Can't get album art from iTunes.
Ok, so we have the ability to get album artwork. I presume that iTunes contacts iTMS and searches for artwork. I have an album that is also on iTMS and I want to get the artwork. I click on get album artwork and then nothing. It is a soundtrack, so I am typing exactly what it says on iTMS and zippo, nada. Fetch art doesn't work for poop and synergy can't find the artwork either. Is there some way to directly get the artwork from iTMS, save it either to desktop or to iTunes?
Do you have an account with the iTunes store? If you do, are you signed in to your account? Those might be the reasons why you can't download artworks.

Getting album art from iTunes Store...
I have an extensive music library on an external HD, but most songs are/were in 'wma' format. On loading iTunes, it spent 36 hours converting these to AAC (m4a) format, but it didn't bring the album art over. Now I have a perfect music collection, doubled in size, which I can view in Windows Media Player (with all the album art) or in iTunes (without any album art).
Unfortunately, we who live in South Africa are not allowed to download album art from the iTunes Store, so I cannot restore the artwork...and every time I try to access the Store from inside iTunes, it bombs out - but I can access the iTunes site on any normal web browser (usually Mozilla).
So what now???Sorry, but as you've discovered, you cannot get album art from the iTunes Store without an account, and being a South African resident, there's no way for you to open an account. There are, however, many other ways of getting album art. Just search the web for something like "iTunes album art" and you should find a number of utilities, suggestions for sources and instructions on how to proceed.

I've already copied songs from my itunes library to my ipod, but when I did that I didn't have any album art. Now that I've got the album art in itunes, what's the best way to get the album art over to my ipdod?

ksCDs don't contain artwork, if you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is Amazon, you can check out their stores worldwide. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, save the picture to your desktop and drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag -
Getting album art from itunes library to ipod WITHOUT re-syncing?
Okay, so...I've got album art for almost everything in my libraries thanks to the "get album artwork" feature and some lengthy searching and pasting on my part...but it appears as though there's no easy way to get all the artwork from the songs in my itunes library onto the same songs on my ipod--without syncing, that is.
That is a huge pain in the ***, and something I really don't want to do. I have a bunch of stuff on my ipod that I don't want to put in my main library (I have two computers that have different things in each of the libraries) and that I don't want to lose, which I would if I did a "sync."
I have about 25 gb of stuff, which would mean that even if I did want to add it back into my main library, it would take a **** of a long time to figure out exactly what I'm missing, move it over and then do the sync.
I realize that this is probably related to the idea that if you have stuff on your ipod that isn't in your library you probably ripped it off. BUT...this seems to be a pretty big flaw. Not hugely important, but annoying all the same.
Why isn't there an easy way just to sync up album art directly onto an ipod (vs. the itunes library) without stripping every song off my ipod first?
Any ideas/programs that people know of that can get around this issue?This is really frustrating... I can't believe that now all my album art (and I mean ALL of them) doesn't show in mi iPod anymore...
What I did was uncheck the show art combo box, de-sync the iPod and then re-sync, then check the box again and then de-sync... It didn't work.
Is not use. I guess I'm gonna go back to my old iTunes 6, it worked better than this odd version.
As I said before, I think the look doesn't matter, it can have stars intead of circles and it can have whatever you want, but what I want is something that -WORKS- even if it looks like Windows 3.1...

I have chosen to manage music manually since there are four ipods that use the same computer in my home. I recently upgaded to itunes 7 and got my album art updated but can't figure out how to get it to the ipod without syncing the whole thing. Thanks for your help!
Well there is a setting to "manage music manually" so that the sync doesn't happen automatically. That way my wife doesn't have to get the stuff I put on the system, etc. I have to drag and drop new stuff onto my iPod after I rip it into iTunes.
I'd give in and allow the autosync but I have a number of CD's that for some reason iTunes can't "find" even though they're already on the iPod. itunes tells me that if I do the sync the iPod will be erased and rewritten and I'm worried about losing those tunes.

Well, you don't have to do it individually -- you can select all the songs for which you want to delete, right-click and select "Get Info", then check the Artwork box, then click OK. This will delete all the artwork for those songs (permanently!)

