Can't match footage with (custom) Preset in CS3

I've captured footage from my Hi8 Sony Camera using Honestech VHS to DVD device.
Setting were to capture in SVCD. I chose this to optimize file size and this should accommodate the 420 lines from the Hi8.
Next I create a new project but no Presets are offered to match this format.
If I import the footage with having chosen any preset then in the project panel the imported footage shows as the following:
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 664.8 MB
Image Size: 480 x 576
Pixel Depth: 480
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00:33:22:24
Average Data Rate: 339 KB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.6
There is no preset for this and if I choose Desktop ion Custom Setting and enter the 480 x 576 there is no choice for the 1.6 PAR. The result is the video is truncated in the horizontal.
The alternative seem to be to capture in DVD format giving the following result:
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 4.1 GB
Image Size: 720 x 576
Pixel Depth: 720
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 01:09:02:08
Average Data Rate: 1.0 MB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.066
However this gives a much larger and unneccesary file size.
Can anyone help out here?

I do not think you will get a settings that will match SVCD its rather obselete.
You have to capture in DVD mpeg 720x576, this is quite common.
You will have to get a larger disk if you cannot store this file.
4 gig is not large these days.

  • Match Footage with Sequence Preset?

    I got some problem with matching my imported footage with my Sequence Presets. I'm new to
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and have tried to read me to a solution here on the forum but need some more help.
    I have found some similar topics and can confirm that my problem is most likely caused by a mismatch between my Sequence settings and the source.
    Can someone maybe guide me through the sequese presets step by step and the general specs as well to create a good editing base for my project.
    I read that G-Spot was a good tool to get all info of the source file and here´s the source file properties I would like to match:
    I want the best possible quality out of my filmed footage, booth video and audio but I don't really know how to match those settings.
    I really appreciate all help I can get here.

    Welcome to the forum.
    One should go about this in the opposite direction - matching the Sequence Preset to the footage.
    It looks like you have PAL Widescreen, and that would be the Preset to choose.
    If one has odd footage, PrPro provides a way to alter the Sequence Preset - the Desktop Preset, which allows one to customize most attributes to match. Say that you have that same footage, except that it was shot at 18 FPS (not the normal 25 FPS), in the Desktop Preset, you could change to 18 FPS. That holds for more attributes.
    Then, if one wants something else, when the Export, most formats/CODEC's will allow them to make the change there.
    Starting with a Preset that matches the footage 100% will give the best editing experience, and the fewest issues.
    One note: you are dealing with MPEG-2 footage, so it has already been pretty heavily compressed, resulting in an initial loss in quality. With most Export options, one will compress that footage again, resulting in another loss in quality. The ultimate workflow would be to go back to before the MPEG-2 compression, if at all possible. If not, then one just has to live with the quality loss.
    Good luck, and hope that this helps,
    Hunt
    [Edit] I see that you have AC3 Audio. That might, or might not pose an issue. What exact version of PrPro do you have? With about CS4.2, AC3 Audio support was built into the program. Before that, one had to find the AC3 .dll file in Encore, and copy it over to the main PrPro folder. The exact name of that .dll file depends on the version of PrPro and Encore, that one has.

    Can i Match invoices with a currency different from the purchase order curr
    Thanks

    Hi,
    As a functionality, Payables will not allow matching an invoice to a purchase order that is in a different currency.
    Refer Oracle Public sector payables user guide for 11i (page 4-94).
    I understand that there is an enhancement request (3286623) logged for this functionality.

  • How can i open the "Convert to Indexed Color" dialog with custom presets?

