Can't text to other services?

I was texting a friend who is on another service from Verizon at around 1am eastern time August 6 2011. Suddenly, it said the message failed to send. I tried many other people and very few of them will have my texts be sent. I figured out through trial and error that the only people I can send or recieve texts from are other Verizon wireless users. Anyone with att&t, sprint, or anything else, I can't text at all. I thought maybe I had reached my limit for the month, because I checked online and it said I was 3 texts over the limit. However, I checked again an hour or so ago and now it says that I am 86 texts under it. I've turned my phone on and off multiple times to try and fix it. I've gone into strong service areas. I've removed the battery and put it back in. I've looked online everywhere I can think of and searched this website high and low for information on this and I haven't found a single helpful thing. This is getting unbelievably frustrating.
Can anyone give me any sort of hint as to what is going on??

Hello rudikdf! Thanks for sharing about your experience with messaging on your device. You mentioned that you had checked your usage and found that you were over your allowance. Question: Do you know if you have a Usage Control feature attached to your mobile number? If you're not sure what that means, VZW offers Usage Controls can be set to prevent you from sending messages beyond a certain number or from messaging during certain times of the day.

You should be able to receive texts from iPhone users. I text my brother from my iPhone to his Samsung Android phone all the time with no issues at all. Are they sending the text to your phone number and not to your email address?

You can only use the Messages app with other iOS users. It does not send SMS text messages. You need to use a third party texting app if you want to text with non iOS users.
Look at TextFree or Viber.

Welcome to our family dm123. As a new customer I know there is no fun in having text issues. Ann154 is correct, the porting process may be taking a while to complete. I would also remove all third party messaging applications from your phone, then test out your messaging. Are the problems with specific contacts? Try restoring your phone with iTunes. Keep us posted on your issue.

The iPhone can text other iPhones using iMessage. If you have set MMS and SMS to On, try contacting your carrier and having them make sure everything is setup correctly.

Can I text for free with another iphone if we're both roaming in the USA?

Two of us are going across the border into the US and each of us has the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. Can we text each other for free or do we have to sign up for a roaming package?

Texting requires celluar. iMessage, which you could use since you both have iOS devices, COULD be free, if you were both on wifi, however if not, then you would need a data plan.

How do you text with other people not on an iPad or I phone?

Why doen't iphone receive texts from other iphones.

I have recently bought iphone 5C for the first time, I have had an ipad for a long time which I use for imessages through wifi.   I thought that when I am out and about away from wifi I would receive sms/text from other iphones like I had with my previous basic mobile, but this doesn't happen, although I can send texts to other iphones. Also when I return to a wifi area imessage that have been picked up by my ipad then don't appear on my iphone. When both the iphone and ipad are using wifi when an imesssage is received the message appears on both devices. Is this usual as I would like to receive texts from other iphones as it could be important.

Is iMessage turned on your phone?    It doesn't sound like it.
I would disable iMessage on BOTH your iPad and iPhone.   Enable it on iPhone first, then iPad 2nd.
Try again and let us know if it's working properly.

When I try to turn on my iPhone 4, it wouldn't turn on unless if I use an iPad Charger. When it will turn on. I can't connect to any WiFi Services or my Service Provider, I can't text or call anyone. When I unplug my iPhone 4 it'll just shut off.

So when I try to plug in My iPhone 4 to any plug it won't turn on or charge unless if I use an iPad charger. When I do get to turn it on. My Phone will Standby for a few seconds( While I'm Typing my 4-Digit Code) then it'll unlock and go to the home screen. Once I'm on the home Screen I can't Call, Text or Email anyone because my iPhone Can't detect any Wifi Hotspots and it also can't connect to my Service Provider, It'll just Say "Searching...". The non-internet apps work perfectly fine. So since I was able to use Just an iPad Charger to turn on my iPhone 4, I tried a Regular iPhone charger that were plugged into a wall or my computer. When its Plugged in, my iPhone will turn on ( Showing the Apple Logo) then turn back off. It'll constanly do this only when it's plugged into a Regular iPhone Charger, Either plugged into a Wall Socket or my Computer. So I Tried to Restore the Phone by using some of the Methods, given by other iPhone 4 Users, non of them worked. My iPhone won't Restart, Restore, Turn on without a Charger, Be Detected on my Computer and Detect my Service Provider. I really need help to fix my iPhone 4. I'm really not sure if it's a Malfunction with the Software on the iPhone, if my Sim Card is Broken. if the System is Corrupted but it only happens Rarely.

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

Because you can text does not mean you can locate.
Tow possiblities off the top of my head:
Location Services turned off (check in Settings > Location Services)
Restrictions are set for location (check in Settings > General > Restrictions)

Devour - Can't Receive Texts from other Carriers

Lately i've been having issues with receiving texts from other Carriers. I've already reset my phone multiple times, both hard and soft. All applications were deleted, i deleted conversations, wiped all conversations, re-texted the person, and tested who gets what.
Basically in a nutshell,
T-Mobile, i can occasionally get texts from.
Sprint, AT&T, Virgin, and any and all subsidiaries of forementioned carriers send replies i cannot get.
Every carrier can receive my message. i cannot receive theirs.
Verizon does work - for send and receive.
voicemails do work, i can leave one, and they can call me.
i've tested every method suggested over and over. im at the end of my rope. My job requires that my phone can receive messages from the employees and bosses, and all of them aren't Verizon-based. Somebody, please help. No, getting a new phone isn't feasible, and all my other phones are broken, except this one...and this was the first phone i actually owned three years ago.

I got my iPhone 4s in America and they told me as long as i have the chip in i can use any sim card i want in the uk, when i come back home the simcard i use normal won't work in it then i tried using different simcard which was Lyca mobile and it works expect i can't text and it say no service at all what should i Do

I made my own apple id because my family was getting my texts from other people. I want to add my device to my dads find my iphone app on his icloud but can't figure out how, without having to log in to his apple id on my phone. how do i add my device?

I made my own Apple ID because when I was logged into my dad's my family was receiving my texts from other people. I want to add my device to my dad's "find my iphone" app but without signing into his Apple ID on my phone because that was causing them to get my texts. I was told by Apple I could add my device to his by signing into icloud.com but there is no option that I can find to add my device. And I don't want to log back in to his.. Any ideas???

Also when I apply the safety copy it only imports the app the phones have had in common, so none of the apps that only the iPhone 4 had doesn't come in, only the ones I and the iPhone 4 has had in common. So you say the only way I can use the Apple ID to download on the old iPhone 4 is if I delete the apps that are in the phone and then download them again? How will that change the ID to download/update from. Won't it still have mine to update/download from?

Yes, if you are provisioned by your carrier to do so. IF both phones are iphones with IOS 5.0 or higher then you can use imessage.

HT5616 How can you see a list of devices registered to use our apple ID for FaceTime and other services?

Sometimes I will get a notification that x device is using my apple ID for FaceTime (or other services). Sometimes it is just generic Mac Book Pro. His can I see which devices are using my ID (and can you see more details than just the name)?

I just started getting this message too. Just started the last couple of days. It doesn't give a time that it was used. All it says that "appleid" was used to sign in to facetime on Macbook. My Macbook is not named "Macbook." It also doesn't correlate to times when computer is being used.
