Can't import or capture video

Newbie question…
When I try to File.. Import.. Movies.. nothing happens.
When I try to File.. Import From Camera.. I get a very quick error message that reads "No Writable Volumes: You must have a writable disk in order to capture video"
When I click on the camera icon (left middle) whose tooltip reads "Open Camera Import Window" the screen comes up and I can see myself; however it has no option for where to "Save to". When I click Capture, the error message reads "Can't Create Event: The import was canceled. You may not have permission to write to (null)."
Thanks very much for any help.

The DVC-80 is a USB device. Premiere only captures via FireWire.
Which video
codec is used inside your .avi files? (You can check with
GSpot
.) If it is any kind of MPEG codec then the tryout version of Premiere won't play it.

You can't, natively with the iPhone. The photo sync is one way: computer to phone. To do what you want requires third-party software, like this:

How can i import songs or videos from my iPod to my computer?
iTune doesn't seem to be able to get this done...

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. They will all transfer songs but if I recall, only iPodCopy also does videos.

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

  • I can't import and view videos from a camera.

I can't import and view videos from a camera.  Even if I open the file and copy the .avi files onto the hard drive.  I have tried iMovie, Quicktime, and Flip player.  Flip player will open it but I only get the audio,  Quicktime freezes, and iPhoto tries to automatically import only to then error saying the files are not compatible.

    Hello Hese,
    try the following:
    1. delete preferences (com.apple.iMovie.plist) and empty the trash
    2. repair disc permissions with Disc Utility and reboot your mac
    3. use Diskwarrior or MacJanitor for disc clean-up
    4. disconnect any other firewire devices
    5. take off any non-system desktop pictures
If nothing else helps, you might want to consider resetting your Firewire port(s)

  • HT204053 sir; i can't import song and videos from pc to my iphone pls help me

sir; i can't import song and videos from pc to my iphone pls help me

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - if you would like help then you will need to provide more information than 'can't import' e.g. how are trying to sync content and what happens when you do it ?
You have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer, and your phone appears in it when it's connected to your computer ? If not then see if this troubleshooting page helps : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
You should be able to sync music and films/TV programmes by selecting your phone on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via control-S on a PC) and then using the tabs on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync your content
Is that how you are trying to do it and it's not working ?
If you haven't synced your phone to that computer before then you may also find this page useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Can't import ESP mode Video into iMovie...

I can't import video recorded in ESP mode into iMovie or Final Cut. Is there some trick to it, or am I kinda screwed?? PLease help me if you can..

If your camera has analog inputs, then yes. Unfortunately, today that's a big "if" as most cameras only has analog OUTputs (to play on a TV).

  • Can my iSight camera capture video?

there must be an easy way to do this, but can't seem to figure it out...I want to capture video using the iSight camera on my iMac.
Which application do I use to do this...example of what I'm trying to do:
I'd like to record a video of my playing my guitar.
How do I enable the camera to capture the video?
    Thanks!!

Well I am replying to this thread because there is not, as far as I can see, a way to post a new thread. In any case, I have connected many times with a friend in Japan via Skype and using video with iSight. Without any changes, at least that I can remember, using Skype on both my laptop and desktop computers, neither sees my iSight camera now. Both used to see the iSight camera. I see the camera's light come on when I plug it in, but no connection. Anyone have an idea about why this is happening?

  • Can't import mts/HD video to imovie 09

    Hi,
I have the Sony HDR-TG5V & have successfully imported mpg/SD videos to imovie but haven't been able to import mts/HD videos. I've tried deleting the SD from my video camera but it still doesn't recognize the mts/HD videos. For some reason the SD videos keep popping up even though I've deleted them from the camera. Please help!

