Can't Prepare Printed Docs in RH Demo

I am new to RH. I downloaded the trial versions of RH9 and FM10. I'm floundering around trying to learn on the fly. I was trying test the ability to prepare PDFs from the topics. I found my way to "Printed Documentation" in the Single Source Layouts pod. When I try to prepare either a PDF or DOC file, it crashes RH, saying "Failed to build title page". I tried this from two of the sample projects as well as one of my own topic pages.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it? Is other software required to export PDF/DOC? Do I have to have certain versions of Office installed? What about Acrobat?
Thank you!

Welcome to our community
Can't help you with FrameMaker, but creating printed docs from RoboHelp does require Microsoft Word to be installed. So if you don't have Micrsoft Word installed there will likely be issues trying to created printed docs.
I believe the PDF output takes a side trip through Microsoft Word first. So if you can't create a PDF it also seems to suggest you don't have Word installed.
Cheers... Rick

  • Can't create printed doc with build tags

I've applied conditional build tags to a few topics in a
project, selected a build epxression, and then tried to generate
printed documentation. RH shuts down and I get the Microsoft error
    reporting message.
The printed documentation generates fine when I select NONE
in the conditional build tag expression.
    Am I doing something wrong?
I'm using RH 6.0 and Word 2003 SP2 and the program was
installed with me as the admin.
    Thanks.

Known problem. See Snippets on my site for explanation and
    workaround.

  • Printing docs

I can no longer print docs sent or downloaded to me in Adobe.  This has been going on for about 4 months, and prior to that there was no problem using the system.  The documents show on my screen as printing, but nothing happens. The one doc i am tyring to print now says it is printing and then sAys there is an error in the doc and to contAct the person who created the pdf.  Since it is a form Used by many people, I doubt that is the problem.

I pay for tech support for my computer and contacted them.  I was told  the
Adobe file was corrupted and they installed another free program, Foxit, on
my computer.  Documents automatically default to that program now and I am
    able to run them off.
    Thanks for responding.

  • Lightroom 4 -- can't print. Just sit at "Preparing print job" forever.

    Hi guys,
I have not been able to print since lightroom 3.X. I decided to upgrade to Lightroom 4 thinking that it will get fixed but the issue is still there.
It is just sitting at Preparing print job. No movement of the bar at all. This is so frustrating. I can see a lot of posts about this but no solution.
Printing to file is also the same, just sitting there at Preparing print job, not doing anything.
Help please. I am so desperate here. Thanks guys.

I don't think it is a problem of Lr per se. Lr prints without any problems with most printers.
First of all: Can your print from other programs? If you cannot then your printer is not recognized by your OS.
In all likelihood Lr is unable to hand the file over to your printer. This can have many reasons.
I have a HP printer, too - although a different model. I ran into this problem two years ago, and the reason was that there was a paper mismatch. Paper mismatch can happen:
    a) when you specify a different paper size in Lr and in your printer dialog;
    b) when you specify a paper size that your printer doesn't recognize;
    c) when you put paper in the printer that has a different size than what is specified in Lr and/or the printer dialog.
Make sure that you specify the paper size - that corresponds to the physical size of the paper sheet - in your printer dialog and in Lr.
Make sure that your printer accepts the paper size and is not set to some default size that takes precedence.
If you do these tests it would be best to select a letter-size paper (8.5" x 11") if you live in North America, or a A4 size paper if you are in Europe (or Japan).
These paper sizes are standard and will be accepted by all printers - as far as I know.

  • Can't find printer on print server

    Macbook 10.7.4
    PS121 print server from netgear
    MP500 Canon printer
OK I can print from all my xp computers.
I can access the print server from Safari
I have tried to set up IP printing with the print server ip address 192.168.0.4 and it recognizes it as a valid IP address but does not seem to see the printer behind it.
I have boot camp running and can print from the xp side of things on the macbook. So it has got to be an config problem somewhere.
Any body have the same issue?
    Thanks
macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   print server

