• Ora-01219 database not open; only queries on fixed tables and views.

Hi everyone
There is another post stating this error, but since the source is different, I think is okay to make a different post as well.
Our database was working fine until the other day, when suddenly power went off, UPS was damaged and didn't hold, and when we restarted the database this is what happens:
Using Enterprise Manager Console, we can make a succesful connection in the same machine, but if we choose Schema, the following error appears:
ora-01219 database not open; only queries on fixed tables and views.
When accesing from a different machine:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
Thanks in advance

• Can't start database 8.1.7.1 on Mandrake 8.0

Hi all,
I had some trouble getting the installer to work, but applied

• Can't start database getting ORA-01081 error

Hi Everyone,
I am having an odd issue. Last week we had to take down a database hard due to an issue with san space on an AIX server. Once doing this I brought the database up without issue.
We have a cold backup script that runs nightly that shutdowns and startups the database but we are having an issue:
Database goes downs no problem with backup script:
SQL> Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
But when it attempts to start the database it comes back with the following error:
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
Yet I can login to the server and start it without issue.
Then last night I shut it down manually to see what is going on. I shut it down and checked on the server (ps -ef |grep db1) but didn't see any processes out there for that database. When backup kicked off again shut it down but couldn't start due to ora-01081 error. But I could start it this morning.
Am I missing something here? I see no processes running but clearly something is causing this error?
Thanks
Troy

Hi Kuljeet in regards to note 1010214.6 will ipcrm -m or ipcrm -s shutdown anything? We have 8 databases running out there so I don't want to accidently kill off anything. Oddly enough only one is having this problem.

• I can not start Database Control Website

I installed Oracle DB 10.2.0.1.0 and also can connect with http://localhost:1158/em to handle database at that time. But I could not find the web page now. I feel maybe the port has changed.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Need I confige the port?

Did you do any changes since it worked?
I would run "emctl status dbconsole" to see the status. It could be that it's stopped and then you would just execute emctl start dbconsole.

"ORA-27010: shared memory realm does not exist".
I have setted the memory parameter of kernel in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
echo 250 32000 100 256 > /proc/sys/kernel/sem
echo 671088640 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax.
How can resolve the problem? My system has 512M RAM, PIV 1.7G CPU and the swap space is 640M.
Thanks very much!

First of all, how are you starting up the Engine? Did you setup an init script, if that's true can you post it. Try to start manually (dgmgrl), to see if everything is ok. If you see a problem ( like -> "can't find init file"), then I realize, the answer which could help you.

• [solved]can't start gnome as user

I can't start gnome as user only as root.
error message: failed to create file /tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-kx6h6t:Permission denied (error=13)
I think this is an pacman error (permissions)
I made an clean install because last pacman -Syu crash my os.
And i get the error as above so i can't get it to work.
I also tried to run enlightment but several applications don't start.
How to solve this?
Solution was i wiki :chmod 1777 /tmp

error message: failed to create file /tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-kx6h6t:Permission denied (error=13)
this is the problem, it states that it can't create a file because of a lack of permissions to do so. Its trying to create the file in /tmp, so that tells us that /tmp directory has permissions that aren't correct or gnome would work. What u need to do is
ls -ld /tmp
and post the results here so someone can tell u how to put the correct permissions up.
edit: I see u found the answer yourself.

• Startup command starts database but alter database open read only gives error

Hi,
I'm having some strange behavior. I've 10.2.0.3 database on windows 2003.
The startup command starts database without any issues.
But if I try following it gives error.
startup mount (successful no errors)
alter database open read only; gives error that file Mnnnnnn is missing.
Why this is happening and how to fix it?
Thanks.

You really need to show us exactly what Oracle is telling you, using copy and paste, so we can have some clue. You can hide details like instance and host names if they show up.
I'm wondering if you had some messed up offline datafile in a tablespace, where Oracle handles it with startup, but gets upset when you try to open read-only. It's some bizarro sequence of events like: add a datafile to a tablespace, decide that was a mistake, alter it offline, then remove it from the OS without telling Oracle any more about it. I've come back from vacation to find scenarios like this, it winds up being a time-bomb trying to recreate a standby later. Or something like that, I could be unremembering some details.

• Database Mount and open only exclusive after cluster upgrade to 11R2 Window

Hi,
i just finish my 2 nodes upgrade of my cluster from 11.1.7 to 11.2.0.1 under windows. In the upgrade, everything work fine.
Now, when i connect to my database i can see only one of the 2 nodes have the database open. When i check the log i can see the first node open the database in exclusive mode, so, the second one can not opened because a instance already working with it.
How can i change the mount of the database in share mode so the cluster can open the database for the 2 nodes?
I would like to connect in local mode to close and open mount it in share mode but,
i'm not able to connect anymore in sqlplus in local mode, Why?
What have been change, the listener is not the same, now i have 3 listeners, one for each node and on global?
I'm shure i'm missing something, but i do not find the info the the documents.
Any help will be welcome

I finaly found the problem.
After the upgrade the oracle_home was not set correctly

• After my last update I can't start up an other keynote presentation from a link (only when the other presentation is already open) I hope there will be an fix soon.

After my last update I can't start up an other keynote presentation from a link (only when the other presentation is already open) I hope there will be an fix soon.
I thought it was because of Lion but with snow leopard i have the same problem (On another Mac).
Other solutions????

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

• How to stop and start listener auto. when database is open and shutdown?

Hi,
is there a way, in Window , i can shutdown the listener service when the database is shutdown (the rdbms service still up) and startup the listener when the database is open?
Thanks

Ron_B wrote:
In simple way,
when the window rdbms service is runing and the database is in shutdown or stop state, the listener have to be stop.
The listener have to be start only when the database pass from nomount to mount. With mentioning the fact that there is abosultely no such dependency between listener and database, I am really curious to know that why you want to do it? Listener is merely a process and even if its running, there is no such harm or resource consumption it would do that you need to shut it down as and when db would be.