    Hi,
    I need to automatically open the "Convert to Indexed Colors" dialog in Photoshop. Before and after that i have some scripts running so its not possible to open the dialog manually. Also i want to set some custom presets (like number of colors etc.).
    Found something similar to what i want for the Color Range selection (opens the dialog with the presets you put in):
    function colorrange(enabled, withDialog, fuzziness) {
        if (enabled != undefined && !enabled)
          return;
        var dialogMode = (withDialog ? DialogModes.ALL : DialogModes.NO);
        var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc1.putInteger(app.charIDToTypeID('Fzns'),fuzziness);
        var desc2 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc2.putDouble(app.charIDToTypeID('Lmnc'), 31.22);
        desc2.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("a"), 0.86);
        desc2.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("b"), 0.31);
        desc1.putObject(app.charIDToTypeID('Mnm '), app.charIDToTypeID('LbCl'), desc2);
        var desc3 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc3.putDouble(app.charIDToTypeID('Lmnc'), 95.34);
        desc3.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("a"), 54.59);
        desc3.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("b"), 49.85);
        desc1.putObject(app.charIDToTypeID('Mxm '), app.charIDToTypeID('LbCl'), desc3);
        desc1.putInteger(app.stringIDToTypeID("colorModel"), 0);
        var desc4 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var desc4 = executeAction(app.stringIDToTypeID('colorRange'), desc1, dialogMode);
    How can i achieve the same for the indexed color conversion dialog? Apart from doing a lot of guessing regarding the stringIDs.
    Is there some kind of "lookup table" for char and string IDs?
    Thank you guys in advance! This forum has been a great help many times.

    Ok never mind i got it, stupid me.
    Recorded it with Script Listener and changed the "DialogMode" parameter of the executeAction function from "DialogModes.No" to "DialogModes.All".
    var idCnvM = charIDToTypeID( "CnvM" );
                var desc249 = new ActionDescriptor();
                var idT = charIDToTypeID( "T  " );
                    var desc250 = new ActionDescriptor();
                    var idPlt = charIDToTypeID( "Plt " );
                    var idClrP = charIDToTypeID( "ClrP" );
                    var idSele = charIDToTypeID( "Sele" );
                    desc250.putEnumerated( idPlt, idClrP, idSele );

                    var idNone = charIDToTypeID( "None" );
                    desc250.putEnumerated( idFrcC, idFrcC, idNone );
                    var idTrns = charIDToTypeID( "Trns" );
                    desc250.putBoolean( idTrns, false );
                    var idDthr = charIDToTypeID( "Dthr" );
                    var idDthr = charIDToTypeID( "Dthr" );
                    var idDfsn = charIDToTypeID( "Dfsn" );

  • Can iTunes Match sync with multiple libraries?

    I have two libraries on my MacBook. Can I match both of them or should I take the time to consolidate them into one first?

    IIRC match uses the ITunes store Apple Id, so if the use the same you can do each in turn. If they have different store ids then you are nadgered and have to do each individually and cannot share.

  • Can u do this with adobe premiere pro cs3?

    Hi,
    my name is Jeffken ,I'm a photoshopper for almost 3 years (I think).
    I do alot of designwork for lot's of diffrent customers from family to friends to company's.Webdesign,photo's,...
    But yesterday a customer asked me if it was possible to make an animated projection of a city in snow. I know how to make animated gif's with photoshop but is it possible to shoot some nice footage with my videocamera and to load it in Premier Pro cs3 and to make the footage snowy,cold?
    Thx in advance tips and stuff are welcome!!
    Grtz
    Jeffken

    Nonesense, you can do it with Premiere.
    (1) In Photoshop, create a large resolution image with snow flakes on a blue screen background. Use that as a foreground.
    (2) In Premiere, place your foreground on top of the background and use blue screen options to retain only the snow flakes.
    (3) Increase the size of the foreground image a few hundred percent and use the movement option to slide the foreground down (as you would do in a crawl title effect).
    (4) Use various layers and various crawl speeds. When a crawl in done, fade into the next crawl to the snow flake effect goes on as long as you want.
    (5) You can use brighness variations on the snowflakes to create an organic effect.
    (6) To enhance the effect, use slightly different crawl angles on each layer.
    It works. I used this technique to create a sandstorm effect and it was so convincing, nobody knew it wasn't a real sandstorm.

  • Can't match SN with Adobe Product upon Install.

    I have downloaded Adobe XI Pro 3 times and on the 4th time did a repair installation. When I try to open the product, a message comes up stating the SN can't be matched with the product. The drop down menue does not include Adobe XI Pro so I can't select the product I purchased.
    The download was done over the internet from the Adobe website using my purchase AD010368315.
    I need help!

