can't save any file with any name-file DBTmp4376-863643269 is damaged (error code:0)
InDesign CC, OS version 10.9.1
I explored solutions to failure in background task alert which did not work. Been using adobe products since they came on the scene. Nothing like this. Please help.

I'm using version 9.2.
Yes, it started with a new file. Support gave me the solution to save it to my desktop which worked. When I put it back in the original folder and opened/save it would not save to that folder. Created a new folder and was able to open & save to the new folder. That seems to be a workable solution. How a folder can become corrupt is a bit scarey.
In experimenting with solutions I received another error "failure in background task alert" and discovered CS5 problems with background task.
However the solutions for CS5 did not work in my incidence.
I sure would like to prevent this from happening again. If you have any insights please share them. Otherwise I will just accept the experience as another computer workaround and be thankful that I have it.

- Ho aperto il file e selezionato il Livello al centro per iniziare a registrare una azione che ho chiamato: Save with Name of Selected Layer
- Nuova azione
- Dare il nome e premere Registra
Ora salva…
- Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
- Ancora una volta Menu --> Livello... --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
- Menu --> Livello --> Ordina --> Dietro
- Menu --> Livello --> Unisci sotto
- Menu --> Livello --> Unisci visibili
- Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
- Menu --> Livello - Nascondi Livello
- Menu --> Elimina --> Elimina livelli nascosti (press -Yes-)
- Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... Inserisci questo: 'Move this to the trash' e premi ok

Per ottenere l’obiettivo occorre un nuovo passo ed a proposito di questo riferisco quanto segue:
ATTENZIONE - L’operazione descritta qui di seguito deve essere fatta su di una copia del file, per cui:
- Duplicare il file,
- Spostare l’originale in altra cartella
- Lavorare sul file duplicato.

First of all, I'm translating the actions that I made using the Italian version of Photoshop, you look at the position of the menu that I have chosen to do the work with other languages.

- New action

- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Once again Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Menu -> Layer - > Arrange (order) -> Behind
- Menu -> Layer - > Merge Down
- Menu -> Layer - > Merge Visible
- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Menu -> Layer - Hide Layer
- Menu - > Delete - > Delete hidden layers (press -Yes- )
- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… Enter this: ' Move this to the trash ' and press ok
- Menu -> File - > Scripts -> Export Layers To Files... (In the window that opens select the option you want, but take away the name prefix) and press - Run -

- Duplicate the file
- Move the original folder to another
- Work on the duplicate file.

In Pages how do I save a file with another name?

I don't know if there is a less cumbersome way to do this (I'm still pretty new to Lion) but This is what I do - since "Save As" seems to be gone with Lion.
I create a duplicate document - then click the red button to close the document - and a dialog box pops up and asks if you want to save the changes - I change the name in there and then save the file under the new name.
You can also save the copy to the desktop - get info - and then change the name if the finder window.
I copied this from the Pages help area. These help instructions were created pre-Lion I'm sure.
Saving a Copy of a Document
If you want to make a copy of your document—to create a backup copy or multiple versions, for example—you can save the document using a different name or location. (You can also automate saving a backup version, as Automatically Saving a Backup Version of a Document describes.)
To save a copy of a document:
Choose File > Save As and specify a name and location.
The document with the new name remains open. To work with the previous version, choose File > Open Recent and choose the previous version from the submenu.

There is no 'Save as' under the file menu. How do I save a file with another name?

Numbers help refers to the 'Save As' function in the File menu. My version (latest) does not have a 'Save As' function. How do I save a file with another name?

For the situation you describe, Apple has provided Duplicate and Revert. Use File > Duplicate to reach this menu:

Batch processing: save processed file with same name to different location without moving the original

Hi, I would like to denoise Voice Over files with help of Auditions Batch Process. However, I have to save the files with the same name as the original, so that I can simply relink them in Premiere. Since I do want to keep the originals, I would like to save the processed files to a different location.
Unfortunately, Batch Processor adds " Copy" to the processed files and moves the originals along with the processed files to the new folder (causing Premiere to loose the original files).
Can I achieve my goal with Batch Processor, and how would I have to configure it?

Which version of Audition are you using? The latest ones allow you to specify where the batched files are saved and also if any Prefix or Postfix are added to the file name. These are all under Export Settings in the Batch Process pane. However you must have the Export box ticked to give you access to the settings.

Hello there people,i decided to learn LATEX but vi won't let me save my files with the tex extension.It says:
"test.tex" E212: Can't open file for writing
Does anyone know why vim is denying to save it with this extension?Please help!

I just noticed that when i'm in /home/sepuku i'm able to save the files normally.But i created a directory specially for latex!
So when i cd /home/sepuku/latexprojects i can't save anything.I think that this has something to do with the permissions maybe?And how to i make my user able to copy/paste/remove /edit/create files and dirs? :S
ls -al test.tex returns:

I was passed-off a CS3 InDesign file with a 20+ InDesign Plug-ins added to it and it says it won't open without the extensions. Is there any a way for me to open the file without finding all the plug-ins, downloading and adding them to my system?

