Can't see my Servlet/JSP outputs

{color:#0000ff}Hello there Java gurus,
I'm really excited about Java but there seems to be something i'm missing out that is slowing me down. I understand the logic behind the Servlet and JSP technologies - having context root in the webapps subdirectory of the Apache Tomcat, placing other directories like servlets, WEB-INF, classes etc in their respective places and copying .class, .xml, and .html into the proper directory of webapps subdirectories- but still I can't execute properly to view the outputs of even the simplest Servlet and JSP codes.
When I tried compiling my Servlet Java file to produce a .class file, it gave an error of "javax.servlet does not exist". What can I do again to make me execute my Servlets, because there's truely no javax.servlet in the Java subdirectory of my Program Files.
Thanks in advance for making this guy smile.

Thanks cutton_m for the response, but if you can be clearer on how to get the .jar files or any other file that'd help, i'd be happier. My jakarta-tomcat-5.0.25is successfully installed, and I really don't understand what u mean by j2ee libraries coming with the tomcat's container.
You need the jars in your classpath.
The jars came with the J2EE container - in your case tomcat.
Just what should I do to get the output of my Servlets/JSP codes viewable?Get to build first would be a start.

  • Spool file problem,Can't see the query in output file.

    Hello ,
    I am facing a very old school kind of problem .....about spool file ....
    The scenario -
    I have made a script by name DB_Status_checkup.sql which i want to fire on the database to check the database status. In this script their are many queries regarding the data dictionary views to know about the database. It consist of nearly 25-30 different select queries..
    The problem is i want to make a spool file of the output of that query....i want to see the SQL query & the output below in the spool file, so it will be easy for me to judge the result. But i can't see the SQL query , i can only see the output , & in so many queries it all gets jumbled up....even i can't understand where the next output starts ...
    Sample of my SQL Script ....
    clear buffer
    spool D:\DB_status.txt
    /*To check the database startup time*/
    Select to_char(startup_time, 'HH24:MI DD-MON-YY') "Startup time"
    from v$instance
    .........next query n so on....
    spool off;
    In the output pf the spool file at D:\db_status.txt..
    Startup time
    08:25 16-JUL-10It shows only the output of the query in the spool file not the query,
    What should i do to get the SQL query as well as the output of that query just below it in the spool file ???
    Please suggest if you have anymore ideas , regarding this .....

    Why don't you just use database control, instead of re-inventing the wheel?
    Apart from that, SQL*Plus has it's own reference manual, which you apparently refuse to read.

  • ExchangeService.TraceEnabled = true , but can't see the traces in output window

    Hello,
    I am building an Visual Studio 2013 asp.net application that uses EWS. I have enabled tracing:
                service.TraceEnabled = true;
                service.TraceFlags = TraceFlags.All;
    I expect so see the EWS trace output in the Output window; however, nothing related to EWS shows in Output window.
    I wonder what am I missing?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
    you need to implement the interface Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ITraceListener.
    And then set :
    service.TraceListener = new MyTraceListenerImplementation();

  • Can i see the console.log output in DW?

    hey all!
    this seems like such a simple question, yet i can't find an answer anywhere.  everyone assumes it will be viewed in Firebug or what have you.
    i'd like to be able to see the output of console.log in DW, but don't know if that's even possible, let alone which window to open to see it.  i've tried them all and no such luck.
    i'm running DW cs5.5, btw.  and TIA.
    WR!

    AFAIK, there's no equivalent feature in Dreamweaver. For example, you wouldn't be able to monitor AJAX requests; you'd only be able to see the effects of them.
    There might be an extension out there that does this, but I haven't seen one.
    You could use Firebug Lite in the Dreamweaver Live View, though: http://getfirebug.com/firebuglite
    Probably the best way to do so would be to add the JavaScript into your page (look for "Stable local link" or "Stable live link" on the above page), and then set the debug="true" attribute in your <html> tag (this part is explained on the above page). When you switch to Live View in Dreamweaver after doing so, you should see the familiar Firebug UI appear, including its console.
    Since it sounds like you'd like this to be natively supported by Dreamweaver, be sure to ask our development team to add it: http://adobe.ly/DWwish

  • Using VB application, how can one see pl/sql dbms_output output?

    Hi guys,
    Someone wrote a pl/sql procedure, using dbms_output to debug, now we promoted them to PROD, these dbms_output statements are still there in the code.
    Q1. is there any performance issue, having these statements still in code, while they are there in PROD.
    Q2. these procedures have been called by VB application in PROD, now what we are looking for, is there any way to capture those errors which may be raised, there in PROD, if some weird work done by this VB application, what we
    are looking for is to see those errors or whatever be the output of those dbms_output.
    Do inform, is there any possibility to see those output using this VB application, coming out by dbms_output.
    Please ask for clarification, if need be.
    Thanks.

    1) I don't think there will be a big performance issue, i.e. it won't consume noticeable cpu resources.
    2) It might cause more memory consumption of your database sesssions, as all output is temporarily buffered in memory at the database server side.
    1 + 2 heavily depend on how many times the dbms_output.put(_line) procedures are actually called.
    3) It might cause failure of your application, as at some point in time the buffer for storing the output temporarily will fill up. And from that point onwards, all put(_line) calls will result in an error.

    No. Not without you doing some effort at the VB side. dbms_output data is buffered at the server side, and you will have to retrieve its contents yourself. SQLplus (and dome other adhoc sql tooling) will do this automatically for you. But I bet your VB application doesn't. Read up on the dbms_output.get(_lines) procedures on how to retrieve the contents of the buffered output.

