Can't set Poster Frame for Movies on site

Hi - Any insight into this problem is much appreciated - I've built a simple site, a few pages have 2 or 3 compressed MPEG-4 movie files on the page (they are roughly 30MB each clip). I built the clips in FCP then exported them using Compressor and saved them as MPEG-4 files. I then dragged the files onto blank pages and built the site that way. I have set the Poster Frames for these clips in iWeb08, but after I publish the site the Poster Frames only save on a few files, most do not. Also, some of the clips stop playing mid-way through. Any simple fixes for this/these problem(s)? Thanks.

Sorry to tell you so late in your life that you only have one job when it comes to moms and grand-moms. Give them what they want!
Part of your "monicker" best describes the issue.
You can edit your published pages using hundreds of tools but the are best edited with a plain text editing app like BBEdit (any plain text editor works).
You can use Safari to view your page and even "save" the source code (Command-Option-U) and then "save as". Edit this new page to make your changes and drag it back into the appropriate Web older of your iDisk (replacing the older version).
I did it to one of my pages to add a sound file to one of my slideshow pages:

just because others said it couldn't be done.
Darn. Now you have another mother, or worse, an in-law. Sorry.

  • Can't set POSTER FRAME for .mp4 movies... can for most others

    I've got QTPro.
When I try to create a poster frame for a .mp4 movie I compressed it tells me I have to save and does one of the following two things:
    1) Tells me I can't save after I hit SAVE
    2) Tells me it wants to save as a .mov file... I don't WANT a .mov file.
    Any thoughts?

  • Can't Set Poster Frame - or - Add Artwork on 3 MP4 Movies

    Hi all,
Itunes 7.2 with a DVD library of MP4 files specifically ripped for Apple TV.
Out of 47 movies, three will not allow me to add artwork. In fact, If I attempt to add artwork, the movie file becomes corrupted with only a white screen showing for the entire movie. Once I replace the move (I have backups) all is fine.
If I attempt to set poster frame - nothing happens at all.
Two Piglet Movies and Peter Pan.
All other, including many other kids movies are perfect.
    Big bug here?
    Thanks,
    Stu

Same exact thing happens for me. Once the screen and thumbnail go white there is no fixing it iTunes 7.2 and 7.3 and 7.3.1 no difference for me. Some movies I can some I can't.
I am Using HandBrake to rip with Buit in settings for Apple TV to rip DVD'S
Sometimes it won't go white but won't change either the artwork from the original rip just stayes and nothing changes or sometimes iTunes just freezes and doesn't respond. I then have to force quit iTunes just for it to not remember any changes that I made that did work...

  • 'poster frame' for movies is not saved

    Hi iTunes people,
Note - this all used to work in Leopard - this feature has become non-functional since the arrival of Snow Leopard.
When I set the POSTER FRAME, via the contextual menu that appears for an entry in the movies section of iTunes, it is not saved.
Although the 'artwork' image in the lower left of the itunes window temporarily shows the frame I selected, if I go away from that item or perform the same action on another movie, the poster frame that had been selected is gone and is replaced with whatever was there from before.
The only way it appears that one can save a poster frame is to physically drag-n-drop an image into the ARTWORK tab of the 'Get Info dialog for that item.
Does anyone have any other suggestions about how to make this feature work - without having to create and deposit artowrk into the GetInfo dialog?  I lost 1900+ poster frames I had created for various movies and clips because of this problem.  I really am not looking forward to again having to do all that work.
    Thanks!

  • Setting poster frame for video automatically?

Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically set a poster frame for imported video files in Aperture 3? I was very pleased to be able to import all of my camera video files, but once imported they all were black. I am able to click and "Set Poster Frame" but that is a very tedious process to go through for even a small amount of video files.

