Can you create a Adobe DPS app that use Web Services

I'm looking to create a DPS app that uses web services to pass data to and from a web server when the user has an internet connection, but when the user is offline stores data locally until an internet connection is established and then passes the locally stored data to the web server. Is this possible with DPS/

It's challenging but it's possible. Hint: local storage.

Report that uses web services as data source, prompts for database logon

I have a crystal report that uses web services as a data source. When I deploy the report to Infoview it prompts me for a database username and password. Since I am not using a database it should not prompt me for these. I tried various options in the CMC->database settings for this report but it still prompts me for the database logon info or tells me that the database logon information is incorrect.
The report work fine in the Crystal Reports Designer.
Does anyone know how I can prevent this report from prompting me for the database logon info ?

How do I create an iPad dps app that needs a password to enter?

I need to create an iPad dps app for a corporate client and they have asked the question if after download, we can have it password protected to enter?
If so how do I go about this? so the app has a log in page once loaded?

You'd need to create a custom HTML store/library and build that into the application, and have that page request the password. This is a DPS Enterprise feature, it isn't available in pro or single edition.

What is the best way to deploy application that uses web services?

Hi all,
I'm having some problems figuring out the best way to deploy our app now that we've switched over to using web services.
I'm fairly new to Java and web services. From what I understand, JNLP and WebStart are methods to deploy Java clients to users and not for creating war files and the like.
Here's a little background:
We have a large PowerBuilder/Oracle application. The db consists of over 500 tables and the client consists of several thousand PB components. A user creates "transactions" which contain a series of "sub-transactions" within. Most of the data is collected and stored locally in the client in a series of datastores. When the "finalize" happens, the records are validated and sent to the database.
We are in the process of moving each of the subtransactions (currently in the PB client) into subPROCESSES on a java project. We are using the JAX-WS framework to develop the web services in Netbeans. These web services aren't much more than remote xml as the messaging technology. For writing data back to the database, we are using the Java Persistence API to function outside of an EJB container but will shortly be migrating to the Glassfish application server to use several of the EJB container frameworks including the EntityManager.
We haven't attempted any type of deployment and are unsure of where to start. Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated!

It is for launching rich client GUI based (AWT, Swing, SWT..) applications onto the end-user's desktop.
There are some parts of JWS that might seem peripherally useful to the installation of a web-app., but it is really not a 'good fit'.

Can you create a PDF in Designer that allows pictures to be later pasted in to it?

I need to create a PDF that will allow our customers to copy/paste screen shots in to the created PDF document. I have tried this with a dynamic PDF and cannot get it to work. Any ieas if it is possible? And if so how.

Hi Caroline,
The issue is that the form you are using has not been Reader Enabled and (by the error message) you are using Reader.
This means that you will not be able to save the data inputted into the form (including an image into the image field).
If you are using Reader, then the form needs to be reader enabled in order to give the ability to save data inputted into the form.
This can be done in two ways:
(1) If you have Acrobat Standard (v9) or Acrobat Professional (v8 or below), then there is a menu item that will allow you to enable the form. However there are license restrictions (see EULA).
(2) Using the full LC enterprise Suite Reader Extensions to apply the reader rights. This is a server component and is €€€€.
I have a summary on the Adobe Cookbooks that summarises the differences in deploying a form and the restrictions that are in place depending on whether the user has Acrobat or Reader and how the form was reader enabled (if at all).

The sample in the previous post was not reader enabled and this is why you got the error.

Can you create a single edition app with CC Enterprise?

My company have Creative Cloud Enterprise edition and I would like to create a simple single edition app. It's going to be a one off free app and I have no requirement for all the bells and whistles that Enterprise offers plus with it being free it would cost me because of the $0.30 per download fee. Does anyone know if this can be done or am I going to have to start looking at alternatives?

You could sign up for the full version of Creative Cloud which will enable you to build a Single Edition app before that support is removed from Creative Cloud on May 1st. You'd create a new app in InDesign using the Create App menu item in Folio Builder Panel. After you create the app and submit it you could then cancel your Creative Cloud subscription.
Note that you would need to get support to help you set the version number of your new app high enough to replace your existing app in iTunes. If you plan to go the CC route let me know and I can assist in making sure the version number is updated on your app appropriately.

