ouch. okay, i've only ever seen that error message once before ... in that case there turned out to be registry damage on the machine. xks finally managed to fix it by using a registry cleaning utility:
    xks, "iTunes won't install/uninstall/run/etc. [LATEST VERSION]" #12, 09:13pm Sep 25, 2005 CDT
xks got the link to the regcleaner from the link to the "CoJeff" procedure in my previous post in the thread.
(i'm afraid i've never used that utility myself, so i can't really guide you through the procedure ... maybe it would be profitable to put in a question to xks in that thread asking him how he went about things?)

  • "You can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac"

Yesterday, Software Updater has installed something which required me to "close iTunes in order to complete the installation" - I can only assume it was an iTunes (or related) update?
Now when I try to open iTunes, a window appears, stating: "you can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac".
I have a Macbook (late 08) and am running 10.6.8
I'm conscientious about keeping my software & apps up to date, so it should only be something very recent & I assume fairly minor...
    Any ideas??

To anyone else who may have experienced this problem (I doubt that I'd be the only one):
Over the past couple of days I have left my Macbook sitting idle for extended periods, put it to sleep, & also shut it down.
This morning I tried to reinstall the same download that didn't work a couple of days ago & it has been recognised, installed & seems to run just fine - playing right now I'm happy to say!
I suggest you try doing the same: ie. leave your machine sitting idle till it sleeps & shut it down, before you try the reinstall.

  • Can't open the application "iTunes" because it may be damaged or incomplete

Out of the blue today, iTunes showed up with a gray X over the icon in the dock, and when I try to open it, I am told, "You can't open the application "itunes" because it may be damaged or incomplete. I've looked around for ways to reinstall or repair itunes, but only come up with solutions for PC, but nothing for mac. Thank you!

Perhaps try updating to version 11.1.5.5, using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

  • I am trying to open up my iTunes from my Mac. It says "You can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac." What do I do?

I am trying to open up my iTunes from my iMac. It says "You can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac." What do I do? I've already force closed all other apps.

Well, obviously the problem isn't with the other apps, it's with the type of Mac you have. What type of Mac do you have?

  • I can not open iphoto and itune anymore

anyone knows why i can not open iphoto and itune anymore/

I have rerun the applications install dvd, but it has not corrected the fault. When I try to open iphoto's I have an error message that says You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
    Peter,
the version you installed from the DVD is probably older than the version you used last with your library, so you need to update to the last version you used.
I have tried to update to the latest iphoto 11 but it wont download. Any answers please.
Where are you trying to download from? When you upgrade a version that is installed from the DVD, you need to update from the Software Update menu entry in the Apple-menu.
Also, iPhoto has to be called simply "iPhoto", not iPhoto '11 or something similar and to be installed in the Applications folder. Otherwise it will not be recognised by the updater.

  • Can't uninstall or reinstall itunes (and it won't open)

When i click on my itunes icon, it reads "iTunes cannot run because some of its requrired files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes". When I try to reinstall iTunes and click on my iTunes Setup it reads "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine, installation cannot continue". So if i go into my control pannel and go to my remove program file, and try to uninstall itunes it reads "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine, installation cannot continue"
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,

Follow the instructions in this knowledge base article to completely uninstall iTunes from your system, so you can do a clean install.

The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility is probably the step that really needs to be done, but work through the steps.

  • HT1926 I was loading an update to my i-Tunes for my computer and got an error message and now I can not open my computer itunes and may have lost all the content. What do I do?

I got a request from apple to update my itunes and while uploading the update, the program gave an error message and now I can not open my itunes and fear that all my music etc is gone?  what do I do to correct this problem?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • I STILL can't open my upgraded itunes!

    Hi,
I've downloaded the new itunes with the quicktime and now my itunes will not open. I have tried everything: reinstalling it all, installing the standalone quicktime and turning off my Norton stuff. I've tried the msconfig and it worked, but when i put the mormal setting back on, my itunes wouldn't open again.... is there something i'm missing? please help, i'm going crazy! haha

    For God sake!
I´m in the same situation; I´ve alredy uninstall and re- installed iTunes, the same for Quicktime... I´ve did it with the anti-virus software turned on and off... I´ve already checked all the folders that have somethings related with the program and have turned "off" the "read only" button...
unfortunatelly... nothing had worked... I still can´t open the iTunes... every time I double click the icon on desktop... or the one in the program folder, the "pointer" turns into the sandclock for a couple of seconds and then... nothing, absolutelly NOTHING happens!!! ****!
Is there any way for the people at Mac check the programming or at least that let us (the ones who have an older iPod version) to get again the older iTunes version?
    PLEASE!!!!
    Thnx!

