Can' use Widgets in iWeb '09

Hello,
I have problems to use the widgets in iWeb. I had the problems with iWeb '08 too and after upgrading to iWeb '09 the problems remain.
I get some screenshots. Maybe they could help. You can see their how the Google Maps and the HTML widget looks like for me. Its an empty block with a blue border and no content.
Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/dja8gv
HTML: http://tinyurl.com/c8e9k2
Did anybody have an idea what's wrong with my iWeb?
I found nowhere any solution.
Thanks for your help.

I remember people having problems like this with iWeb '08.
As far as I can remember and reinstall is required.
The Google map sometimes causes problems outside of the USA because local postal codes are different from the US ZIP code format. But it should work to some extent.
Backup your domain file from Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb before deleting the application and the .plist.
Reinstall from the DVD using custom install.
Relaunch iWeb, run the update and do a restart before attempting to use the application.

  • How can I use widgets as applications OUT OF DAHBOARD ?

    Hello dear friends,
    How can I do to use Widgets as applications *OUT of Dashboard* ?
    I know there is a way, and I've noticed TinkerTool can do it, but how to proceed ?
    I think I should ask them directly, but I didn't for the moment,
    and I'd rather prefer to proceed with an Apple solution
    than with a third party software.
    Does anybody have the solution ?
    Thank you for responding
    With my kind regards

  • IWeb is not working for sending podcasts to iTunes, so I need a new web building tool. What is the closest thing to iWeb that I can use, which also supports podcasts?

    iWeb is not working for sending podcasts to iTunes, so I need a new web building tool. What is the closest thing to iWeb that I can use, which also supports podcasts?

    There's no reason you can't go on using iWeb for this - with iWeb '08 you have to publish to a local folder (i.e. on your Mac) and then upload the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) to your hosting service: and you have to make sure you enter the new URL in the Publish information or the feed won't work properly; this done, an iWeb podcast should work fine.
    Of course there is still the problem that iWeb is not supported and sooner or later a system upgrade may break it. You could look at RapidWeaver: you can make podcasts with that, though the last time I looked into that - which was admittedly some time back - I didn't feel it was ideal for this. There are lots of other podcast creation programs or services around. WordPress is OK but it may be a bit of a steep learning curve: Libsyn is an online service that seems to work reliably. Blogger writes messy feeds but does usually work. Podcast Maker used to work well - I used it myself a few years back - but it rather looks as if it's gone moribund and it may not be reliable with Lion/Mountain Lion, so you would want to check into that.

  • I have been using DREAMWEAVER MX for almost ten years to keep a website up-to-date. Can I switch to iWeb now to do the job, and if so, how do I go about it?

    With MacOS 10.7 looming on the horizon, using veteran software DREAMWEAVER MX any longer does not seem to be such a good idea. I would like to use an editor that can cope with the new MacOS. Is iWeb that editor?
    Specifically, I need some clarity on these issues:
    Can I switch to iWeb now to  create and publish content in my old website for which I have been using DREAMWEAVER MX?
    Can I use the html layout I have been using in DREAMWEAVER, or do I have to steel myself for drastic changes?
    How do I import the complete website into iWeb – if at all?

    If you switch to iWeb you will have to build the site from scratch since iWeb can't read or import html files.  Also since  the future of iWeb is a little uncertain as to if it will be continued to be supported by Apple it might not be the best move at this time.
    You might look into upgrading to Dreamweaver for Mac.

  • What is the most current iweb version I can use to maximize my capabilities?

    I have G5 a power pc running 10.4.8 because of final cut issues - what is the most current version of iweb I can use to maximize my capabilities? i have it right now and can only host one site in it, etc. (though I build multuiples)
    brent

    The latest version of iWeb you can run with 10.4.9 is iWeb 2.  iWeb 3 requires Leopard, 10.5.8 or later.

    There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
    In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Can I make an aperture slideshow and use it in iweb?

    I need to know if I can make an aperture slideshow and use it in iweb (not making it a quicktime movie)? I don't want to use I photo (I know how to make one in Iphoto and put it in Iweb and I dont want to do this). (dont want a .mac gallery either) Please help. thank you!!!

