Can't setup new Mail account with Comcast
Could not connect to the smtp server. Please make sure the user name and password are correct. The input looks correct but wont work
Hello,
Comcast smtp can be setup three ways, when last I checked. If at the venue where Comcast is the ISP, and you use smtp.comcast.net on Port 25, then authentication should be set to None, and no Username or Password enter in Outgoing Server Settings. If away from home you must use an Authenticated SMTP, so use Port 587, with Password Authentication, but not SSL. In this case the name of the SMTP will change to append your username.
If you want to use SSL, then Port 465 should be used, along with Password authentication, the name will also be changed to include your Username.
If using a laptop both remote and at home, then you will need to take care as to which one is selected, and the one w/o authentication and using Port 25 will only work at home, while the one with Authentication should work at either.

objc[394]: alt handlers in objc runtime are buggy!I hate to add a third entry but this one will end the speculation about this problem.
Apple mail is not designed to create a new mail account! WIndows mail, all forms, is designed to create new mail accounts. If you are new to mac, and you try to create a new mail account and the account you try to create already exists because it belongs to some else, the a return code for an error is returned from the mail provider. Apple mail unfortunately trys to handle
the error but does not bother range checking the return code for validity. This results in what I said above and the mail crashes. Nothing that happens should ever cause a crash! There are a number of software errors in Apple mail that need attention. To fix this problem, just go to your email provider and create the account. Then add it in apple mail.
This will work without error. -
I bought a new desktop PC with Win 8.1 and installed Firefox and Thunderbird.
Then, I tried to configure the e-mail account manually (as IMAP) following the instructions provided here: https://support-en.upc-cablecom.ch/app/answers/detail/a_id/22 , but failed to configure the smtp outgoing mail server correctly (I could receive mail, but not send them). Subsequently, I deleted that account. Then, I launched the automatic mail setting tool provided by UPC Cablecom under the link http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/dam/www-upc-cablecom-ch/Support/executables/upc-cablecom-email-assistent.exe and it did successfully setup the account, however as a POP3 account. As I was not happy with it, I deleted the POP3 incoming mail server (and lost the received e-mails, of course...) and retried a manual setup. Doing so, I obtained an incoming IMAP mail account plus two outgoing SMTP server (comparing them, I also understood the configuration mistake I had done the first time). I then deleted the manual SMTP server as the automatically setup server worked properly.
In this context, both receiving and sending e-mail worked OK. However, the next time I started the computer, the e-mail account disappeared and Thunderbird asked me to setup a new account again. I successfully set it up manually one more time, but the same problem surfaced again at the next boot, the e-mail account was gone...!
Thanks in advance for your help!

How can I restore a mail account with all the old mails?
I just searched the this topic list, and found some articles which seemed to address the same problem, but I was not able to restore the data.
When setting up a new mail user, we erased all the data from the previous user and I urgently need to get that data back - meaning all emails. How can I do that?
thanks for any help,
AlexandraSince I'm assuming this is not an IMAP account, there are only two things you can do.
Restore the mail from a backup, if you have one (it would be in the old users home directory - in /Library/Mail).
Pay for a data recovery service to reclaim the deleted files from the hard disk (assuming you haven't over-written those disk sectors already in setting up the new user - if so, the data is unrecoverable).
P.S. If it was a POP3 account, BUT, the mail had been set to save message copies on the server, then you could recreate the previous mail account and re-download them.

Can't Setup My Mail Account As POP3 in Yosemite
In Yosemite mail automatically uses the configuration saved in Apple database of ISP mail accounts. In that database it lists the IMAP configuration for my ISP mail account. I have never connected to my ISP mailbox as IMAP. I have always connected as POP3. After setting up my mail account as IMAP, it doesn't function a well as I would like, so I want to be able to connect back up as POP3, but there is not way to do it because when you set up the mail account it doesn't allow you to choose the POP3 parameters. I've called Apple support but they were no help. There is simply no way currently to manually setup and put in all the email account information.
Yosemite 10.10.1Delete the account, then add it back. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.

