They are called web clips, web clips data are store in one plist file so to use one of them you have to extract from plist file: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6720654
Short answer to your question: not easy.

  • Can' use Widgets in iWeb '09

    Hello,
    I have problems to use the widgets in iWeb. I had the problems with iWeb '08 too and after upgrading to iWeb '09 the problems remain.
    I get some screenshots. Maybe they could help. You can see their how the Google Maps and the HTML widget looks like for me. Its an empty block with a blue border and no content.
    Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/dja8gv
    HTML: http://tinyurl.com/c8e9k2
    Did anybody have an idea what's wrong with my iWeb?
    I found nowhere any solution.
    Thanks for your help.

    I remember people having problems like this with iWeb '08.
    As far as I can remember and reinstall is required.
    The Google map sometimes causes problems outside of the USA because local postal codes are different from the US ZIP code format. But it should work to some extent.
    Backup your domain file from Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb before deleting the application and the .plist.
    Reinstall from the DVD using custom install.
    Relaunch iWeb, run the update and do a restart before attempting to use the application.

  • How do you embed a Bookeo widget in iWeb? Use iFrames?

    I am trying to embed a Bookeo widget (Bookeo is a website that maintains bookings for business, such as tours) using iWeb.
    1. First step, the instructions from Bookeo say to insert the following HTML code where you want the code to appear.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://bookeo.com/widget.js?a=231MUKEPR13769HL64DC"></script>
    I used the HTML Snippet but all I got was the spinning wheel.
    2. Second step, Bookeo suggested that Bookeo widget is inside another iframe, and since iframes are not resizable  I needed to reset the height attribute to 1500 px.  Bookeo suggested the following code.
    <iframe id="widget2-frame" src=".//Payment_files/widget2_markup.html" frameborder="0" style="width: 100%; height: 1500px;" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" allowtransparency="true">&lt;/frame&gt;</iframe>
    I still got the spinning wheel, and even after I saved and published the above code it still didn't work.  The published web pages comes up with an error message, and the iWeb page still has the spinning wheel
    3. Third step, after a bit of Apple Communities searching I tired the following code.
    <div style="width: 725px; height: 900px;">
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://bookeo.com/widget.js?a=231MUKEPR13769HL64DC"></script>
    </div>
    This 'worked' on the published webpage, but I still get spinning wheel on the iWeb page (even after I've saved and published the page.
    My question is whether anybody knows a more elegant solution or is my third step the best way to proceed, even though I still get a spinning wheel on the iWeb page?
    Thanks, Paul

    Hi Wyodor,
    Thanks for responding.  I think that what your suggesting is that when you inserted the script it worked for you.
    I just tried the demostration example you used of the massage bookings to see if I could get the same result as you.
    I inserted the folowing code into the HTML Snippet in iWeb on new test page on my website
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://bookeo.com/widget.js?a=296X6L43U12C057243FB"></script>
    I then published it, but on the published webpage I only go the very top right hand corner of the Bookeo form, whereas I can see that on your example http://home.wyodor.net/demoos/bookeo/BookeoiWeb.html all the Bookeo form is there.
    Not sure why the difference between our two outcomes, but I'm only new to iWeb so maybe I've missed something.  Could it be that I'm placing the HTML snippet to the right of a left hand column of information and that's causing only a portion of the widget/bookeo webpage to be visible?
    Thanks
    Paul

  • Social networking share widgets for iWeb... any solutions?

    I've been trying in vain for sometime to get one of the social networking share widgets (ShareThis, AddThis, TellaFriend) to work in iWeb 08 and am hoping someone might be able to help.
    With all i am pasting the code provided by these services into the HTML Snippet box. I am using the popup functions, since without doing so requires the HTML Snippet box to be resized unacceptably large obscuring other links on the page. The widgets are published fine, however the link they provide when posting to social networking site or included in an email add an additional extension on the URL that just links to an image of the widget. (i.e. http://web.me.com/fknott/CrystalCove_Properties_2//Home_files/widget1markup.html) the URL should end Home.html.
    Does anyone know how to fix this? the tech folks at each of these sites have been no help at all. Are there any other share widgets aside from these that will work seemlessly with iWeb?
    I really appreciate any help.
    Thank you,
    Troy

