Can't set PATH to my 1.4.2_07, why?

I have 1.5.0 JRE installed (since my browser complained, need to install before I can access some site).
Next I install 1.4.2_07 (J2SDK) , installation is smooth.
But when I open a new command window and type "java -version", the 1.5.0 responded.
I tried to set the environment PATH (both user and systems, tried) to point to my 1.4.2_07 directory and then run "java -version". Again the 1.5.0 responded.
I tried to search for PATH info of 1.5.0 in the environment variable but found none.
Can any one kindly advise me where is the 1.5.0 path being set? How can I select a JRE to use (both at DOS prompt and IE)?
Also, my control panel only have 1 Java applet for configuration.
I am using Windows 2000 Pro, SP3.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to your reply.
I am intending to uninstall both 1.4.2_07 and 1.5.0, followed by installing J2SDK for both, 1.4.2_07 followed by 1.5.0, is it advisable?
Regards,
Jacky

We need to split the question into 2 parts, 1) the browser, and 2) the default from the commandline.
For IE, the JRE/Plug-in is selectable from Window Control Panel | Java Control Panel. The exact details are different between 1.4 and 1.5 versions. In 1.4, iirc, the Java tab has a dropdown box to select what Java version IE will use. With 1.5's Java Control Panel, you'll need to read this document, which explains how to change the setting - scroll down to where it discusses the Java Applet Runtime Settings:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/jcp.html
There can only be one Java version installed in IE. Use the above information to change to a different version.
Now, about the commandline.
Typically the last Java version installed becomes the default (the one that responds when just "java ..." is typed without a path.) If 1.5 is the last installed, then just typing java -version will execute the 1.5 version of java.exe
Other versions are able to be accessed by using a full path to the java.exe, javac.exe, and other tools for that version. For instance, if you have 1.4 installed in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.4.2_07, then that version's java can executed by typing "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.4.2_07\bin\java ..."
Only one version of java.exe can be the default, all others can be executed by using the full path, as above. One approach is to create small batch files to set the environment (PATH, and CLASSPATH if desired), which can temporarily override the default version by reconfiguring the PATH variable to point to the different version.
To set the PATH in 2000, go to #5 of any of the SDK/JDK Installation Instructions; there are detailed instructions there. Links to the instructions can be found where you do the downloads.
The current versions are 1.4.2_07 and 1.5.0_01. The last one you install will become the default, as discussed above. Your choice.

  • Linux - j2sdk1.4.2_06 can't set path/classpath

    I am struggling to get my java set up to write, compile and run some java programs, and honestly being a linux newbie the docs for such are somewhat confusing..
    I am trying to break this down as simple as possible.
    -I am logged into Linux as root.
    -then download the j2sdk1.4.2_06 in the /USR/ dir
    -I did chmod +x j2sdk1.4.2_06...
    -then./j2sdk1.4.2_06...
    it installed successfully.
    but setting up the path classpath is different.
    I would like two things:
    for my mozilla browser to now be java enabled, AND
    I would like to create a directory called javasrc to hold all my java source code
    but I do not want to develop in root, I want any user to be able to use the javasrc directory and be able to compile and run the programs..
    what exactly do I edit. someone said I need to edit a file in /ETC/PROFILE
    I want to try this..but I dont think it is correct
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/j2sdk1.4.2_06
    PATH=$HOME:/usr/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:$HOME/bin:/usr/X11:/sbin:/home/mqm/bin:$JAVA_HOME/bin
    export PATHthanks

    I'd advice you to not touch CLASSPATH until you've studied how packages and classloading work. Until then it will just get on your way.
    What comes to setting PATH, the file to modify in /etc depends on your distribution -- a least in some versions of SuSE /etc/profile is generated by a script and you are supposed to modify /etc/profile.local instead. You could also edit a file called ".bashrc" in your home directory. The manual page of bash explains the differences between using these files. If you modify /etc/profile you need to either start a new login shell or source the file for the change to have effect. The lines to write are:export JAVA_HOME=/usr/j2sdk1.4.2_06
    export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin

  • How can I set PATH environment variables when there is no ~/.profile?

