  • Some users can't open Excel files. It is trying to open it in Internet Explorer "An error has occurred. Please try again."

I have some users in my company that can't open Excel files from any document libraries on SharePoint 2010. The receive the error message "An error occurred. Please try again."  We don't currently use the Excel calculations services. When
a user opens an excel file they are prompted to either Read Only or Edit.
This affects less than 5 people in a large company.  They have the Full Control permissions and have been able to open the files previously.  There has been no changes made to the server either.  I can't find anything that points to this in the
    event viewer.
It doesn't matter if which computer that they try to open this up from either.   All computers are Windows 7 Professional with IE 9 and Office 2010 x64.
I can't find anything that points specifically to this exact error. None of the excel files contain pivot tables.    This one has me stumped.

I would make sure no one has open on machine / locked on machine (Would assume you checked this, but wanted to add)
Also would have assumed you restarted the machines (:))
Make sure the file security did not change (check to ensure no one changed the sercuity of the excel)
Make sure the version of excel is the same (Changing from 2010 back to 2007 affects the file, etc.. on convert) that no one converted and saved thus causing error in file.
Can they open other excel files?
It sounds like the excel file it self has changed if you cannot see issue in SharePoint logs.
If it is all SharePoint excel files - try deleting one persons access and readding them to see if that helps.
    SharePoint has issues ;)

    Help ....

I can't open excel as its a powerPC app what do I do?
Buy a newer version of Office (assuming it supports Lion). I don't know how the free Office substitutes (Open Office, Neo Office) stand as regards to Lion support.  Apple has its own Office equivalent (Numbers, Pages) but I have never seen a copy so I can't say anything about it.
As Klaus said, dropping PPC coding support was mentioned before release, but is obviously not the first thing they are going to tell you about Lion.  For those of us using Macs the rule of thumb has been for support to drop roughly 4 years after a hardware or software platform has been discontinued.  This is no publicized formal policy but if you check the various hardware and software releases over the past decade you'll see that support discontinues about 2 OS releases after whatever was current at the time. Leopard was the last OS that ran on PPC, and Lion is 2 OS releases after Leopard, so I don't think any of us are surprised that anything related to PPC is now gone.  Unfortunately it just means that Mac owners have to either be well-heeled to make more frequent computer purchases, or you have to be savvy and figure workarounds and be thankful for third party support.

  • Can't open excel in home premium office 365

Had office 365 home premium installed. Now can't open excel documents

    Hi terrymmurphy,
Do you double-click on the Excel file and unable to open this file?
If so, the association between the file and the corresponding application may be missing.
Please follow these steps to re-associate the file manually.
     1.  Right-click the Office file that you want to open.
     2.  Select Open with, then click Choose default program.
     3.  Select the appropriate program to associate with the file, click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.
This Excel file may be damaged, we can try these methods to repair a corrupted workbook.

Could you please tell us more detail information? I’ll analyze this issue in detail as soon as getting it.

How can I open excel pdf files

    Hi mmart1957,
Do you have Excel files, PDF files, or PDF files that have been converted to Excel? If you're working with PDF files, you'll need either Reader or Acrobat to open the files. If you have a converted Excel file, then you'll need Excel to open it.

  • You can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use the latest version of iphoto

you can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use latest version of iphoto. iphoto 11 is installed.

This is a message you got?
If so, as your post isn't clear, it may be a bogus message caused by a corrupt database.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Can't send Excel 2007 File via Send To Email Option after Acrobat Install

Normally, you can send an Excel 2007 file via email to someone by going to the Send option on the Excel file menu and choosing "Email." This will email an actual copy of the Excel 2007 file. However, since installing Adobe Acrobat  9 pro on my computer, this option, as well as the option to send to XPS are gone -- the only email option I have on that menu is to convert the file to a PDF and email it.
It seems to me that Acrobat should ADD options to menus but not remove any! Does anyone know how I can get those missing options (especially the one to email the actual file itself) back? I've tried Googling up a solution, but to no avail so far.
Thanks, in advance, for any help!
    Laura

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Aditya!
I saw that MS support article when I was trying to solve this issue on my own, but the solutions it proposes won't work for me -- I can't set Outlook as my email client (this is a work computer and we use Lotus Notes) and I can't muck around in the registry (again, this is a work computer). I know I can attach the Excel via the attach command in the email client, but the main thing is I don't understand why Acrobat has removed that option from the Excel menu. Also, it removed the Send to XPS option (which I don't really care about, but it bothers me because it shouldn't be deleting anything)!
I even tried adding the Email command to the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel -- it let me add the button, but, when I click it, absolutely nothing happens.