Maybe I think it is CS3 and it's not. On my desktop it has the purple InDesign icon so I thought it meant that it was CS3. Thre are two alert boxes that pop up when I try to open the file. The first one says plug-ins are missing, do you want to open? I clicked OK. The next one says upgrade plug-ins to latest versions or latest version of INdesign.
Is there any way to open it? How do I know for sure what version it was created in? The Get Info box says it is an InDesign CS3 Document.

Can't Overwrite Existing Files with Same Name - Likely a Mail Error?

Couldn't find this on the forum... Hope I can explain this properly.
When I design something and send a proof I will send a PDF through mail. When the revises come in I used to be able to just overwrite the existing files on my desktop and re-send through mail. But now programs won't let me overwrite files with the same name anymore. Basically the program says "overwrite existing file?" but then say "file is in use. Can't overwrite."
Back in Leopard this used to happen when I would have a mail draft open that used the data of the file I sent or was about to send. I would just have to save the mail message as a draft and the file was "no longer in use" so I could proceed as usual. But now it does this all the time regardless.
Did this make sense? It's kind of hard to explain... But basically now when I want to send a revised file (and this can happen dozen of times in a day) I have to trash the existing file I want to overwrite. Or rename the file, which is confusing for me and my clients.
Any thoughts?

I have the same situation as you - sending out pdfs of designed pages and wanting to overwrite them continually. It used to happen on an older version of Mail, then it disappeared and now it's back with the latest version.
It's more than annoying, it's downright driving me nuts. In the last hour I had to quit Mail seven times.
Please send a fix for this Apple.

How do I save excel file with new name?

Returning to using a Mac after 20 years - so not familiar with many things.
I have an existing Excel file that I am using and making changes to... how do I save it as a new file name?
I click on the 'disk' icon on the top ribbon but that just saves it as the same file-name with an updated time-stamp... that won't work for me.

How to save PDF file with predefined name?

I am new in LiveCycle Designer. I have a requirement to save a PDF file with predefined file name. When user clicks a "Save as PDF" button, the fillable form is saved with the name from the form fields (e.g. FormID_UserID_Timesstamp...)
I added a button (btnSavePDF) to the form (Control Type=Regular). Then I added an action with the Condition:"When button is clicked" and the Result: "Save the form". I got the JavaScripts it genreated:
CoverPageForm.FormPage.btnSavePDF::click - (JavaScript, client)
app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
When I tested it in Adobe Acorbat XI, I have option to save it as .pdf or other file formats. My questions is how can I save it with the predefined file name as a .pdf file, instead user has option to change the file name or change the file format? Can app.execMemuItem() method take other parameters?

You can't do it with app.execMenuItem. You can use the doc.saveAs method, but it has to be executed in a privileged context. For your application this means a folder-level JavaScript file that would have to be installed on each user's machine or with code in a certified PDF that the users chooses to trust to allow for privileged JavaScript execution.

Can't copy over file with same name

I have a master folder with lots of photos in it (1000+). When a photo with the same name is updated elsewhere and I want to put it in the folder and overwrite the old photo, I can't do it. It just copies the new file into the folder and changes its name (adds a "2" on the end of it).
I want to replace the old file with the new one. With my old Mac this was easy to do; why can't I do this now? Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?
I could delete the old photo, then drag in the new one, but I'm dealing with a lot pf photos for a huge project, and that would take up a lot of time to do it that way.

It is supposed to give you the message, "xxx already exists, do you want to replace it".
Have you tried creating a new account and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.)
Open System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin account.
If this works, then log back into your problem account and navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Can you open ID files with any other apps?

I was a subcontractor for a printer. The printer's client requested the production files. I package the files. Five books. Each folder contains ID file, art, supplied word docs, and exported PDF. The client calls printer and says they all open but one. I open it, check it, email it. She calls me this morning to tell me the one file still won't open. I asked her what version of CS she has and she says she doesn't have InDesign. I tell her it's impossible to open ID file without ID. She goes off on me for questioning her, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, can someone tell me if it's possible she somehow opened the other 4 files somehow in some conversion app. The only thing I could think of is if they have QX and used markzware ID2QX plug in from within QX. I'm in the process of repackaging the files so all the ID files, PDFs, Word Docs, Art, Covers are all in separate folders.
For the record, I opened all 5 ID files on my PC before sending to the client so the files aren't corrupt.

My arrangement with this printer is that I surrender production files. Another part of the job was that I have to return LIVE paginated word docs to the client for future editing. In addition, the word docs are in Spanish and the client was very specific about page breaks. Furthermore, even though there are 5 books, I get Spanish word docs from 7 people. The word files come to me formatted. Almost as clean as my ID files would be. So I've been editing the word docs, exporting to PDF and placing those into ID. I paginate and add art to fill in the holes as per sample books provided. So the layout files contain nothing but PDFs and filler art. It was the only way I could think of to give the client back word docs paginated specifically as they were given to me.

Can't save illustrator file with text. Can't update, uninstall or reinstall.

I suddenly cannot save a simple illustrator file that contains any text. Also, I am unable to update, uninstall or reinstall illustrator. This is frustrating when you have projects due. Mac Mini - OS X 10.8.3

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall. Also check your fonts. You probably have a "bad" font i nthere somewhere that is corrupting all font operations.
