Can we script the compressing of OST files on users computers

After mailbox cleanups either manually by users or by using archiving software OST files remain large. Couple of questions. If the user does nothing, will Outlook 2010 automatically try to compress the OST file in the background? Read some things that seem
to suggest that once the white space grows to 20% of the total size of the OST, Outlook will start a process that runs in the background to compress the OST.
If this is true, can this value of 20% be adjusted. If it's not true, is there any way to programmatically compress the OST so the user does not have to do it manually, or delete the OST and let it rebuild?

There's no such method to change the threshold of 20%, but we can configure Outlook to automatically compact the .pst or .ost every time we close Outlook.
I don’t actually recommend this method, as it can lengthen the time it takes Outlook to shutdown and if Outlook is forced to close during the compaction process the data file could become corrupt. My suggestion is that if the .ost file is not so large,
just leave it alone.

Press Win key + R and type "regedit" in the Run dialog, then press Enter to open the registry editor.
Browse to the appropriate key for your version of Outlook, in your scenario it's Outlook 2010, the key is "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\PST"
If the PST subkey does not exist, create it.
Right click on PST key and choose New, DWORD.
Type (or paste) PSTNullFreeOnClose as the Name.
Double click on it and enter 1 as the Value.
DWORD: PSTNullFreeOnClose
Value Data: 1 = compact on close, 0 = don’t compact
Although the key name only contains "pst", it also works for .ost files.

How to deal with the extremely big *.ost files in a Terminal Server environment which is running out of space

Our Terminal Server is running out of hard disk space, and the major files which occupy most of the space are *.ost files of the Outook, which come form the users which use the Terminal Server all the time through remote desktop. The Outlook is installed
on the Terminal Server and various users can use it.
What would be a solution in this case. Is there a way to limit the size of the *.ost files? I read in forums that having the Outlook 2010 set up in Cached Exchange Mode isn't the best practice for an environment where the hdd space is a major constraint.
What do you suggest?

Is the Exchange server local or remote? If it's local then it might be worth considering disabling cached mode, since the traffic will be going over the local network and therefore having the data cached becomes much less useful. If it's a remote exchange
server then realistically turning off cached mode would likely make it unusable.
If Exchange is remote then other than increasing the available storage, another option might be to upgrade your Outlook / Office installation to 2013. In Outlook 2013 you can configure how much of the users mailbox is cached in terms of time, so for instance
you could set it to only cache the last 6 months worth of mail, and then all recent messages would continue to be quick to view, but older messages that are less likely to be accessed frequently would have to be downloaded from Exchange each time since they
would no longer be cached.

My actual requirement is to see the target folder whether it is empty or not, if empty then I can trigger the interface.
For this I want to write shell script whihc execute at OS level to check whether the target is empty or not, But the constraint is will this can control the triggering of sender adapter.

I guess this can help you control the file pick up.
If your shell script works well then using the same you can modify the filename or its extension if the target folder is empty.
Say in the sender file adapter you set the source-filename as "inbound_*.ready". Now when originally the source file is dropped into the source folder (by any other process) let it be named as "inbound_001.pending" and your script will change the file name to "inbound_001.ready" if the target directory is empty. I dont think you need to use the pre processing OS command for this.
Does it make any sense?

My external hard drive is 'seen' by my iMac and I can go into the Finder and open files and folders. I am using the hard drive for Time Machine back up. However Time Machine says it can't find the drive. Same thing has happened with Final Cut Express.

You cannot have time machine backups on your hard drive if you intend to use it in FCPX.

If a server supports resuming downloads then the download should continue where it left off.<br />
You can test that by simple starting a large download and wait a minute or so before pausing it.<br />
Then you can close and restart Firefox and see if resuming works.
You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.

can we get the name of fmx file which is doing some DML operation on a specific table Can we back track which fmx module has done DML on a specific table. The reason I need this because I've 7 different fmx files which are doing some DML operation on a specific table and these fmx files were used by different users. Not necessarily 1:1 For eg. one user can do DML through 3 different fmx files. So in such case if I want to want to know from which fmx file this DML has take place .How can I achieve that. I know I can get the oracle username through v$session but it will not suffice my needs. I need the name of fmx file also.

For that you can set the Module Field in the V$session in each form by,
DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO.SET_MODULE(MODULE_NAME => :SYSTEM.CURRENT_FORM, ACTION_NAME => USER);Write this in each form, and then you will get the form name in the V$SESSION's module field with form name.

Firefox 3.6.* and earlier set the downloaded file's modification time to the current time. In Firefox 4.0 the behavior has been changed, if a server returns a timestamp telling when the file was last modified (Last-Modified header), it is used instead.

A lot depends on the form of the PDF. Is it graphics, a scan of a text file, pure text, or other? What version of Acrobat are you working with.
You can do a save as to get a WORD file, but do not expect great results. The ability to get a decent WORD file depends on what the form of PDF you are working from. If it was created from WORD with tags and all, you might get good results. If not, you might get a lot of messed up results.
Explain what you are starting with and your ultimate goal. Also check the audit of the file (should be under PDF Optimize) to see where the file information is concentrated (text, fonts, graphics, other).