Some files contain viruses that can be harmful to your computer. it is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy sourceDo you want to open this file?
Then, When I click on Yes, the second error message(below) shows and I can not open Excel using my local Excel Application.

  • Errors opening Excel 2007 spreadsheets in Excel 2010

When I try to open spreadsheets created in Excel 2007 with Excel 2010, I get the error:  "Excel found unreadable contenct in 'file name'.  Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook?  If you trust the source of this workbook, click
Yes".  Then a Repairs dialog box comes up saying:  "Excel completed file level validation and repair. Some parts of this workbook may have been repaired or discarded.    Removed Part: Print options."  File then opens fine.
We receive Excel 2007 from various sources.  One of my problem is that we are just starting to migrate people to Windows 7 and Office 2010, with most people still on Office XP.  The file format converter for Excel 2002/2003 does not work with these
Excel 2007 files.  The other problem is that we have macros that are used to open Excel files and import data into other Excel files.  Pretty hard to modify these macros to allow for some files that are going to pop up this error, and others that
    do not.
What is causing this problem, and what fix is available?  We have asked that people save the Excel files in Excel 97-03 format before sending to us, with mixed results.

    Hi,
Thank you for using Excel IT Pro Discussions forum.
Are you using Office 2010 RTM version? If it is trial version or beta version, I suggest upgrading it to the RTM version.
First, please check if this KB article helps:
Error message when you try to open a workbook in Excel 2007: "Excel found unreadable content in Book_Name"
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929766
Note: The steps are for Excel 2007. The steps in Excel 2010 are similar.
If the problem persists, let’s also check the following settings in Excel 2010.
    ========
    1.
In Excel 2010, click File > Options > Trust Center > File block settings.
    2.
    Check the checkboxes before:
Excel 2007 and later Wordbooks and Templates
Excel 2007 and later Macro-Enabled Workbooks and Templates
Excel 2007 and later Add-in Files
Excel 2007 and later Binary Workbooks
Then, try to open the Excel 2007 file in Excel 2010 and check the results again.

  • Can't open Excel or Word files on share drive (SMB or AFP) after 10.9.2

After updating to Mavericks OS 10.9.2, I can no longer open excel or word files on my company file share.  I receive the error:
    'FILEPATH' could not be found.
Ckeck the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most frequently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.
I am able to open files on my lcaol hard drive, and other external USB Flash drives.  Word present's a slightly different error, with the same theme (filename).
I've tried rebooting both the client and server (both running 10.9.2).  Was successful opening files when booting the client into safe mode.  Any ideas?

I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem that started yesterday. I have two macs.  Once can't open MS Office files from the other Mac but can open Office files on each Mac. Drove me nuts for about 2 hours today - on the phone with Apple twice and Microsoft once.  Finally found a similar post from 2007 that suggested to turn off and on file sharing by unchecking the "Share files and folders using AFP", on both computers and rebooting. That fixed it.
Funny thing, it was only with Office files I created since updating the software last week. Old Office files opened fine.

  • Can't open numbers files in latest version

I'm running the latest version of numbers in Mavericks and iOs7. I was able to open a file yesterday, but now get this message "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet." I've double checked and all the versions are the latest. - it's a numbers file now, so I can't open it in excel either.

    Hi marion0,
A lot of people don't realize that after they download Numbers 3.0 the old Numbers 2.3 is still on their machine. Numbers 3.0 is in the Applications folder and Numbers 2.3 is in a subfolder within Applications called iWork '09 or similar. The icons are similar and it is very easy to get confused.  Here the old version is on top, the new version on the bottom. (They can run at the same time.)
If you had an icon on your dock before downloading Numbers 3.0 then it's probably still pointing to the old version. So if you like clicking on the dock to open an application and then open documents from within the application you need to drag the icon for the new Numbers 3.0 to the dock.  Otherwise, you can always right-click on a document in Finder as Badunit suggests and choose which Numbers version you want via Open With.

Is the version of excel from Office 2004 or older?
That will not run beyond 10.6.8, because it contains PowerPC code, no longer supported in 10.7 and later.
