Can't Login to my User Account

First of all I apologise for posting this question in two forums but as my problem persists I think it's an account issue, rather than hardware. My problem started after the Mac "froze" after I had rebooted it. After a few minutes all I had was the spinning ball of death and I had no option than to force a shutdown by holding down the power button.
Now I cannot log on to my main account - the Mac has always automatically logged on. When I switch it on, all I get is a blue screen. I have followed all the help given in the support documents to resolve that problem but I still cannot log on.
I have an Admin account that I can log on to, and if I start in SAFE MODE this account seems to work fine. My problem is that all my documents, movies, music, photos etc. are in the library of my main account. If I try to log on to this account after starting in Safe Mode, I am returned to the login window.
Although the ADMIN account is set up to administer the computer it does not have access to the files of the main account - is this normal?
Naturally, I'd prefer to get the main account problem sorted out so that I can use it as normal but, if there is a way to set up a new account that has access to the main account's files & preferences I might be able to live with that. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments that might help?
Thanks in advance,
Cliff,
Brighton, UK

This problem was eventually diagnosed as an account problem and was resolved by carrying out an Install and Archive. The original operating system was installed and I was able to log on to my account. From this point I was able to upgrade from this to OSX 10.4.7.
I post these comments here in case anyone else suffers from the same problem and is looking for a solution.

  • How Can I Login To Multiple User Accounts Simultaneously

I am using an Intel iMac (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with 1GB of memory and 10.4.11. I have Fast User Switching enabled. I restart the Mac every morning. Then I login to a second user account. While at work, I access these accounts via VNC.
Sometimes I forget to login to the second user account. I do it from work via VNC, which sometimes causes complications.
Does OSX support simultaneous multiple user account login? If not, is there a work-around solution such as an AppleScript? This would provide a time savings to me, as well as a convenience if I forgot to login to the second user account before leaving home.
    Thank you.
    Kurt R. Todoroff

Seems to me, in another discussion, the simple Fast User Switching does not
do much really fast or automatically; there are a few faster steps than having
to log into each and every account change (even when FUS is enabled) so
this later development sounds a little more automatic, esp over a distance.
Is there a third party app or valid script that an do the multiple logins automatic
after the first-run; so passwords need not be re-entered, and the screen can just
switch over "fast" to another open account window, ready to go to work in there?
    {And not just a keyboard shortcut to save a few little steps, overall.}
    Whichever way the road turns...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can't login using  new user account created in SP01 PL01

I have a demo site which I have used for a while and just upgraded to SP01 PL01.
I created a new Business Partner and two users, assigned an email address and pre-assigned a web password before synch.
The accounts seem to be created properly yet I cannot log in using the email address as user and the password I specified
BP synch field is email address, Password alogorithm is Webtools User ID ( but irrelevant in this case as I specified the web password )
Active and Approved settings for the user in webtool make no difference.
I tried generating a forgotten password e-mail and this confirms the initial passwords I set but I still cannot log in as either of these users.
What could be wrong here ? - I clearly have the right credentials and other users created before can still log in correctly

BP was not set to Active. Many thanks.
I don't remember having to  the Active flag in WT for BP before - has the functionality on this been changed recently?
The Active flag in WT does not synch to any field in B1 right? so it is a step that HAS to be carried out for new accounts in WT alone?

  • Can not log into server computer with any accounts - "You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."

I have a Mac mini running the latest version of OS X and Server. Been running fine and flawlessly. However, I had a strange problem with the iCloud preferences panel crashing when I tried to access it, so I rebooted. Now I can not log into the system with any accounts. My master admin account (along with all the others) gives me the error:
You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I am able to see the server from other macs and I can log into it using the same account, but it only shows me a few of the shared folders I have access to but NOT to my main directories.
Rebooting into Command-R and doing a disk utility, I try and repair permission on that drive and get a bunch of errors like:
ACL found but not expected on Users
    Repaired "Users"
ACL found but not expected on Users/.localized
    Repaired "Users/.localized"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared
    Repaired "Users/shared"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared/.localized
    Repaired "Users/Shared/.localized"
    Permissions repair complete.
But rebooting is no joy...same problem. Any idea what is going on or how to repair it? Should I do a time machine restore? Complete new OS X install? Any idea what is causing this or how to salvage it?

Got everything to re-install and it worked fine...for a few hours. Then I came in to find ALL of my network users deleted. Just GONE. Then found out the Open Directory was trashed and was unable to open, recover or restore from a backup. Looks like I may have a bad drive here.
I installed a new drive in the system, re-installed and so far (for a couple of hours anyway) the system seems to be working and stable.

can you set up multiple user accounts on one laptop?

    Of course.
And instructions can depend on which OS X is installed.
For v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion: Create a new user account
For v10.8 Mountain Lion > OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account
When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.

  • Can I enable the root user account from the log in screen when I am locked out of the machine?