  • Ejb + servlet + jsp

    Hallo everybody,
    i try to develop an application with servlet jsp and ejbs but i don't have enough information about this thema.
    for example i want to make a simple login szenario :
    user type the name and passwd and the system contact with the db and show a wellcome page if the login is succesfull and an error page if the login is unsuccessfull.
    which component does was??
    the first page can be a html form and post the name and passwd to a servlet.
    in this case servlet can make a connection with the DB and can forward the user to next page or error page. BUT where should i use EJB? can i realize the db connection with ejb ? if yes how can interact the servlet with the ejb and how can i store the information (for example address of user) which i have taken from the DB?
    thanks a lot

    Thanks for the antwort
    this means that the servlet connected to DB and execute the sql to authenticate user??
    and the second part is my bigger problem :)
    what does it mean "it will pass the control
    to the enterprise java bean which will be housing the business logic for your application."
    what does a java bean really do? how can i find information about them?
    and is ther an example in which i can see how servlets, jsps and beans interact??
    thanks

  • I can not see my JPGs when i run my JSP

    Hello,
    I have a JSP which is called by servlet by RequestDispatcher. However
    when this JSP is run in browser I can not see the jpgs i put inside
    as banner or logo. (By the way, i can see them in JSP viewer, I mean inside tool) Those are all static images. Is there a procedure I should do in servlet or JSP to make them appear?
    Thank you very much..

    the only reason you don't see them is because the browser can't find them (in that case they'll appear as red crosses). Remember that the ultimate output is HTML and that should be correct.

    Hi,
    actually this mapping only identifies those requests to be handled by teh JSF servlet. Its not a redirect.
    I see several namespace definitions in your page, but no taglib reference. Wondering how this is supposed to work
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/html" prefix="afh"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces" prefix="af"%>
    I assume the next crash you will see is when you add JSF components to
    <f:view>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
    content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"/>
    <title>tt</title>
    </head>
    <body><h:form></h:form></body>
    </html>
    </f:view>
    Note that mixing HTML elements with JSF is not a recommended approach

  • How to Buffer JSP Output Inside A Servlet

    Hello, we are trying to Process a JSP page inside a servlet and then do more processing and finnaly add the JSP output to the response output stream. I know there is a RequestDispatcher that lets you include a JSP page. However as far as I know all you can do with the RequestDispatcher is either include the JSP (which does not buffer it but simply adds it to the output stream) or forward to the JSP page. Any ideas? Thanks, - dk

  • How can I call EJB from JSP/Servlets in iWS?

    Hi!!
    My JSP/Servlets are on iWS, and I deploy EJB on iAS.
    In this case, I don't know how JSP/Servlet call EJb on iAS.
    I'd like to know how I can set JNDI name in JSP/Servlet on iWS.
    I will thank you if you give me a simple example source using JSP/Servlet
    and EJB.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Park,
    Why Are you running your JSP/Servlets in iWS instead of iAS? For whatever
    reason,
    look at the Converter sample from iAS. You will be doing RMI/IIOP in this
    case and the sample explains in detail what to do.

  • How can i see the output of a form

    I am having one driver program and form.From these two how can i see the output.

    Hi Sunny
    You might already know; but for the driver program; a smartform is just a function module.
    (In the smartform; this function module name can be found in the menu tab Environment -> Function Module Name.)
    Note: The FM 'SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME' is obviously the correct way of getting the FM name from the smartform name !!
    So all you need to do is call this function module passing any variable / tables you need to pass to the smartform from your driver program.
    Hope it helps

  • Where can I see output from ClassInitialize and ClassCleanup

    Hi,
    If I write
    TestContext.WriteLine("Some output")
    or
    Console.WriteLine("Some output")
    inside a test method, i see an "output" link in the Test Explorer and when I click it I can see the output "Some output". This is also true when I do it from a [TestInialize], [TestCleanup] and even [AssemblyInitiailize] or [AssemblyCleanup]
    methods. However, if I do that from a [ClassInitialize] or [ClassCleanup] methods - I can't see the output.
    Is there any reason for that? How/where can I see any output that I write inside ClassInitialize?
    AFAIR, in VS2010 I was able to see that from a link on the Test Results pane, but I currently don't have VS2010 installed to verify it.
    Thanks,
    Arnon.
    Arnon Axelrod

    Hi Arnon,
    >>I checked it again, and I realize that it works OK for regular MSTest classes (with [TestClass] attribute), but not for Coded UI (with [CodedUITest] attribute).
    I think I could repro this issue in my side, I get the same issue as yours using the VS2013 with the latest update package, it doesn't support it in Coded UI tests even if I enable the detailed coded UI test log:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj159363.aspx
    To get the issue confirmed and diagnose by product team, would you please create connect report for it? You will get email notification for update.

    If you submit the report, please share us the link here, I will help you vote it.

  • Can servlets/ jsp automatically run perl scripts and executables?

    I'm a student and am new to to servlets and web programming in general.
    I need to know if it's possible to run perl scripts and executables automatically from servlets/ jsp.
    The program I am planning on creating should have a client outside a firewall that uploads perl files to a gateway machine inside the firewall, the servlet should be able to run this perl file, and then pass the resulting file as an argument to an executable, to be run by another servlet on a different server.
    I've tried looking everwhere for an answer to this and am about to revert to a cgi based approach because I'm not sure if it would work so any help/ suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hallo,
    I think using java Runtime will help. you can do Processes that execute shell or system commands through
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("your perl scripts here!");
    Bye
