Marco,
is your main system language set to English? If not, change the language to English in the "Language&Region" System Preferences  (see: Re: I bought Aperture in a box et can't upgrade from 3.4.5 to 3.5.). Then sign back into AppStore and reload the Updates panel.
Other things that could prevent the update are, if you moved Aperture from the Applications folder or renamed it. Then put it back.

• Can't open iphoto library after software update

Hello, I recently updated to iPhoto 2.0.1 and now can't open my photo library. Here's the error msg i receive when i open the app: "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto."
I only have 1 version of iphoto on my hd.
Thanks!!
Molly

I only assumed the trouble stemmed from an auto software update. But when you say "a photo CD recently acquired" do you mean any CD with photos on it? I get a few of those a week in my line of work and have never had a problem before. Could a CD of images have corrupted my application?
Also, I just got a new HD onto which all of my data was transferred, could this have precipitated the problem?
This indeed is the something I was not telling you.
Do let me know Brie Fly.
Thank you.

• Can't Open Mac Mail after Recent Update

Last night I performed a software update and today I cannot open my mail application.  When I do, I get the following error message:
You can’t use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X
You tried to open Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085) in:
/Applications/iWork '09/Mail.app
It can’t be used on this version of Mac OS X. Try opening the version of Mail located in the Applications folder on your computer. For more information, click the Help button.
When I try to open Mail from the applications folder as it instructs, I still get the same error message.  I did notice that when I view the program in the preview window that it says Mail version 4.6 even though the error message says 4.5.  I would suspect that has something to do with the problem, but that's as good at troubleshooting as I get.  Does anyone know how to resolve this?  Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

• Can't open Email Settings after firmware updated a...

Hi,
I've upgrated my E71 with new 3.00 firmware yesterday and then restored phone memory from saved backup (yes, restoring is still a great pain for Nokia phones owners - you know, not all the software installed restores and so on, but that's another question).
Before this upgrade I had MfE and Nokia Email installed and one IMAP mailbox was set up in standard Messaging application. After restoring from backup Nokia Email was missing (backup problems I mentioned above) but I've reinstalled it successfully. MfE and Messaging mailbox also worked okay.
But today suddenly I discovered that when I try to open Settings / Email menu item at Messaging app, this app crashes silently. Strange, but when I'm accessing Email Settings menu item being at mailbox tab, I can see this mailbox settings. but when I try to enter global email settings for all mailboxes from the app main menu, application crashes.
I tried to add another mailbox using Settings Wizard - and it worked, additional mailbox appeared in Messaging app. But all the same with it - no access to global Settings / Email menu but  works okay when I open Email Settings directly from mailbox tab.
The thing is that I need to remove mailboxes from Messaging App and it can be done through this unreachable global Settings / Email menu only.
Another detail - when I change storage from phone memory to memory card in Settings / Other menu, my mailboxes disappear and the Settings / Email menu becomes accessible. And when I change storage back to phone memory, my two mailboxes are back again (and functional, as before), but when I try to open Settings / Email menu app crashes.
Please advise, because I really have no idea what to do. I assume that there must be a way to remove mailboxes manually, but what is it?
Regards, Yuriy.

Well, the problem gone after I deleted MfE profile (I don't need it right now). This Settings menu is accessible again. Anyway, it was very strange and I can't predict if I will face it again after I add another MfE profile.

• How do I get around this bug: can't open my site after latest update?

I installed the latest update three days ago and have been working on my site up until 11 hours ago. Just opened it to work again and get an "updating assets" message that never ends.
Also since the update my businesscatalyst isn't working when I try to publish: "Query failed"
Supposed to launch test site Monday morning. Bad timing. Love Muse and hoped the update would resolve some glitches, not add more. How can I trust any updates now?
I'm on a macbook w/retina OSX 10.8.2

Hello,
Can you please send me your .muse file [email protected] with the subject attn: Marc and a link to this thread so I can take a look at it?
Thanks,

• Can't open Illustrator & InDesign after Security Update

Hello,
The latest version of iTunes required me to update Safari and Security Update 2009-005PPC. I've had problems in the past with Security Updates, so I wasn't thrilled about it.
Sure enough, now I can't launch CS2 Illustrator or InDesign.
Illustrator just hangs on startup while it's initializing. InDesign comes up with a screen asking for my registration code. When I put in the code, it tells me it's the wrong code. Other programs seem to be okay.
I've re-installed both programs, same problems. I've booted in safe mode, same problems.
Any ideas?

Hi SEPST, and a warm welcome to the forums!
See if this might be it...
Several people having the same problem. Seems there was a glitch in the Adobe Acrobat 8.2 update:

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• CAN'T  open any applications after mac os update 10.4.11

CAN'T  open any applications after mac os update 10.4.11 help

General advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170
And for Intel Macs here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.4.11 update here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