    Hi,
    I have a MacBook Air and just installed MySQL.
    I read the doc which I downloaded and should be able to run "mysql" from terminal as descibed below:
    Suppose that your MySQL programs are installed in /usr/local/mysql/bin and that you want to make it easy to invoke these programs. To do this, set the value of the PATH environment variable to include that directory. For example, if your shell is bash, add the following line to your .bashrc file:
               PATH=${PATH}:/usr/local/mysql/bin
    I checked on my terminal with ls -al, but no ~/.bashrc also no ~/.profile files.  Echo $SHELL shows me that I am using /bin/bash as shell.
    When I run export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mysql/bin  then it works and I just have to type "mysql" to get the mysql command line but as soon as I kill my terminal and open a new terminal this setting is lost.
    Any idea how I can accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    MacNewby

    Hi,
    Never mind, I found it :-)
    I just created a file  .bash_profile in my home folder and added "export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mysql/bin" and restarted my terninal. Now it works.

  • How can I set path to icon

    I am using NetBeans 5.5.
    Some part of my JavaSE application I made with help of GUIBuilder + I've worte my own code for GUI.
    The problem is:
    My buttons use icons.
    When I launch my app in NetBeans - everything is O.K.
    But
    When I try to lauch my jar file "myproject/dist/myproject.jar"
    I get an error
    "myButtonIcon.jpg is not found"
    Through GUIBuilder I have several ways to set icon to button:
    1.File. It makes HARD link to file, like:
    jButton3report.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon("D:\\source\\Dfree\\resource\\menuoldico\\report.jpg"));That is awful variant! But jar file launches - no errors
    2.Classpath. It lokks like this way:
    jButton1workdoc.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/menuoldico_/adddocument.jpg")));Seems that's ok.
    I've added folder resourse as[b] library to project.
    folder menuoldico lies there.
    I put my lib with icon folder near jar file.
    Ni result!
    It doesnt' work
    Where is mistake?
    P.S.
    JDBC connector lies in the same forlder, and jar file can find it and use
    but jar file doesn't see folder with icons
    Help me please.

    Hm...seems like this is another good variant.
    But there is a way to put icons into jar!
    1. Just create folder (for example "MyIconsSet") in folder "MyProject/src"
    2. Put there all icons or images you want to use.
    3. NetBeans recognizes created folder "MyIconSet" as package
    4. Just write path to icon as:
    jButton1workdoc.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/icon/adddocument.jpg")));NetBeans will include this "package" into jar. The easiest and convinient way
    And you will not have any problems!!!
    I didn't read manual properly.
    It's written there!
    Problem is solved.
    kynamar, thanks for your code.

  • How can i set a path for my deployment files in weblogic server 10.3

    Hi
    How can i set the path for my WAR ,JAR files while deploying.i am using the wls10.3 version.
    is there any scripts for this ,please provide me.
    my Application is ADF 11g application.

    By "path", I assume you mean "classpath".
    The simplest way is simply to include the jars you need inside the web application or web module's WEB-INF/lib directory, EJB module's META-INF/lib directory, or EAR lib directory.
    If that's not practical, if you use NodeManager to start your servers, you can go to the "Server Start" tab in the server definition in the WebLogic console and edit the "Classpath" field, which defaults to no value. You can specify a classpath value there. Note that if you specify a value there, it REPLACES the default classpath for the server, it doesn't add to it. If you need to just add to it (a much more likely scenario), if the value references the value "$CLASSPATH" in it, that will reference the original classpath value that the server would have had.
    So, for instance, if you wanted to include the MQ jars in the server classpath, you could set a value like this:
    /usr/java/mq/lib/mq.jar:/usr/java/mq/lib/mqstuff.jar:$CLASSPATH

  • How can I set a polygon's path by using the .add() function?

    I have been searching the web and this forum and doing plenty of experimenting, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this.
    I can set other attributes of a polygon inside the add() parentheses, such as the fillColor, but I can't set the polygon's path's pathPoints unless I use a separate line of code after the add(); line.
    My script adds a great deal of polygons in a row, so halving the number of operations would greatly help me, and also it seems that some properties such as appliedObjectStyle cannot be set until after a polygon's path is defined. That means I need a third line of code after add() and entirePath=, which slows me down even more.
    Help?

