Can't read microsoft email from friends

Hello All,
I'm new to mac and computers. My friends all have PCs and I have a new eMac.
They send me email that includes pictures that were created or put together in Microsoft programs. When I go to look at the attachment an icon pops up that says I have to buy Microsoft Word or other programs.
Is there anything I can do for free to see these, can my friends do something on their end to make it easier for me?

What program are you using for mail? If Apple's Mail, check the Mail area of the Discussions for setting Helper applications to open Microsoft Office files.
You can try saving the attachments to a temporary items folder, then use a program you do have to open the file, clearing or saving the temporary folder contents as you wish afterwards. TextEdit will open MicroSoft Word .doc files. Preview can handle Windows .BMP images. You can ask you friends to send any images as JPEG (which has the advantage of being considerablly more compressed than BMP so the files will take up less space in your inbox). Or invest US$35 in Graphic Converter.
If your friends are sending you PowerPoint slideshows, don't bother looking for an equivalent of the free Windows PowerPoint Viewer 2003; Microsoft hasn't updated their Mac version, PowerPoint Viewer 98, since the days when OS 9 was still a gleam on the horizon. Your eMac should have a copy of AppleWorks; use that to open the slideshow. Or download OfficeOffice instead. Or use Apple's Keynote if you have that.

Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem. Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File", then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu.    I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine.   The Browse Backups opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine. I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day.   I then clicked "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen.   Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal.   When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1). I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend.   I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu, when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library.   Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.
I don't know if any of this will be of help to you because your email says you are having trouble with photos imported after the upgrade was performed.   Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto, that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto?     If so have you clicked "upgrade"?
Good luck Liz, if you have Time Machine running as a back up to your library, maybe you wil be able to get help there, by following my instructions above.   Otherwise,   good luck with your investigations.   I'd be interested in hearing how you make out.

Hi! I have saved all my outlook emails from my PC to a hard drive and want to view them on my macbook. Do i have to buy the full office/outlook software package or is there another way to read them?
I have word and xls on my mac from buying the student office package... but want to avoid buying it all again if i can just read the emails on another reader or just buy the outlook email software...

- first go to Help >> Seach examples... and search for pop mail, no doubt you'll find somtehing.
- then have a look at that thread, there are some informations you might want to know before coding

In which case, clearly communicating the intent would have been a better solution. The steps do apply. A more appropriate response would have been "tried that, no change".
Regardless of whether they fixed the problem or not, they do apply.
If English is not your native language, I would strongly encourage you to post in your native language going forward.
If basic troubleshooting has not resolved the issue, the next step is to take the device to Apple for evaluation.

Can no longer send email from my accounts but can receive

I have 5 email accounts set up on my imac. 3 are mine 2 are my partners. I can no longer send emails from my accounts but my partner still can. They all still receive mail but when I attempt to send mail I get:-
Cannot Send Message Using Server
Then i'm asked to select a different server from a list. I have tried all but to no avail.
I first of all deleted my partners sky.com account because it appeared to me that this was maybe overiding all other accounts and it was no longer needed on imac.
I then deleted one of my accounts - hotmail, to see if i added it again maybe it would work but now I cant even re add the mail account as everytime i go to mail, preferences account to set it up again the initial screen comes up with my partners details including the sky.com username and when i overwrite these and try to install hotmail acount I get told that logging in failed check user name and password is correct. Which they are.
All used to work fine but now I have these problems, they appeared to have started when my partner set up an icloud account and is synching with this - could this be the cause?

First,
I'd run all availiable software updates. After that, I would try removing all of the accounts from "Mail", and then re-adding them. Be aware that if your folders and such are located on your mac, and not on the mail servers, you may risk lose some information (always have a back-up).
Sometimes, when you have a number of e-mail account there can be server issues abound. I would go into the server lists and make sure that they are set properly. If you see the "use only this server" box, check it for each of them.

when any user sends a message using contact us page in SharePoint online.
1. We are inserting item in Contact Us List . - This is working fine
for anonymous users also. We have used Office365 anonymous codeplex wsp and it is working fine. Anonymous user is able to insert new record in the Contact Us List.
2. Once, new record is inserted in Contact Us list, we want to fire email notifying thanks to the user on his email id as well as to our company x person for notification of new inquiry.
We tried using Workflow having impersonation step for anonymous user but it is not working for Anonymous users. Workflow is able to sent the email if someone logged into system but not working for Anonymous user although workflow is getting started
but not able to send email although used Imperonsation step.
We are stuck into implementing second step.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.

Assuming you have the 2011 version the easiest way is go to Microsoft's Web site and download Mac Office 2011 onto your MacBook Air and then run it. If you have the 2008 (or the 2011) version on disc you can turn on DVD sharing in the Sharing control panel of your MBP and install it by remotely sharing your MBP's DVD.
Since Microsoft uses activation when you start Office on the new computer if you use the same activation code as you used on the MBP you'll probably get a message to call Microsoft. Do so and just explain that you got a new computer.

We'll I don't think there's a easy way to delete a lot of emails besides deleting all of them. To delete all of them click on inbox them edit then "mark all" then trash/delete. Other than that you will have to specifically deleted the ones you want to delete.