OK here is how I did it.
    MacBook
    Netgear Router
Linkstation Network drive acting as print server
    Windows network
    Canon Pixma MP500 printer
This took about three weeks to solve so I am trying to piece together the correct path you need to take.
Make sure you have ”on” print sharing under your “system preferences”.
Under firewall tab and the advanced tab Uncheck all “UDP,Logging and Steath.” I am going to start to turn these back on for security reasons but this is how I got it to work for me.
First I went to Printfab.net and got the print driver for the Canon MP500. This is good for Mac OSX tiger. I installed the program. At first I was not seeing the print drivers on my system. I had to get the print drivers to install so first I had to try to set up a printer. So I "Add printer" and under the name I typed "Canon PrintFab" This showed me all the the print drivers that were installed with the printfab program. It seems that once I did that they we installed so I can view them all the time in “Printer Setup Utility”.
You need to find out the path for you print driver. I was not able to actually see my print driver in the “finder viewer” but I could view the path to the directories on the networked drive. As I recall I had a netgear print server PS121 installed previously and I was able to see it. So to get the correct path name you are going to need under “finder” select network. You should then see you networked server name. Mine was “Mshome” because I am sharing this computer with three other windows based computers and I am hooking up to a windows started network. Under “mshome” I can see my network drive. Now you need to “mount the drive” so double click it and you we be asked to “select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to” I selected the “shared folder” on the drive. Now it shows up as an icon on the “finders” left side. Now highlight it and “get info” from the menu bar. Under the general line I saw “server: cifs://mshome;danr@link/share. This is what it means. “mshome” is my networked name that the print server is on. “danr” is my account name on my mac. This is the name I see in finder that has all my docs and files under. “link is the name of the network drive.
Now I went back to "add Printer" Put the protocol to "IPP" and hold down the alt key and hit the "more printers" button at the bottom. Up pulls the list and select "advanced" option. Select " Windows Printer via Samb". In the device name you will want to enter the device that the printer is called. Mine happens to be "lp" Next under “device URL” after smb:// my line looked like this smb://mshome;danr@link/lp this is the info I got previous from finder. After “mshome” there is a semi-colon no a colon. Now under “model” I selected the Printfab driver for my Canon and then hit the “add” button.
And that was it I printed a test page under the utility program to test it.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium will not print docs from computer, but will print a test page.

HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium will not print docs from computer, but will print a test page.  I continually get a message that the computer cannot communicate with the printer.   Not only will it not print docs, it will not print web pages using IE 11 or Google Chrome.
I've used Print and Scan Doctor, it always reports there are no issues and prints a test page even though I can't print anything else.
Each time I want to print, I must reboot the computer.  After reboot I have one chance to print.   This problem started February 15, 2015.
My operating system is Windows 8.1.   I have unintalled the HP software, rebooted, then reinstalled the software:
    OJ8500_A910_1315-1.exe
HP Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSdr.exe
    HPSupportSolutionsFramework-11.51.0049.msi
All versions were last downloaded on April 4, 2015.
I have a home wireless network (Ubee DDW366 router).  All other devices in the house will print to the 8500A printer without issues:  2 Toshiba laptops, 2 Android phones, and 1FireHD.
The desk top is installed with a Netgear Network card I don't know the model, but I had it tested by a PC Tech to confirm that the card is working.   The card and Windows 8.1 were installed on January 3, 2015.
I have run virus scans and malware scans.  Each time they show there are no issues with my desktop.  What kind of desktop? Specifically made to my specs from store parts. . . no brand name computer.  ASUS Motherboard P6X580 Premium.  Now I will probably get hacked!
I am at my wits end.  And it is frustrating when I need to make a print of something and the system locks up.  I often resort to screen printing to a word document to save in order to reboot. . . .but then I lose all sorts of capabilites when I salvage what I needed.  Also this is a time consumer.
This printer has served us well for two years and I have expensive cartridges waiting; another two rounds of refills.
    Help?
Addendum:  I can scan using HP Printer Assistance.  I open the HP Printer assistant, it "retrieves" info from the printer, then I select "scan a document or photo" and the printer responds.   I have no trouble with scanning.
    This question was solved.

  • Why can't I print from my ipad?

I've had my iPad for almost a year now and I like it a lot. It looks very good, it performs very well even though I'm far from reaching my goal of only taking my ipad to school, nothing else.
One important reason why this won't be the case for quite a while still is that I can't print from the iPad.
Let me explain. I make quite a number of worksheets. Being a teacher this is one of the things you do so that the students have something to write on and do exercises. Over the years there have been many of these and my initial thought was to put them all on the iPad and print them when needed. But imagine my surprise when I found out that printing from an iPad seems to be near impossible.
Other colleagues of mine got themselves cheap EEPCs and they work fine. They can access the local printer easily printing whatever they wish. But I can't do that! Unless my school buys a new Air-thingy printer from HP I just won't print there! And that just *****.
I've bought a sleek and expensive machine that is so sophisticated - that I can't use it the way I want to. And that isn't even ******** about the file system that seems to be equally messed up.
My question is, why can't I print from the iPad? Printing had been announced many times before the launch of iOS 4 and then, all of a sudden, nothing more. How can this be? Why do I have to buy additional software - which is not really cheap and far from certain to work at all - just to be able to print a few pages?
Please help me understand this, as I see it, major flaw of the iPad and iOS 5.