    Aperture slide shows are just for review. They can not be output. TBMK
    Honestly, you've exhausted most of what iLife can do, and quicktime will probably be your output even if you go to Keynote to make your slide show.
    But with Keynote you'll have more control over how the Quicktime is compressed.
    Otherwise, you're looking at the expense AND the learning curve of Flash.
    Maybe someone else will chime in with a 3rd party solution.

  • How can I launch a site that I designed for a client using their MobileMe account? Can they 'open' my iWeb files on their iWeb software?

    How can I launch a site that I designed for a client using their MobileMe account? Can they 'open' my iWeb files on their iWeb software?

    If you give them the Domain.sites2 file that iWeb used to create the site  they will be able to open it with iWeb application (it has to be the same version as you have) and make changes.  But if you're expected to also make changes you'll need a way to send that file back and forth between the two.
    Also there's an online MacWorld article that describes a way that both of you could manage the site using Dropbox.  Look at Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs.

  • Can someone please please tell me if I can use something like this on iweb?

    I want to create an entry page like this:
    http://charlizetheron.com/
    that uses flash for my son's website for his website. Is this possibble as an add on to iweb or can I use flash in iweb??? I can not figure this out!
    Thanks to anyone that can help me!!!

    Yes you can use it that way... maybe you could post your code as there may be another problem. The following code produces the correct result:
      public static void main( String[] args ) throws Exception {
        File f = new File( "c:/bitset" );
        ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream( new FileOutputStream( f ) );
        BitSet set = new BitSet(3);
        set.set(0);
        set.set(2);
        System.out.println( set );
        out.writeObject(set);
        out.close();
        ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream( new FileInputStream(f) );
        BitSet set2 = (BitSet)in.readObject();
        System.out.println( set2 );
        in.close();
      }

  • Social networking share widgets for iWeb... any solutions?

    I've been trying in vain for sometime to get one of the social networking share widgets (ShareThis, AddThis, TellaFriend) to work in iWeb 08 and am hoping someone might be able to help.
    With all i am pasting the code provided by these services into the HTML Snippet box. I am using the popup functions, since without doing so requires the HTML Snippet box to be resized unacceptably large obscuring other links on the page. The widgets are published fine, however the link they provide when posting to social networking site or included in an email add an additional extension on the URL that just links to an image of the widget. (i.e. http://web.me.com/fknott/CrystalCove_Properties_2//Home_files/widget1markup.html) the URL should end Home.html.
    Does anyone know how to fix this? the tech folks at each of these sites have been no help at all. Are there any other share widgets aside from these that will work seemlessly with iWeb?
    I really appreciate any help.
    Thank you,
    Troy

    Hello Marc,
    The code generated by ShareThis will not work with iWeb/insert HTML snippet.
    You'll have to put it inside the body tags of every HTML page at the location where you want it to show.
    Attention : the code is inserted after publishing = outside iWeb ! Every time you change a page in iWeb and publish it, you'll need to enter the code again.
    To automate this process you can use [TextWrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler>
    _ in iWeb on every page you want ShareThis, create a new textbox and add something that is unique and easy to find afterwards when the page is published as a HTML page : ex. AAAAAA,
    _ move the textbox to the location where you want it to show, resize if needed,
    _ publish your website with iWeb,
    _ mount your iDisk in the Finder,
    _ open TextWrangler and the first thing you do is "start recording",
    _ open the first HTML file you see in your Site, ex. index.html (It's OK if that page doesn't have the AAAAAA) +(when you have the ShareThis on a specific Site or Blog only, locate that folder),
    _ in the Search field enter AAAAAA,
    _ in the Replace fiel enter the code provided by ShareThis,
    _ do a "replace in all files in this folder" where you select your Site or Blog folder,
    _ stop recording and save the script for later,
    _ unmount iDisk from the finder.
    Done.
    On my Blog entry about [Favicons|http://www.site49.eu/Leo/Tips4Mac/Entries/2009/2/15_Favicons.html|Add favicons to iWeb websites] you can find some screenshots on how to use TextWrangler as an automated search and mass replace tool.
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Safari widgets in iweb?

