I can't get Mail to stay as default e-mail program. It keeps switching back to Eudora even though I change it in General Mail Preferences. How do I get it to stick? It keeps switching back to Eudora which I used for 15 years, but now am using Mail for the last month

I continue to have the problem, so the only solution that I could think of was to delete the Eudora ap. Since all the Eudora mailboxes are text files (including the address book), I will open them as text files when I need to access some info.

I couldn't figure it out, so I just deleted the Eudora application from my hard disk. Then I used a great program called Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to transfer my Eudora mailboxes to Apple Mail. It's working out well.

How do I restore my iphoto from external time machine if it isn't appearing when I go back to other dates? I can open the old library when I hold option, but it can't get it to stay.

In general you launch Time machine and go back in time to the time you want - select the iPhoto library (by default in your pictures folder) and click restore

Go to Settings>Mail>Gmail>>Advanced. Do you have an an item for Deleted Messages Remove? What options are available.?
Also in Settings>Mail>Gmail does the Host Name for incoming server have a POP in it?

1. Can you open your account via OWA?
2. Can you configure your account on other user's computer?
Try disabling any 3rd-party firewall or AV programs, make sure no proxy applictions or settings.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

They should you if you do the roll back properly... Opening files from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in Windows Explorer simply opens the current library. If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't give your copied and renamed file the extention or iTunes will create an empty library rather than using the renamed file.
If you had a complete pre-problem backup of your library you could restore that. On the assumption that isn't possible I have a script called ExportImport that could in principle be adjusted to save the relevant data from a backup of the library database and then reimport that data into the current library. And, you are sure you have provided the correct username and password for you email account? I'm not familiar with Virgin media, so you might contact their tech support to find out why you are having a problem sending mail but none receiving mail. I assume your mail account has always been POP3 and not IMAP. Typically, the outgoing mail servers are not the same for the different types of account service.

Thanks for the flag J.K. - they contaced me and solved my problem. On this account (which I created just to ask this question), I log in with my email rather than my user name (mtalldud). On the account that I was having trouble with, they told me to use my user ID instead of my email to log in and it worked. This is a bit confusing and seems a bit inconsistent but at least I don't need this temporary account any more to get into this community and find answers!

It sounds like you would like to send a text from your phone number on your portable computer. You can do this by setting iMessage to start new conversations from your phone number in the Messages settings:
On OS X, find out which addresses are enabled:
In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences > Accounts.

Can't get rid of account icon photo in mail header area

How can I get rid of the thumbnail photo icon in the mail header area when I send an e-mail in Mail?
It is one of the supplied icons that is in system preferences for "accounts", to distinguish my account from my wife's on our iMac G5 (10.4.10). I recently only selected this icon....the boxer dog....but there was nothing in that area before when I used the generic sillohuete as my account log-in identifier.
Basically, I don't want to be sending e-mails with a dog's photo....as much as I like dogs.
I have read how to ADD a custom photo in .Mac preferences/profile but, I didn't see how to get rid of one and I did not consciously choose to add the photo that is there now.....it just appeared after I changed it in System Preferences/Accounts. I understand that it might appear in iChat, but, I am not/wasn't using iChat.

Those photos don't actually get sent. They are a "feature" of Mail. You probably have a "Me" card in your address book? Get rid of the picture there, and it should get rid of the picture in the header region of your emails as displayed in Mail.app. But, like I said, those don't actually get sent, anyways. Got Windoze at work? Send an email to yourself at your work email address -- you'll see -- no boxer dog. But, please pay a visit to http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ and let them know what you think of this feature.

How can I get a static checkbox to default to ticked?

I have a checkbox on a form that I want to default to TICKED. I then need to check the value of the checkbox before deciding upon whether or not to do some processing (not if the checkbox is UNTICKED).
I have tried with the following values:
Default Value Type: Static Text with Session State Substitutions
Named LOV: - Select Named LOV -
Display Null: No
List of values definition: STATIC :;Y
My checkbox is always defaulting to UNTICKED. How can I get it to default to TICKED?
This is only my second week with APEX, so excuse me if I'm missing the obvious.

Can't get a hot-key assigned to a Mail submenu

This is in 10.5.2. by the way...
I have a sub-menu of Get New Mail called "Gmail" where I fetch email from (you guessed it) my Gmail account.
In the keyboard shortcut panel I can't assign a key to this. Anything I set in the panel doesn't show up in the Mail sub-menu. I have tried restarting Mail after making the setting in the keyboard panel, but that doesn't help.
Is this possible?

I have that same SSD that I've tried for the last 18 hours to get Lion installed via Network Recovery. In various spots along the download, it will error out and say "could not download all..." -- forget the rest of the sentence off the top of my head. But it basically says it can't finish downloading Lion. I currently have it on the 6th attempt after trying the partition resize trick as well as deleting and reformatting the drive too. So far I can't get the Lion download to actually finish.
Also, the download for Lion is incredibly slow, and it's not a network connection issue. I've tried on 3 separate ISPs with a connection speed of no less than 12 Mbps and the fastest time I've seen for a completed download based on the figure within Network Recovery is 9 hours.
I remember using Network Recovery on my mid-2011 Air to try out the (at the time) new feature and it downloaded Lion in ~3 hours max. Not sure why it's now 10+ hours for the same file I downloaded in July.

How can I make AOL Desktop software my default e-mail when trying to connect from a a web site on Firefox?

When I click on a link on a website meant for e-mailing--using Windows 7 I no longer have the option of sending it through my AOL Desktop software as I used to in Windows XP. Is there an option in Firefox that will allow me to use the AOL Desktop software as my default e-mail program?

This didn't work. There is no option provided in Firefox for AOL--no add on either. And windows 7 does not let you use a browser based e-mail--even you change the registry--it will bring you to the AOL browser but won't open a "write" e-mail box and enter the name of the recipient automatically as it did in Windows XP by changing the option in internet options...someone must have a way of doing this...