    Thanks guys,
I seem to have understood by now.
    To sum it up:
    - I can print with the iPad directly if the printer is Airprint compatible.
    - I can print via a number of more or less working apps.
I've downloaded some HP software for my iPad and even seem to be able to access it from some other apps, that is except Apples Pages app. Sigh! So whenever I have to make changes in my documents, I still can't print.
GoodReader on the other hand lets me send my documents to the HP app, but the app/HP won't let me print microsoft docs unless I register and send my documents over to HP where the printing prep is being made, then they send it back to me/my printer. Anyway GoodReader blows my layout apart, so I must change it on the iPad, but when I do …
    It's a big catch.
You must realize that printing really isn't that comfortable and that as a spoiled old Mac user I might be excused for wishing something more workable.
The truth seems to be that I've got to carry all those docs on a USB-stick, move them over to the Windows-machine at our school and print from there - which is what I do on a daily basis already.
All those workarounds that may or may not work (check out user comments on those printing apps!) are so annoying that my overall question remains pretty much the same.
But I could also rephrase the question: Why can't I print from the so-called best tablet office app even if I am equipped with all the apps I apparently need?
Please understand that this is not Apple-bashing in any way. This is a real problem for me in my everyday life. I won't be persuading my school to buy AirPrint printers just because of my little problem and I honestly don't want to spend more money on printing apps that seem never to even have gone through beta testing.
Still, thanks for you efforts. I guess I'll just have to wait for Microsoft Office for iPad to get that big problem solved.

  • Can't ADD printer

I believe that this started immediately after upgrading to 10.4.6, but I'm not absolutely sure of that:
Whenever I use Printer Setup Utility and reach the point of ADDing the driver for my printer (an Epson Stylus Color 777i), I always get the dreaded:
An error occurred while trying to add the selected printers.
    server-error-service-unavailable
Yes I've tried "Reset Printing System...", I've re-used the 10.4.6 Combo Updater, I've used Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions, and I followed the recommendations in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107054. I ran the Cron scripts using Cocktail (whick got hung doing that--I had to force quit the application.) Using Terminal, I followed a suggestion (which I can't now recover) to check that CUPS was running (it is, although it showed an earlier date, not today's.)
Epson has given up on me, after I followed suggestions like:
Try reconnecting the cable at both ends - ensure it is properly connected -
the printer should have a solid green light on with no red lights.
    Please go to :
    HD > Library > Printers > Epson >Inkjet Printers
There should be an icon for the 777 in there (SC777.plugin or Stylus Color
777.plugin or similar - it will mention the printer)
if the plugin isn't there please reinstall the downloaded driver.
If the plugin is there, proceed:
Double click on the Macintosh HD
in the white area on the top right, type in com.apple.print
the entries should now be found, if not please hit the RETURN key on the
    computer keyboard.
Trash all entries that come up (if any come up).
    Empty trash.
    Restart the Mac.

    category.
-Check "Epson" below the "Printer drivers" heading. (You do not need to
    install other manufacturer's packages.)
    4. Click "Install" and follow prompts to reinstall the resident Epson
printer driver package. Restart the computer after installation is
    complete.

  • Why can't I Print just a single page of a document, before this printer I could select to pint 1 pg

Everytime I print a doc, I can select to print a single page but right after that selection an HP print window opens and the only option is Start Printing or Cancle Printers. The upper border of the popup says " HP Officejet 6500 "

Thanks BDAqua. It seems so silly that it's so easy in other contexts, but it's good not to keep on trying something futile

  • Can no longer print directly from html nor to a pdf. Mac OX 10.7.4

For several weeks now whenever I try to print a document directly from Internet (html) the printer preview window doesn't show the document. I only get a black screen. I tried printing anyway thinking that there could be a problem with the preview settings of the printer but all I get is a black page. I can also not printo to PDF using the "save us" dialog. I've check all the printer' settings (including installing and desinstalling it) but everything is OK. It happens regardless of the browser (Safari or Firefox). Downloading the document to my computer also doesn't solve the problem: it downloads but when I attempt to open the document an error messsage pops-up saying that the file is corrupted and can not be opened.
I have no problem at all when I try to print any kind of document saved on my computer: The preview on the printer dialog shows the actual document. The result is the desired one (the printed doc) and I can also print to PDF by clicking the "PDF" button on the printer's dialog screen. So far the only provisional solution I have found is to take a screen-shot and then print it. The problem comes when you have to scroll down a document you want to print. In this case the screen-shot is useless.
    Details:
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Acrobat 10.1.4
    Printer: HP Officejet all-in-one 7310 (5C2DCA)
Using wifi to connect to printer
Thank you in advance for your help!

