Can't render out of Motion 5 - it's all corrupted!!

Hi all,
Any help greatly appreciated - it doesn't matter what I do, everything I render out of the new Motion is totally corrupted - sample frame below (all look a little like this):
Nasty!
Everything looks great up until render. Tried numerous compressor/size variations, always the same.
Motion 4 still renders out fine.
Running a Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD 4870
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Thanks Guys.
Don't think it's a project problem as this happens using templates, and stuff of my own creation. I've got a feeling it might be a hardware thing too.
I'm running two graphics cards:
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (DVI and Display Port monitoring)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (No displays connected)
I'm additionally running a Blackmagic intensity pro card for monitoring (which isn't of course currently supported by Motion 5 / FCP X).
I came accross this article :
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3842
which although promising, didn't help me as I removed my secondary monitor connection and the same thing happend.
Very interestingly, as you sugguested, as a test I applied some effects on a timeline in FCP X, and the render becomes corrupt as the effects are applied:

  • Adobe Media Encoder can´t render out AE Ray-Trace Composition

    Hey,
AME can´t render out my composition (or sequence if i include the comp in a PP sequence) which includes some 3D stuff.
I am able to render it out in AE in a few minutes, preview it easily in AE and even in PP but i´m not able to render it out in AME or PP.
AME says it would take like 10+ Hours to render it and doesn´t come to an end.
I tried multiple encoding settings but nothing worked.
Also i checked, that cuda rendering is enabled in all my Adobe programs, but nothing helped...
    AE File .aep :

    Thanks for helping,
    Johannes

It raises another question: what settings do I need to encode the comp in 720p resolution without taking up lots of space?
Well, it depends on whether you need a production master (something for broadcast, for example, or to use as a source for other encoding tasks) or if you want a version for distribution. If it's the former, there's nothing wrong with "lots of space" - A Quicktime file with PNG or Animation codec is a good idea, but it will take a lot of space. If it's the latter, H264 is perfect but there's no built-in preset to take 720 material to the web.
    You could do this:
    * Pick the generic H264 template. You'll see that it will give an error if you attempt to render, because the default setting uses an H264 profile/level which doesn't let you use HD resolutions.
    * In the H264 video options, set the "Profile" menu to "Main" and "Level" to 4.0. That will keep it compatible to Quicktime and Flash player, while allowing larger frame sizes and higher bit rates.
    * Set Target Bitrate to 5-8 Mbps and Maximum Bitrate to 9-10 Mbps if you're targetting web delivery. That's a bit over what Apple uses for 720p content on the Apple TV, for example.
The H264 original preset will instruct you in the comment field to stretch to 640x480 in Output Module. There's no need, since you are using a profile/level combination which allows higher frame sizes.

  • Can't render out 1.44 pixel ratio for SD 16:9 UK TVC broadcast requirements ?

I'm prepping a TV advert for broacast in the UK and the station require an SD 16:9 1.44 pixel ratio 720x576 (1024x576), the problem is this just doesn't seem possible in after effects or any adobe porduct I can see ?
The only thing I can do is render out a 1.46 pixel ratio 720x576 (1050x576) version.
Any help on this would be greatly apreciated !

1.44 is actually wrong according to the specifications. The PAR for NTSC footage is also wrong. There's an article somewhere on the Adobe site that explains the decision and there's an article by Chris and Trish Meyer on the subject. Adobe changed it to be more, not less compliant. It wasn't that long ago and we were working with 640 X 480 as the standard video size for digital production. The very best workflow is to work in square pixels anyway and only squeeze the image as a final step. And as I said before, there are dozens of codecs that don't even have a spot in their container to define PAR. For some it's like trying to add PPI info to a .gif -
What codec do they require? What data rate? Where's the white paper. I'd be glad to read it. In practical terms, and for every network from the US, to France, to Japan, that I've ever submitted work to, match their request for delivery format and they never look back. They just take your money and play your stuff. Only once in more than 40 years of submitting programming to television did I have to send a network a different file or tape.
You can't be the only AE artist producing for broadcast in the UK. I've been in television since 1969 and was one of the first utilizers of desktop production in a major US market. It's about scan lines and timeing (frame size). Go to Angie Taylors's blog and ask her the question. She's one of the top AE artists and trainers in the UK.

  • How can i figure out the beats per minute of all the songs on my itunes list?

I am a runner and would like to know the beats per minute of each song on my playlist.  Is there any app that is compatible with itunes so that I could get this information and easily upload it?

The mentioned BeaTunes is nice... I've also used Tangerine.  You'll find that scanning one song with one app and scanning the same song with a different app will produce different results.  I'd just recommend being consistent and using the same app once you'd played with them to determine your favorite.
Mixmeister also has a few different levels of software for DJ type stuff.

