Can't start database getting ORA-01081 error
Hi Everyone,
I am having an odd issue. Last week we had to take down a database hard due to an issue with san space on an AIX server. Once doing this I brought the database up without issue.
We have a cold backup script that runs nightly that shutdowns and startups the database but we are having an issue:
Database goes downs no problem with backup script:
SQL> Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
But when it attempts to start the database it comes back with the following error:
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
Yet I can login to the server and start it without issue.
Then last night I shut it down manually to see what is going on. I shut it down and checked on the server (ps -ef |grep db1) but didn't see any processes out there for that database. When backup kicked off again shut it down but couldn't start due to ora-01081 error. But I could start it this morning.
Am I missing something here? I see no processes running but clearly something is causing this error?
Thanks
Troy
Hi Mahir yes I can connect. Here it is:

Hi Kuljeet in regards to note 1010214.6 will ipcrm -m or ipcrm -s shutdown anything? We have 8 databases running out there so I don't want to accidently kill off anything. Oddly enough only one is having this problem.
Thanks

No, you are not.
- You are not using the correct version doc vs. Oracle server version. Try to find the same suggestion in the relevant doc.
- The doc you reference specifically says "... it can be used only under special circumstances. The ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET statement does not perform any data conversion, so it can be used +if and only if the new character set is a strict superset of the current character set+." (emphasis is mine)
You do not have a strict superset.
- Also the special clauses you have used are not documented - for a reason.
Please edit your posts above to remove the ill-advice (steps with internal use only clauses) that does not belong on a forum.

Datafinder can't start due to an internal error.
After installing LabVIEW 2009SP1 and DIAdem, I get the following popup every time I restart the computer:
"The datafinder can't start due to an internal error. (244) Please wait until the National Instruments PSP Service is running and try starting Datafinder again."
I'm not very familiar with the NI PSP Service or how to get it running. I tried to repair the LabVIEW installation but no luck.
Has anyone seen this before?Hi West,
It's probably a corrupted install of the distributed systems manager. You can uninstall it and reinstall it by downloading it here (http://www.ni.com/download/ni-distributed-system-manager-2013/4216/en/).

Get ORA-12560 error while accessing 11g database
Database version: 11.2.0.1.0
This is a development database running on CentOS. We had setup this database recently and everything has been fine. Today I noticed that when I connect to the database from remote, I get the following error -
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I'm able to get in to the database after logging in directly into the database server via putty. I have stopped & restarted the database, but with no help. I have checked the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID) and they seem to be fine.
Can you please help on what might be the problem here? Is this something to do with some change in the OS firewall setting?

Need help trouble shooting Database Gateway for MS SQL Server setup, getting ORA-28546 error
Dear All,

Obviously, I would like to get this setup to work, but I also have couple other questions regarding this setup.
1. When installing the gateway, it asks to run the root.sh script. the root.sh script as for the following.
Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]:
The file "dbhome" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)
[n]: n
The file "oraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)
[n]: n
The file "coraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin. Overwrite it? (y/n)
[n]: n
is the above answer correct?

Hello All,
I am using forms 10g (10.1.2.3.0) version with database 11g (11.1.0.6.0).
I did some modification in a package. That package is getting called in the forms. After doing modification (just add one if condition) in the package procedure (Not added parameter) I connected to the application and calling the form. I am getting the error message "ORA-12703". After that if I am just compile all the forms, one form is working fine. But in some other form it is not working properly. Still I am getting the error message "ORA-12703". I just put some debug message in the package and form, I compiled both form and package. At this time both are working fine. But if I am putting some debug message in the package only then it is not working. Getting the same error message.
Does it a forms or database issue or I need to do some thing? Any suggestion welcome.
Thanks
SUNORA-12703 this character set conversion is not supported
Cause: An attempt was made to use the CONVERT function to convert between two character sets, and the requested conversion is not possible due to unavailability of one or both character sets.
Action: Use character sets available on the system in the CONVERT function.
What character set do you have on the database and what charset on the client side? Maybe SQL*Net issues the convert function when you use different charsets for both? -
Getting ora-01113 error while opening Database after recovery
HI all,
we have a test database. I lost my entire database including DBFs, controlfiles, Archived logs, redo log files.
But I have a hot backup copy of the lost database.
I tried to recover database using backup copy
I restored my control files and all dbfs and then when i tried to recover database I got the following message
RMAN-00571: ==============================
RMAN-00569: =ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =
RMAN-00571: ===============================

RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1 scn 32230460
still i tried to open database resetlogs but i got following eror
RMAN> alter database open resetlogs:
ORA-01113: file 5 needs media recovery
ORA-01110: data file 5: C:\DB11\ORADATA\DB11\system01.dbf
I dont have any redo logs and archivelogs. Can anyone help me how to open the database
thanks and regards
VENKATno there is no other way allowresetlogs_corruption is one of the last resort unless oracle dont recommend, usually you got this error when restored datafile is far behind then others datafile CKPT SCN+COntrolfile CKPT SCN header.
SQL> select controlfile_change#,checkpoint_change#
2 from v$database
3 /
CONTROLFILE_CHANGE# CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#
675632 675775
SQL> select substr(name,1,51) fname,checkpoint_change#
2 from v$datafile_header
3 /
FNAME CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#
F:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.1.0\ORADATA\PROD\SYSTEM01.DBF 675775
F:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.1.0\ORADATA\PROD\UNDOTBS01.DBF 675775
F:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.1.0\ORADATA\PROD\SYSAUX01.DBF 675775
F:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.1.0\ORADATA\PROD\USERS01.DBF 675775
F:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.1.0\ORADATA\PROD\USERS02.DBF[b] 675418user02.dbf CKPT SCN header 675418 is earlier/oldest CKPT SCN header to others datafile as well to controilfile CKPT SCN header.
You will have to apply enough redo to that datafile either from archivelog or from online redo log file,if you cant then no way you can open the database except using allowresetlogs_corruption with the oracle recommendation.
Think why archivelog backup ,database backup and online redo log file, controlfile redundency is recommended.

10g stopped working after 11g installed. Getting ORA-12514: error
I had Oracle 10g installed in win2000 sp2. with port 1521.
I have installed Oracle 11g on the same system. with port 1522.
I am able to start both the instances and tnslistener but I am not able to connect to Oracle10g database. Getting following error.
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
I have done the following check.

I am not able to see my tek10g 10g database details.
I also checked my tnsnames.ora file which has the entries properly.
Sqlnet.ora file has
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
How to solve this issue? Is that possible to run oracle 10g and oracle 11g in same host?
Thanks in Advance...
regards,
ManikandanThe approach I would take, in general is:
1) pick a listener, and only one. Get that working.
2) Make sure all the databases register to that listener
3) Fix the TNSNAMES.ORA files appropriately.
To fix the listener
1) Verify the listener address matches the current environment
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server) << - MUST point to correct HOME
(PROGRAM = extproc)
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myHOST)(PORT = myPORT))
)where
myHOST is this host's resolvable name or IP address
myPORT is the port (default 1521) that the listener should monitor
The HOST is often a problem if the machine uses DHCP.
2) Register the databases
On startup, database will auto-register to the listener defined in the init parameter 'LOCAL_LISTENER', which defaults to 'HOST={current_host}, PORT=1521'
After startup, if the listener is taken down, you can register each database manually using the DBA command
ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;
Either way, it should show up in the output of 'lsnrctl status'
While you are accessing the database, you might want to find out which services the database supports. That can be done in SQLPlus using the command
SHOW PARAMETER SERVICE_NAMES
Note that the database name is the default service name.
3) Fix [all] the TNSNAMES.ORA file[s].
Each SERVICE_NAME from the previous list that you want to access from this client, yu should find an entry that looks like
myTEST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myHOST)(PORT = myPORT))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = mySERVICE)
myTEST is the alias I want to look up by using it as the connect target string.
myHOST should match the HOST= entry in the LISTENER.ORA
myPORT MUST match the PORT= entry in the LISTENER.ORA
mySERVICE is the Service to which I am asking the listener to connect me, as found in the lsnrctl status output -
Materialized view fast refresh ...getting ORA-22992: error
Hi All,
Oracle version 11.1.0.7
While creating a materialized view(Fast refresh) on remote tables ... i am getting the ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables ... error.
but the actual scenario is... i am not selecting any of the BLOB/LOB columns from the remote tables. I did n't include them in my materialized query.
I am able to refresh it complete but couldn't refresh it fast. Here i want to mention other thing... when ever i have records in Mat view log(Base table has a blob cloumns in it)
i am getting the above error. when no record in the Mat view log(i.e on BLOB base table) .. i can able to refresh it as FAST.
MV_CAPABILITIES table tells that ...My Mat view is able to refresh it FAST.I don't know howw to approach to solve this issue.could some one tell me the approach..to solve it?
Here is the sample code ....this is what i have done so fat

Thanks,
MikeThanks for the reply
In that he/she is selecting the LOB column from the remote database(master site).
I am just referencing the table which has BLOB column in it.I am not referencing any LOB column in my select(Mat view) query...
is there anything i need to check..?
