than the Apple instructions provide.
In Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your program files are installed on).
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "BonJour" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into your C drive (or whichever drive your program files are installed on).
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "BonJour" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
Right-click on the dnssd.dll and dns-sd.exe files (if they still exist), and select "Delete".
Go back into the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the dnssd.dll and dns-sd.exe files (if they still exist), and select "Delete".
    Empty your recycle bin.
Restart the PC and try another BonJour install. Any better luck restarting the service this time?

I have recently bought a new laptop with windows 7 and when i have tried to install and open itunes i keep getting the message 'itunes has stopped working' itunes then shuts down before i can do anything to fix it. This happens every time I try to open itunes. I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it, starting itunes in safe mode. Nothing seems to work. Please can anyone help.

  • Crystal Ent 10 install fails with Error 1920 and services won't start

apologies if i'm posting to the wrong group.  just let me know what the appropriate group is and i'll be happy to post there.  i'm new to Crystal and this is my first installation of Ent so i'm completely lost, but here's my problem.
i'm trying to install Crystal Reports 10 and Enterprise 10 on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 server logged in as Local Admin and running the install locally (as opposed from a network location).  i have IIS installed and .Net Framework 2.0 installed as per my software vendor's requirements.
the Reports 10 install goes fine, but when i near the end of the Enterprise 10 install, each of the services fails to start.  the message for each is a pop-up that states Error 1920. Service 'Crystal Cache Server' (CasheServer) fiailed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the system services.  i clicked Retry on the 1st one (Crystal Cache Server) but it still fails to start.  so i clicked Ignore on all of them so i can get past each one and check the Services window to see what account they are running under - it's Local System account as i'd expect.  At the end of the install, i'm asked if i want to logon to the CMS and i chose No since i'm not familiar with Crystal at all but figured it's not going to work since the services wouldn't start.
i can't start them from the Services window or from the Crystal Configuration Manager - i get a message stating it failed to start in a timely fashion.
my co-worker and i noticed that after the install, and the MSDE install that CE does, there are the CE10.mdf and CE10.ldf files but it doesn't create 4 tables that expect to see when comparing this to our Test environment that our consultants set up.  we think this is at the heart of it, but we simply don't know.  can anyone help?

The appropriate group for this type of question is the Business Objects Enterprise Administration forums; I will move your post there today, in the future you can post to that forum.

  • Problem: Burned DVD won't start at menu, starts half way through first video

    Hi,
My problem is that after burning my DVD, it won't start at the menu when I insert it in the computer. I get the beachball spinning for a few seconds and then it comes up about a third of the way into the first video. The image is distorted in 4:3 and then it rightens itself.
I have first play set at the menu. Everything tests ok in the build and preview mode. Can anyone help me fix this?
I am so upset because I had successfully burned this DVDs and sent them to the client after testing. The client emailed today to say both DVDs were smashed in the mail and could I please re-burn them. I'm supposed to deliver again at 9 am tomorrow.
    Thanks
    Carolyn

Most of us have been in some of the same spots, and with the courier banging on the door, to deliver the final product to the client.
Though you say that you do not do authoring often, it is good to see that you are trying to do all the testing necessary, so that your client gets the best possible product. That is very important, and it shows that you take this seriously. All the more reason to try and help.
Good luck, and do not let the postman mangle the Project this time...

  • Sent a picture to someone yesterday. status is stll "sending". Can I delete this. It seems to be locked up. I can't even get a failed message error. It is just out there in space.

how do I delete a  sent message that won't complete the transmission. It has been "sending message" for 24 hrs. I can't even get a failed to transmit error. I can't delete it like I would delete a sent message because it won't show up in my messages until it completes the transmission or I get a message of failed transmission.

    Hey there,
If I understand correctly, at the moment your messages application seems to be unresponsive and you cannot send any messages, and this started after trying to send an image to someone else. I would start by quitting not just Messages but all the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again by trying to send the image one more time:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • DVD DL fail to burn AND Firewire 400/800 problems