    Ryan, I think you need to reset and take a moment to understand what it is that is going on here.
    The things you've proposed that don't work shouldn't work, and it's all quite simple.
    Generally speaking, a .add() function takes an additional parameter, a JavaScript Object, that list properties of the created object that can be set.
    A JavaScript Object is a list of key/value pairs, just like an associative array in a language like perl, or a dictionary in a language like Python. It is expressed in curly braces as such:
    { key1: value1, key2: value2, key3: value3}
    So, for any such general add function, these
    foo = whatever.add();
    foo.bar = baz;
    are equivalent to this:
    foo = whatever.add({bar: baz});
    Are you with me? So, for instance, you had originally asked why you could not use pathPoints in polygons.add() and the answer is simpe. You cannot set polygon.pathPoints, because there is no .pathPoints property of a polygon.
    So, when you want to try add properties inside properties, you must do as as objects within objects, and follow the strict hierarchy. Marc advises that this works:
    app.activeWindow.activePage.polygons.add({
        fillColor:"FireRed",
        transparencySettings: {dropShadowSettings: {angle:120}}
    and if indeed that is so, then the extension for setting multiple transparencySettings should be clear. It is not this, that you propose:
    app.activeWindow.activePage.polygons.add({
        fillColor:"FireRed",
        transparencySettings: {dropShadowSettings: {angle:120}}
        transparencySettings: {dropShadowSettings: {distance:1}}
    Because to do so is to set the transparencySettings key twice in the same Object. And to do that is to replace the first with the second. The above (yours) is wholly equavelent to:
    app.activeWindow.activePage.polygons.add({
        fillColor:"FireRed",
        transparencySettings: {dropShadowSettings: {distance:1}}
    If you wish to set more than one attribute of dropShadowSettings, you must set transparencySettings to an object containing one and only one dropShadowSettings, and you must do it only once. So it is this:
    app.activeWindow.activePage.polygons.add({
        fillColor:"FireRed",
        transparencySettings:
          {dropShadowSettings: {angle:120, distance: 1}}
    I am not sure why you thought you should have the name of the key in the Object named properties. That is probably because in some cases you can use:
    foo.properties = { a: 1, b: 2};
    as a shorthand for
    foo.a=1;
    foo.b=2;
    but you would [probably] never want to mix that with the object notation for setting multiple properties in the .add() function.
    Does this help to clarify?
    As for your last question:
    Also, it doesn't let me use square brackets or parentheses inside the add() parentheses, so the original problem I posted (trying to set a polygon's path) is still a problem.
    It's not about the use of brackets or parentheses, but what they mean and where they go. As you have not posted an example of setting the polygon's path the long way, it's hard to show you how to shorten it. Post what you have that works, and we will show you how to shorten it. (I suppose some with more patience than I are willing to go look up what we think it is you are trying to do, and then interpret it. But I would much rather you show me the code you have that works, and then your attempts to transform or shorten it and change its notation. This makes it much much easier to help you, and it should also make the help more effective, by contextualizing it. As an added benefit, when someone else reads your post and tries to learn from it, they will gain more.)
    So again, please provide a clear example of the "long way" to do the thing you are attempting, and then your attempt at shortening it.

  • How can I set a path for a new AD-User in this Switch example?

    Hi,
    I am nearing the end of my script that creates a new ad user, adds them to a set of groups, and moves them to their correct ou.
    The problem I have is that I cant work out how to move them to the OU.
    eg.
    Step 1. In my function I have completed the part that creates the user, and I have used the -passthru parameter to return the new user object into a variable called $obj.
    Step 2. I have created a switch that accepts a department variable, and adds the user to the corresponding groups.
    Step 3. Finally I want the user to be created in an OU that is relevant to their job role. If possible in the same switch as above.
    Here is the switch :
    Switch($dept)
    Finance {$FinanceGroups = @("Finance","Users");ForEach($group in $FinanceGroups){Add-ADGroupMember -Identity $group -Members $Obj}}
    Sales {$SalesGroups = @("Sales","Users");ForEach($group in $SalesGroups){Add-ADGroupMember -Identity $group -Members $Obj}}
    Support {$SupportGroups = @("Support","Users");ForEach($group in $SupportGroups){Add-ADGroupMember -Identity $group -Members $Obj}}
    I was trying to do it like this.
    Finance{$FinanceGroups=@("Finance","VPN_Users");ForEach($groupin$FinanceGroups){Add-ADGroupMember-Identity$group-Members$Obj}{$Obj.Path ="OU=Staff,OU=Accounts,OU=Resources,DC=homenet,DC=com"}}
    But it doesn't seem to work, and I think the problem could be that the new user object returned by the -passthru parameter is read only. So I can't set it's parameters.
    Can you think of a way to do it?
    Thanks

