Can the connection to a DB2 database be encrypted?

I'm wanting to connect to a remote DB2 database (i.e. not the database the SAP system is running on) and have the communication encrypted. Thanks to note 200164 I have deployed the DB2 CLI client and configured DBCO. I am now able to make connections to the DB2 database using exec sql statements. What I'm missing is any information on if and how the connection to the DB2 database can be encrypted. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I'm wanting to connect to a remote DB2 database and have the communication encrypted.
Perhaps if I'd put a colon after 'wanting' it would have been more clear? If you read it as "I'm wanting to connect to a remote DB2 database and I have the communication encrypted" then it doesn't really make sense, so I fail to see the ambiguity.
Anyway, are you saying that the DB2 user can be set to require encryption on the DB2 database server, and that in this case no changes are required on the client side to accomplish encryption? This would be a suitable solution to my problem. I had been lead to believe that encryption must be specified on both the server and client side for it to work.

  • How can I use the Connection Pool with DB2

    Hi All,
    I am facing the problem with the usage for the Connection Pool.
    I want to use DB2 via JNDI lookup.
    But when starting the Weblogic server, Error occured with the following message.
    <Error> <JDBC> <Cannot startup connection pool "MyJDBCPool" Cannot load driver class : com.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver>
    DB2 and Weblogic are on the same machine.
    In case of the use of remote DB2 database, I also encountered the same error.
    Configurations are as follows.
    <JDBCConnectionPool DriverName="com.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver"

    <SNMPAgent Name="mydomain"/>
    <JDBCDataSource JNDIName="acsdb" Name="acsdb" PoolName="MyJDBCPool" Targets="myserver"/>
    Could you please give some information about this problem? I will appreciate your kindness.

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks your help.
    Perhaps It's my fault for Weblogic console's setting.
    After I reset the target server in console, Error message disappeared.
    But, when I call the TestCode, I encountered another error message. The error
    is NameNotFoundException.
    When lookingup the JNDI name, NameNotFoundException errer occured. I tried to
    change my setting and JNDI name, but the results are the same.
    Would you please give me some information about this one more time? I will be
    appreciated for your help.

  • Tables not shown in connections tree for DB2 databases

    Hi!
    I often use SQL Developer to connect to our DB2 databases. However, when I expand the desired schema in a DB2 database, the Tables node is empty, although it should not be. There are tables in that schema and I can select data from them, so security is not an issue:
    For example:
    select tabschema, tabname from syscat.tables where tabschema not like 'SYS%' order by 1,2;
    returns many schema names and table names is those schemas. Let's pick one, i.e table name METER_TYPE in schema METER ( there are 4 tables in schema METER)
    select count(*) from meter.meter_type
    returns: 38
    However, the Tables node shows no tables. Tese tables are not Aliases (DB2 slang for synonyms) or views, however, those 2 nodes are also empty when they should not be - we have schemas with aliases and views, which are also NOT shown. The Index node is populated most frequently, but not completely (there are indexes missing).
    Here are my details (don't be fooled by java 1.7, the behaviour is the same with 1.6):

    It doesn't sound like this is the answer in your case, but here is a problem I had with tree icons in 6i which took me a while to figure out.
    For some unknown and probably pointless reason, forms converts the tree query to uppercase before executing it. This can cause problems if the sql contains any hardcoded strings. In my case I was doing something like
    decode(status,1,'red',2,'green')||icon_name
    this resulted in REDicon when my icon was actually redicon.gif

  • How can I connect to MySQL external database

    Hello.
    I have a SAP system running in SQL Server 2003.
    I need to connect to external MySQL DB., to operate with this information in ABAP program.
    I have done the step necesary... I mean I go to DBCO transaction and configure the connection like this:
    DB CONNECTION --> AFIS
    DBMS --> MSS
    user name --> xxxxxx
    DBpass -->xxxxxx / xxxxxx
    Conn Info -->MSSQL_SERVER=192.168.1.233 MSSQL_DBNAME=alliance OBJECT_SOURCE=alliance
    I do a test program, when I do the statement CONNECT TO, sy-subrc 0 and connection = DEFAULT... I mean, with this form I cannot connect to MySQL Database...
    Can you help me to do this?? I think the problem it's the connection string in DBCO... but I'm not sure...,
    Would be possible to connect by MySQL ODBC??? I mean , installing the ODBC driver in my SAP server, and using this in ABAP Program??
    Thks.
    DATA: BEGIN OF wa,
    cod_modelo(20),
    END OF wa.
    DATA: dbs TYPE dbcon-con_name.
    DATA: con(20) TYPE c.
    DATA : ls_wa LIKE wa.
    con = 'AFIS'. "DB Connection in DBCO above
    EXEC SQL.
    CONNECT TO :con
    ENDEXEC.
    WRITE sy-subrc. ---> The result it's 4
    EXEC SQL.
    GET CONNECTION :con
    ENDEXEC.
    WRITE : con. --> The result it's DEFAULT
    EXEC SQL.
    SET CONNECTION DEFAULT
    ENDEXEC.
    write : con. --> The result it's DEFAULT