This preview window - is it the one in Acrobat 10.1.4 when you choose to print a PDF (or a PDF made from an HTML)? If it's a preview in a browser, this seems like maybe a Mac OS problem; Acrobat doesn't make that preview.

  • Missing Topics in Printed Doc

I am losing my mind! I am trying to generate printed doc for
the sole purpose of sorting a bunch of pages in hard copy to
rethink the organization of one part of my projects. Ironically,
every time I generate the printed doc (i've done it about 20 times
so far), these pages are nowhere to be found! I've included them in
the TOC, I've moved them out of a book within a book, I've deleted
them from the TOC and added them to a book that is generated as a
chapter. I've renamed the book to remove non-alpha characters. I've
deleted the book and created a new book with a completely unrelated
name. NOTHING I do will get these pages to print. SO - I have 175
pp. document of the 175 pages that DONT need to be printed and I
can't for the life of me print the +/-20 pages that are the ones I
    want in hard copy.

first, I am using RH version X5.0.2.
    1. On your Project tab, all the way at the bottom, open the
Single Source Layouts directory. Double click on Printed
    Documentation.
    2. Set up your doc name, path, and build expression as
    needed. Click on Next.
    3. This next window is where you can select any or all topics
to include in the printed doc. It defaults, I believe, to all
topics and chapters. Just select each chapter or topic you do not
want and click on the left-pointing arrows to move these topics out
of the list on the right side of the window. Only the topics and
chapters listed in the right side (under chapter layout) will
print. This selection window works much like the Browse Sequencer
    tool.
    4. When all appropriate topics are excluded / included, click
on Next. In this window, you are establishing the sections of the
resulting doc - set up sections as needed. If you aren't publishing
this doc for distribution (just for yourself), I wouldn't worry too
much about this step. Click on Next.
    5. The last step before the doc generates is to determine
which Styles set you will use - the styles you use in RH, or a Word
Style set. Again, since this is just for you, don't sweat it. I
just use the Project's CSS Styles (select this option from the menu
at the top of the window).
    6. Click on Finish, let 'er rip, and see what comes out.

Well, the ability to convert the pdf to html and then to PDF is a worthy solution.
10,000 emails would require a batch convert solution.
This is very much beyond what I know. I'll have to leave this to better minds.
I could suggest a third party tool. Have a look at this:
    http://a-pdf.com/faq/can-i-split-pdf-file-with-nonstandard-page-size.htm
Other than that,I can't think of anything else.

  • Conditional build for chm and printed doc produce different outputs

    I'm using RoboHelp HTML 9.0.2.271
In my TOC, I have two "books" of topics that I want to exclude from output because the topics won't be required at this time.
I right-clicked each book in the TOC and applied a condition ("Defer").
For the HTML Help (.chm), I made my build expression say NOT Defer and NOT Comment.
    I generated the help.
The two books (and their topics) were excluded, as I expected.
For printed documentation (.doc), I made my build expression say NOT Defer and NOT Comment and NOT Online.
    I generated the Word doc.
The two books were NOT excluded; they appeared in the printed doc.
The workaround is to delete them from the Chapter Layout window when I generate the printed doc, but I expected that since my build expression said to NOT include them, that they wouldn't be included.
Is my method wrong, or is it my expectation?

You're right (of course!).  My .chm file does actually contain those topics.
So, applying a condition to a TOC entry and then excluding it in the build has this effect:
HTML Help file (.chm):  Now the topic entry will not appear in the TOC. The topic itself still exists in the .chm file, though, and you can find it by searching.
Printed output (Word):  There doesn't seem to be any effect. That topic entry still appears in the Word TOC and the topic itself still exists in the .doc (or .docx) file.
So, to exclude a topic, I have to place the condition on the topic itself, by either right-clicking the topic in Project Manager and applying the condition or by opening the topic and applying the condition. Then I have to exclude that condition in the build.
Do I have it right yet? :-)

  • Name on print doc for Physical inventory.

    Hi All,
When our user run the  Trx MI21 for printing the PI doc ... Print doc contains "created by XYZ user " .  The XYZ user is not exist in the system . The PI doc belongs to year 2004.
Is it possible to get the ''created by " on the print doc  other than the user XYZ  who created PI .
    Regards,
    Amara

the created by is the user who has created the PI doc e.g. with MI01 or MI31 transaction.
The one who executes MI21 does not do anything to the document than printing an already existing document that was created by a different user.
Of course an ABAPer can do all kind of changes to form and programm, but do you really think that it is worth for documents that were created back in 2004?