I have had several months of intermittent DVD burn fails. Most recently today burning from the finder and it is now reporting "The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
That error is new, previously it was always
    Sense Key - Hardware Error
    Sense Code - 0x03
The first time this cropped up was on 10.5.x and when I reported it to apple they had me take it to get the drive replaced since it was still covered by applecare.
After the DVD replacement and while still in the shop it burned a few DVD DLs ok. A few weeks later the same 0x03 errors. (it always burns CDs just fine)
After another phone conversation with applecare, they now suggest that the logic board needs to be replaced. (This was after I mentioned I frequently have problems with Firewire 400 or 800 external drives showing up...sometimes they work sometimes they don't. The same drives always show up when connected via USB)
I was walked through resetting the PRAM, which cleared up the Firewire 400/800 temporarily, but it did not help the DVD burn problem.
So on the eve before the appointment, this crazy MBP (2,2, 2.33 ghz) burns a DVD DL after blowing compressed air thru the DVD slot. But the second DVD DL fails to burn with the ""The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
I was hoping that the upgrade to 10.6.x would solve both issues, but not so much.
Anyone else with the DVD DL problem experiencing FW problems?

The problems with some external FW burners under SL are fairly common, Robert. With some earlier drives (like my Pioneer 109 in an external box) often one can't even "see" the drive at all (though the bridge in the external box will show up under System Profiler) through FW, though it works fine under USB. With some later ones things like PRAM resets, or simply disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, will get them working. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10070281 or some discussion of these issues and possible "workarounds".
As far as the general disc burning issue goes, other things that are worth considering include problems with a "fullish" hard drive with fragmented free space, and the actual media being used. What brands of DVD have you tried?
DL discs, generally seem much more finicky about dust and dirt than single layer when it comes to burning (and , of course, need much more free HD space) . Will it burn a single layer DVD or a CD without problems?
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Internal and LaCie Drives Fail to Burn

    Ok here's the situation:
Problem #1 -- All of my burn drives have committed massive, bloody, catastrophic suicide. My internal "died" literally days after the warranty expired (I did not get AppleCare). It's still there and it recognizes when I put CDs and DVDs into it; I can hear it spin at start up and it spins when something is in there. It simply won't PLAY or BURN anything, I don't know why. I get all sorts of interesting "fail" messages, including the laser can't be calibrated and the device was removed. Usually it initalizes and then seconds later says burn completed, ejecting the disc which hasn't been written. Apple offered to fix it by installing a new one for $500+; I declined and instead purchased a LaCie external drive...
Problem #2 -- which used to work just fine. It was a little tempermental but with minor tweaking I was able to burn in iTunes, Roxio Toast (which now has decided to start crashing every time I do a drag-and-drop), Finder, etc. Now the LaCie doesn't want to work either. Sometimes the drive will mount, sometimes it won't. Even when it does mount, it isn't working properly. Sometimes I'll get the same device removed message as I do with the internal, other times it just squeaks at me. No, nothing has been dropped, banged, drowned, etc. I've run EVERYTHING on both drives -- Disk Utility, permissions corrections (even though there were no problems with any iTunes files), turning off CD text, dealing with the weird language bug in the International System Preferences, Burn Patch, setting burn speed to 4x instead of best possible, battery out for 15 minutes and restart, compressed air, etc... nada. Which leads to...
Problem #3 -- the next problem. If I can't burn CDs/DVDs, I won't die. It's an annoying, inconvenient and expensive problem, but I'll survive. I can just use my old iPod... oh, right, that just died, too. Unfortunately, along with the lovely MacBook and LaCie, I've also purchased iLife '08, Mac OS X 10.5.1, and a 200 GB Time Capsule. Of course, all of these require a functioning CD/DVD drive to install, and without one I have a lot of useless and rather expensive crap. On to...
Problem #4 -- the final issue. I have 2 512 MB memory cards in the laptop. According to my System Profiler, I have 1.69 GB left on my hard drive and the computer keeps yelling at me that I don't have enough space left on my start up. I know this. I also know that I want to keep my files, which is why I bought the Time Capsule in the first place. I haven't done ANY backups and really need it in place, both so I can free up space on the hard drive and also so I don't lose everything with the inevitable epic fail. Again, I can't install the Time Capsule without a working CD/DVD drive, so this brings us full circle to problem #1.
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Apple found a nice way of telling me where to go (and how it really is too bad that I didn't get AppleCare) and LaCie says ask Apple, so... I'm in great shape.
    Specs:
    MacBook
    OS X 10.4.11
LaCie d2 DL DVD+-RW with LightScribe
    Matshita CD-RW CW-8221
    iTunes 7.7.1 (11)

I've freed up a ton of space by deleting a bunch of things I didn't want to, in case that was the problem. Now my LaCie is showing up as Read Only, which it NEVER was before.