Yes the ffmpeg solutions seems to work and I was very happy with this at first beceause this also eliminates re-encoding whole video clips again.
BUT! I do have serious performance issues inside iMovie '09 with these newly created M4V files. Once imported skimming through them goes extremely slow. An I mean extreeemely slowww... So I'm unable to use them. When I choose the optimize setting and let iMovie convert the file to Quicktime after all, optimizing also takes a very large amount of time. A 30 seconds clip took me about an hour to import/optimize and I don't have this issue when importing from camera. Once imported and optimized in Quicktime the clip works perfect just like any other clip but it's gonna tame me a tremendous amount of time to do this with the large amount of MTS files I have (incorrectly) saved on an external hard drive.
There must be some sort of solution to wrap up the MTS files in a native AVCHD folder structure so that iMovie will import them? And I mean a solution without re-encoding them to MPEG4 or whatsoever beceause that would be costing me too much time as well.
Any other tips? Maybe writing the files back to the camcorder but unfortunately Canon only supplies Windows software for doing that. Anyone had experience with that?

  • How can I import iphone 4 videos to iMovie 09?

I tried different ways to import my videos from iphone 4 (.mov) to iMovie 09 but I had no success. I transfer the video to my iMac using image capture, then try to import the video to iMovie, but seems iMovie does not recognize the video format .mov from the iphone 4. Can anyone tell me how can I do this?
Thanks a lot for the help

I have no problems with iphone 4 video, have you edited it on the phone or anything.

  • Can't seem to capture video clip

I just upgraded from Final Cut Express HD to Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD. I'm using a Sony DCR-TRV320 as the pass thru between my VCR and my Mac. Using Final Cut Express, I have no problem capturing my video. But in FCP, I can view the video on my screen until I click Capture Now. The screen for that is black. The only message I see is 'Waiting for Timeline'. Do I need to do things differently in FCP than FCE?

Is it possible the error message is "waiting for time
    code"?
What are you capturing from. If it's a non time code
source (EG. VHS) you'll have to switch to
"non-controlable device" in FCP Device Control
    Presets.
    rh
Yeah, I meant to say time code. Thanks, I just tried it while I was in a hurry and didn't even remember that I had not gone into the preferences.

  • Imovie will not import the whole video, only a portion. How can I import the entire video?

I am new Imovie user and I am having some difficulty importing video from my desktop. The whole video is on my desktop, but when I try to import it in imovie, only a few minutes of the video imports. How can I fix this issue?

    Hi
    A. How much free space is there on Your - Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard disk ?
The movie in Your Camera / Stored on Your Mac (from Camera) - is very Compressed.
For iMovie (or FinalCut) it has to be in an Editable format - and this is massively LARGER
I've movies on 500Mb when un-folder are 50Gb or even more.
    B. Is there other external Hard Disks connected ?
How are it / they formatted - HAS TO BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) to work for VIDEO
UNIX / DOS / FAT32 / Mac OS Exchange - Works for most other things but not for VIDEO

  • Can't import QT compatibile videos into iTunes 6

Here is what it says about importing video into iTunes 6 in the Help menu:
You can also watch other QuickTime-compatible videos (for example, files that end in ".mov" or ".mp4") in iTunes. Drag a video into the iTunes window, as you would any song file. Videos have a display icon next to them in the library.
I have tried everything to get a .mov and a .mp4 movie into iTunes and I can't make it happen. Anyone have any luck with this?
    Dave

I assume these files play fine in QuickTime?
Have you tried Add to Library from the File menu (Command O).
If that doesn't work, try a Save As from QT. You should then be able to import the new file fine.
I did notice that changing the extension (from .mov to .mp4 in my case) rendered the video un-importable. You don't get any feedback from iTunes either - it just doesn't work.
    Good luck!

  • Can I Import H.264 Video Without it Looking Like Garbage?

I realize that FCE is made for DV, but I've got some nice footage (shot in BetaSP and digitized in a pro edit facility) that I want to import. The original looks really great, but whenever I import into FCE or transcode to DV using QT Pro, the footage degrades so badly that I can't believe it - it's truly not usable.
My clips are currently in .mov files in H.264 (720x405 res). I have to be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated!!

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert it to Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC or Apple Intermediate Codec. I did this recently and the results were very good.