    Hello Marc,
    The code generated by ShareThis will not work with iWeb/insert HTML snippet.
    You'll have to put it inside the body tags of every HTML page at the location where you want it to show.
    Attention : the code is inserted after publishing = outside iWeb ! Every time you change a page in iWeb and publish it, you'll need to enter the code again.
    To automate this process you can use [TextWrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler>
    _ in iWeb on every page you want ShareThis, create a new textbox and add something that is unique and easy to find afterwards when the page is published as a HTML page : ex. AAAAAA,
    _ move the textbox to the location where you want it to show, resize if needed,
    _ publish your website with iWeb,
    _ mount your iDisk in the Finder,
    _ open TextWrangler and the first thing you do is "start recording",
    _ open the first HTML file you see in your Site, ex. index.html (It's OK if that page doesn't have the AAAAAA) +(when you have the ShareThis on a specific Site or Blog only, locate that folder),
    _ in the Search field enter AAAAAA,
    _ in the Replace fiel enter the code provided by ShareThis,
    _ do a "replace in all files in this folder" where you select your Site or Blog folder,
    _ stop recording and save the script for later,
    _ unmount iDisk from the finder.
    Done.
    On my Blog entry about [Favicons|http://www.site49.eu/Leo/Tips4Mac/Entries/2009/2/15_Favicons.html|Add favicons to iWeb websites] you can find some screenshots on how to use TextWrangler as an automated search and mass replace tool.
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Firefox / Safari / IE - with iWeb productions: pros and cons

    Greetings!
    I have started using iWeb (coming from FrontPage and a dab of Dreamweaver). Great, and, most importantly, very well integrated with the rest of Apple's programs and services and devices.
    I have noticed that IE of course has trouble bringing up iWeb sites/pages: much of the time, IE just hangs, seemingly freezing the whole system (while posting "Done" on its bottom bar), and eventually breaks through and put up iWeb pages and sites quite truthfully. Firefox of course, which I have just installed in the Windows "side" of my MBPro/BootCamp system, blazes through iWed creations, just like Safari does. And, Firefox does not freeze. So, as I post my iWeb sites, I will include mention to install Firefox on Windows machines and just have it handy. Granted, most Win users WILL continue to use IE: so I must find ways to have my sites play in I decently.
    RE: Firefox, I did notice that its screen fonts are NOT as sharp as IE's or Safari's same with Firefox screens in general: graphics OK, rest somewhat jagged/blurry) . Perhaps this does account for some of its speed. And even though I choose the option of letting sites exhibit their own fonts (rather a pre-selected one by Firefox - Time Roman usually), often Firefox picks its own font(s) to display text from sites. IE has better controls as to WHAT fonts will be displayed for a given site (i.e. the site's fonts, or IE's choice of fonts). So, Firefox's speed does NOT seem to come at no cost (I do like the sharpness of text in IE and Safari: anything blurry or stair-steppy makes my eyes very uncomfortable!)!
    Another observation/question: as I finetune/experiment with a iWeb built site, I notice that text boxes that have been "imaged" by iWeb for one reason on another (example: text outlined, or underlined or made into hyperlinks) reproduces very faithfully what was in iWeb in the first place. Would that be then a good way to make sure that text looks exactly like it was intended and fits exactly right on the page? Or does "imaged" text produce larger (graphic) files than plain text (I suspect so).
    This is an extraordinary forum indeed... With tools like iWeb and talented folks such as those sharing their amazing websites here, anything is possible!
    - Thanks for any comment and advice!

  • My HTML snippet widget on iWeb looks great on iWeb, but when I publish the page the HTML snippet doesn't appear on the webpage.  Why?

    I pasted in some HTML code generated by Google Forms into the iWeb HTML snippet widget.  It looked great on my iWeb viewer, but when I published it to my website, the HTML snippet google form did not appear on my webpage.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • RSS widget in iWeb. Can someone help?