Why cannot setup new mail account?
I am using Google Gmail for e-mail account. Recently my brother changed Internet providers (Windstream) and for some unknown reason my (Apple) mail application stopped working.
I have reconfigured Gmail to accept IMap instead of POP service. Old previous account shown in my Apple mail service were deleting in order to reset and start everything from scratch. Changed my password in Gmail .. and when I go to Systme Preferences ==> Internet & Wireless ==> Mail, Contacts & Calendars ... entered my full name, e-mail address, and my password ... it just don't accept it ... indicating "unable to verify account name and password"
I have spent several hours trying to make it work but to no avail ...
Will appreciate if someone could give me some advise as to what should be done in order to make my Apple E-mail work again.Perhaps you were relaying mail through SMTP without authenticating before...?
In any case, as shown in this page, make sure your Gmail settings are as follows (look at the section in bold at the bottom):
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Requires SSL:Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465 or 587
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires authentication: Yes
Use same settings as incoming mail server
Full Name or Display Name: [your name]
Account Name or User Name: your full Gmail address ([email protected]). Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Email address: your full Gmail address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Password: your Gmail password
If your client does not support SMTP authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your Gmail address.
Also, if you're having trouble sending mail but you've confirmed that encryption is active for SMTP in your mail client, try to configure your SMTP server on a different port: 465 or 587. -
It then tells me to "Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection".
I then follow the prompts but to no avail.
Please help me!? Everything works fine on my personal windows 7 laptop - but not on my new work owned Surface Pro 2!Hi,
According to your description, your office 365 account cannot be configured on your Surface Pro while it can work on your Windows 7 client.
Maybe we can try to manually configure it. and you can also use network monitor to find the root cause.
However, since the issue is related to Exchange online(Office 365), I recommend you ask for more professional help on our Exchange online forum:

If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

How do I set up a new mail account on my iMac?
Hello everyone,
I think I used to have a Mail account however I could not remember the password when I tried to turn it on. I decided to delete the account completely and to start again. How do I set up a new mail account with a new email address and a new password??
I can see how you create a new mail account but it then asks for an email and password so that doesn't help. I really didn't think it would be a hassle!
Thanks,
WYou first need to set up a new User Name and Password with your Internet Service Provider (ISP); that is, whoever provides you with Internet access, such as Comcast, AT&T, etc in the US. Alternately you can go on the Internet and set up a new email Account with a new User Name and Password with a public company such as Google's "Gmail" or Microsoft's "Hotmail". Once you have set up your new Account with them, THEN you enter that information into Apple's "Mail" for it to send and receive emails for your new outside Account.
Hope this helps -
Mandatory new Mail account required by ISP.
My ISP (Demon) has implemented a new mail system requiring me to open a new Mail account with new settings. This has been carried out successfully, but I need to transfer the contents of my old In and Out boxes to the new Mail account. Any advice as to how I can do this? I wish to delete the redundant account. I have tried exporting the boxes but they refuse to be dragged to the new account.
Many thanks for any advice. It's obvious really! Just Copy and Paste. Sorry everybody. Thread closed.

I have an iPhone 5s running iOS8 and an iPad, up to date. I have recently changed my mail server but not my email address. My "old" mail account is an Exchange account and I have also set up a "new" Exchange account with the same address but with the new mail server details. When I receive outside, third party emails they are routed correctly to the "new" Exchange account but when I bcc myself or receive other emails from any account with my domain name the emails are routed to my "old" Exchange account. I have changed the default account settings to the "new" Exchange account. Also, if I send myself an email from my laptop, through the new mail service provider, it is routed correctly on my laptop but incorrectly on my iPhone and iPad. It appears as though the Apple products have cached my email address and routing and won't look to pick up the new mail server details. I don't see anything in the mail account settings or contacts that allows me to refresh or clear the cache. The result is I now have mail in 2 accounts. If I can get the misdirected mail from the odl account to the new one I will then make the old account inactive. Anyone have any ideas on this one?
Thanks in advance for your time and ideas,
DAACan you set up a rule in your old account to forward mail to your new account and then delete it from the old account?

When opening my Outlook 2010 with new added e-mail account with Exchange Server supplied by my employer, I have to click manually on my standard e-mail account for checking mail. Do I have to upgrade my Microsoft Office 2010 or how can I make my Outlook
2010 check all my four e-mail accounts without manually click on my accounts?
Sincerely
Ketil HothorpHello Ketil,
Good Day...
Seems to be the Issue is Syncing emails, now I would recommend you to Remove and Add the Account and try and check if the emails are getting synced automatically.
Hope this is with Single User. If it is with Multiple Users then we need to check the permissions assigned.

STRANGE PROBLEM with "Create New Mail Account.scpt" when creating POP acct.
I am using "Create New Mail Account.scpt" to create a POP account. It creates the account successfully. It fetches the mails successfully. Now the problem begins. After fetching all the mails once if u click "Get Mail" in mac mail, it fetches all the emails again and has now 1 original and 1 copy of the email set which is on the server. I just need 1 copy of the mail set not multiple. Please give me a solution or direct me to a help.
Thanks