Thank you!!!! I've been working on this for hours. I've completely erased and re-imported the videos no less than three times. The poster frames would show...and then disappear on final import...it was driving me crazy!
Just in case I can help someone else track this post down with google...
Aperture 3 was giving me black thumbnails when I imported Flip HD videos. I tried setting poster frames, but no love. Generate thumbnails corrects the problem of black poster frame, black key frames, black thumbnails, whatever you want to call it. thank you.

  • Setting Poster Frame for H.264 Youtube HD video exported from Pr CC

    Hey All,
I've searched many of the forums for an answer to this, but most of them refer to setting poster frames in encore/media encoder.
I'm wanting to select a specific frame from the video i've created to be used as the poster frame (i.e. the frame that is displayed as the preview of the video before it is played to show the viewer the content of the video) on the video when it's uploaded, either to Youtube or Facebook etc. As i'm not using En or the Media Encoder, I'm wanting to do this directly from Premiere Pro CC.
I'm sure I've seen/used a feature to select a poster frame within Pr before, but can't for the life of me remember or find where it is (if it is actually there at all).
    Can anyone provide any suggestions?

Unfortunately Compressor, Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 can't play a Blu-ray .264 video files. This makes it hard to test your raw Blu-ray videos.
I found an app that will plaback the Blu-ray .264 video file on a Mac, VideoSpec. It's a free app!
    http://videospec.free.fr/index.html
Drop your Blu-ray .264 video onto the open window and hit the play button in the upper left. VideoSpec has the Mplayer incorporated into the app. I guess you could download the stand-alone Mplayer app. But, Videospec gives you more options, video info for example.
What you could do to save on Blu-ray discs is to burn the Video onto a DVD for a test. You can only burn about 35 minute onto a DVD disc.

  • Setting poster frame for video

Is this feature gone in version 8.0 or am I just not finding it.
I've paused and then control-clicked, but I'm not seeing "set poster frame".

It works for me. But I've noticed this error: While iTunes usually shows the frame I choose, the finder, when in icon view, doesn't. It often picks something close (usually earlier). I usually have to search around to get it to set to the one I choose. For example (not real values just to illustrate): I choose the frame at 19:13, but the finder shows 19:02. Then I continue to choose: 19:15, 19:17, 19:21. Each time iTunes is correct (though I have to sometimes change views), but the finder doesn't, until I hit on the one that is close. Even then, it's often a little wrong, usually a few seconds before. I don't know anything about keyframes, but would that be what it's doing?

  • Setting poster frame for front row

i am in the process of putting a bunch of videos on my hard drive to use in front row. the problem i am having is that front row basically shows the 1st frame as the poster frame. so i have no clue what the episode is about.
if i set the poster frame in quicktime pro and then save it it saves it as a .mov file. my videos are .mp4. how can i change it so it saves them as .mp4 or does this really not make a difference ?

Thanks for the answer. Didn't think about that. Guess my brain is still formatted as Windows.
Though I don't get the preview:
    http://localhostr.com/files/534186/img.jpg
I have checked the "Show icon preview" in the View Menu, and relaunching Finder didn't help.
Neither does removing the .DS_Store (Terminal).
    Tried with a few JPG's.

  • Setting poster frame for imovie theater section

Is it possible to set the poster frame in the Theater section, instead of the one generated automatically?

    Gilles,
    I don't think so.

  • Set Poster Frame not working

I can't set poster frames in bin icon view using command-P, nothing sticks...  anyone else experiencing this?  PPro CC 7.2.1 & OS X 10.9.1

I'm not clear on how Poster Frames are supposed to work here.  The image you see for the clip in icon mode is the frame the clip's playhead is on.  It's the first frame by default, but when you play through a clip in the bin, which you'd need to do to choose a Poster Frame, it stays on that frame anyway until you move the clips playhead.  So...you end up with the same result.
But even if a Poster Frame could be set, does that mean you can no longer play through the clip in the bin because it's always showing that Poster Frame?  I don't understand the purpose of that.  And if you can still play the clip in the bin, then what use a Poster Frame if it doesn't always show that?
    I'm missing something.

