Can't print using Word for Mac 2004 to any printer

I bought a MacMini in January and a MacBook in June, Still using Word for Mac I bought years ago. When I try to print documents, only a line or two prints, sometimes not even that. I've tried printing from the Mini to an Epson Workforce 500 and from the MacBook to a Ricoh 6400. Very frustrating, and I have to get syllabi printed for classes.

I just googled word for mac 2004 and found the requirements "10.2.8 or higher". There were quite a few changes in Snow Leopard, so a lot of applications which still would work with Leopard no longer work with SL. I also checked this site for SL compatibility and it is not even listed:

  • Can I use Word for Mac 2004 to write basic solver/Macros programs?

I just bought the new macbook aluminum unibody. I am in college and am taking computer programming in fall, I need to be able to write basic programs that utilize macros and solver. I spoke with one mac person who told me I would need to buy parallels, the microsoft OS and then microsoft word for Microsoft OS.
However, that costs upwards of 200$ for a class I am only going to be taking for 2 months. Someone else has told me that the 2004 version of Word for Mac has macros abilities on it (those that are not on the current version, but that the 2011 version will have). Can I just use the 2004 version? Or does anyone have other suggestions?

Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • I'm using Word for Mac. Though there are various instructions on the Internet for modifying the templates, none make sense to me. They instruct to do something I can't follow. I change a template but can't save it to the template folder.

    What the ****.
OK, I try to change a template using Word for Mac version 14.3.4 2011 edition.
I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

  • When I send an attachment using Word for MAC people have a hard time opening it with a PC. Can I do anything different?MAC

When I try to send an attachment using Word for MAC people have a hard time opening it with a PC. Can I do anything different?

shldr2thewheel already sent a teach-yourself way. Perhaps you could be more specific: any .doc file written in Mac OS is opened with difficulty? what version of Office on mac and what version in windows? any format, e.g. .doc or .rtf? Even a simple rtext of, say, 2-3 pages? or only long docs, e.g. 100 pages or more? what language is used? English or any other West European, Latin based text, or other scripts too? What do you understand by ‘people have a hard time opening it with a PC?’ takes a very long time? or does not open at all? etc. etc.

  • I'm running Adobe 9 pro on snow leopard and when I save or print from word for mac 14 the bottom gets cuts off

I'm running Adobe 9 pro on snow leopard and when I save or print from word for mac 14 the bottom gets cuts off. Can someone help?

Ah! You're creating a PDF out of Word through Acrobat. The cutoff is most likely being affected by the printer chosen.
When you call up the print dialogue in Word, check to see what printer is being used. If it's a typical inkjet printer, Acrobat is using the print margins of that printer as the cutoff area. Since most such printers can't print to the last inch and half or so of the paper, that's where it would be cut off.
Near the bottom, under the preview of the document, click on the Page Setup button. It doesn't really matter which printer you select here. Under Paper Size, choose Manage Custom Sizes. Under the Non-Printable Area heading, choose the same printer and set the paper size you're using.
Note that the unprintable margins for that printer will be filled in automatically. That's what's being cut off. Click the + button to create a modified version. The default will be "Untitled". Give it a new name if you want. Then set all of the margins to zero. Click OK. Now you'll have that as a choice under Paper Size. Doesn't matter that the actual printer can't use this setting since you're going to a PDF. Click OK to get back to the main Word print dialogue.
Now choose Save as Adobe PDF. It should give you an exact duplicate of what's on screen in Word since as far as Acrobat is concerned, your "printer" has no unprintable margins.

In answer to your direct question: An outline level is normally part of a paragraph style in Word. It can be body text, or a heading level.
The articles listed are about different Windows versions of Word but AFAIK, they apply to Mac versions as well.

  • How do I send a fax using Word for Mac Lion?

I have an iMac with Lion 10.7.4 and use Microsoft Word for Mac 2011.  My internet connection is Broadband ADSL.
I wish to periodically send a fax - in days gone by I have used PageSender.
    Any suggestions?

Can you send a fax over that line? I don't think so. I think you'll have to purchase a fax modem, maybe like this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/USRobotics-USR5637-FaxModem-Windows-Linux/dp/B0013FDLM0
I assume it installs a "printer" that is actually a fax driver. You would then print to that "printer". Whether that's how it works or not, I'm sure the fax modem comes with some utility for sending faxes through it.

  • Printing in Word for Mac: strange result

Today I tried a simple thing like printing a word page from app Word for mac. Usually I obtain a normal print. But today the result is quite strange: the page is printed in an over stretched form, characters seem stretched in vertical, but with some line missing. I tried to reinstall the Office suite, but same result obtained. I only got to have the page printed by exporting it into iPhoto and printing from there...
    Printer HP deskjet 920 C
all settings ok, since printing a sample page from printer driver works fine.
    Thanks in advance for helping.

First I would try trashing the MS Word preferences file. That is located at Home>Library>Preferences>com.microsoft.word.plist. Then try again.

  • Spelling/grammar error notification in Word for Mac 2004

Is there a way to set up Word so that a sound will indicate an error as you are typing?
    Thanks!

    Hi Leslie .....
As you know you can setup MS Word for mac to underline "in RED" during typing the misspelled word.
Right click on it and "chance it" if not in the suggested word list you can added the word to your wordbook.
But, I think that you did know this already ...
*Also the question you put is here can be very annoying during typing ... to hear every time a "SOUND" would get you out of your concentration, by this way you could make more mistakes as usually*
It's up to you IF you still looking for a script or anything else to check misspelled words.

  • Does Pages alleviate the problem of bloated pdf files created when using Word for Mac?

I am finishing up my PhD dissertation and need to convert it to a .pdf file to be able to send it via email, however, as many are probably aware, when making pdfs directly from Word for Mac the pdf files are enourmous!  If I move the document over to a Windows machine, the pdf is managable, but with all the little formatting details of a thesis, it screws up enough that it will be torture to have to fix it.  I will glady get Pages (I was going to switch after my defense anyway) if I can make a pdf that is not 140 MB (my thesis .docx file is a little over 500MB)!

In Pages you have the option to export to Pdf and can choose between good, better and best versions. Beware though it is often the images that will lose in resolution. This is what the Pages User Guide says:
If you’re exporting to PDF, you must choose an image quality (a higher image quality results in a larger PDF file):
Best: Image resolutions are not scaled down.
Better:          Images are downsampled to 150 dpi. Images without transparency (alpha
    channel) are JPEG-compressed by 0.7.
Good:          Images are downsampled to 72 dpi. Images without transparency (alpha channel) are JPEG-compressed by 0.9.

  • HT4864 My outgoing email as stopped working when using Outlook for mac 2011. Any suggestions?

My outgoing email as stopped working when using Outlook for mac 2011. I have deleted and reinstalled the account twice. I have 11 gig free on my iCloud account. The outgoing server is set at smtp.mail.me.com using port 587. If I was able to reinstall the account, I am positive I have the correct password. I can log into my iCloud accout using the same credentials.
    Any suggestions?

I called Microsoft to fix my problem...for those maybe having the same issue, I was told by the Tech to use this outgoing server setting - p06-smtp.mail.me.com
All is working fine since doing so.