When working with Web Services 2.0 API every object is exposed without any child objects, this means that if we want to query/update/create/delete child objects that child object has to be exposed via WSDL.
I searched for the opportunity lines child object (also known as revenue lines) in the available WSDL's in the application and also in the documentation and I can’t find it anywhere.

Can I Create a New Structured App that's a Copy of a Current One?

Here's the situation: I am new to using Dita in Framemaker, but have become competent with the authoring process. I do not understand the development end of things very well, however. What I want to do is to have a second dita structured application that is identical to the first in every way except that in topic.template.fm, the page size will be set to 11x17, not 8.5x11. And I want to be able to apply that structured application to some of my DITA documents, but not all of them.
I tried to create such a situation, first by copying and then renaming the DITA folder (I called the new one DITA-BIG) in Adobe FrameMaker 8\structure\xml\ and, within DITA-BIG, making that small change to topic.template.fm.
I then added the renamed structured app to structuredapps.fm (again, I did a copy and paste of the DITA-Topic-FM element already there), changing the name of the element to Dita-TopicBig-FM and the URLs to point to those in the DITA-BIG directory.
The new structured application appears in Framemaker when I select StructureTools --> Set Structured Application, and I can select/apply it to one of my documents. However, the document's page size doesn't change. I tried saving the document, closing and reopening the document, closing and reopening Framemaker. The new, larger page size set in topic.template.fm in the DITA-BIG structured app. is ignored.
If I change the page size in the original topic.template.fm file, the document that is supposedly using the new structured app changes size to correspond to the template in the old structured app. But I need that original template to stay at its original 8.5x11 page size.
I am new to working with such files so I don't know if I missed something or if what I am attempting cannot be done.
Any advice?

I want to describe one more thing that was not obvious to me. When I got all of this done and tried to get a help topic to use the new template, I did it wrong at first. What I tried was to open the xml file, then open the StructureTools menu and select "Set StructuredApplication." From the long list of applications that appears, I chose Dita-Topic-Bigpage-Fm (my applicaiton clone that contained the modified template). Then I saved the file, but didn't notice any changes in my page size. Even closing and reopening the file and closing and reopening Framemaker, didn't seem to have an effect. When I chose any other structured application (do not try this at home!) I got pretty spectacular results: many error messages, and one time it crashed Framemaker. But nothing happened when I chose my "bigpage" clone application.
Eventually I tried to set the structured application when I opened up the xml file. At File - Open, a little window always appears that lets you select a few structured application choices among the many available.When I did this, the file finally opened with the large page size specified in my cloned application.

Can you fix an Adobe Reader file that has been edited by another pdf reader?

I have created report card templates in Acrobat Pro that have adobe scripting language built into their drop down lists so that when a color is selected they change color. I gave them extended Reader rights and the teachers have been told to only use Adobe Reader to enter their grades. Of course one of them used foxit to edit the files and now the arrows in the dropdown lists which should not print, are printing. Is there a way to fix this or are they corrupted permanently? I can see the scripting language is still there when I open them up in Acrobat Pro.

Can I create object in console app that lives on another thread?

I'm trying to get Embedded RavenDb to work in my console app. I've tried halting the application with console.readline() and by placing a breakpoint with no luck. So I was told I must run it in separate thread.

You'd have to provide a way for it to be alive.
So lets say you have two methods:

When you execute the LiveOnAnotherThread() on another thread, you'd have to do a while loop for it to be not exited, prolly a boolean flag that is on the class level.
so it's something like this

Sounds like you are trying to load classes and execute them via interfaces. Like this:
     Class clazz = Class.forName("java.util.LinkedList");
     Collection c = (Collection) clazz.newInstance();
     c.add("hello");
     c.add("world");
     System.out.println(Arrays.toString(c.toArray()));LinkedList is the class, Collection is the interface which LinkedList implements. You can then call the methods declared in the interface. The interface gets "compiled in" into the program and the classes that implement it get loaded whenever and from wherever you load them.
You could also use reflection to call methods without an interface, but that is type-unsafe, inelegant, hackish, and just plain ugly.