    > It's for it, that when I go to DBCO... in DBMS ---... I can select Oracle, MSSQLServer, DB2... for this Databases..., exists the library (lib_dbsl)???
    yes, for all those databases exists the database interface library.
    > In resume:
    >  IT'S NOT POSSIBLE CONNECT TO MYSQL!!! ... I cannot believe it!!!...
    Well - as far as I remember there were some times ago efforts to port SAP applications to MySQL. That would explain why there's also a file "DDLMYS.TPL" created if you execute R3ldctl during a system copy - amongst DDL files for all other databases. I believe this was at the time MySQL was promoting SAPDB/MaxDB.
    MySQL is historically not a database engine for software, that requires transactional integrity; there were extensions to support that (InnoDB or others) and there was no customer demand in getting MySQL as engine for SAP applications. And only develop an interface to be able to connect to an external MySQL engine is not worth the effort.
    However, there is hope Some BusinessObjects applications also run with and against MySQL engines, depending on how the strategy to integrate those into the SAP software stack there may (or may not) be an interface for that database in the future.

    I am trying to make a soruce sytem connection to the folowing datbase Server
    Database: DB2 UDB
    OS: AS400
    But as per note 523381, we have to go for a SAP Application Server. but even then the libdbsl file is not exisiting for AS400 machine.
    Please guide us of what we can do.
    Have any one faced this situation before

    Even when we go for a Windows Application Server, we could not find the DBSL file for DB2 UDB in AS400.
    We are referring to the DBSL File located in

  • Status metric for the OEM plugin for DB2 Databases

    Hi,
    I am doing some testing of the OEM system monitoring plug-in for an IBM DB2 Database. I am starting with some very basic alerts such as when an instance is down. However, it is not working as I would expect. When the instance is stopped using the command db2stop I would expect OEM to determine that the database is down. However, OEM reports a metric collection error and not the database being down.
    Does anybody have any experience with DB2 databases and OEM?
    Thanks,
    Christine

    By creating Groups for specific targets and authoriizing access to these groups you can have users only "seeing" databases or certain databases and other users only being able to see certain Middleware components etc.

  • Can we connect and access SAP database using db adapter?

    Hi,
    I need couple of details:
    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables?
    2) Where can I download SAP adapter? How to install it? and how to plug that in to the JDev?
    Cheers

    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables? It is possible as long as back-end DB version of SAP are supported by DB adapter. Oracle recommends SAP connectivity through Oracle Application Adapter for SAP rather than direct connection to SAP Database tables.

  • Can we connect Mapview to multidimensional database and retrieve data

    I have zero knowledge on MapViewer and hence I am curious to know, if we can connect MapViewer to multidimensional database(Like Essbase etc...) and retrieve data from them ???

    Currently, MapViewer needs a conection to an Oracle Database where MapViewer metadata is stored. You may be able to access external spatial data if there is a java implementation of an interface to access external native data. MapViewer provides a spatial provider implementation for shapefiles. For other data, including from external databases, you may be able to access them if a java class implements the spatial provider interface class. Mapviewer Users Guide has some notes about implementing a external spatial provider.

  • How many BW 7.3 systems can be connected to one HANA database?

    Hello Gurus,

    You can connect as many systems as you want with the HANA (also 3 BWs).....The problem is, that you only have 1 system, which is able to put the data real-time into the HANA via SLT...the other systems will load their data via ETL into HANA...
    I am not aware about any such restriction. It should be possible to have as many SLT systems replicated as you like. Can you explain why only one SLT is possible?

    i would like to connect more than one database one my laptop
    now i have database one and sid=ddms
    and i would another such as sid=ddmf
    how can i connect two database on the same my laptop

    I am not sure what you mean by after built? Are you trying to export data from one database and import it into another? If so, export it using data pump making sure you have the correct ORACLE_SID. Also be sure both database have to same character set. Then change the ORACLE_SID to other database, and run data pump to import the data into the other database. Hope that makes any sense...

  • Why does the connection to a local database get lost when the network is disconnected?

    I am using TestStand 3.1. I have a database setup on the local drive and I am using the "Log on the Fly" option.
    The test takes 48 hours and I want to make sure that it will not stop if the network connection is lost.
    If I unplug the network before starting the test, everything is fine. I can plug the network in and out again while the test runs with no issue.
    But if the network is connected and I start the test, and then unplug the network the logging on the fly will give an error.
    I have narrowed this down to the step "New UUT for Database Logging" in the SequentialModel.seq (process model). If this step is run with the network connection then the rest of the test needs a network connection.
    Is there any way to avoid this error?  The whole point of the local database was to avoid network issues.
    Thank you for your help.