I see the songs I want to buy and the price at the end.   If I scoll down from the price ...  there is no BUY OPTION.
There is GIFT IT and Add to Wishlist.... but nothing about Buy.

  • Motion videos render out blurry

    Maybe someone could help me.
I've been creating title bars in Motion to use for sermons. I simply place them at the bottom of the screen. Nothing fancy. When I export the file and place it in FCP, for some reason the Motion video seems to be blurry, and I can't figure out why. I save it as a lossless movie preset in the export window. here are my save settings.
    In export options:
    Video/Audio tab
    VIDEO
    Kind: Quicktime Movie
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Quality: 100%
    Start Number: 0 (Greyed out)
    AUDIO
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz (Files don't have sound, so it doesn't matter)
    OUTPUT TAB
    Resolution: Full 720x486
    Color: color + alpha
    frame rate: 29.97
In my preferences, under the output tab, it reads:
    ANTIALIASING: Best
Video Output: none (Update during playback and update dynamically during parameter change are not checked).
still in preferences, under the presets tab, I have my project preset as NTSC DV and in the export preset I don't have anything checked.
I realize it's a lot of information, but I'm hoping someone can tell me what setting is off so that my motion files will be crisp. Also, I just need to make a title bar that i can pull into FCP and drop on top of an existing file, but when I save the title bar it gives me a black background. If someone could clue me in on how to make the background transparent, it would really help.
    Thanks all!
    Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 (3.1)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First - don't export to get the file into FCP. Just save the Motion project, and import it into FCP and place it over your clip in the timeline on another track. That gives you 2 advantages - one, you don't have to render twice (from Motion, then FCP), so the quality is much better, and two, you get an alpha channel with it.
DV video does NOT support an alpha channel. You can never get a transparent background from anything you export using a DV or DV-related (such as DVCPRO or DVCPROHD) NTSC or PAL codec in QuickTime. This is not a Motion limitation, just the way DV works. If you ever need to export something from Motion and you want a transparent background, always use a codec that supports alpha channels, such as the Animation codec (which you can get by selecting the "Lossless+Alpha" export preset in Motion, no need to go into the options dialog to do this).

  • Hi, I can't figure out why I can't render on my timeline. I highlight the segment hit "Apple-R" and it gives me a weird message about "conforming HDV video...." and the bar goes as far as 60-66% and holds there forever. It never renders even partially.

Yes, I know. I have been working with HDV for some time. I am wondering why it doesn't render when it needs to.. the red and bright-green lines are above, and I've set the render settings such that ANYTHING I highlight and hit apple-R will render. But its not rendering at all.

  • How do I render out in Animation codec from Motion 5 ?

Hi - Just got Motion 5 and I noticed that to render out there don't seem to be as many codec options for Quicktime as in previous versions of Motion. Am I missing something here? For eg there doesn't seem to be any way to render out in Animation codec.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks a lot! Yeah I just bought compressor - which is great in itself but still prefer if it was integrated into motion itself.
Oh well.. It lets apple sell more product.
    Cheers!

  • "AE error: render can't continue -- out of disk space on all overflow volumes."

    Hi !
I get this message when trying to render (no matter what format I use)
"AE error: render can't continue -- out of disk space on all overflow volumes."
So ... I googled it, and the only thing I could find was, that I should change my preferences (overflow volumes and select drive), BUT I can't find overflow volumes in pref.? (CS 5.5, windows).
But why this error all of a sudden? I haven't changed anything and normally AE works fine.

At the risk of stating the obvious, that sounds like the hard drive you're trying to render to is full or almost full.  Did you check to see if there's enough space for your render on that drive?  Depending on the codec you choose and the length of the comp you're trying to render, the file size could be huge and it might not fit on your hard drive even if it looks like you have enough space.  If you're render is stopping in the middle, that could be the reason why.  How much space is on the drive you're trying to render to and what are your render settings?  Maybe a screenshot of the following info as it shows up in your Render Queue would be useful:

  • How to render out JUST Alpha in Media Encoder

So apparently Adobe has changed their settings in CC 2014 and Adobe After Effects no longer has the H.264 container, and is only offered as a codec for Qucktime. I've been told I have to go into Adobe Media Encoder for the H.264 codec. That's fine, problem is that Adobe Media Encoder does not really have any options for Alpha. From my understanding you have to set it to 32bpc for it to do alpha in a file, which did not seem to work, but that's irrelevant now because that's not what I need. I need to render out two files for a batch list, one with just RGB files and one with just alpha. I talked to someone from Adobe and they suggested I post here. Let me know if you need details.
    Thank you very much.