    If you happened to purchase an upgrade, chances are it is asking you for the serial number of the qualifying product that legitimizes the upgrade activation (meaning the version you already had).
    If that is not the case you probably need to look for help from Adobe Support directly by chat or phone.
    Here are some links to help make contact:

  • Can't create LOM with Custom Marker

    Is there a way to create a List of Markers with a custom marker? For example, I created a marker named Warning and another one named Caution. I want to create a LOM for each of these. But when I try to add a LOM in the book, those markers are not options, only the system markers.
    I'm using FM 9.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Karen,
    I use FrameMaker 9. The List of Custom Markers AND the Index of Custom Markers both work for me. The only difference is that I am using structured FrameMaker, but it would think it should work in unstructured FM.
    Maybe others might know what else you need to do to make it work.
    One guess is that your new marker types need to be imported into all the files in the book, possibly the book itself. I do not know how they are stored. Maybe they are variable definitions or maybe document properties, but I am just guessing.

  • Can't Use Shortcuts with Photoshop Preset Actions

    I haven't been able to get my shortcuts to work in CS4 when I set them for individual actions within the actions palette. I do understand how to both set actions and their shortcuts. I also understand how to use the shortcuts. I have successfully done each of the processes in the past, but haven't been able to get them to work since installing them on my new computer.
    For example, I have a photo effect I like and use frequently, so I created an action for it. I gave it the shortcut (Command + F1). When I press the Command and F1 buttons, nothing happens. If I change the shortcut to (Shift + F1), when I press the appropriate keys, it simply changes the brightness of my screen, as F1 on my keyboard also decreases the brightness of my screen.
    I'd definitely appreciate any ideas!
    Thank you!

    Mac OS is overriding the function keys. You need to hold down the "fn" key (in the lower left of the keyboard on Macbook Pros) the Function key (in the group of keys between the main keyboard and number keys on an extended Mac keyboard) in addition to the function key in order for it to work.

  • How to save expression together with animation preset?

    I am trying to understand expressions and animation presets.
    I have one single slider control, which controls the opacity of a layer, where the value is the slider value + slightly changed using an expression.
    I can save the slider control as an animation preset, but the expression gets lost.
    Yes, this is so basic that it can be, this is the way I like to learn. And as far as I know, expressions can be saved together with animation presets. I hope someone can tell me how!

    The reason that the expression is not removed when you delete the slider is that the expression is only reading the slider value, the slider doesn't know that the expression is there. There's no reverse link.
    You can build more professional effects but that involves editing the xml file that tells AE what effects are applied. This still would not generate a reverse link to an expression.
    Enabling or disabling an effect only changes the way things are rendered. If you have keyframes on a Lens Flair Brightness and you disable the effect the Lens Flair will not render but the keyframe values will still be available to an expression. Again, there's no reverse link. Since an expression slider does not make a change in the pixel values of a layer turning the FX switch on or off will have no effect on an expression reading the value.
    The "trick" in creating an Animation Preset that uses expressions and is removed with the "effect" is removed from the Effects Control Window is to only write expressions for properties that are available in the effects used. You could do this by applying the Transform Effect, or the Levels Individual Controls Effect, or the CC Composite Effect to the layer and writing the expression there instead of placing your expression in the Layer's opacity property. Take a look at this screenshot.

  • Can't make a workable custom codec with ProRes 422 (HQ)

    I've only just now found that there is a Support Community for Compressor.  Wish I'd known sooner.
    I see my version of Compressor is 3.5.3.
    I've been on a little saga.
    I started out with the challenge of converting some MP4 files from a Blackberry Playbook into ProRes 422 (HQ) for editing in Final Cut. I used Compressor and the task looked fairly straight forward. I used the ProRes setting in the Compressor, converted my files and imported them into Final Cut. Video was fine but I soon found out that the audio needed rendering every time I put a clip into the Timeline. I went on-line to various chat rooms with this problem. Pretty soon a fellow was telling me that the ProRes 422 (HQ) setting in Compressor had "Audio Pass-through" as default and that this was the cause of my problem. Change it, he said, to "Linear PCM".
    It took me a fair while to figure out that the ProRes setting in Compressor did not allow itself to be modified and that I'd have to create a custom preset if I was to make these changes. I set about to do that. I was able to select "QuickTime Movie" and then in "Video/Settings" choose "ProRes 422 (HQ)", in "Audio", "Linear PCM". This did solve the audio problem. Now files imported into Final Cut did not need rendering. But another problem became evident.
    Whereas the ProRes 422 setting that came with Compressor in its summary page listed: "Width" and "Height" as "(100% of source)", the custom ProRes 422 (HQ) setting I'd just created has "Width" and "Height" as "320" and "240". In short the 19:9 aspect ratio of the original footage was lost. What I got both in the conversion and in Final Cut was a squished SD image.
    I've played like heck with Compressor trying to see if there was some place I could get this custom version of ProRes to correspond to the aspect ratio seen in the Audio Pass-through version that came loaded in Compressor. No luck. All very mysterious.
    My next step was to look to create another custom codec that would have the proper 1280 X 720 ratio. Turns out  "HDV 720p 30fps" does, so now I've been converting to that. Looks fine in Final Cut - proper picture and sound.
    I've been playing around a bit more and see now that I can create a custom setting using "Apple Intermediate Codec". I've tried it and it works too.
    So after all this, my question: Should I be using that codec instead? Or does it really matter what codec I use for editing? Is the only real issue what codec I decide to use to output?
    And while I'm at it: Does anybody have ideas why trying to create a custom setting with ProRes 422 (HQ) does not work - for my purposes at least.
    I must admit this converting codecs is pretty new to me. Hopefully with time this experience will get easier and clearer.
    John