    Hi There,
    I am having an issue with iWeb and the RSS widget.
    Having created a website for my company, i wanted to put our twitter feed on the home page using RSS. Now obviously twitter have stopped making it easy to use the RSS service, however i managed to track down the link that the RSS is on.
    This link was http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=(inserttwitterna me). So i changed the last part to our twitter name making the link look like this:
    http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=bluecrewuk
    This link worked on the iWeb page for about 5 minutes, and has now stopped working. Yet that link still takes me to the real RSS feed if i paste it into my web browser.
    If anyone can help, that would be great!

  • Published web galleries not available as web widgets in iWeb

    hi all. sorry some are experiencing probs with iWeb '08. It does seem to have some bugs, but man it is cool for my uses! I have published a web gallery in iPhoto, but when I go to insert it in my iWeb through the Insert Menu up top or through the web widget menu it says there are no web galleries available. i've restarted my machine and still no go. I can visit my web gallery no problem on the internet. Any thoughts? just a bug that needs to be squashed?

    Same problem here. Does anyone know what this command does? Does it create an iframe tag with the web gallery embedded as a frame? Perhaps we could simulate the effect with HTMP snippets while apple fixes it.

  • Using Web Widgets in iWeb to Create meta tags???

    I am using iWeb '08 version 2.0.3
    There is a feature in iWeb 08 to add HTML snippets (when you click on the button at the bottom "Web Widgets".
    I have added some Meta tags on each of my pages, for example (my keywords & descriptions have different content, this is an example):
    <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="this is my description">
    <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="these are my keywords">
    <title>this is my title</title>
    <meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
    <meta name="GOOGLEBOT" content="INDEX, FOLLOW">
    I published to a folder, then pushed the code out to my site. When I view the source code, I do not see any of these tags on any of my pages (I put this on all of my pages).
    My question is why is this not showing up? I can certainly add this content via dreamweaver, but that would be a pain as every time I update my site, I would have to publish to a folder and then, in dreamweaver, put the code out there again on each page. What a pain in the a*@!
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Because whatever you add to HTML Snippet is actually added to another page called widget#_markup.html .
    iWeb then link this widget#_markup page to the main page with a iframe, this is the same reason why google analytics javascript and statcounter javascript don't track correctly when add in HTML Snippet.
    You better off using some scriptable applications or AppleScript to do post editing.

  • Adding widgets to iWeb

    Hi there,
    Another question....i have added widgets to my page via the html snippet option on iWeb. What I would like to do is take it a step further and customize the look of the widget. Is this possible??

    You would need to alter the html code that you have placed in the html snippet, unless it is custom code, from another site, in which case no.
    If you want other designs, go to where you got the widget in the first place and copy and paste the code for a different design.

  • Google widget in iWeb

    My google map widget does not appear in IE on two different Windows computers, nor does it appear in Chrome, also on a Windows machine. It shows up and works perfectly on my own Macbook Pro running Lion, in both Safari and Firefox. Is there a Windows setting that needs to be changed? There are no error messages.
    Thanks

    Even using the full code in the Snippet isn't 100% reliable. A couple of times recently I've had to go in and get the actual coordinates since the Google version was about 20 miles off. Instructions HERE.
    Using the plugin for JQuery gives you a lot more options...

    ... but the learning curve is slightly steeper
    This is the very basic setup...

  • Resizing issues with widget in iWeb

    hi there,
    i'm creating a web page in iWeb...and would like to use the mobileme gallery widget to place some pics. I placed the widget on the page and choose my gallery and everything's fine, but I can only scale the box up to 320x260pixels and then it stops and won't go any larger on the page.
    Why?
    Do i need to change the size of the page or my pics or save them differently? Any help would be most appreciated.
    Nicola

    Paste this in a HTML Snippet.
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeName/123456", 226, 199);
    </script>
    Change the last 2 numbers for width and height. Use your own MMe name and Gallerynumber. You can resize up to a point.

  • Twitter Widget for iWeb not working

    Sorry if this answer has already been asked. I am creating a website using iWeb. I wanted to add my twitter account to it so I went to Twitter and went through their widget maker, customized it, copied the html code, pasted in the iWeb html widget box, and it worked great. Now, all of the sudden none of my twitter account widgets are working in iWeb. Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks,

    Yes, I said that :
    Sometimes you have to imagine that you see it in iWeb.
    Here's how it looks in iWeb :
    And here's how it looks in the published page.