  • Can't open or uninstall iTunes

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro. So far, it's been nothing but trouble. Safari shuts down on its own. The computer shuts down on its own. After utilities practically begged me to, I reinstalled Mavericks and the backup from Time Machine. Now it shuts down less and Safari shuts down less. But they still do. As an added bonus, iTunes doesn't open now. It says "PowerPC applications are no longer supported." When I try to uninstall it, I get a message that it "can't be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X." Any help is greatly appreciated.
Aaaaanfd as I wrote this, my computer jumped back to the login screen. Is this thing alive???

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Clock OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi" in the box below."
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't Open Library In iTunes

I have not been able to open up my library in iTunes. I tried to reinstall it, I did it successfully, it is the most updated version. I just can't open the window to see my songs. This is getting frustrating. Can anyone help?

yeah i plugged in my iphone to my computer and itunes does not even notice that i plugged it in.

  • Error 2330, Windows Vista - Can't uninstall or Reinstall ITunes

Itunes was working fine for quite awhile, but now when I access the store to download another song the store shows up but almost immediately blanks out to a white screen with only header info on it, no details.
When Itunes starts up, I get a message saying that there is a problem with the installation and CD downloads will not work.
I have tried reinstalling Itunes and Quicktime from the apple website. Also, uninstalling both from the Windows control settings. QT gets uninstalled and reinstalled fine. I get error 2330 with no other information when trying to reinstall or uninstall Itunes.
Have tried clearing out the TEMP folder and also doing selective startup as directed on the apple help tips. Still no luck.
Does anyone have suggestions how to resolve the 2330 error and why I am getting it?
    THANK YOU !!

I had this same issue with the iTunes store loading then going to a blank white screen straight after. I then checked for updates, installed everything it told me to (Safari, Quicktime, iTunes). However after everything installed it cut my internet connection. I was able to browse the internet for about a minute before I completely lost my internet connection.
I called my router manufacturer, they could not resolve my issue as the other PC's could access the internet so I knew it was iTunes/Safari/Quicktime. I did a system restore (I am using Windows Vista), that did not work. I searched on the other PC for help and found somewhere to uninstall network adaptors under the device manager. That just took away all my applications that pointed towards the internet so I did another system restore to bring them back, but this however fixed my issue. I did have to re-access my router from my computer by prompting it to reconnect to my ISP and then I got my internet back.
But, I can't access my iTunes or listen to my music.

  • Can not open ipod in itunes and a little lock is showed on the bottom

how do i unlock my ipod in itunes because i can't open it and can't view the files on the ipod and only on itunes...how do i unlock my ipod???? please help

The lock icon indicates that iTunes is set to synchronize to your iPod automatically, which means that you do not manage the tracks directly on your iPod, you make changes in iTunes itself. If you want to manage your iPod directly, change the iPod Options in iTunes to manually manage your iPod. To do this, connect your iPod and click the iPod Options button at the bottom of iTunes (or right-click on the iPod icon if you have iTunes 7). Click the Music button and select "Manually manage songs and playlists." You can then delete tracks directly from your iPod (they will not be correspondingly deleted from iTunes). You'll have to drag songs from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • How can i open a UK itunes account to buy radio edit versions of songs?

My seven year old likes pop tunes that on USA itunes have profanities. The UK itunes offers readio edit versions of these songs with the original artists. I tried to purchase these versions but could not with a US itunes account. Then when I try to open a UK itunes account I can's due to my USA address. Any way around this problem? Or better still any way USA itunes could offer the same clean versions by original artists that the UK itunes offers?
    Kaytha Clawson

To be able to buy from the UK store you will need a valid UK billing address and be in the UK when buying from it. You can try requesting that the versions that you want be added to the US store, but ultimately it's the record companies that will have to grant Apple licenses to sell them there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html
Are they available on other music purchase download sites that you have access to ?

  • Can't uninstall or reinstall itunes/quicktime

Thursday night I used itunes. Friday night it gave me an error when I tried to use it, saying that files were missing and I needed to reinstall itunes. I tried to do that and I was given to option to repair or uninstall itunes. I attempted to repair. I got the same messages. I attempted to remove it and reinstall it. I got the same messages. I tried to restore my system to a previous setting, to see if that repaired itunes. I got similar messages. I have tried to follow advice I have seem for similar problems on this forum, to completely uninstall itunes and quicktime, I have been unable to uninstall quicktime, although it seemed to uninstall itunes, when I tried to uninstall quicktime in the add/remove programs, I get an error message that says: error- 1618 another installation is already in progress. Complete this process before proceeding.
If I try to open quicktime alone, I get a message saying: Runtime error- this application has requested to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more info.