    I create a safari widget and it shows in dashboard...great... but how can i use this widget in iWeb?
    hope someone can enlighten me?
    thanks

    They are called web clips, web clips data are store in one plist file so to use one of them you have to extract from plist file: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6720654
    Short answer to your question: not easy.

  • Dashboard Widgets for iWeb

    It would be great if Apple added the ability to add pre-canned coded widgets for inclusion into iWeb – This would allow us to add such things as local weather, Ski reports, stocks, webcams, news feeds etc...
    Just drop a widget onto the page as you would any other type of media, posistion it where you want it, job done!
    Possibly link this to .Mac and give me a reason to keep my account now that i don't use Homepage.
    Any thoughts?

    I made my point of not to volunteer my info in this
    forum, because some one here called my work hack, let
    that be known.
    I'm not punishing anyone, it's my way of controlling my works.
    Cyclosaurus:
    I don't think you are trying to punish anyone either... I really don't. But I think the entire iWeb community here stands to benefit from your renewed presence and hopefully continued and constructive thoughts. It is your prerogative as to how and with whom you choose to share your brilliant work, but honestly speaking, I think a lot of the new people around here won't know anything about your brilliance unless they are able to not only see but also to share in it. And that's the spirit of these forums anyways, don't you agree?
    As the person who ostensibly called your work a hack, I just wanted to say that I never intended to cause you so much personal anguish. You know yourself the best, so I won't pretend to understand fully how my comments affected you so. It's too bad you decided to withdraw from the forum, especially in the way that you chose to do it. Fortunately for you, I don't think that many people saw the full extent of your lashing out against me.
    Having said all of this, I want to apologize publicly for whatever disrespect that you interpreted from my comments. I have moved pass this, and I would have expected you to do the same by now. So take this for what it's worth. You don't need a welcome sign from me in order to participate here -- no one does. I welcome everyone as always, just as I was made to feel welcome. Stay and share if you like....if you don't, then don't. But let's let bygones be bygones. What do you say?

  • HT1005 Google map widget in iweb

    when I add Google map widget to the web page a picture appears saying "mobile me is closed" instead of the map. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks

  • How do I use webfonts with iWeb?

    I have purchased some webfonts from MyFonts and followed their instructions, adding an HTML snippet with the required code.
    When I view the site on a computer without the fonts installed it replaces the fonts with standard serif and non-serif fonts.
    The webfonts are available on the root level of the server along with the provided CSS file that uses them. The HTML code
    refers each page to this CSS file.
    Can anyone help?

    Is there anyway I can use iWeb to publish a simple good-old-fashioned html document?
    No. The whole purpose of iWeb is to enable people who don't know how to do what you did to publish websites anyway. All you need to do to "publish" your site is to put it on a server, either on .Mac via drag/drop or on something else via ftp.

  • How can I update my iWeb blog from multiple computers/iPhone/iPad?

    I want to be able to update my iWeb website and blog when I am not at home.
    I tried making a copy of the iWeb folder from the Library folder. This did not work.
    How I wished it would work......
    iWeb should work like Aperture, and iPhoto. I mean when I am at a friends computer I can open Aperture with my files and not theirs by choosing the Library file initializing the software. Why can't iWeb be configured to do this?
    Is there a way to update iWeb created websites when away from my home computer?

    ...is a free, cross-platform, remote desktop system that you can use to access your Mac from almost any system. You could log in to LogMeIn, open iWeb and edit & publish your site remotely via your home system. Note that LogMeIn is downloaded only to the Mac you want to remotely control — your office computer needs nothing new. See HERE.
    ...for iPhone and iPod touch provides instant one-click access to your LogMeIn computers, directly from your Apple device. Make your iPhone or iPod touch an extension of your work or home computer:
    • Use a program that's on your office computer
    • View a photo on your home desktop
    • Help a friend troubleshoot his or her computer
    • All from the palm of your hand, from wherever you are.