I have a script to do just that. You have to download it first (say, to your Desktop)

Then you have to run it using the Command Prompt:
1) Bring up a command prompt (Start..All Programs..Accessories..Command Prompt)
2) Enter these commands:<pre>cd Desktop
cscript itunesinsertartwork.vbs</pre>
3) Select the playlist (or select the whole Library with "1") which contains the songs for which you want to embed the artwork.
NOTE:Embedding artwork will cause your files to take up more hard drive space because for downloaded artwork iTunes only needs one copy. Embedding the artwork makes a copy of the artwork for every song with that artwork. Artwork files from the iTMS are typically 400-500 KB each. -
IPhone album art from iTunes not downloading
Recently, I have not been able to get my album art from iTunes to download to my phone. It appears in my iTunes on my computer, but will not transfer. It also will not appear on my phone when I purchase the music FROM my phone, but appears in my computer's iTunes. I've reset my phone, but the problem continues. This problem has only been happening for about the last two months and I've had my phone over a year. (iPhone 4, Verizon)
the album covers are fine on itunes on my computer, but on my iphone they don't work. as in, when I sync my iphone to itunes, it switches the covers around to different covers. it seems to be random.

Your question/statement makes no sense.
"Unable to download purchased audiobook. The book says it was downloaded" What book is saying this? Is the audiobook talking to you?
"Can't get to spot from iTunes to insert password" This makes no sense to me either.
If you are trying to download a previously purchased audiobook, you can't do that. You get one download of an Audiobook and then you must purchase it again if you delete it or do not have it in your iTunes library to sync back to the iPd.
If you can't find the audiobook, look in the More Tab of the Music App. -

The only supported method to get media onto an iDevice is via iTunes. Read the User's Guide it will describe how to do this in detail.
iCloud does not put media on the device, but using iTunes Match and iCloud it is possible to have access to all media that exists on your computer, but only when the device has Internet access. It will not load media onto the device.
Use of 3rd party tools to transfer files to the device is not supported. -

There are a couple of iOS Backup Extractor programs that can read data from the backup sets. I've not personally tested any so I don't have a recommendation.

My entire music collection was recently deleted on accident. It was my fault (and partially my external harddrive's ridiculously touchy USB cord's fault), but anyways I was able to use an undelete software to get the files back. Some are gone, some are somehow warped into each other, e.g., a folk song, audio-wise, is now replaced with half of a death metal song. I'm trying to fix all that up right now, but my problem is that I can only see album art in the main part of iTunes, right next to the song titles displayed. iTunes refuses to display the art in the bottom left-hand corner, where I think it usually shows what the cursor is locked on at a given time. I'm sorry for not elaborating a sentence or two back, I've also lost about half of my album art in iTunes, so that's why I'm adding it back.
The weird thing is, album art that was retained after the deletion fiasco does show up in both areas. It's just album art that I add right now that doesn't work. And it can't just be because the files are corrupted or something, because they are editable and play fine, and the same thing happened with a file I just redownloaded and then imported. That file should be perfectly OK.
Can anyone tell me if there's a reason for album art to not display in the bottom left-hand corner of iTunes while I have certain files selected?

p.s. one more thing, it's not like the Currently Selected box in that corner is hidden, it's in plain view which is why the blank space is so bothersome.I am having a similar problem - my iPod Touch (2nd gen., 32GB, iOS 4.1) was recognized by iTunes on my 24" iMac (Intel, Late 2006) after I had updated it about 1-2 weeks ago (Software Update) to 10.2.2 (the iMac has OS X 10.5.8 on it). I had to take my iMac to a local WiFi spot to do the updating, because I don't have Internet at home currently (can't find anyone who provides just affordable DSL if you don't have your landline via AT&T).
Today I went to sync my iPod Touch with the iMac (I had updated some apps and bought one new one using the iPT through local WiFi spot). However, iTunes did not see ANY devices at all(!). I tried connecting the iPod Touch first, restarting iTunes and then re-connecting the iPT - nothing helps. The iPod screen turns on just like when charging, but no sign of syncing.
I'm wondering how applicable the article that you listed would be, or is there a comparable article for iPod Touches with 10.5.8? (I'm getting very fed up with what seems to be the standard Apple partyline of "Just buy a new iPod/Mac/get new software....blah, blah, blah" -Apple, what about those of us who consider it wasteful and unnecessary to buy new hardware or software every few years, just to get a helpful and NON-condescending reply from your support people? How can I determine what metadata will get specific album art from the iTunes Store?
e.g., I have some tracks with correct metadata for the album "International Herb" by the band "Culture". This album is listed under the same artist & title in the iTunes Store, but getting the album art for these tracks results in an Artwork for "Culture - International Herb" could not be found warning message.
Alternatively, is there some function where I can apply the album art for the album that I am currently viewing in the iTunes Store to tracks selected in iTunes? (if this feature doesn't exist, it would be great if Apple added it)
Thanks.I always thought it was just Artist + Album, but if the tracks are out of order or the durations are too different, it is possible that it is seeing it as a different version = no match.
It will be faster to find the image from another source (thanks web search) and just drag or paste it into the Album Info panel.