  • Greyed out Set Poster Frame

I am trying to set poster frames for my videos in my timelines. Unfortunately when I select menu and then Set Poster Frame it is greyed out.
I have tried going to the video in the timeline and makinga marker and then setting that as a Poster Frame but doesnt work?
    Thanks
    Brightface.

You should have a Marker at the beginning of the Timeline. Click it to activate it, and then you should get Set Poster Frame. Just activate that Marker, and set the CTI (Current Time Indicator) to the desired new location - I do this with first a Left-click, then a Rt-click.
Hope that helps, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Poster frame for entire movie

I have searched the manual and this forum, and I can not find an answer. I know how to set a poster frame for a specific clip, but how do I set one for the entire film? I want to upload a movie to youtube, and I want a specific image to show up when representing the movie.
    thanks

Great. thank you. Yes after I posted my first video I found that it selected a poster frame of its own anyway. I just wanted to make sure there was not a black screen representing the video.
    thanks!

  • Imporing QT movies but set poster frame doesn't remain in iWeb

I've "set poster frames" in the Quicktime movies that I am importing into iWeb. They appear properly in my working iWeb file but the poster frame I've set doesn't remain after the site is published. The Quicktime poster frame goes back to black. Anyway to fix this?

you can of course set the QT background to any color, I use white, in the Export window. Blends into the background of my page which is also white.

  • Set poster frame not an option in View menu

Do you need QuickTime Pro just to be able to set a poster frame for a particular .MOV file?  I have read on the internet that other people find this option in the View menu, but it doesn't show up for me.  I have Lion installed.
    Thanks!

I have an amazingly simple solution that worked for me:
Open the video in quicktime and press cmd+c on the frame of your choice. Then right click the video file in he finder and choose "Get Info" press cmd+v and the poster frame will be fixed.
I do not have Quicktime Pro, so this will work on hopefully any version of Quicktime.
It appears that different people have different definitions of a "Poster Frame." This gentleman is referring to the icon image displayed at the Finder level rather than a true "Poster Frame" as can be designated by QT 7 Pro, iWeb, or iTunes apps. The icon display to which he is referring can be created by either by pasting a copied frame to the "Info" window as described above or by dragging and dropping an image file (of compatible dimensions and format) directly to the "Info" widow icon area.
As to the creation of a designated "Poster Frame," if you do not have QT 7 Pro or no longer use iWeb, then your can create a "Poster Frame" using iTunes. Simply open the file in the iTunes player, locate the frame you want designated as the "Poster Frame," control-click the player window to open the context menu, and select the "Set Poster Frame" option. If the video does not already have a "Cover Art" image associated with it, the designated poster frame will be used as the cover art image but not adopted as the file icon image. If the file already has an external image associated with it as cover art, then the cover art image is used for both the cover art and the file icon image but the "Poster Frame" will still be recognized by applications that recognize/use this designation.

  • Setting poster frame

I am trying to set my poster frames for my movies that I have imported into itunes and then watch on the ipad. When I try to set the poster frame it doesn't seem to take?
Also, when looking at the movie thumbnails on the ipad it has chosen one frame for multiple movies. I need to have a the image for the movie so my son who is 5 can pick out what move he wants to see since he doesn't read yet.
    any advice would be welcomed!

Adding to Massimo65 - thanks, you helped a lot...I have had same issue where I can set Poster Frame in iTunes for some movie thumbnails and not others (these are all my own home movies and include .mov and .mp4 files).
For those movie thumbnails that would not 'hold' the poster frame, this is what worked for me :
    1. Set the poster frame by playing and pausing the video then right click and 'Set Poster Frame'
    2. Close the quicktime player window (the poster frame you selected above won't show up)
    3. With the thumbnail for the video still selected-  right click, choose ratings and give the video any "*" rating you like
... the poster frame selected in Step 1 will reappear and stay there