Just to be clear, and reiterate what Kevin state: H.264 (.mp4) files do not have the capability of storing an alpha channel. They are RGB only.
But that doesn't sound like a blocking issue for your workflow; you're already preparing to use an RGB file and a separate file with a black/white alpha matte for compositing at playback time.
Another point to make clear: the controls in the Composition viewer panel in After Effects have no affect on the rendered output. AME will read the comp as if these controls don't exist. Even the After Effects render queue by default will ignore these settings, though you can change some of the controls in the Render Settings dialog to respect the Comp viewer settings (ie., Current Settings). AME doesn't have this capability for After Effects comps, currently.
Third point: AME doesn't have the capability to produce an alpha-channel-only video, like After Effects does. This is regardless of what type of source you're using, After Effects comp, Premiere Pro sequence, or other.
Fourth point: please submit a feature request for any functionality you'd like to see added to AME, or After Effects: http://adobe.ly/feature_request
For your workflow the best thing will probably be to do what Jeff recommends: have After Effects render your comp to two Output Modules, one with RGB and one with Alpha, in a lossless format and then have AME encode the files to your final delivery format. This can be automated with watch folders.

  • Premiere 1.5.1 HDV capture questions ( Can't render, can't open in after effects )

I downloaded the patch which allowed Premiere Pro 1.5 to work with HDV footage. I hooked up my Canon XL1s and captured the footage. Everything seemed to be working fine. I moved into After Effects to begin doing some work  on a shot, and After Effects would not open the .avi, I would get an error that read "No such compressor exists" ( Or very close to it ). I thought perhaps AE would not open the file type so I went back into Premiere to render out a quicktime or something familiar. However, premiere pro would only allow me to export files as CineForm, which AE does no recognize. I don't understand what the problem is, why can't I export my captured footage from Premiere as a quicktime, or jpeg sequence, etc?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the welcome, Eddy!
I should have mentioned the Media Encoder, sorry about that. I am using the Adobe Media Encoder, but for some reason I am only getting streaming options when I try to export a quicktime file. Not HD formats. Also, I tried an mpeg 2 export but windows media player played the  file without an image and after effects would not import it. I'm sure there is some obvious reason this is occuring, but I'm new to HD editing/compositing and I can't seem to get my head around it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Render out to QT problems

    Hi
Shot/editing a seq in HDV 1080i 60, all my MOTION files are the same, looks good in timeline...my render control codec is Apple Pro RES 422...now when I render out the QT movie with the current settings I get this horrible double image on all movements of my FCP keyframed GFX (such as a box moving from left to right and bouncing as it hits the edges of the screen, etc), I guess this is interlacing problem, all my MOTION files have the same issue...
SO, how to eliminate this problem? Have a look at the images...
    http://web.mac.com/kbcv/VideoWork/test.html
    Thanks
    k

    Thanks Jerry
The box GFX is just a jpeg moving using FCP keyframing and the text which I did in MOTION is same seq settings as FCP seq. So there's no way to change just the GFX field dom, and my seq is upper field both FCP and Motion. I captured HDV and am using HDV seq settings, outputting same settings - should I next time capture my HDV footage at Pro RES and set my seq to Pr Res as well? Would this fix the problem?
In the meantime, what to do re: this bad look.

  • How to render out with an alpha channel

I want to render out a QuickTime animation so I can layer it over some video in Final Cut Pro. How do I get an Alpha channel in the video. Have tried the Animation Codec but that doesn't do it. Which codec should I use?

  • How can I make a stop motion animation using Premiere Elements 13?

I am trying to make a stop motion animation with a series of still shots. So far I have managed to speed up the shots so that I have one frame per second but this is still not fast enough and I can't work out how to make them go any faster!
I am working on a class project with my 8/9 year olds and the project has stalled at this point because I can't get past this hurdle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    yogawithlexi,
    Welcome to the forum.
Im also needing to just edit the photos but adding text. Nothing fancy. I just want to make some flyers.
For editing photos, to be output to the printed page (whether by a commercial printing service, or a desktop printer), I strongly recommend Photoshop Elements (PsE).
If you need to output to a video file, then Premiere Elements (PrE) can possibly do what you want, but not for the printed page - at least not easily, and with the ultimate results. First, Video is not dependent on DPI/LPI (Dots Per Inch, or Lines Per Inch), where printed material will be. Also, while PrE can output a Still Image, the quality, when printed, will be far less, than what one can obtain with PsE.
Do you currently have Photoshop Elements on your computer, or only Premiere Elements?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Render out a blend mode

is there any way to render out a blend mode layer so when it's on normal it still looks like the blend mode with the transparency etc...
I want to export some design to .png files to use in a web page, and I need the blend mode to work with out the photoshop background. I don't think you can use blend mode in HTML, CSS or Dreamweaver.

Simply - no. Blend modes will only work within Photoshop files. Outside Photoshop they need to be rendered onto opaque or transparent pixels, to retain their appearance.
Its really impossible to tell with compete certainty, without a more detailed explanation. (which mode, whats it interacting with) But the answer, again in case you didnt hear it first time, is likely to be … no