    Hello everyone,
I am working on my friends mac to get it ready to sell. I went into the advanced options of the user and changed the name of the account. That's all I changed. I did read the warning that said if anything was changed it could cause damage, that's why I only changed the name of the user account. I didn't want to mess with anything else. Well, needless to say, I am locked out of the machine. Apparently the root user, system administrator, account was not enabled and I am stuck at the screen that I can get to with my installation disc. So how can I enable the root user account and get back onto the machine from the screen I am at? Can I enable the root user from terminal? I spent a good 8 hours yesterday researching this topic and have come up empty. Changing passwords from commands in terminal is not the problem. I am given just one account to choose from to log on and it's not accepting the password because of the changes I made in the advanced options menu.
Is there any hope of getting this thing going again? Or have I just screwed myself over?
    Thanks for your help!
    Leah

    You can reset the password.

Do you need to recover data from it before you sell it?  If not you can just wipe the disk and prepare it for sale.

i use migrate assistant to move files from my old pc to the new Mac , but it creates the user account. How can i delete the unwanted user account.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's the classic behaviour after using Migration Assistant and that's normal.
To transfer the data from the new user account to your old user account, you can follow some steps. Here is all the information you need to do this > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

  • I can not create a new user account on eprint

i can not create a new user account on eprint. I have been trying for over an hour and it repeats telling me that my email addresses are not entered correctly, however they match. ?

I have tried to create an account via ePrintCenter and it seems that the published application has several flaws in interpreting the provided input.
    1) In the Filed for last Name I enter my last name, which consist of only Alph Characters. The form however thinks that there is some sort of special character and rejects my Input.
    2) E-Mail address. is not identical; OK, so I do a quick OCR on the E-Mail and guess what they are identical. Again the form Fails to recognize this.
    3) Enter a password (2 Fields) and a third is displayed which is marked as "*required" but is not labeled as to what the required info could possibly be. Or is it a 3 password confirmation box, who knows.
All I know is that a simple registration is a major pain with this HP site.
Any Help as to how to alleviate this would of course be greatly appreciated.

This should help you out after  you have created the new user account. You are trying to make it much more complex than it needs to be. Just follow the directions in:
Transferring files from one User Account to another.

  • I can not login to a certain account due to an error stating cookie not enabled, however my 3rd party cookies are enabled. How do I correct this?

I can not login to a certain account due to an error stating cookie not enabled, however my 3rd party cookies are enabled. How do I correct this?

    COOKIE_DOMAIN=.hackers
I think this is the problem. .hackers is no valid cookie domain. You have to use something like:
    .xy.ab
    (two points)
I fear it is not possible to correct this easiely. First change the hostname to something allowed e.g. hackers.com
Then open an ldap browser and edit ou=iplanetamplatformservice,ou=services,dc=hackers
There is an entry with an xml. Copy the xml to an editor, search for .hackers, change it to a valid domainname.
Im not sure if a restart of the webserver is necessary here.
Another idea: You could also try to set the cookie domain to solnce.hackers, maybe this is accepted, even if it is not a cookie domain. But I dont know if this works...

  • IPlanet directory server can't start in a user account - A bug?

I installed iplanet directory server 5.1 in Solaris 9. I am using typical install mode. I set UserA/GroupA to represent the directoy server that means the directory server instance running in this user account. After I input the user name and group name, it gives a very strange message, say "suffix must have a valid dn. Press any key to continue" After I press any key, it continue to do other setup. Once instllation done, if I try to login as that user account and start-slapd, it just give an error message, " iplanet/servers/bin/slapd/server do not have permission". I checked this directory, UserA do not have even read access to the directory.
So is this a bug in this verion of directory server/
    Thanks,
    Iris

It's very likely that you gave an Invalid DN for the Suffix of your directory instance...
The setup should have asked again the DN... It looks like a problem with the setup command.

  • How come nobody can log in to a user account?

10.6 Server functioning well in all configured aspects. Did a software update. I don't think it was an important one, perhaps Safari and iTunes which I did just because I always do all the updates. Then, I used Disk Utility to repair permissions. Again, just because some say that you should, and it has never caused me any problems.
Instant disaster! Now nobody can log in to a user account to access any network home folders. All users can log in and access the Wiki service as normal. And I can log in via ARD and use Server Admin and Workgroup Manager. But no luck with users accessing the homes.
I suspect inappropriate permissions at or near the top of my Users directory, but I am not sure. First of all, what may have happened, and then how can I solve this problem???

I have no idea what may have happened (surely nothing SHOULD have), and I'm pretty much a novice (especially with NetBoot), but did you check in...
    - Workgroup Manager: User/'Basic' tab/"User can" access account
    - Server Admin: NetBoot (and NFS or Web) is running
To check permissions 'at or near the top of the Users directory', use ServerAdmin/AFP/Sharepoints/Browse then click on the permissions tab and double-click the user/group name. Or select the user/group and click the gear icon below for more ways to cause trouble!
Apologies if you knew all this already.

Just want to avoild spending hours migrating everything across....

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).
Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.