  • DVDs failing to burn

    Hello all,
I want to say first that I'm not an inexperienced mac OS X user. Been using it for some time and I'm usually good at figuring out problems.  I am a video editor, so burning DVDs and making DVDs is something I do very often.
The issue I'm having is my computer is simply refusing to make any DVDs.  I have absolutely no clue why it is doing this or what caused it.  It is even failing to create a .dmg of the DVD I make.  I have tried Compressor and Burn to create DVDs.  I have never had issues with either in the past.
I am posting this in this section because my suspicion is maybe it is a corrupt DVD burn driver?
Any help on maybe how to fix this would be wonderful.  I have already repaired disk permissions with disk utility, and no luck.

    Hello phudgedesign
Welcome to apple discussions. It's only necessary to post the first and last 20 lines of the error report. So for future reference please avoid posting the entire report to this iDvd forum.
My guess after reading the above report is that you may be having issues with at least one (and possibly multiple) external device/s currently connected to your mac. Can you tell us more about any 3rd party external devices you may have connected to this mac? How did you connect them? Were they formatted properly for your computer? We'll also need to know if you are using firewire connections and cables or any USB2 devices and cables (or both).
How much available HDD space is remaining on the boot volume? Are any of iDvd's assets located on external devices (yes /no)? If so, have you tried moving these assets recently? That is have you made them available to iDvd from the boot volume and thereafter properly ejecting and unplugging any 3rd party devices that may be conflicting with the app?

  • How many times you can repeat a failed delta?

Hi, Expert, I am facing with an failed delta that loads data from a DSO to another. I have repeated the delta 4 times. The first two times, it failed with deadlock, the 3rd time, it failed with out of internal memory issue and now I am getting 6 system core dumped. Just wondering, if there is limit that one can repeat a failed delta? If anyone have any idea about what need to be done on system core dumps, it will be greatly appreciated.
    Chimei Shea

    HI, every one,
Glad that I am able to answer my own questions.
    1. Yes, you can repeat a delta multiple times without damaging the delta queue. (need to change QM status to red before delete the request and then repeat the delta by either running the infopackage manually or repeat the failed infopackage in a process chain)
    2. The memory/deadlock/system core dump issues may be fixed by decreasing MAXLINE parameter in ROIDOCPRMS through SBIW. I don't know exactly what MAXLINE is used for but I have a guess that MAXLINE controls how often a data package commit to the database. My issue was that in the start routine of an update rule, for every record from the source, it generates 13 records so it increases the size of a data package 13 times and causes the various dumps. By decreasing MAXLINE only and even each data package still generates half million records, the data load didn't fail.

  • Can't get past PMU, can't even get to a grey screen

I have a Power Mac G4 Sawtooth. I recently upgraded to a Mac Pro and transferred all my data from the G4. Have 2 drives in the G4 and had some problems using Migration Assistant (wouldn't see primary drive, only secondary drive.) I read that having the drives set to cable select was the problem so I opened up the G4 and unplugged the secondary drive and set the jumper cable on the primary drive to master and this worked.
After transferring my data, I set the drives from my G4 back to their original jumper settings, and with the door open, powered up the G4. Everything worked fine. So I screwed the drive tray back into place and closed the door. Went to power on, got power, but this time only a black screen on my monitor. Can't even get to a grey screen.
I've tried everything, including testing the battery (it was fine) and going the through the steps of pressing the PMU button. I've also tested the monitor and the monitor cable. Tried re-seating the RAM, too. I'm not hearing any sound from the hard drive and I can't even get the computer to startup from G4 DVD. My understanding is that after power up, everything goes through the PMU. It then releases and says startup the keyboard, monitor, hard drive, etc. If this is wrong, let me know. So if I can't get past the PMU, does this mean my motherboard is fried?
    -Daryl

    Hi, Daryl -
If you moved the G4 around to make room for the new machine, that could have jarred the processor loose. It's not unusual for that to happen to an older machine, though it usually happens to RAM or cables, not to the processor.
Years of heating and cooling can loosen a connection and cause some oxidation of the contacts; subsequent moving of the machine, coupled with just a bit of thumping or torquing of the chassis, can cause the connection to fail. Reseating the connection not only makes it secure again, it usually wipes the oxidation off of the contacts.