    Setting a Compressor ProRes Custom Setting:
    1) Pick Apple ProRes 422...
    2) Drag the PreRes 422 setting to the Bach Window. You can only make a custom setting from the Batch Window...
    3) Select enable for the audio. Click on setting to make sure it is set right. Uncheck Allow Job Segmenting... Make sure Streaming is set to none*....
    4) Select the Geomenty tab... Pick Custom (16:9):
    5) Click Save As and name your custom setting...
    6) You new custom setting will show up in the Custum folder for later use:
    Another thing you can do is make Droplet of this custom setting. Menu... File... Create Droplet... Save the Droplet into a folder somewhere on your computer.
    A Droplet will start the transcoding automatically. Drag the Droplet onto a video icon and let it do it's job.
    * ProRes doesn't need the Fast Start setting. If this is set it will take almost twice as long to do the encoding. Same with Allow Job Segmenting using Qmaster.
    I did the above on the fly and hope everything is clear for you to understand.

  • I have a sequence on tcp that is Standard Def. I have a new set of files in High Def that match the old files. I would like to replace all the SD footage with the HD footage. Anyone know of a workflow to do this task?

    I have a sequence on tcp that is Standard Def. I have a new set of files in High Def that match the old SD files. I would like to replace all the SD footage with the HD footage. Anyone know of a workflow to do this task?

    Do a media manage of the sequence converting the files to the appropriate HD format making the clips offline.  Then simply reconnect the offline clips to the HD clips.  There may be issues in the file names, but they can usually be worked out either with the naming options in media manager or renaming your hd files.  There are many utilities that allow you to batch rename files.

  • How can I import .mov footage with original pixel aspect ratio?

    So the footage is 720x480 Square Pixels (1.0), 29.97 fps, progressive .mov but when I import it into Premiere Pro, they come up compressed as D1/DV NTSC (0.9091) automatically. When I try to Interpret Footage, it simply adds black bars. Why can't it just import correctly? When I preview the original footage, it plays back correctly but the preview inside Premiere Pro shows the distorted version... Please and thank you!!!

    The suggestion about "new item" above was short. Here's the "full" version. In the Project Panel, go to the lower right corner ... click on the "New Item" Icon ... as shown here:
    The first item on the pop-up menu that will appear should be "Sequence" ... click on it and just say ok at the next screen without even reading it. It's irrelevant, really.
    Then going back to your project panel (we assume you've already imported your footage into it) click & drag a clip from the proj. panel to the timeline, or move one from the "Source monitor" to the timeline ... you should get a pop-up asking if you want the timeline changed to your footage, or your footage changed to the timeline. Take the timeline/sequence settings changed to match footage, and go.
    That SHOULD take care of the problem in the vast majority of cases. It is such a simple fix, and so often the easiest and "correctist", that it's worth a try. Navigating the choices of setting up sequences is best left for those people who say, study GPU algorithms for a couple hours before going to bed for the sheer exhilaration of it ... unless, of course, PrPro actuall does a face-plant with your footage. But it mostly works good at it ... once you just let it ... so you might give that a try, takes what ... 20 seconds to see if it works?