    I would re-write this function as follows:
    Function New-User {
    [CmdletBinding(SupportsShouldProcess=$true, ConfirmImpact='High')]
    Param(
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=0)]
    [String]$fname,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=1)]
    [String]$sname,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=2)]
    [ValidateSet("Milan","London","tokyo")]
    [String]$site,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=3)]
    [ValidateSet("Finance","Sales","Support")]
    [String]$dept,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=4)]
    [String]$baseOU = "OU=Accounts,OU=Resources,DC=homenet,DC=com",
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false,
    ValueFromPipeLine=$true,
    ValueFromPipeLineByPropertyName=$true,
    Position=5)]
    [String]$tempPass = "Temp-pass1"
    Write-Verbose "Creating user '$fname $sname' in OU 'OU=$dept,$baseOU'"
    $objUser = New-ADUser -name "$fname $sname" `
    -GivenName $fname `
    -Surname $sname `
    -DisplayName "$fname $sname" `
    -SamAccountName "$fname.$sname" `
    -AccountPassword ($tempPass | ConvertTo-SecureString -AsPlainText -Force ) `
    -ChangePasswordAtLogon:$true `
    -Path "OU=$dept,$baseOU" `
    -PassThru
    $Groups = @("All_$site","Users","$dept")
    Write-Verbose "Adding user '$fname $sname' to groups '$($Groups -join ', ')'"
    $Groups | % { Add-ADGroupMember -Identity $_ -Members $objUser.DistinguishedName }
    Write-Verbose "Enabling user account '$fname $sname'"
    Enable-ADAccount -Identity $objUser.DistinguishedName
    <#
    Examples
    New-User -fname "Sam" -sname "test" -site Milan -dept Finance -Verbose
    #>
    Notice:
    Function name: follows verb-noun format - best practice
    $obj variable renamed to $objUser - using variable name that reflects its content
    Use of CmdLetBinding[] and confirm impact as high since you're writing to AD
    Use of ValidationSet to minimize parameter input errors
    Parameterized baseOU, and TempPass
    Added requirement to change password at first logon
    Enabling the account at the end
    You should wrap each of the 3 steps in a try-catch block. Check for things like user already exists or not, group exists r not, OU exists or not..

  • Can you set isolation levels of message-driven bean transactions?

    The problem: I have 3 different message-driven beans which each get a different type of message, except for a field that is common to all. That field is used as the primary key of an entity object. The message-driven beans configured to use a container managed transaction. Each message-driven bean, in processing the message, first does a lookup by primary key to see if the object associated with the key exists, and if it does not, it requests the entity's home object to create it. After that, they do further processing. The problem is that sometimes all the beans simultaneously get a message, resulting in each bean checking for the entity object at about the same time, and if they fail to find it (because none of them has created it yet), each creates an object, all with the same primary key. This is not caught until the beans start to complete their onMessage method, which I believe results in the container committing the transaction. One of the transactions will be committed successfully, while the other two will fail, get rolled back, and then be retried with the same message. The second time through, the other beans will find the entity object (since it has been created and committed) and they will complete correctly. In the end, they right thing occurs, except that there is a troubling exception or 2 in the log telling about the constraint violation (with the primary key) and the rollback. If it was just me, that would be fine, but our customer does not like to see exceptions in the log; that indicates to him that something is wrong.
    So, I am looking for someway to make sure that the actions of the message-driven beans are serialized. One suggestion from a colleague was to set the isolation level of the transactions being used by the container in processing the message-driven beans' onMessage method. However, the documentation does not mention any way to do this for a message-driven bean. Suggestions?
    Is the use of a UserTransaction a better way to do this? If I acquire a UserTransaction within the onMessage method of a message-driven bean, can I set its isolation level? How would this work? When I get a UserTransaction, does each client get a different transaction, or do they all get the same one?

