Can't get rid of POP account

I have an email account that I am moving from one computer to a new one.
It was configured as  a POP account, and foolishly I configured it the same way again, on my new Yosemite machine, in Apple Mail.
I realized it would be better as an IMAP account though, so I trashed it in both Mail>Preferences>Accounts, and in System Preferences>Internet Accounts.
It stubbornly insists on setting itself up as a POP account again whenever I put in my email address again - it just automatically fills everything in that I once had, using POP with no choice for IMAP.
I have even contacted the ISP to create another account for me with a different name, but when I enter those credentials in a new account, it again defaults to POP (all the settings are filled in) and I can't change it.
Where are these settings lurking?  I need to get rid of them to make it an IMAP account.  I checked on their website and the IMAP settings are there, so it is possible.

    I don't know if I can help you with what's been recorded but may be able to assist in getting rid of the problem.
    1. Don't know if the MOTU has a reset procedure on the rack unit, if so, do that first.
    2. Turn off/disable wireless if you're using it.
    3. In Logic raise the I/O buffers to 128
    4. If you have a different slot, move the 424 card. One slot was noisy on many Macs.
    (5) As mentioned, Make sure the audio interface is using Internal clock.

    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If you added here account to the Mail application on your Mac and would like to now delete it just from there, you may find the following article helpful (it is aimed at Yosemite, but the steps should apply to Mountain Lion as well):
    Remove an account
    When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example). 
    Important:    If you’re unsure whether messages you want to keep are still on the mail server, move or copy them into a mailbox stored on your Mac (the mailbox appears in the On my Mac section in the Mail sidebar) before you delete the account in Mail. 
    Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
    Select an account, then click Remove .

    I was recently asked for a password for an email on the App store. The email was very old and was one that was hacked so I removed it from my email list. Now I have no record of the account, its password or security questions, and obviously I can't receive email on the account. How can I eliminate this account.     Email size limits are imposed by mail providers, not the operating system.  They usually vary in the 20-25 MB range.
    The limit is for an individual email plus any attachments it may have.  The only way to release that email message is to reduce the size of the attachment if you can do so.  The limitation itself is from your email provider so there isn't anything you can do to change the limit.

    Hi,
    I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I'm not sure what is going on, however, whenever I search something in google, the results will come up, and then about 2 seconds later, other random text and links will appear. The most annoying part though is that whenever I click on ANYTHING, whether it be a link or a field to fill in, it takes me to various "mac cleaner" websites. I haven't downloaded any of those sites, yet it's started happening in the last day and appears to be getting worse. There are also random ads appearing on every website I go to, that never appeared before. For example, at the google home page, there are now random ads all over the bottom of it.
    I have tried to manage my cookies and pop ups, I've deleted chrome and reinstalled it again, I have restarted my computer, nothing seems to be helping! I've tried all three of my web browsers - safari, chrome and firefox, and they all do the same thing. I am at a standstill!
    Can someone please guide me in the right direction? It would be greatly appreciated as I use my computer for work and this is inhibiting my ability to use it!!!

    When I first got my Mac I had no trouble going to sites and no pop up ads. My pop up blocker is on and I can't go to sites without pop up ads from other places showing me where to get items from or advertising and a little place pops up when it is underlined a word for ads.     You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
    Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Repeat with each of these lines:

    This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
    You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    There is no way to bypass activation lock. Only the owner of the account it's locked with can remove the lock.

    I downloaded a demo of NTFS for Mac By Paragon Software. After the demo expired I keep getting a pop-up after I login. I uninstalled the program but still get the pop-up letting me know the demo expired. I have no idea where it is hidden on my computer. I have not been able to find it using spotlight or finder.     Got a new i-Mac and transferred (via fire wire) all my old stuff from my old iMac (the really old one with the little igloo under the screen). There were two accounts on my old iMac, now they show up on my new one. I'd like to consolidate and just have one. Anyone know how?

    System Preferences > Accounts when logged is as an admin.
    BTW, it's a little safer to use two accounts if you are at all error-prone.  A standard (non-admin) account for daily use, and an admin account for when you need it.

    As of a few days ago, almost every web site I visit, after the page opens, another screen opens with firefox asking to allow another site to open. It is an ad of some sort as I have opened 1 or 2 to check them out. I've been on a site with a catalog with multiply pages to go thru and every time I hit the next page, another pop up. I've checked off the options box to stop pop up's, but that doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Try a soft-reset and see if it works after your phone has restarted (it seems ot have fixed the error for a number of people on here) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.