    (1) The WebLogic JMS "unit-of-order" feature is a heavily adopted feature that was specifically designed to handle similar use cases - see the JMS developer guide for extensive documentation. In your use case, if "key" is used to define UOO, then there's no limit on the number of keys that can be processed concurrently, but messages for any particular key will be processed single-threaded in the order in which they were first submitted.
    Note that if you're using distributed destinations, the UOO feature is still fully supported - but the developer and/or administrator needs to decide whether to configure the destination to use "hash" or "path service" based routing (the JMS UOO edoc outlines the trade-offs).
    (2) Another alternative is to use a single MDB with max-beans-free-pool that processes all three types (as the other poster suggested). I think this assumes all MDBs run on the same JVM.
    (3) Another alternative is to use multiple queues, with a single MDB on each Q. Where some sort of hash algorithm is used to determine which Q is for the key. This approach is a "hand-coded" variant of the approach in (1) with "hash" based routing enabled...
    (4) If all MDBs actually do run in the same JVM, a third alternative is to use code the application to use a common lock to protect each key, eg, something like:
    // assume MyLock is simply a class with a "reference counter"
    // assume some global "staticHM" hash map that is all MDBs can access
    onMessage() {
    MyLock lock = null;
    key= msg.getKey();
    synchronized(staticHM) {
    lock = staticHM.get();
    if (lock = null) {
    lock = new lock();
    staticHM.put(key, new lock());
    lock.incRefCount();
    try {
    synchronized(lock) {
    // only one onMessage will be able to lock a particular key at a time
    do your work;
    } finally {
    synchronized(staticHT) {
    if (lock.defRefCount() == 0) staticHM.remove(lock);
    if (lock = null) staticHM.put(key);
    If multiple threads get a message with the same key, then only one thread at a time will work on the key.
    Hope this helps,
    Tom

  • In EIC, how can we set the SLA of a subcategory to none SLA-related.

    Hi Experts,
    This is our current setup in EIC...
    Category 0501 has an SLA of 8 hours. Subcategory 050101 has to be none SLA relevant. But if we put zero or blank to the SLA Target Value field, it will automatically have a due date defaulted to today. If we will not indicate 050101 on the configuration, it will have the 0501 SLA of 8 hours.
    How can we set the 050101 SLA off?
    The path: IMG --> Personnel Management --> Employee Interaction Center (EIC) --> Interaction Center Web-Client --> Application Functions --> Activity --> Service Level Agreement (SLA) --> Define SLV Properties
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Harish and Jarret.
    @Harish, I already tried unchecking the checkbox of the Display field but the problem with this is, it will also apply for the rest of the categories. It should only be for this specific subcategory.
    @Jarret, apology, but can you explain to me further about your instruction/advise? I get the feeling that we're on to something with your advise but I didn't quite get it on how to exactly.
    1. You should build the SLA from the lowest level up...
                        -I'm not really sure how, actually.
    2. If you have 8 subcats... will put the 8 entries in the table...
                        -where do I put the 1 subcat? This is because if I don't put that "No SLA" subcat in the table, the due date of that specific subcat will automatically appear todayu2019s date.
    Thanks for both of you. I really appreciate your help.

  • How to set path to run a Java program?

    my pc os is win2000 service pack 3.
    cpu is celoron 667mhz
    256 pc133 sdram
    i have done the setting b4 run a java program but no any effect.
    setting as below:
    set path=c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\bin
    set classpath=c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\lib
    my java file is store in C:\Java, file name is HelloWorld.java, so when i type:
    C:\>
    C:\>Java\javac HelloWorld.java
    (the screen show me : java\javac not internal or external........")
    and i try again as follow:
    C:>
    C:>\Java>javac HelloWorld.java
    (the screen show : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:HelloWorld/java)
    i cant do anymore, who can help me?

    you need to put the CLASSPATH to dir: c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01
    and also to the directory you are working
    For example, you are working in "C:\Myclasses". You need to put:
    set CLASSPATH = C:\j2sk1.4.1_01;C:\Myclasses;
    if you don't put your working directory, java doesn't find your classes
    Try it and luck!
